No escape to TeX for inline typing?

Hi, How do I escape to TeX from inside an inline typing command? It works fine from a typing environment. In your command prompt echo "000" will work, but cmd /c echo "000" will not work. Please test in your command prompt set PATH=c:\windows\system32;%PATH% pdflatex --shell-escape latex It should work perfectly. After that, repair the PATH variable, by reading the manual of OS, if you don't understand. Thanks, Akira

Very rare case: c:\windows\system32 is erased from your PATH by an accident, so cmd.exe cannot be found by luatex. Please check the PATH variable on your system. Thanks, Akira

Hi ConTeXist. After a long time I tried to recompile ConTeXt file that contained the \executesystemcommand. It seems to me that this command stopped working. Can anyone confirm or refute this my perception? I call \executesystemcommand to compiling another ConTeXt file from running ConTeXt. I use Windows 7 and problem is under TeXlive 2014 version and Standalone version too. Footnotes and Marginal texts

Greetings, I am working on a document with many annotations of different types, and have a couple of questions. (Before the questions, though, I am quite impressed with ConTeXt so far. It is much nicer to work with than any of the TeX or LaTeX packages I have worked with before.) First, what is the preferred way to get marginal text? Is \margintext, \inmargin, or some other the current best practice? Second, is there a way to get marginal text for a footnote? Here is a minimal working example: \starttext Text for the\footnote{A\margintext{Where am I?} footnote.} main\margintext{I am here.} body. \stoptext Finally, is there a way to have different classes of footnotes? I would like to have three classes of footnotes to be displayed something like: —— 1. first footnote of class 1 2. second footnote of class 1. —— a. first footnote of class 2. b. second footnote of class 2. —— 1. first footnote of class 3. 2. second footnote of class 3. That is, the footnotes of each class should appear together, with a “normal” footnote rule above them. Each class of footnotes should also have its own numbering scheme. Footnotes of class 1 are “regular” footnotes in the main text body. Footnotes of class 2 will be longer, and will occasionally be more than one paragraph. They, also, will occur in the main text body. To complicate matters, they may have marginal notes and footnotes (of class 3). Footnotes of class 3 are footnotes that occur in footnotes of class 2. replacing images in PDF documents

Dear list, I have the following situation, that I would like to solve using ConTeXt. I have to generate a bunch of PDF documents daily, that someone else has to validate (put a stamp on it [let’s put it that way]). It might be a physical stamp, but it might be also a vector image. One of the issues is that the stamp has a different place in each document (almost). Another issue is that the stamp should be added after the document is generated, not before. Having the following sample: \starttext I want this image replaced: \externalfigure[cow][scale=200] \stoptext After generating the document (and not modifiying or recompiling the source), is there a way to replace the image with another one? Numbers in appendix roman, but want arabic

Hi, with the example below, I have two problems (that are probably related). In the appendix, the Theorem is numbered "Theorem II" instead of "Theorem 2", i.e. roman numbers are used instead of arabic ones. Also, when I refer to Theorem 1 from the appendix , it says "Theorem I". Again with roman number instead of arabic. I would prefer "Theorem 1". So, the question reads: How can I get arabic numbers also in the appendix? Asciidoc to PDF over Context

Hello Mailing-List, I used Latex for a few years in university to create reports for assignments and also to write my bachelor thesis (I would have liked to use Context, but the right schema for citation was not available and I had no time to create it myself). Over the time I got a little bit frustrated with Latex, because it has many modules and most of the time gets the job done, but writing Latex can sometimes be quite hard sometime to me (you have to have the modules installed, tweak around with charactersets, imagepositioning, ...). In between I looked at much smaller and sleaker document representations languages (asciidoc, restructuredText, Markdown) and writing in it is a pleasure compared to Latex (I haven't really tried out Context but looked over the documentation and it looked more promising but shares the same design ideas). Asciidoc is even able to declarate source code listings and formulas. Never the less, the output to Pdf is not always the nicest one. The reason why I now write to this list, is, that I imagine, that Context could be the right processor to create beautiful PDFs out of intermediate formats (DocBook 5 or Asciidoc). For the conversion to Latex a module for asciidoctor (ruby implementation) is in developement. The ideal system I imagine would be close to what is used with HTML and CSS on the web: Having a easy to use file format to writing you documents (Asciidoc or DocBook as intermediate format) and a system to create the PDFs (maybe Context and a Context-Template) So my main questions are: - Are there straigt forward ways to create PDFs with Context using Docbook 5? - Are there "not that hard" possibilites to write extentions to Context to do exactly that (maybe using Lua)? - Does it make more sense, when using another input format like Asciidoc, to write a converter which directly creates a Context-document? (although it might be more versatile to use DocBook for other formats like Markdown or DocBook itself) Sincerely, Tobias

XML Processing with Verbatim (VIM-Typing)

Hello, as a few other topics on this Mailing List already discussed, it's not (easily?) possible to use \starttyping\stoptyping within XML setups. If it was "simple" verbatim, there would be a few workarounds. However, I want to provide formatted verbatim (i.e. \startJSON \stopJSON, after having \definevimtyping[JSON][syntax=javascript]). That typing environment will be further customized (by adding text background with border, etc.). I don't see a simple way to work around this without manually typesetting the code highlighting (which I don't want. I simply want <json>{someCode}</json> inside the XML file). Is there anything I can do to make this work? Maybe with preparing a buffer? (with Lua?) \setupcaptions question

I want to use `numberstopper' for figure caption customization like so: \setupcaptions[numberstopper={:}] this works fine for the caption itself (i.e. I get, e.g. "Figure 1: caption text") _but_ references to the figure via a defined label such as [fig:example] in the body text do include the numberstopper, too, which is highly undesirable in my view, since, e.g., "... see Figure 1: for an example. ..." should rather read "... see Figure 1 for an example. ..." i.e. the numberstopper should be omitted (at least optionally) when referencing. question: how can this be achieved? thx/j

Flowchart fatal error

Hi all, I experienced a fatal error when wanting to compile a FLOWchart, which compiled normally before. I get the following error: ! hi list, admittedly I've posted this problem two times 6-8 weeks ago already but since I did not get a single response (not even RTFM...) I try it now a third time (hoping this is not considered spamming the list ...): question: how can I get properly aligned enumeration of equations that use `\mathcases'. example: 8<-------------------------------------------------------------- bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla \placeformula \startformula K_1 \rightarrow \startmathcases \NC f \NC for $f \ll PS$ (flow limited transport) \NR \NC PS \NC for $f \gg PS$ (diffusion limited transport) \NR[+] \stopmathcases \stopformula bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla \stoptext 8<-------------------------------------------------------------- does "subcases enumeration" in the second case but this is not aligned with the right text margin so it can not be used easily to "fake" the enumeration of the whole equation. \placeformula on the other hand does not print an equation number at all (contrary to what it usually does. two features in ViewerPreferences for printing

Hans, for a small book I’m publishing online (https://archive.org/download/ensayo-escritura/ensayo-escritura.pdf) it would be extremely useful to have two features from the PDF spec implemented. These are PrintScaling and Duplex (page 364 of the PDF spec). They are two entries in the ViewerPreferences. Both features are extremely useful to avoid issues when explaining double-sided printing and not reducing margins (in some cases, this reduction to margins is critical [such as in the sample above]). Disappearing backgrounds/pagenumbers with \page[none]

Hi, there was a problem on TeX SE [1] where page numbers disappear for a whole chapter when \page[none] is used to hide the numbers on empty left pages in a double sided document. As can be seen in the following example the page numbers and background on the last two pages disappear when “missing” mode is enabled. Yesterday I tried to create a fresh PDF from a revised text using MkII and XeTeX (I have been using this combination for several months, because I need to use Indic fonts, which are not -- yet? -- supported in MkIV). As a trick I defined an Indic font as a mono font (\tt), so that automatically the size would be adjusted correctly in footnotes etc. To my horror, it no longer works. I stripped down my input file to one called kannada-test.tex, and still I got the bizarre error message "file kannada-test.bbl not found, waiting for bibtex", and texexec (or a process it invokes) freezes. I have never used bibtex input in these documents. Below I am including the error log. I have changed nothing in the input files besides alterations in the text to be printed (not in any commands). The only thing that has changed is that in the meantime I installed the new version of MacTeX (2014; previously I was using 2013). I removed the entire MacTeX 2014 version and installed it afresh, but this did not help either. It seems to be a Mac problem. Ubuntu (14.04) also looks for a bbl file, but simply passes over it if none is found (see attachment). I would be very grateful for suggested solutions. I was using this to prepare materials for classes (fortunately we have a recess until April right now).
