Hi, It's about end of the year, so I updated lmtx. The most significant "change" is that columnsets are in the processed of being replaced which involves a "change in approach". As a consequence, when you use that mechanism - we're not sure how many actually do - and want the old code to kick in you need to load the "oldcolumnsets" module. Mikael S and I have been working on the new implementation but are not finished. We plan to have a reasonable stable version around may 2025 and a release at the ctx 2025 meeting when we also hope to have a new (additional) manual ready. We also test on real (complex) documents which triggers new challenges and solutions. The current code works ok but can best not be used for production (and some new features are undocumented anyway). Teaser: deep down the approach is quite different from the previous one but more reliable and it produced better quality output. Columnsets are also the mechanism that parallel document(stream)s will use. Like upgraded math and (multipass) paragraph optimization the mechanisms used are also a quite fundamental extensions that will be documented independently and likely used elsewhere. hi, I'm creating a command that can format multiple choice questions on my own. I've done most of it at the moment. Hi, I am making a table using \starttabulate … I want row expansion last 3 columns and put a title “q” at the center of last 3 clolumns. I \NS[3][c] following the example in the wiki. However, it doesn’t work. The following code run without error message, but “[3][c]” appeared at the beginning of the first row in the output. How can I do that? Thank you. Best regards, Dalyoung

Issues with included images on some epub readers

Hi, I'm not sure whether the following is an issue with ConTeXt or with the epub readers I'm using; my apologies for the noise if it's not relevant to this list! I was experimenting creating ebooks with ConTeXt, and found it works very well on most epub readers (except with Calibre, as was previously reported on this list) as far as text is concerned, although I am having issues displaying images. Images appear correctly in the exported html file when opened with Firefox or Chromium, so I suspect the issue may either come from difference in specs for the epub and html formats or from bugs in the epub readers I have tried (Mupdf, Koodo, and Foliate). How to get enumerated tables to line up with the left edge of text?

I created this simple example to show, when I add enumerations to my tables, its indenting the content. How can I stop this indentation from happening? Why isn't font changing inside tabulate environment?

I need to make a symbol, checkmark, appear inside a table. It is from a different font. If I use this, it displays the checkmark in the document: {\switchtobodyfont[garamondsymbols, 12 pt]✔} But inside a tabulate environment, it stops displaying the checkmark. playing with dates

Dear list, I would like to be able to design some calendars. Is there any way to have a command (Lua or ConTeXt) that can increase or decrease a given date by days (something like \nextday or \previousday). I have tried \date and \increment or \decrement, as shown in the wiki: \starttext Today is \currentdate. \dorecurse{25} {\increment\normalday} Tomorrow will be \currentdate. \decrement\normalday %\increment\normalmonth% -- gives an error \increment\normalyear And today in a year will be \currentdate. \stoptext But the main problem is that I end up having the improbable day of December 41st, 2024 (with \decrement\normalday, it would read -9th). Besides, \normalmonth cannot be incremented or decremented (although this would be useless for me). Is there any way to get a command that can increment or decrement by days a given date? [ pdf images upside down in firefox ]

This is most likely an issue with firefox, but i noticed that when i create a file with z serie of images, the pdf shows correct in my local gnome document viewer (42.3) but when I vew the same file in firefox, for some unknow reasom the images are upside down. When I download the pdf, then view it with the local document viewer, the images are correct. When I drag the pdf into firefox, the turn upside down again. On the use of btx datasets to manage images and plots

Dear all, since this is my first post on the mailing lists, let me make a small preamble: after years of LaTeX experience I decided in May to give ConTeXt a try. The journey has been extremely pleasant up to now, so I want to thank all the contributors to this project for making such a great piece of software. Now, let's dig into the topic: I'm a PhD student in High Energy Physics (HEP) and my typical work include producing lot of plots and then presenting them in various meetings, comparing my results with existing ones present in the literature. Tipically, many plots and figures are re-used in different meetings and they might end up in the final thesis. My current workflow is just copying in different directories these (mostly vector) images and copying the caption between different tex sources. This workflow clearly scales very bad, and I would like to exploit all the goodies of the ConTeXt dataset machinery. In the Bibliografies manual it is mentioned that one can use datasets to manage images as well [1]. My case however is (slightly) more complicated than the one showed in the manual. What I would like to have is four databases: - a bibliography dataset; - an "others' figure" dataset, with all the images I took from the references. This means that in some way in the caption I would like to cite the references included in the bibliography dataset; - a "own figures" dataset, with the plots I produced with external programs; - a "metafun figures" dataset, pointing at the metafun code corresponding to some diagram. In my idea, for each figure dataset the \placebtxrendering should plot the figure with the right label to refer to in the main text and the right caption. (Clearly for the metafun dataset it should not include the pdf of the diagrams but instead compile the metafun code). In this way, I could create a single ConTeXt project with different products for different presentations, posters and other documents. Do you think this workflow can be implemented in ConTeXt? If so, how? Is btx the right tool for the job? I hope I was clear, and sorry if I was not. Thanks in advance for the help. Strange character output when mixing different fonts

hi, When I mix the four fonts below, only the serif (mincho) outputs my characters correctly. However, if I only use any of these fonts for output, I will get normal characters. It's not clear to me if this is a bug with the font itself or what. If it's an issue with the fonts themselves, I'll report the bug to the designers of those fonts. Issue loading an otf variable font

Hi, I was experimenting with variable fonts in ConTeXt. While all seems to work well when using a ttf font (like Recursive_VF_1.085.ttf), I am struggling to use .otf ones, like the Source Code Pro (downloaded from https://github.com/adobe-fonts/source-code-pro/releases/tag/2.042R-u%2F1.06… ). can’t make a format with LMTX (Docker/linuxmusl)

Hi, I tried to install LMTX/linuxmusl in a Docker container, installation seems to work ("context --version" looks good), but making the format fails with some Lua errors, e.g. loading > ConTeXt Token support / helpers … toks-aux.lmt:273: … operation on a nil value (field 'glyph') I don’t know if that’s musl or Docker related, I’ve no clue about these. Should I provide a full log? Hraban

understanding \writetolist and \writebetweenlist

Hi, I’m trying to understand the ordering of list entries and find it really hard. Below is the content of "inbetween-01.tex" from the test suite, more or less the same was in https://wiki.contextgarden.ne/Command/writebetweenlist; I tried to enhance it but probably messed it up. Looking at the examples, I only partly understand what’s going on. * What’s the difference of \writetolist and \writebetweenlist WRT their connection to the place where they occur? This seems to be important. (\writetolist has a section number, \writebetweenlist hasn’t …) * What’s the difference between location="here", "none" or nothing with \writetolist? * In my notes, I found the remark that "between" items should be anchored to a paragraph (not being their own par) to avoid inserting whitespace. * The order of \placelist can be normal, command, all or title. The latter isn’t mentioned in the file below, but in the interface. I don’t understand the effect for "normal" or "all" in the example. - normal: there’s some reordering. - command: "only the commands": does this mean, sort the "between" entries by macro name or how? - all: everything in the order of occurrence (that’s clear) - title: sorted by title; how does this affect "between" entries? When pushing something inbetween (in mkiv) it ends up directly in the list. This is the default because otherwise users will wonder why spacing might get messed up (due to an unseen but present node). It is possible to force a location by explicitly setting \type {location} to \type {here}. Another way to force a certain order is to set the \type {order} variable when placing a list. The \type {command} option only pushes commands into the right order, and \type {all} orders all entries (which might be too much). In this case no specific location is needed with the inbetween method.
