Dear posse, For this journal, I would like to have a description of the journal placed at the bottom of the first page of each article. This description gives the name of the journal, volume, year, publisher, and the range of pages over which the article spans. contents pagebreak before new part

Hello all, Our conference proceedings are divided into several sessions (\parts) with several articles (\chapters) in each part. I'm trying to force a page-break at a certain point in a table of contents, just before a new part. However, if I put \completecontent[pageboundaries={3}] in the file, the TOC doesn't page break before part 3 but before every 3rd chapter of each part. Any ideas how to correct this behavior? Extraneous spaces in XML documents

I'm typesetting some XML text with comments in and for the working version the comments are to go in the margin. For the final version the comments are simply to be ignored. In the end result there is a noticeably larger space between the words where the comma had been. Apparently more than one space is reaching TeX's stomach, though it's beyond me to work out how. Hi Hans, I've found the following problem after I instaled last beta. With my previous version (9,10/2002?) it worked fine. interlinespacing

Dear Board, It's going to take some work to come up with a test file for this problem (since the font is not publically available), but let me describe it anyway: Arabic visually requires larger font sizes than roman, as well as wider interline spacing, so Arabic insertions in Latin can create lines of mixed interline spacing. Very strangely, this problem is more apparent in itemize environments and the like than in regular text. Question: is there a way to turn off interline spacing completely for my insertions when necessary. Insertions are defined in terms of \startarabictext \stoparabictext environments: \definestartstop [arabictext] [commands=% {\osetarabdirtext % switches to RL mode \arabictextfont % switches to Arabic \vocalizeinsertdefault} % calls default otp list for vocalization ] Idris

disappearing headers

I want the figures to be placed exactly at the place where it is in the source, even if it should cause an empty space on the page and a page break. Using the free PS Fonts with ConTeXt

Hi Contexters, ``Welcome to typeface hell'', describes my feelings correctly. I'm trying to use the free postscript fonts that come with teTeX (urw palatino, times, helvetica, courier and various others, you know the list) in ec encoding. I thinks I followed the instructions correctly, but still no luck. I'm using teTeX 2.0 with the TeXLive binaries (the ``Gerben Wierda'' distribution) on Mac OS X 10.2.3 (Jaguar). The frustrating bit is that in LaTeX everything comes preconfigured, but for ConTeXt I have to do it myself. I also use this as a testcase before buying the lucida typefaces (I want to be very sure I can install my fonts before shelling out the money). Here's a summary of what I've tried and noticed: 1 - I've used texfont on the type-ftm.dat file in the default installation of the distribution. This fails, because the ec.enc file isn't found. This seems correct, as it is named EC.enc (note that this is on hfs, a case insensitive system). I renamed the file to ec.enc and tried again. 2 - This time the encoding vector is found, and some files are generated. However I get a nice bunch of rectangles, I assume mean that some glyphs are missing. In fact I think the only glyphs that showed up are `borrowed' from Computer Modern. Help! My direct questions: a - Did anyone succeed in using the free postscript fonts on Mac OS X, using a distribution that I use (i.e. the most recent version) b - What were the exact commands that you used? Can you send me a simple test file? c - Did you experience the same EC.enc vs ec.enc naming problem? d - Do other platforms have the same problems with teTeX 2.0 (Hans: What version of teTeX are you using on your linux system, since at your place it obviously works ;-) Thanks in advance for any help, Maarten Sneep >>>-------------------------------------------------- 2 + 2 = 5 (George Orwell, 1984)

MetaTricks?

Hello, I was wondering if anybody (say, for example, Hans ;>) has ever thought about developing a (Con)TeX(t)+Meta(Post|Fun) counterpart of PSTricks? PSTricks is widely used, but has the disadvantage of not being usable for direct PDF creation; a purely "texmf"ish way to handle the stuff would be rather nice. -- Giuseppe "Oblomov" Bilotta

Announce: Auctex and ConTeXt

Hello ConTeXt hackers and emacs users, the current cvs version of auctex is now ConTeXt aware. There is no support for *any* fancy feature yet, but at least you are able to distinguish the LaTeX and the ConTeXt commands/modes. It is aimed at people that already use auctex and think that it is annoying to have LaTeX commands in your ConTeXt buffer. I am currently adding some new features. They will make it into the cvs in the next few days and weeks. If you want real ConTeXt support for emacs, you might want to use Berend's context.el. aligment of captions

Hello again! I defined my captions as follows: \setupcaptions [number=no, align=right, before={\blank[3pt]}, after={\blank[small]}, style={\ss\tfx}] If the caption is only one line, everything's ok. But from two lines up, it's always centered! Why? (I fixed it temporarily with an \raggedright in these captions, but that's no contexty way...) Hypenation problem again

Hi all, it's just my problem again with hyphenation and encoding and hungarumlauts. I have installed Adobe Sabon with both texnansi and ec encoding by the way described by Bill McClain. The texnansi installation has all the hungarumlaut characters (ohungarumlaut, Ohungarumlaut, uhungarumlaut, Uhungarumlaut) as composite chars, in the ec installation are these characters missing. \setupitemize does no longer work?

Screen background in two columns

Good afternoon. I'm typesetting a document in two columns. I'd like to typeset examples in it just in the rest of the text but with a screen background. I tried this: \setupcolors[state=start] \setupscreens[screen=0.8] \setupbackground [background=screen, leftoffset=1em, rightoffset=1em, topoffset=1em, bottomoffset=1em] \setupframedtexts [frame=off, background=screen, width=fit] But both \startbackground and \startframedtext does not allow column/page break. I want the background to start e.g. on the bottom of the left column and to go to the top of the right one. How can I get what I want? (Well, maybe a hard task in the TeX. Some time ago I would suppose it to be unpossible---but then I've seen such a wizardry in the ConTeXt that made me to think that everything is possible---at least for Mr. Hagen.) :-) Many greetings to all of you. Hi all, thanks for responses to \expanded{\bTD[align={...}]}. After reading this I remembered I have this issue solved -- BUT -- this did not work for me if I use ContML -- <table>, <td>, etc. from it. Now I have not tested this yet, so it probably already works (e.g. <table><tr><td align="left, lohi"></td></tr></table>). I'll try it. Second -- is it possible to define, when using \clip, some overlay? If I use \clip[nx=2,x=1]{\externalfigure[gif]} \page[yes] \clip[nx=2,x=2]{\externalfigure[gif]} I get two precisely clipped figures, but I would get/define something like \clip[nx=2,x=1,width=55% (or absolute value)]{\externalfigure[gif]} \page[yes] \clip[nx=2,x=2]{\externalfigure[gif]} to get the first image slightly overlayed over the second image. If I define width absolutely (e.g. 100mm), the clipped pieces ignore x=... parameter. Maybe, I should achieve overlay if I can define range of clipped areas like \clip[nx=20,x=1-11]{\externalfigure[gif]} \page[yes] \clip[nx=20,x=9-20]{\externalfigure[gif]} There both clipped figures overlay the second one. Is this possible anyhow? Dear all, I would like to use the combination feature from an XML source. Index sorting in Czech

Good morning. I have to typeset a document in Czech with index. How can I make the ConTeXt to sort it according to a Czech custom/norm? I tried to learn it from the ConTeXt source but I failed. Is there any help/documentation for it? To show what I need, see this please: 1) accutes: A and Aaccute goes in one section, but Aacute is after A (the same holds for E/Eacute, I/..., O/..., Y/...; U is special, since there is U, Uaccute and Uring). 2) carons: Ccaron, Dcaron etc. have thier own section. So there is one section for C, one for Ccaron, then is there D, then Dcaron etc. 3) Ecaron is no problem, since no Czech word can begin with it. But it goes in one section with E and Eaccute in a following order: E, Eaccute and Ecaron. 4) CH is in Czech supposed to be one letter. It stands after H. (There are some words where CH is two letters, but it can be ignored.) 5) There are much more rules, but they can be hardly algorithmized since they depend on a meaning. I can ignore them. Can some of you send me an example how to do it? Then I would try to implement it myself. Many thanks and greetings. Michal Kvasnicka

tables for invoice again

Goodmorning, Almost ready to send invoices to the world, the day we are all longing for ;) Somehow I can't get the \getvariable right within the table. On top of the file I've got: -snip \setvariables [getallen] [uurtarief=300, buy-out=399, agency=20] -snip Then I want to use these figures, which are fictional by the way, in the table, so I tried to incorporate them in the table with the \getvariable command.
