I would like for an unindented paragraph to appear after an itemize, but I can't seem to get it to work. My guess was to set indentnext to no, but that doesn't work. pagination bug

Hans, The following minimum file does not paginate correctly. It overflows the second page. Removing the figure or the second level of itemization fixes the pagination. I have enclosed the text of the file and the file itself for ease of reproduction. I am using the latest stable version from i-installer. I actually think I have had this problem before but not tracked it down. loss of references after changing page arrangement

Hi Contexers, Does anyone know why I lose all my references to sections (\in[abc]) and pages (\at[abc]) when I specify a smaller page arrangement, e.g. 2*2? Kind regards, Robert Ermers

Dear ConTeXtnicians, Normally \bTABLE...\eTABLE encourages itself to the textwidth of the page that it is on. I have a requirement for a table which is occupying a full page rotated. What command encourages TABLE to a different overall width. I cannot find anything in manuals and archives. TIA -- Nigel

Arabic-utf-8 (plus a sample)

Hi gang, For Arabic we use a Latin transcription in Aleph/(e-)Omega (or even ArabTeX) unless one of the encoding filters like utf-8 is used. Even for utf-8 files, however, it would be very useful to be able to convert a utf-8 file to Latin transcription for further processing by Aleph/(e-)Omega. For example, adding diacritics is much easier to do in Latin than in an Arabic script editor because Latin transcription is one-dimensional and adding diacritics to Arabic is a 2-dimen affair. The best thing would be a perl script but I don't know perl at all (except to run some some precreated scripts). If someone out of the kindness of their heart could write a short and simple script for just seven characters I could do the rest myself and present it back here. Now all of the Arabic charachters in utf-8 can be represented by extended ascii. I need something like this, that converts every extended ascii representation of Arabic utf-8 into a Latin transcription: Ø§ => A Ø¨ => b Ø¬ => j Ø¯ => d Ù‡ => h Ùˆ => w Ø² => z If someone could write a perl script that can accomplish the above conversion, I can manually fill in the rest of the script. Basically I use a modified version of the ArabTeX transcription. Arabic utf 2 transcription

Hi cohorts, Thank you to everyone who helped me with this. I now have a working script for converting Arabic utf-8 to transcription. This is still pretty xperimental but I've tried it on some rather large files. I added a couple of small features to make some things like the definite article more readable. This experiment has also led to some useful improvements in my own transcription scheme (based on Lagally's ArabTeX). For example, Lagally's system incorporates some Arabic orthography rules for hamzah; these are moot when dealing with utf-8 for the most part, so I added a direct transcription for each hamzah-carrier. Of course u will have to adjust what follows to fit your own pet transcription. For some of the small features to work (like for making the definite article more explicit) one should move the entire file being processed over by at least one space (so every word beginning with the definite article is affected but middle-word occurrences are ignored). Persian has not been extensively tested, and urdu, etc is completely missing. Hope this is useful in any case. Strange bug with ffr and \in[]

Hello, with the following example and the latest beta-ConTeXt, I get the following error: unknown reference [][bla] file proj.tex: \startproject proj \environment env \product prod \stopproject file env.tex: \startenvironment env \useencoding[ffr] \stopenvironment file prod.tex: \startproduct prod \project proj \section[bla]{bla} \in[bla] \stopproduct Strange, because there is no such problem without the project/product structure. Using \starttext and \stoptext everything is fine. Could you help please? TIPA in Context

I am currently converting my Old Frisian Etymological dictionary from LaTeX to Context and I have run into two problems. The first problem is that I am using the TIPA package to typeset phonological fonts and diactitica. Is there a way to use the TIPA font in Context? The second problem is that the dictionary has 142 seperate language indexes with over 32000 index markers in the standard latex index format \index[language_abbreviation]{...}. Is there an easy way to write one new (TeX) definition which interprets these markers in such a way that Context accepts. Hello, ConTeXt does not find the EPS-BoundingBox in EPS files generated by xmgrace. Such a file begins like this: %!PS-Adobe-3.0 EPSF-3.0 %%BoundingBox: (atend) and it ends like this: %%Trailer %%BoundingBox: 64 72 709 527 %%DocumentNeededResources: font Times-Roman %%EOF When using \externalfigure, one gets the following error: ERROR: Missing number, treated as zero. --- TeX said --- <to be read again> ( \EPSllx ->( atend) \dogetEPSboundingbox ...m \EPSfound >0 #2=\EPSllx bp#4=\EPSurx bp#3=\EPSlly ... Dear partners in crime, I mentioned this some time ago, can't find the answer right now... I need a \=i where the bar over the <i> is the width of the box. In computer modern the bar over the <i> is much too large and looks ugly and buts into other letters when used frequently. In good quality typesetting the bar in the \=i is always smaller than for, say, \=a and \=u. (Of course, ConTeXt already incorporates the \i in its def. of \=i and I don't want to lose that feature;->) Also, Hoenig helped me make a complete old style computer modern virtual font. Where can I upload this package (with all Context-related typescripts) for people to look at and maybe improve? There is also the texsyncable tree. A few remarks: (1) the cd has an autorun file (2) and also start.bat and demo.bat files (3) whatever you choose, it will also start the example framework (4) which means that you have some goodies (recently added: font tester; interface is accessible from tools menu) (5) the demo files at least can prove that tex/metapost/xml work (6) afaik it works all right on spacy install paths (7) as well as (when running from cdrom) on the local (often spacy) user temp path (8) more example interfaced stuff will follow and the interface macros itself will be documented later i'll try to get this working for linux as well (alas, ruby is not yet standard on unix and i need to get rid of hard coded scite paths) as well as macosx (dunno how to make a texshop-using-small-context-tree-run-from-cd version yet; no scite on mac yet) I can add support for more editors later; the idea is that this provides a kind of standard. The example framework is now multi-threaded. The more extended client-server alternative will follow later. Again I'm having some problems generating my ASCII table, this time it's { and } that are the culprits. I'm currently using $\{$ and $\}$ for them, but it would be great if there was a way to get them rendered like the other characters that have \type{...} surrounding them. Hello, how could I get stretchable space between paragraphs, tables and figures, so that the last line of a page flushes always to the bottom? \setupwhitespace[0pt plus 1pt] does not seem to work... Grid, section, grid=top

Dear ConTeXt hackers, on a new project I'd like to use grid snapping. One section level should have grid=top to get some distance between the text preceding the section heading and the heading itself. This works fine. But when the section starts at a new page I don't want any extra line inserted at the top. amsl: startcases/stopcases

Hello Giuseppe, I'm having a little trouble with the cases in amsl. Compiling this: \[ f(x) = \startcases 0 & \text{if $x < -\epsilon$} \\ \frac12 & \text{if $x > \epsilon$} \stopcases \] results in an error around the \frac. Changing it to \dfrac makes the input compile ok, but typesets the cases in an ugly manner with really narrow spacing. Is there some way of telling startcases/stopcases to behave in display mode? Do miktex users have kpsewhich on their system (or is this an option), or should i use a miktex specific search tool? How do I get underscores (_) into a table? I'm producing an ASCII chart, and as character 95 is _ I would like it to show up as such. Right now I get a high dot.
