destinations in PDF

I missed the support in context, to define exact destination (page 553 [533], PDF Reference 1.5 PD) in interactive documents. The defined types lack the support for destinations, that don't lie on the top of a page. An example to make it clear... You have made a PDF document with bookmarks, the focus is set to width for good readability. Now you press a bookmark for a section and Acroreader opens the correct page. But hey, where is the section? If it starts at the lower quarter of the page, it isn't visible at all. So I tried to change this behaviour, playing around with bookmarks (as one fuction using destinations). As I'm no TeX wizzard, the result is very limited. But I hope it's enough to show that there are more or less good reasons for an extension of destinations in context. Regards, Peter

Improving the Documentation of Context

I think it would be nice to have the manuals improved in the following not very costly way (??? indicates my ignorance): \setuplayout[..,..=..,..] width dimension fit middle ..... width, ??? and orientation of main text height dimension fit middle ..... height of main text backspace dimension topspace dimension margin dimension nx number..................... ??? ny number..................... ??? dx dimension.................. ??? dy dimension.................. ??? lines number..................... number of lines on the page [I don't know the relation to height] grid yes no..................... invoking setting to grit Since the manual doesn't even mention all those options, even a very short hint is much better than just trying around to get an idea what's the idea of an option. Hi, when I set up the Chapter in the following way (*** indicating the relevant option) \setuphead[chapter] [style={\switchtobodyfont[15pt]}, grid=bottom, number=yes, ownnumber=no, page=no, continue=yes, header=empty, footer=empty, align=left, *** alternative=middle, textstyle=normal, placehead=yes, indentnext=no after={\blank[2\ZEILE,flexible]}] I get the following: 1 The Structure of the World How can I get the number and the text in one (centered) line? Hi, So I've got to use this modern XML thingy.. ;-) I tried to set up ConTeXt to typeset processed XML data. What goes wrong is the \XMLpar which sometimes gives default value instead of the real one. Hello there, I love working with ConTeXt, and never had to think about it much since SuSE makes it realy easy ... but now I switched to Debian, and all of a sudden have to face some trouble :-)) I run Debian Woody 3.01r and if I call texexec --make de it says "warning : texexec.ini not found; try 'texexec --verbose' TeXExec 2.5 -ConTeXt / PRAGMA ADE 1997 - 2001 locating ini file : not found by kpsewhich locating ini file : not found by searching locating ini file : no environment variable set locating ini file : not found in own path so, what am I going to do? I found "texexec" in /usr/share/texmf/context/config ... am I to make a link? Let's say to /home/user/texmf? Thanks in advance ray

Tables, footnotes and references

Hi, I want to make a table with some footnotes belonging to that table. As an extra, one of the footnotes needs to be referenced to multiple times: bla bla bla* bla bla bla* bla bla bla *blabla Questions: - which of the table formatting commands in ConTeXt is most suitable for this? - Can I just use a footnote command to create footnotes for a table (or do I need to do something special?) - How do I reference a footnote (or get the symbol for a specific footnote)? handling & compound||words

Hi folks. I've been wondering if I've been missing something here. When I activate hanging, the hyphens (or whatever the hyphenmark is set to) in compound||words refuse to hang. When that happens, it makes the margin look worse than if there were no hanging. Is it not implemented yet? [using pdfeTeX (Web2C 7.3.7x) 3.14159-1.00b-pretest-20020211-2.1] Here's an example with a bit of nonsense that pretty much forces the issue: \setupfontsynonym[cmr10][handling=pure] \setupfontsynonym[Serif][handling=pure] \setupfonthandling[normal][left=1,right=1] \usetypescript[cmr] \setupbodyfont[10pt] % tried this and many variations: \setuphyphenmark[sign=-] \setupalign[hanging] \starttext \dorecurse{3}{ I find the very thought of it appalling. Itemize columns

Hi ConTeXtnicians, When I use \startitemize[n,packed,columns,three] The list is produced in a nicely packed three column format, however when the n is left out for bullets the three columns become one. \startitemize[n,packed,columns,three] Is this the intended operation? TIA -- Nigel

combine two features in \setuphead[][]

Hello, if I use the \setuphead[][] command like this way \definehead [section] [section] \setuphead [section] [alternative=inmargin, numberstyle=bold, textstyle=bold] I can use features how > normal, bold, slanted < and so on. ColorBrewer palettes

Hi all, I have adapted the colour palettes suggested in http://www.colorbrewer.org for ConTeXt, see http://www.panix.com/~derwisch/hannes/tex/brewercomp.pdf and http://www.panix.com/~derwisch/hannes/tex/colo-brw.tex. As can be seen from the document, I still have font def problems. Without the redefinition of the monospace font, I keep getting a "Font ectt1000 at size 645 not found". missing tfm fonts

In type-enc.tex there is mentioning of "existing tfm and vf files we provide", such as ec-upl*.*. Are these really needed, and how do I obtain them? \setuphead and define global fonts of headers

Hello, above \starttext I have define the bodyfont to \setupbodyfont[11pt]. It works fine. The headings I define in the following way (also above \starttext): \setuphead[chapter][alternative=inmargin,letter={\switchtobodyfont[16pt,ss]\ bf}] \setuphead[section][alternative=inmargin,letter={\switchtobodyfont[14pt,ss]\ bf}] \setuphead[subsection][alternative=inmargin,letter={\switchtobodyfont[12pt,s s]\bf}] When I use <<texexec --pdf myfile>> I get many messages that means: it would be better to define the bodyfont global. How can I do that? Right-aligning blocks of text

Gents I'm a newbie with Tex and ConTeXt but enjoying myself so far. Everything is working very smoothly except for one single issue; I want to right-align a block of text, e.g. have the text left-aligned but the block right aligned. An ascii example would be; | | | Some text | | More text | | Even more text | I've tried various context structures .. frames etc and I've also tried \hboxes and \vboxes but the best I can do is to specify the distance between the text and the right margin. I want something that will stretch to keep all the text on the page with just the longest line hitting touching the right margin. I need this 'box' to contain several paragraphs. References not working when arranging pages

Hello! When I use \setuparranging I can't get the references to work. I use the latest beta. If i just comment the line with \setuparranging it works perfectly. Have I missed something? Bug in Enumerations

There is a bug in enumerations' implementation. The following example is nearly literally taken from english ConTeXt manual (cont-eni.pdf, p. 224) See this example: \defineenumeration[step] [location=left,text={},width=2em] \setupenumerations[step] [headstyle=bold] \setupenumerations[substep][headstyle=slanted] \starttext \step One \par \substep Two \par \stoptext The headstyle for substep is bold, just like for step, and not slanted as stated in the manual. Help, please :) /S PS: Hans, are there any chances to get the new beta with backgrounds' recalculation bug fixed? Latest beta is from before BachoTeX ;)
