Hi folks, following today's update, \startsetups[grid][mypenalties] \setdefaultpenalties \setpenalties\widowpenalties{2}{10000} \setpenalties\clubpenalties {2}{10000} \stopsetups \setuplayout[grid=yes, setups=mypenalties] doesn't work any longer, I think. Can anyone confirm this. There is another problem (page break in the paragraph) that I have yet to verify. Greetings Thomas

I’m experiencing this with LMTX only (MkIV is fine). I’m using current latest (2024.11.01 19:19). Could anyone confirm the issue? Many thanks for your help, Pablo

Basically it quite simply is used to define a classroom activity for students to do. Each classroom activity contains: - A subsection title. - A list of recommended materials (like scissors, glue). - Instructions directed at the student. - Where student write their answers. - A list of requirements, how it will be graded. In testing, I found students are ALWAYS very confused by page breaks: If the assignment title, supplies, and instructions appear on one page, but the area they write/body is on the next page, split there by a page break, the students think the activity is missing. They cannot find the activity. So basically, I need to make it such that items 1, 2, and 3 must appear with at least the start of 4, even if its just the first problem in 10, and even if this means leaving a blank area on the page in front of it. How can I be so precise making sure the page break doesn't seperate the title from the start of the area where students write their answers? Adding page breaks before every activity isn't a good solution, it wastes paper. --Joel

Hello everyone, I’m searching for an efficient way to represent electronic configurations in subshell and orbital notation within ConTeXt. Spacing issue in \digits with mode=3

Greetings, I have been making a table with \digits aligned cells and noticed that in mode 3 (thin mu skips as group separator, comma as decimal separator) a specification like {_X.=} causes the single digit number to be misaligned, it's like there's about 2mu worth of space just before the number. I don't have much of an idea as to what causes it. It doesn't seem to be an issue in mode 1, although it may be simply not as noticeable. This also affects \unit. Why didn't I get the correct ordinal number, after defining an environment via command "installcounterassociation".

hi, everyone I defined a command to unite counters by the method of defining counters that I saw on other posts. When I wanted to modify the start parameter of the counter, I found that it did not inherit the settings of the current environment, but inherited the settings of the previous environment. For example, in the first chapter, I set the counter for the environment to start counting from 5, but it inherited the original count of 9, and in the second chapter, it inherited the setting from the first chapter, and its counter became 5. The same happens in Chapter 3. Pls can someone fix this? Since the command to unite with the counter is what I found through previous posts and source files, I don't know exactly how it is used. Hello list, I'd like to know how to specify the following rules of the Italian language. Feminine words starting with a vowel change the preceding indefinite article ending with a vowel: the article loses the ending vowel, that is replaced by an apostrophe. Example: una opera => un'opera ("a work", but also "an opera") una opera => un’opera (with the unicode curly single quote) In case of definite articles, that is true also for masculine words starting with a vowel. la opera => l'opera ("the work", also "the opera", feminine) lo operaio => l'operaio ("the worker", masculine) This extends to articulate prepositions (preposition+article), like nella opera => nell'opera ("in the work", "in the opera") dello operaio => dell'operaio ("of the worker") HYPHENATION In Italian you can't hyphenate after an apostrophe: un'opera => un'o-pe-ra nell'opera => nel-l'o-pe-ra so these are the allowed hyphenations: un'o- pera typographically rather ugly un'ope- ra better nel- l'opera typographically the best (preposition-article split) nell'o- ugly pera nell'ope- ra but, though it's not used much anymore, you can go back to the version without apostrophe, as long as the uncut article or preposition is the last word in a line: una opera nella opera These are seldom used, but they would be a good solution, especially when the line break occurs across pages. Sometimes it's also the finest typographical solution when you have narrow columns. The reason it is seldom used is because there's no automatic solution in typesetting software. You can do it manually, but when a change in the text modifies the line breaking, the article/preposition could move away from the end of the line, and you'd get "una opera" or "nella opera" in the middle of a line, which is grammatically correct but definitely not something you would expect in a printed text, considered almost an error. THE QUESTION Is there a way to encode such rules with \hyphenation and \discretionary? I tried \hyphenation{nel{-l'o}{la}{o}-pe-ra} but it does not seem to work. Massi

changing the symbol used in \footnote{}

I want to use the crucifix symbol as a footnote symbol on the title page of a book. I don't want this to increment the footnote counter. The best I can do is: \setupnotation[footnote][way=bypage, state=stop, number=†] but this does not produce any symbol at all. If I do: \setupnotation[footnote][numberconversion=set 2] then I get an asterix, not a crucifix, and I don't know how to prevent or otherwise reset the footnote counter for subsequent footnote numberings. I can define fake slant for a font with \definefontfamily[mainface][rm][My Fancy Font][sl=features:slanted] How can I do it with \definefallbackfamily? According to https://wiki.contextgarden.net/index.php?title=Command/definefallbackfamily , the following should work, but it actually doesn't: \definefallbackfamily[mainface][rm][My Fancy Font][preset={range:chinese},sl=features:slanted] Besides, the wiki page lists an option `range=...` in the last bracket, but what's actually used is `preset=range:...`. Are they mistakes?

Artifact in flow cell connection

Hi, I have a broken flow cell connection in this minimal example. The broken flow cell is only triggered when drawn within a subsection with an overlay. The logic to create the underlined subsection is by the way copied from the metafun manual source. I do not have the slightest clue what is going wrong in this example. Thanks for ideas. This is lying around for years, let’s try to get it finally working. The code below works, but doesn’t do the right thing. Since the original image doesn’t contain a resolution setting, gm doesn’t do anything: “gm convert: image does not contain resolution” It would be more reliable to use “gm convert -resize”, but for that we need to know the final pixel size. How can a converter function access … – the final (scaled) size of a placed image – the original pixel size of an image ? With that information it would be easy to calculate the target pixel size.
