Hi, is there a way to get the marks set in columns? With \setupfootertexts[{\getmarking[section][first] \getmarking[section][last]}] \starttext \startcolumns[n=2] \section{first} \column \section{last} \stopcolumns \stoptext I get only the last mark, even if I comment the \column out. If there is no possibility, can I write the marks to a file for postprocessing? Best regards, P.

Setting up a typeface

Hi, I've now studied the docs for a while and experimenting with a bunch of settings but I'm still failing setting up typefaces correctly in ConTeXt. Probably the font mechanism in ConTeXt is much more elaborate than with LaTeX's NFSS. But I'm too stupid to understand it :-( Could someone please help me? My test case -- and it will be the sans serif part of my wish list -- should setup the Linotype HelveticaNeue as body font. The main part is not very difficult to achieve. Problems with Acrobat Reader, animation, sound, JavaScript etc.

Good morning. I'd like to ask a little off-topic questions but closely related to ConTeXt. I'm sorry I bother you with this, but I need it. My interest is not purely academic. I'd like to prepare fully interactive documents for my students to work with at home and prepare to my classes. My questions are like this: Theoretically, PDF can contain sound, movie, and JavaScript. 1) In practise, the movie plugin I have found only in the Acrobat Reader 5.x under Windoze; in Linux and in Adobe Reader 6.0 under Windoze it was not present. Can I download it somewhere? 2) What are limits of QuickTime JPeg in the PDF? It worked with a movie included in the QuickTime viewer under Windoze, but not with a movie from my digital camera (Olympus C730UZ). How can I convert it (for free)? 3) How can I include sounds to my PDF? Does it work with all Readers under all platforms, or not? What do I need to install? 4) Some JavaScripts work only under Windoze, not under Linux. Why? How can I fix that? Mr. Hagen's clock example, and Mr. Gundlach euro-anim example are just two cases. 5) Does Adobe still support Linux? There is a reader version 6.0 for Windoze, but only 5.0.9 for Linux. 6) If I want to learn how to use JavaScript in the ConTeXt, what Adobe document should I read first? Is somewhere explained to integrate it in the ConTeXt (more that the widgets manual)? Many thanks for any hint. I apologize one more for this slightly off-topic questions. M.K.

right aligned section?

Hi, sorry for this actually simple question, but I don't get it. \setuphead[section][align=right] \starttext \section[testref]{test test} \stoptext The section remains left aligned. How can I make it right alignend? I've tried several examples, but the section remains always at the left. Best regards, P.

Protruding & Utopia italic

Hi, I'm using the Utopia/Fourier setup \setupfontsynonym [fourier][handling=normal] \setupfontsynonym [Serif][handling=normal] \setupfonthandling [normal][left=1,right=1] \usetypescript [fourier][ec] \setupbodyfont [fourier,10pt] \setupalign [hanging] and it works great so far, except that protruding seems to be disabled when typesetting in \italic or slanted style. How can I activate hanging alignment of italicized text? I'd also like to know how to use the \mathcal-Alphabet included in the Fourier package. $\text{\cal{...}}$ only generates the standard calligraphic letters known from Computer Modern. BTW, I'm using the latest i-Installer version of ConTeXt/teTeX on OS X. (Console displays ConTeXt ver: 2004.1.13 fmt: 2004.6.25 int: english mes: english) Best regards, Sebastian Sturm

Hi everyone, in latex is possible to work with matrices. How can I have matrix, array o something similar in ConTeXt ? I have been trying with \starttabulate \stoptabulate but my results are frankly poor? I also tried some suggestions from the wiki...about importing ams package from the distro and wrapping \begin \end latex macros with the equivalent ConText ones but I was not able to make it work with the info provided there. Another question regarding Fourier

Hi, I noticed that \rightrightarrows still produces the CM double arrows when using the Fourier fonts. I know that it is possible to combine two single arrows and position them vertically using \raise and \lower, but I guess that there has to be some less clumsy solution. Or maybe the Fourier distribution is already supposed to include double arrows, in which case it would be a configuration issue? Best regards, Sebastian Sturm

baseline alignment

Hallo, for text positioning in a layer I needed alignment to baseline. I do not known if I missed something but I did not find it in the current ConTeXt. So I did that. Baseline is choosen by capital 'B' in the position parameter. ('B' is adopted from grahicx LaTeX/plain package.) Also I add \ctop, \ltop, and \rtop in sence of \cbox, \lbox, and rbox, respectively. I suggest to add the macros to core-box and supp-box. column balancing question

Good morning. One reason for me to switch to ConTeXt were its macros for typesetting in columns that are highly superior to any such macro I have ever seen. (I typeset almost all my documnts in two columns.) But I am not able to supress one strange feature: some pages are one more line longer than they should be. It happen randomly -- or at least I was not able to find out when it happens. Therefore I'm not able to prepare an minimal file. I thougth that setting \widowpenalty=0 \clubpenalty=0 \brokenpenalty=0 \normalbottom may help, but it does not. Can you tell me how to fix this very problem? Well, it does so on all versions of ConTeXt I have ever tried and both with teTeX and TeXLive distribution. Many thanks for your attention and help. row background (TABLE)

Hello, I need a way to set the background for a complete row in the TABLE environment. TABLE uses \framed for every single entry. But if I set the framed parameters right after \bTR, it sets the defaults for all the \bTD \eTD entries and not for that row. See example below to give you an idea. [BUG] location=hanging and frames

Absolute positioning of graphics on the page

Is this possible without using layers? IOW, it there some kind of command that allows: \somecommand[some setups]{content} where the setups specify where the content should be positioned, and towards where it should extend? Hi everyone, a quick question: how can I deal with matrices in ConTeXt ? I tried to use what is described in the wiki as a form of dealing with the latex environment convention and importing the amsl package... \def\begin#1{% \csname start#1\endcsname} \def\end#1{% \csname stop#1\endcsname} ... \usemodule[amsl] then I tried: \begin{array}{c} a + b \\ c + d \end{array} and also, does the tex sequence \left{ work ok in ConTeXt? concatenate PDF files.

I am looking for a way to concatenate several PDF files, and found this e-mail from Hans: http://www.tug.org/pipermail/pdftex/2001-January/000240.html saying that "texexec" can do it in several ways! and to look on the web-site, texexec manual and the mailing list for directions. I went to the manual first and found only ONE: texexec --pdfarrange --noduplex --paper=S6 file-a file-b but that nullified all links I had in my files, and changed the opening from from FitVisible to something else (all files were FitVisible). Next I went to two other sources he mentioned and Googled for: "-ntg-context concatenate pdf" did not yield much beyond that, and neither did Googling http://www.pragma-ade.com/ for the words "concatenate" or "combine". So does anyne know how to use "texexec" to concatenate two PDF files and preseve as much of the file as possible (links, opening format, ...) ? Paulo Ney

Taco, Thanks on the timely response This is BibTeX, Version 0.99c (Web2C 7.5.2) The top-level auxiliary file: mba-paper3.aux I couldn't open style file cont-no.bst ---line 2 of file mba-paper3.aux : \bibstyle{cont-no : } I'm skipping whatever remains of this command I found no style file---while reading file mba-paper3.aux is the error I get after running the changes you recommended tried also changes style file in aux file myself no success also check the file permissons on the style files I am running this on Mac OS X with ITexMac interface . My bbl is blank not importing from my bibtex file. I have also tried a manual bbl file using guidelines by documentation. Bibtex overwrites with blank and still get the error can not open cont-no. footnotes (short: behind, long: below)?

Hi, is there a predefined command for placing short footnotes at the bottom of each page but horizontally continuos? Is saw this way of typesetting footnotes in an "old" (seventies)-typeset philosophical book. It looks likes this: body text body text body text body text body bo- dy text body text body. ------ 1 short 2 short 3 too 4 short 5 but hey: the long note starts in a new line! I have never seen footnotes like this before. But it reads very pleasant: This way you don't have lot of empty white space (withs short notes), and it still is very clear (for the long footnote starts on a new line). Is it possible to typeset this in ConTeXt? Steffen

Where is texsync.rb located at the moment? It is not on http://www.pragma-ade.com/system/texsync.rb or anywhere in that directory, nor in the /context/ one. [FONTS] Japanese Unicode

I'm trying to get some Japanese ideographs in my document, but haven't succeeded yet. Basically, what I've done is used Adam Lindsay's XSL-T stuff for creating an .enc for my .ttf (mona.ttf) and then run texfont to install the font in /usr/share/texmf/local/fonts. Now, these are only warnings, so I tried showing it with gpdf (xpdf), ggv, and acroread for linux. Nothing worked correctly, and only gpdf was able to show anything at all (albeit it wasn't right). So I figured I'd try it myself. I wrote the following type-mone30xx.tex: \starttypescript[serif][mona30] \definefontsynonym[Mona30-Roman][mona30xx-mona][encoding=mona30xx] \stoptypescript \starttypescript[serif][mona30][name] \definefontsynonym[Serif][Mona30-Roman] \stoptypescript \starttypescript[Mona30] \definetypeface[Mona30][rm][serif][mona30][default] \stoptypescript and test.tex: \useregime[utf8] \usetypescriptfile[type-mona30] \usetypescript[Mona30] \setupbodyfont[Mona30] \starttext オ \stoptext Guess what...the resulting PDF is completely empty. Could someone _please_ tell me what I'm missing? I know I've been asking a lot of questions lately and perhaps most could have been answered by me delving deeper into the problem. The issue for me right now, though, is that I'm really stressed for time, as I need to get my masters' thesis done soon, and a lot is working against me at the moment. Hi, Currently, we have \lccode`\'=`\' set for all languages, but it seems that some languages get problems with hyphenation. \de \hyphenatedword{Works''} \nl \hyphenatedword{Works''} \uk \hyphenatedword{Works''} \en \hyphenatedword{Works''} \de \hyphenatedword{Works} \nl \hyphenatedword{Works} \uk \hyphenatedword{Works} \en \hyphenatedword{Works} i did set the code because some languages needed it, but now i get puzzled: we can do: \startlanguagespecifics[nl,cz,sk,fr] \lccode`\'=`\' \stoplanguagespecifics but i wonder of this is the right approach.
