Does a "half-space" or small space exist in ConTeXt?

Hi all, I would like to use something like a "half-space" or small space in a situation where neither no space, nor a normal space is ideal. See the ME: --------------------------------- \usemodule[simplefonts] \setmainfont[Verdana] \setupbodyfont[10pt] \starttext On the third beat a 6th between bass and tenor, {\em \lohi{B}{g}}, moves to the octave {\em \lohi{A}{a} . \medskip On the third beat a 6th between bass and tenor, {\em \lohi{B}{g}} , moves to the octave {\em \lohi{A}{a}} . \stoptext -------------------------------- Without a space after {\em \lohi{B}{g}}, the normal situation, the comma is too close to the B, (and the period too close to the A), suggesting some superscript. Oddly enough, \, gives no comma and a normal space, \. gives no period and no space with mkiv, and a superscript period with mkii. Could these forms for \thinspace perhaps be obsolete? Update text variables inside metapost

Why the metapost not updated the value of text variables that are generated inside luacode environment? page breaks before titles

Hello, I'm trying to typeset a book made of letters with ConTeXt. Every letter has a title a subtitle and a date, before it starts with "Dear ..." Like this: --------------------------------- Title subtitle where, when Dear ..., the rest of the letter ... --------------------------------- The letters are very different in length -- some are long, some are made of a couple of lines --, so I'd like to typeset them continuously, without skipping to a new page every new letter (\setuphead[LetterTitle][page=no]). This way a letter could finish beyond the half of a page, and the next one could have no space left to get the part from Title to the first lines of the body on the same page. That's why I disabled page breaks from Title to the first paragraph after "Dear ...": it would be ugly having only the title in one page and the rest in the next ones. But there's a side effect: the title of the new letter "pulls" the last two lines (the penalties are set to avoid one-line widows) of the previous letter to the new page, even when there's room for them on the previous page. In this case I would like ConTeXt to break the page at the end of the previous letter, before the next letter title. That's why I've set before={\blank[2*line]\page[preference]} in LetterTitle. But it does not work. Using the standalone ConTeXt, how do I add access to my texmf-local tree

I’m trying to migrate to mkiv and I’m running into a host of troubles. Here is one: publications > wrote a new auxiliary file 'prd_book.aux' This is BibTeX, Version 0.99d (TeX Live 2014) The top-level auxiliary file: prd_book.aux The style file: cont-no.bst I couldn't open database file gwierda.bib ---line 3 of file prd_book.aux : \bibdata{gwierda : } The reason is that by using this command (. /usr/local/src/ConTeXt/tex/setuptex && context test.tex) I may have the latest ConTeXt compiling test.tex (it just adds that to te front of PATH), but I’ve lost access to additions I keep in /usr/local/texlive/texmf-local and ~/Library/texmf) How do I make sure the standalone ConTeXt gets access to these? Get rid of caption on an intermezzo.

I managed after many trips to the Wiki to get a text frame pretty much as I want it, with text wrapping around and so on. But the technique requires using an intermezzo as a wrapper. This feature always puts a title like "intermezzo 1" at the bottom. How do I get rid of this title? Hi, with siunitx LaTeX package its possible to obtain physics units like m/s printed in different way changing one option: e.g. \si{\metre\per\second} produce ms^{-1} \si[per-mode=symbol]{\metre\per\second} produce m/s \si[per-mode=fraction]{\metre\per\second} produce \frac{m}{s} have the unit module the same feature? automatic generation of em dash at the beginning of a line

Hello list, This is probably a Polish idiosyncrasy, but we have to live with it. According to punctuation rules when an em dash is at the end of a line, it should be repeated at the beginning of the next one (true, it is often disregarded due to lack of support for it in typesetting programs). What do I replace these mkii command with in mkiv? Incompatibility catcodes of characters in ConTeXt and PlainTeX

Hello ConTeXist. Petr Olsak (maintainer of Czech/Slovak support for TeX) helped me with simple typing of sign charts. He made a PlainTeX macro who is working too in ConTeXt (see http://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/230273/typing-of-math-sign-charts) Petr Olsak (not ConTeXt even LaTeX user) was modified PlainTeX macro to work in ConTeXt and asked the question: "Does anybody know why ConTeXt sets catcode of & to 12? This means that it is incompatible with plain TeX". May I therefore ask , what is the reason that has character & catcode other than in Knuth PlainTeX? I’ve done my first run using mkiv on a mkii project, testing a conversion from mkii to mkiv. Dear list, I need to get the number of pages from an external PDF file that I also define with an \env. I think I could get something like this.: \def\Myfilename{\env{filename}} doc = epdf.open(arg[\MyFilename]) total_pages_ = doc:getNumPages() \def\Mypages{total_pages} But mixing both lua and ConTeXt commands the wrong way won’t work. Sorry, but this is all Greek to me. Although I see how it could be done, I cannot write the code for this. Which is the right way to get the code above working? I found that if the CSV file contain a blank line, then it stops processing the file (see my minimal example). It is clear to me that the incorrectness of file format (eg. different number of columns in rows etc.) may cause interruption of processing, however, I want to ask whether there is an opportunity to process the CSV file with blank lines until the end of CSV file. I noticed that when I exporting data from Excel sometimes happens that in the export file will appear blank line. Is it interrupt processing a feature of a buildin splitter or is it a bug? Can it possibly somehow fix or add new functionality? Hello, For a multilingual document, alternating one language or another, not necessarily a bilingual, translated text, I thought about using textbackground to set-off paragraphs. This technique could also apply to a single language text having multiple levels of information, perhaps statements followed by discussion, etc. A problem appears with respect to footnotes that I do not know how to handle. If the backgrounded text goes across pages placing footnotes, then the footnote also gets the background. This is incorrect, perhaps a bug. Second problem, if a footnote of a backgrounded text gets placed on a following page, then it may not get a background. (It is not clear to me whether it would be correct for footnotes to get the background or not.) Of course, a solution to this secondary problem might be before={\startlocalfootnotes}, after={\placelocalfootnotes\stoplocalfootnotes}, although such a solution would postpone backgrounded footnotes to the end of the backgrounded text. Page numbering, new style and running heads.

The new method of handling page numbering (roman and arabic) using e.g., \setupuserpagenumber[numberconversion=Romannumerals] \setcounter[userpage][5] works just fine if you remember one thing: in running heads the word "pagenumber" has to be replaced with "userpagenumber". Problem with framed text.

In several palces I want to set up framed text with a gray background and rounded corners. Here is my \setupframed description: \setupframed[ framecorner=round, frameradius=0.1, background=screen, backgroundscreen=0.70, backgroundcorner=round, backgroundradius=0.1, corner=round, radius=0.1 ] -------------------- And here is my first framed text: -------------------------- \startframedtext[middle] \centerline{A Vision Example} \QQ{[In the year 20xx], our company is internationally recognized as the premier supplier of [your food products]. We regularly exceed customer expectations by providing innovative and valuable [your food products] .} \stopframedtext ------------------------------------ The hangup seems to be the rounded corners. I am using texlive 2014. BTW the macro QQ is my shorthand for \quotation which is much to long IMO. But I am American and use double quotes a lot. \def\QQ#1{\quotation{#1}} That is not the problem. Everything works until I try to use rounded corners. The customer had them on the last edition of the book, probably done with MSWord (!) All answers appreciated. -- John Culleton Wexford Press
