First try with context and mathml : not a success

Good morning, I have tried to compile the presentation "using-mathml.tex" from Tobias Burnus Eurotex 2001, which contains few mathml. I think I forget something in the installation procedure because the result is not what I can see on the original pdf "http://www.ntg.nl/eurotex/burnus.pdf" I give in attachement - the tex file I downloaded : "using-mathml.tex" or "http://www.ntg.nl/eurotex/using-mathml.tex" - the pdf I get using : "texexec -pdf using-mathml.tex" : "using-mathml.pdf" - and the log file : "using-mathml.log" About the font problem, I don't really care for my first try, but maybe it's linked with my problem ... Last but not least, I am running Context under Debian GNU/Linux Unstable (updated yesterday) Thank you very much for you help.

Hello ntg-context, I have a copy of texexec.pl dated 2002/05/04 which has a bug in it. I use tetex under cygwin in Windows, and was having a lot of trouble getting texexec working. The problem is as follows. There is a line in texexec.pl: my $dosish = ($Config{'osname'} =~ /^(ms)?dos|^os\/2|^(ms|cyg)win/i); The purpose of this is to find out if we are in a "dosish" environment. This is used later: unless ($dosish) ~ { if ($TeXFormatFlag == "&") { $TeXFormatFlag = "\\&" } ~ if ($MpFormatFlag == "&") { $MpFormatFlag = "\\&" } } This breaks badly (and very confusingly) later when we do system() calls if $SHELL=bash. I don't know if the rest of cygwin's environment qualifies as "dosish" or not for the rest of the program, although mine works fine if it's turned off. Is this a known bug? G. - -- Gregory D. Math accents in subscripts

Hello out there, when I use math accents (like \tilde) above italic characters in subscripts, they appear displaced. A trivial example is e.g. -------------------- SNIPP -------------------- \starttext $ E_{\tilde s} $ \stoptext -------------------- SNIPP -------------------- Compare the output to the plain TeX output of "$ E_{\tilde s} $ \end", and you will see the difference - watch the position of the accent. Widow control

Hi, In my (two column) document I have discovered many problems with ophran/widow paragraphs. The line: \clubpenalty=9000 has removed the problem with ophran paragraphs, but similar \widowpenalty=9999 does not remove widow paragraphs at all. Could you give me any advice? And more After command \clubpenalty=xxxx the columns have different height (columns are "ragged"). What command can make wider the interparagraphs gaps to adjust column heights? I'm finding it very tough to locate the utilites needed to prepare the fonts. In particular, I've been looking for 'chpfb' or 'gbpfb', which will enable me to convert a TrueType font into several Type 1 fonts and corresponding tfms, or the 'gbenc' shellscript which will enable me to create the necessary tfms and encodings to use the ttf directly. Unfortunately they are proving very difficult to track down in the locations pointed to by the manual, which presumably are now out of date. I have access to both Windows and Linux platforms to run these on, so if anyone can point me at a place where I can now get them I'd be very grateful. Line break?

This is probably "the dumbest question of the year", but I cannot find an answer in the manuals (beginner's and the real big one) and the mailing archives don't want to play with me today [Forbidden. You don't have permission to access /cgi-bin/search.cgi on this server. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.]. I badly need a working line break (comparable to the HTML tag ). In a side note in one of the manuals I found that \\ should work as line break, but it doesn't work for me, for example --- Example: To change 4-20 mA = 15 - 25 CONC\% to 4-20 mA = 10 - 30 CONC\%, key in the sequence\\ Calibrate/Parameters/Output signals/Current output\\ and then enter Zero = 10 and Span = 20. --- results in --- Example: To change 4-20 mA = 15 - 25 CONC% to 4-20 mA = 10 - 30 CONC%, key in the sequence Calibrate/Parameters/Output signals/Current output and then enter Zero = 10 and Span = 20. --- and that's not what I want. I'm open to other solutions as well, but I think I'd really prefer to have line breaks there (not least because I want to keep the code simple - other people will need to understand this too). Polish language

Hi, As I have read in the file minstall.pdf I have tried to generate polish format by: texexec --make --language=pl,uk --bodyfont=plr en However in the log file I see: language : language en is active ("en" instead of "pl") What do I do wrong? Termn "C++" in index

Hi, possibly a trivial question, but can't find it anywhere: How do I get the term "C++" into an index? Unfortunately ConTeXT interprets the "+" as a separator for indexed terms and I did not find a way to escape it that did not confuse the index mechanism. Another remark: In my view "texutil --purge" should also delete the ...tuo file because otherwise ConTeXt does not recover from a defective index entry. MP Graph and texnum.mpx

Hi ConTeXters, I've been using the MPGraph part of MetaPost and its corresponding m- graph ConTeXt module this week. I've been getting very attractive results that I will encourage my partner to use in her PhD. I was baffled for a while why I could get graphing to work beautifully in one directory, but in no others. I finally tracked it down to the system requiring texnum.mpx in the current working directory. I believe this file contains the MP-ified numbers that MPGraph puts on the axes. My question is: why should this be? I *think* I have done everything else necessary to get MP working in ConTeXt. How can I automatically generate texnum.mpx in a way that 1) another user doesn't have to worry about it or 2) it sits in the path permanently? Some system details: I'm running a fresh TeXLive 7 install, with the latest ConTeXt from the website. I have \write18 enabled, \runMPfraphicstrue, \runMPTEXgraphicstrue, and MPXCOMMAND = texexec -- mptex. On the slightly unusual side, I have \forceMPTEXgraphictrue, which seemed necessary at one point, and no \recycleMPslotstrue, which seemed unnecessary. I'm thrilled with the integration of MetaPost's Graph capabilities, beyond this strange behaviour that took a long time to track down. It was very easy to get very attractive results from simple data files. As a side question, would I have to fiddle with texmf/metapost/base/ texnum.mp to affect the font of the x- and y-axis numbers on an MPGraph plot? They seem to stick to CMR no matter what I do to defaultfont in MetaPost. Hi. I'm just starting to look at detailed TeX stuff. I'd like to write some ConTeXt-style macros to support a user. I've already wrapped some MPGraph functions in some old-fashioned TeX-style multiple-argument macros, but I would like to offer my user something more modern and ConTeXt-like. Does anyone have any hints on looking at the ConTeXt code for writing modules? Any hints on achieving Hans-like \dodododo zen? Ik heb een beetje nederlands, but finding mappings between nl-commando's and en- commands is still elusive when trying to decode some multilingual sources. So I know it's too much to ask to get inside Hans's brilliant mind, but I was wondering if some power-users can offer some hints in terms of starting to understand the style of the sources.
