First letter lost possible cause: \grabbfferdata

Recently there have been reports of the first letter of a line of text being lost in the database and letter modules. I tracked down what appears to be the same problem and developed a work-around. The problem appears to be with the \grabbufferdata command. Something has changed in the way it works, and it now swallows the first token of the buffer that it grabs. It may also show up with other commands, but this is the only one I have found in my projects. If you have code with this command, a workaround is to insert \ignorespaces after it. I have no idea why this helps. If you do not have the code (if it is in somebody else's module), then using a blank line or dummy argument or \relax after the command that calls the code with \grabbufferdata may help. issues with list items

If I remove the footnote and not the item, the whole list fits in the first page (http://www.ousia.tk/list-items.pdf#page=3) Sorry, but as far as I can understand, I’m afraid this is a bug. ConTeXt is handling list items themselves with widows and orphan rules. Not the lines they contain, but the items themselves. I understand that ConTeXt avoids widow and orphan lines within list items. But it makes no sense (at least, to me) to avoid widow and orphan list items. Problem in natural tables with nc= and alignmentcharacter

When a wide-ish column precedes a character-aligned column and a column span is in place, the table is set improperly. With the following example, the first two columns overlap. When the first column is moved to the right side of the table there is no issue. When the setup line is removed, there is no issue. When the long entry in column is shortened, there is no issue. When the column span is removed and another cell added to that row, there is no issue. The problem occurs when the span is applied to the first two or the last two columns in the example. TL14 handles this correctly. In LaTeX this is accomplished with packages "picins" and "picinpar" but I think that in ConTeXt we only can use the \startfiguretext ... \stopfiguretext environment, although the effect is not the same. Rotate multiline text

Hi, I want to rotate a multiline text by 90 degrees, and I thought that \framed[orientation=90] should do that. But it does not work as expected. \defineframed[tightbox] [align=middle, width=fit, height=fit] \defineframed[rotatebox][tightbox][orientation=90] \starttext \startlines ABC \rotatebox{Random \crlf text } ABC ABC \rotate{\tightbox{Random \crlf text }} ABC \stoplines \stoptext I would like \rotatebox to behave the same as \rotate{\tightbox{..}}, but it does not. It appears that the width (or height?) or \rotatebox is set to broad. Am I missing a magic option or is this a bug? Aditya

Here's a small glitch with indexing, which I ran into by chance and enclose a minimal example. second-level seeindex entry nested too deeply

I think the following minimal example is giving an incorrect index. As ascii, the index comes out as a area 1 ellipse 1 see United Kingdom, area whereas the "see United Kingdom, area" should be indented the same as the ellipse second-level entry. It comes out okay if I delete the \index{area+ellipse} entry. (P.S. What's the setupregister key that puts the "see ..." entry in italic? I seem to have turned it off in my environment file somewhere. Oh, it's 'pagestyle', but then how can one separately set the style of the pagenumbers from the style of the "see ..."?) Hi all, Some new information is now available on the upcoming meeting, so here is an update with all the news. http://meeting.contextgarden.net/2014 == NTG Meeting == The NTG has set the fees for attendance of the NTG’s anniversary meeting, which will follow immediately after our meeting. If you want to stay around for that (program on Saturday and Sunday, with talks in Dutch), please check the box on the registration form. Or, if you have registered already, send me an email message. Additional fee: 50 EUR for NTG members, 70 EUR for other people, to be paid in cash. == T-shirt ? == No, not this time. We are pretty sure most of you have enough meeting shirts already, so we decided to do something different this time. In keeping with the “Cookery” meeting theme, the goody bag will have a full-sized kitchen apron instead. In fact, there will be two different apron designs each featuring a commissioned drawing by Duane Bibby. The designs will remain secret for a while longer (possibly even until the actual meeting) but we are willing to tell you that there will be “lion” and “lioness” versions, and each one is cooking up a big bowl of ConTeXt soup. On the meeting registration form you can select which version you want to receive as part of the goody bag. There is also a checkbox to pre-order the other one (get a matching pair!). After the meeting, the aprons will remain available as ConTeXt merchandise, which is why there will not be a date or place mentioned on the apron. I am setting some late Greek text which uses characters of a Coptic origin and am having a problem when the Coptic letters are to be set as drop characters. It works if they do not have diacritical marks but fails when the diacriticals must be entered as non-combining. The appended code shows the problem and, incidentally, why non-combining marks are needed. (I would attach the .pdf file if I knew the list’s protocol for attachments.) The question is: Is there a way to get \placeinitial to take the first two characters of the opening word? In the example below, I need case 4 to work so that it looks like case 2. really strange bug in ConTeXt

Dear list, using the latest beta from 2014.06.18 17:19, I’m facing the weirdest bug in ConTeXt I‘ve ever experienced. I’m writing a book on ConTeXt (already 330 pages). Compilation breaks when ConTeXt tries to add a sectioning level. I have tried to get a minimal sample, but all I can get is the whole source document. I have already tried for hours. The error I get with luajittex is the following: pages > flushing realpage 326, userpage 322 structure > sectioning > chapter @ level 2 : 1.3 -> Índice de órdenes mtx-context | fatal error: no return code, message: luajittex: execution interrupted Just in case you wonder, I get the same error without luajittex: pages > flushing realpage 326, userpage 322 structure > sectioning > chapter @ level 2 : 1.3 -> Índice de órdenes mtx-context | fatal error: no return code, message: luatex: execution interrupted The weirdest thing is that compilation is right, if I comment a one-line paragraph or if I add another paragraph (with no command inside, only pure text). .tuc and .log files from right and wrong compilation are avaiable at http://www.ousia.tk/right.tuc, http://www.ousia.tk/right.log, http://www.ousia.tk/wrong.tuc, and http://www.ousia.tk/wrong.log. \nocite not working (new publications system)

Hans, I think \nocite stopped working one or two betas ago, see example: no Cleveland reference turns up in the list. Poem with long verses

I can’t figure out how to typeset poems with very long verses. I know that I can use the lines environment for verses, but if a verse is long, it must be broken and the second line must be indented. It seems that the lines environment doesn’t wllow this. Anayway I would prefer a solution which avoids the lines environment. This means I would like to define two commands: \startVerse and \stopVerse. But I find no solution. How can this be realized in Kontext? In LaTeX with memoir it’s really easy.

xtables and xml and lua

Hi all, I'm terribly sorry I have to send three files for this test case, but I'm trying to process xml with lua, so it's difficult to do otherwise. I have two problems: 1. (probably unrelated to xml/lua): when I try to set the options (l. 22-3 in test-style.tex) \setupxtable [split=yes, spaceinbetween=medium] for the xtable environment, I get an error: tex error > error on line 22 in file /mnt/shared/context/tex/texmf-context/tex/context/base/cont-yes.mkiv: ! I would like to test whether a certain element has already been seen (l. 8-13 in test-style.lua). However, since tables are two-pass, the test will always return "true." How could I test properly? Improved publ-imp-test.bib

Hans, I am using the attached .bib file while working on improving publ-imp-apa.mkvi. The test .bib file contains a short and long version of each publication category, and while it is not an exhaustive test of publications list formatting it is a good start. Perhaps you can consider this to replace the existing publ-imp-test.bib in the core. Robin
