How to draw this picture?

I am working on an economic book, which I convert from a paper edition into a digital edition, which contains some figures I want to recreate using context or other tool. In logical terms, the picture represents some economic figures and visualizes how some figure (e.g. "National income" and the amount) is the sum of some other figures, in which it can be split up. In logic terms the figure then explains that: A can be split up into B and C. B can be split up into D and E. D is F. E can be split into G,H,I and K. Graphically this is depicted like a table containing 4 columns and 5 rows, and the "split into" is drawn as two diagonal lines (one right-up and another righ down) which shows how the element on the left column is split up into the elements on the right column using the diagonal lines that center in the left element, drawn to the right top and right bottom element. I worked this out into context as a simple table, and used instead of the diagonal lines only vertical lines. Which is less expressive, but still visualizes the splitting sufficiently I hope. But I would like to rework this picture, using a brace instead of a vertical line, similar to how in a formula one uses mathcases. I tried to use mathcases, but it seems mathcases can't be nested?? I was thinking of other solutions, like replacing the vertical line with a small column in which to put a vertical stretched brace symbol, at the appriopriate lowered cell, but don't know how the vertical stretch a glyph. What is the best way to code this in ConText? (preferred is to use the symbol left brace.) Center two frames

Catalan especial character (l·l) in ConTeXt

Hello, I am Catalan, and we use frequently the geminated character ( l· ), that not is showed correctly in ConTeXt. Dot is too much separated of 'l' characters. How can I control character spacing by default? I have seen Fontfeaturefiles page in wiki for create ligatures and control kerning. But my attempts have failed. Do you think it is a good choice? I keep trying? Explanation extended: ================= Typing normally, catalans use "flow dot" character ( · ) between 'l' (l·l), that in spanish keyboard is located over key '3'. Other option is use special utf-8 characters (Ŀ) and (ŀ), but this character is not in any keyboard, and must changed before compile with ConTeXt (I use SED command). But none of these options is good. ignoring an element in XML

figure caption question

hi, I have some problems with adjusting figure captions. what I want: 1. constant caption width across all figures, possibly identical to text width 2. trailing the auto-incrementing figure number with a fixed character, e.g. a `:', while still being able to cross-reference to the figure without the `:' occuring as part of the reference (i.e. it should read "Figure 1: caption_goes_here" and the cross-reference then should read "see Figure 1" rather than "see Figure 1:". Using something like \setupcaptions[width=0.9\textwidth, numberstopper={:}] sort of works except that cross references than include the "numberstopper" `:' in the reference ("see Figure 1:") which is really awkward. so how can this be solved (adjust the numberstopper in the caption without affecting how the figure label/number appears in cross-references)? regarding the caption width it seems that of the predefined keywords (fit, broad, max) only the first one is understood correctly (presuming it means "fit to figure width" -- I did not find an explanation anywhere). `width=max' does not maximize the width (rather it is smaller than with `width=fit' in some of my figures) and `width=broad' throws an error ("! Delayed page layout change?

Hi, I'm new to ConTeXt (although have used LaTeX in various ways over a long time) and am impressed! Many thanks for a great system. I'm wanting some pages in a book to have a different layout to others, and am using \definelayout and \setuplayout to do so. This all works, including adding layers to the different layouts. However the layout change (specified by \setuplayout) occurs immediately after the command is given, which means following paragraphs on the page have the layout's new width and not the width used for earlier text on the page: i.e: + + xxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxx <-- \setuplayout xxxxx xxxxx + + + + xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx xxxxx + + Is there anyway to defer the change in layout so that it occurs when the next page starts?? I can obviously force my own page breaks using \page and give \setuplayout immediately afterwards, but this doesn't allow for paragraph text to flow over the page boundary. Thank you. David Brooks

The \ConTeXt macro and sans serif fonts

I want to use the \ConTeXt macro (so the colofon says \ConTeXt was used), but I'm using the Optima font. The result is pretty ugly. With a standard serif font that looks OK, as the n of Con would touch the serif of the upper side of the T if moved more to the right but with a sans serif font, a 'hole' exists between Con and TeXt: Is it OK to define my own \ConTeXt so that the kerning is more pleasing? G PS. I'm obviously close to finsihing the book if this is what I worry about.

Reference to prologue becomes "Chapter 1"

I have a chapter in the frontmatter that has no chapter number. The first chapter in the real book is Chapter 1. But when I refer to \in{chapter}[prologue], what I get is "chapter 1". Is there a way I can make \in{chapter}[prologue] return something like "the prologue"? I'm using mkii G

Second-level itemization and indenting question

This can be seen at the last "We thrive" in the example, just after the second-level item. What can I do about that? G

Hi all, a somewhat belated happy new year to all of you! I’ve come across what seems to be a very old bug (I have found references to it in the mailing list from about 10 years ago): I get an unwanted page break after every column environment. Maximum width of a caption

Hi, Is there any way to set the maximum width of a caption? I would like to make sure that no figure caption exceeds, say, 75% of text width. Here's an example of "bad behaviour" in the second figure: \starttext \reservefigure [width=5cm,height=2cm,frame=on][force] {Some very small figure with not too much text: OK} \input tufte This can hardly be distinguished from the main text: \reservefigure [width=\textwidth,height=.2\textwidth,frame=on][force] {\input tufte} \input tufte Desired behaviour: \placefigure[force]{\input tufte} {\hbox to .75\textwidth{\hss\framed[width=\textwidth,height=.2\textwidth]{}\hss}} \input tufte \stoptext I've seen an option maxwidth, but only in connection to \externalfigure[...][maxwidth=...]. I can cheat as on the third figure above, but that seems like an ugly approach to me. Thank you, Mojca
