Error with alternative (interactive) TOC

Hi, How do you make a custom TOC entry that links to the correct page? In the following example, the last TOC item is not hyperlinked, and all the section hyperlinks are incorrect (off by one). I could think of no other way to accomplish this than to generate the .bbl, make two copies, “Inversed Author” and “Short Title”, make the necessary changes in these .bbl’s, including the cite-key to mark it for these two alternatives. I should add that I could not use apa but an apa-like, modified in many details which also forced me to tweak the .bbl. It all seems a lot of work but it is straightforward, it works for me and it protects me from an enormous amount of frustration. (And I’m glad my .bib-file is not autogenerated.) Dear Woldgang, I searched \definepairedbox and found several discussions as following: http://www.ntg.nl/pipermail/ntg-context/2005/014315.html https://www.mail-archive.com/ntg-context@ntg.nl/msg71401.html In the above examples, it took a long sentences as a caption while my example don’t allow multiple lines. I inserted \crlf but it is not working. The difference is that “side by side”(example above) and “top and bottom”(example below). Is there a way of allowing multiple lines? Thank you. setuphead bug?

There seems to be a problem in \setuphead, it produces a spurious else from the alternative=middle. In the reference manual I see the possibilities: alternative = normal inmargin middle TEXT. Of these middle is the only one giving the else. minimal example: \setuphead[chapter][alternative=middle] \starttext \startchapter[title=TITLE] \stopchapter \stoptext Is there a quick repair? hyphenating urls and \tex

Dear list, I have the following sample: \setuppapersize[A7] \define[1]\url{\useURL[url][#1]\from[url])} \starttext \hsize\zeropoint \tex{thisisthelongestcommandeverseen.com} \url{thisisthelongesturleverseen.com} \stoptext In a beta from this year a new feature was introduced that enables hyphenation in \tex commands. How could I replace **only for \tex** the hyphenation character with an underscore right below the previous character? How could these hyphenation settings be added to \setupurl _besides the ones from \hyphenatedurl_? Locating the underscore below the previous character has the advantage of avoiding the wrong impression that either the TeX command or the url contain an underscore. frac and tfrac with sqrt

Hi, I want to open a document in 'full screen', showing the complete page at maximal magnification. Couldn't find a proper way to set the magnification though. TikZ: "align=left" does not work

Dear list, there seems to be a bug regarding the alignment of text inside nodes. If the TikZ picture is inside a centered or ragged left environment, "align=left" is not interpreted correctly. Hi List, How do you make a hyperlink for a bibtex entry's title using the entry's URL? The bibtex entries include articles, techreports, inproceedings, books, and so forth. I can work around the issue by duplicating the URL as follows. Newline in chapter title? Or slight shrinking of it?

I have a \chapter entry that is just a tad too wide. I’d like to have a two-line chapter title, but adding a \crlf leads to an error. Is there another way, or can I somehow make it fit the text width exactly? After all, it only overshoots a little. I’m using mkii Thanks, G

Influencing the vertical spacing of the table of contents? No possible?

I asked this on the list a while back. Is there no answer on this one? I use \startpacked\stoppacked with some effect, but I'd like to have more finegrained control. Original question: I'm using mkii. I've got a table of contents that just places one item on the next page, which is ugly. I'd like to tweak the spacing between lines, but which parameter do I have to adjust? It wasn't clear to me from the docs. Thanks, G

Of course I’ve started from here http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Bibliography_mkiv But how can I force context to take into account only a portion of text for generating bibliographic references and for inserting a block of references after a section? Combining "outer" effect with filled glyphs

Hi, I would like to get red text with black outlines. The magic in ConTeXt that does the outline is \starteffect[outer] Something \stopeffect but I would like to combine normal filled glyphs with an outline. While I'm able to come up with some magic to do this for single lines (creating zero width hboxes etc.), I would really like to typeset a complete paragraph on a poster. Is there any magic that would allow me to do that? Thank you, Mojca

What I would do anyway is to make a subsection or a subject “References" after each essay, add the references that I have not cited in my text as \nocite[key] and finish with \placepublications[criterium=cite]. I should perhaps add that I always process my projects without using the bib-module. I separately make the necessary .bbl-files, which I linput before \starttext. It gives me a lot of flexibility. Because of the concise syntax "prefix=+" it is difficult to google for an example. This feature is mentioned in two places: 1. contextref.pdf in section "12.5 Cross references" explains the main mechanism but seems a little outdated. 2. Hans Hagen, "This Way - Cross document referencing", September 2011. This is more up to date, but mentions the feature only briefly. Metafun standalone and fonts

Hello! I have an mp file that I use with success in my document with mprun. But if I try to generate the figure alone with this command: mpost --mem=metafun myfigure.mp I obtain this error: > ! Using PSTricks

This example from m-pstricks.mkiv doesn't work, there is a missing file extension in m-pstricks.mkii: line 46 (macro \doifelse)is: \loadpstrickscolors{colo-rgb}} should be \loadpstrickscolors{colo-rgb.mkii}} otherwise it searches for colo-rgb.mkiv which doesn't exist. I do not understand why it searches for mkiv because in the background runs context mkii (started by by m-pstricks.lua). I updated ConTeXt standalone again and test it. The result is same as before. In the log file, it located the font but it issues the luatex error. The font version is 1.001. The only difference of the luatex which I can see is that (mine: Standalone, rev 4972) and (Luigi’s: TeXLive 2014, rev 5041). Does it matter? I may test it under TeXLive 2014 which I need to install it. Thank you. Hello! Today I wanted to use an older tex file…. Hi, Various documents mention a namespace feature for references by setting prefix=+. This is a really cool feature but I cannot get it to work. Latest beta stops loading some ttc fonts

The following minimal example used to work fine: \starttypescript [serif] [zhfonts] \definefontsynonym [Serif] [name:nsimsun] \stoptypescript \starttypescript [zhfonts] \definetypeface [zhfonts] [rm] [serif] [zhfonts] \stoptypescript \usetypescript [zhfonts] \setupbodyfont [zhfonts, rm, 11pt] \starttext 测试 \stoptext but it's no longer the case. The font used here is 'simsun.ttc' which ships with Chinese edition Windows systems by default. When I require "name:nsimsun" as above, the TTFAddLangStr() function in the luatex code base will have the following information: fontname lang NSimSun 0 NSimSun 1033 新宋体 2052 That is when lang equals 0 or 1033, the fontname will be NSimSun, but when lang equals 2052, the fontname will be 新宋体, the Chinese words for NSimSun. Although the ValidatePostScriptFontName() complains about the Chinese name of this font, and set 'bad_ps_fontname' to true, luatex itself don't stop the font fromgetting the right fontname NSimSun, since it chooses ASCII names when there're multiple fontnames. But actions["check metadata"](font-otf.lua, 1812)，sets the metadata.fontname from the correct "NSimSun" to "bad-fontname-simsun", and this change causes ff_get_ttc_index() to always return -1 as the index, which caused ConTeXt to complain about the following error message before bail out: (bad-fontname-simsun:-1)Invalid TTC index number mtx-context | fatal error: return code: 1 So, maybe font-otf.lua may need not change metadata.fontname and metadata.fullname if these two names are not nil?

Hi, the first beta after the meeting: There are some changes to export and epub generation (will be explained in a manual). The most important is that there has been some improvements of the math export (esp fences and stackers). More will follow. The export now happens in a subpath. The epub generation is for 3.0 and has more options (like --purge, --svgmath and --rename). The svg math works quite ok (and is needed because it looks like only firefox will support mathml natively). The grid snapper has a few new methods, min, max and box that can be used in cases like \snaptogrid[min]\hbox{e.g. an image} The external figure mechanism has a new predefined conversion. One cna for instance say: \setupexternalfigures [order={pdf,eps,png,jpg}, conversion=cmyk.pdf, method=auto] We need it for projects where printing houses use over a decade old rips. There are probably some more things done but I already forgot about them. Instruction required about hyphenation patterns

As well the original TeX manual as ConTeXt's one try to dissuade one of enquiring deeper into the subject of hyphenation patterns. For several reasons not to be explained at this moment this is however what I want to do. I have read all that I have found about the subject and think to have got a rather clear idea of the fundamental concepts. But I have been unable to understand how they are applied and can be managed in ConTeXt. So I would eagerly receive instruction about this question from someone who is competent enough in the field. As I understand that this is too involved a subject and of too little general interest for the mailing list, I suggest that any potential teacher sends me a private mail (fgragu023(a)gmail.com) I am ready to consider this as a consultorship or tutorship. I found three issues with it: 1. node-ltp.lua is not completely ready for nuts mode, e.g. line 3148: elseif order == 0 and hlist.list and last_badness > tex.hbadness then where ‘hlist.list' should be 'getfield(hlist, "list”)’ 2. with tracing on, I always get: Lua linebreak_filter failed, reverting to default on line 1 which makes me nervous. Hi, Another ConTeXt example. https://bitbucket.org/djarvis/salish-card-set/src/ Included is a script (svg2mp.sh) that converts SVG files into MetaPost code. This allows for editing the image shapes in Inkscape (or similar) then manipulating them in MetaPost. This example code produces a thematic variation on Set. There are a few unsightly hacks, and some duplicated code that could be eliminated. Improvements and general comments are welcome.

The Project needs some 40 files but its working directory contains some 120 files (most of them only for testing purposes). Moreover, I usually only have the “project-file" open during processing (but I don’t know if that is important here). Surprisingly, as I wrote in my first post on this subject, the error up till now only occurs when I use interaction, and it usually does not occur anymore, at least on the same day, after I processed it once without interaction. But the next day, after sleep (of the Mac), the error may occur again. I did not change the settings but I will in case the problem gets worse. Best regards, Robert

Hi, Is it possible to define a cell that spans all columns without knowing beforehand how many columns there are? Specifically I would like to do something like this: \starttext \bTABLE \bTR \bTD[nc=<all>] I span all the columns \eTD \eTR \bTR \bTD col 1 \eTD \bTD col 2 \eTD <...> \bTD col n \eTD \eTR \eTABLE \stoptext Is there any expression for <all> that yields the total number of columns? How do I get indenting in multi-paragraph \endnotes?

I have a couple of \endnotes that are multi-paragraph, but the second and rest paragraphs are not indented, while my text is. I tried adding \indenting[yes] to them explicitly, but that is apparently not enough. How can I set this up? I'm using mkii. Thanks, G

The problem in the example below is, the text in the header - which is a table - is not perfectly centered with respect to the bottomframe. How to get parameters in lua

Hi, \installcommandhandler nicely provides (among others) \define<name> and \setup<name> commands. Thus it is easy to provide a key with \setup...[key=value] and to read the value of such a key with \<name>parameter{key}. My question is: How do I read the value of a key defined with \setup...[key=value] on the lua side? If I use context.<name>parameter("key") then the value of key is printed directly. Permissible characters in ConTeXt reference labels

I'm trying to fix a problem in pandoc (see https://github.com/jgm/pandoc/pull/1589) where it doesn't properly sanitize the reference labels in ConTeXt output, causing errors during compilation when a label contains '#' for example. Note that this sanitizing is needed in addition to the regular backslash escaping used for control characters: '\#' is still illegal in a label for example. In the sanitizer function I'm writing, I'd like to properly escape all illegal characters, but I couldn't find an explicit list of allowed or illegal characters. Based on some testing I've conducted (see attached file), I've arrived at the following set: \#[]",{}%()|= 1) Does this look like a reasonable set? Are there other characters or sequences that should be included, or are worth testing? 2) I was told (see https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/pandoc-discuss/tYpXMUkmbEY) that if the characters " and , didn't work, it would count as a ConTeXt bug, is there any truth to that? Please let me know if any further info is needed on my part. 3) Does anyone see issues with this general approach? I'm relatively new to ConTeXt, so I might be missing either a huge problem, or an obviously easier way to do this. Thanks, Mark

Erratic error message

Hi all, When typesetting my project with interaction, sometimes the processing stops after a few runs with an error message that points at an empty line in one of the chapters that normally gives no trouble. For interaction this setup is used: \setupinteraction[state=start,focus=standard,style=,color=blue,contrastcolor=] \placebookmarks[prechapter,chapter,section][prechapter,chapter,section][number=no] When I comment out the first of these two lines, in other words, without interaction, the project is processed without any problem. Sometimes, unfortunately not always, when I immediately repeat the processing with interaction, all goes well. So what is my problem? Not understanding what might be wrong, and not being able to correct things gives me a feeling of insecurity, trusting Murphy’s law to make sure that processing will fail when my deadline is approaching fast. I use mkiv on Mac OSX 10.9.4. All my standalone versions from january up to today give the same behaviour. Hello ConTeXtists, there are many fonts distributed with Ctx standalone (minimals). I'd like to create a "gallery" (or "preview") of fonts - one font per page (A4) with all its "kinds" (italic, bold, semibold; ss, rm, hw atc.), and a couple of sizes (10, 11, 12, 16, 24 pt). Is there a way how to create such gallery, which would walk through Ctx fonts directory (on my machine: c:\ConTeXt\tex\texmf\fonts\*) automatically? - This would allow user to have a better overview over AVAILABLE fonts and their LOOK; and the code for the gallery generator would help user to see how to use/access fonts in a Ctx document. lpdf.checkedkey has problem with false values

Dear Developers and All, lpdf.checkedkey routine from lpdf-ini.lua has problems with accessing false boolean values, it returns them as nil. Is it by design or neglect? (I vaguely remember stumbling on this problems before, so there is a chance that I have already got the answer, but have forgotten it.) I've been meaning to do this for some time, but haven't had a chance. I'd like to use ConTeXt. Does anyone have a sample source I could take a look at as a starting point? I will need to typeset some figures, pseudo code, references, etc. and this all takes much less time when someone much more clever than I, like Wolfgang or Hans already has a similar environment file and such setup. problem with buffer

I'm writing a module to typeset problems/tests. Depending on a flag, solutions are either displayed or not. If the solutions are not displayed, I want to give a certain amount of empty vertical space for the student's work. This is where my difficulty begins. The typesetting works with the solutions displayed (\def\examshowsolutions} {yes}) but not with the empty vertical space (\def\examshowsolutions{no}). I get an "Emergency stop" that I cannot figure out. centering a makeup

Hello, I have searched for a solution for making proof trees, but I have failed to find a working setup. Does anyone know of a solution? I have used bussproofs.sty with LaTeX, and have seen that discussed on this list some years ago: http://www.ntg.nl/pipermail/ntg-context/2010/051489.html (How) can I use this package in ConTeXt? the new simplefonts stuff

This is probably a pretty basic question, but how do I find out the name of the font that \definefontfamily expects in the third argument? For example, \definefontfamily [dejavu] [serif] [DejaVu Serif] works fine and sets the text in DejaVu Serif, but that’s not a name I can find with mtxrun –scripts font: ellen% mtxrun --script fonts --list --all --pattern='*DejaVu*'|wc -l 28 ellen% mtxrun --script fonts --info --list --all --pattern='*DejaVu*'|grep -i "DejaVu Serif"|wc -l 0 mtxrun --script fonts --info for Deja Vu doesn't show that identifier anywhere. I want to find out what, for example, Bookman is called. \definetypeface [five] [rm] [serif] [bookman] works fine and sets the text in some font that sure looks a lot like Bookman to my eyes, but \definefontfamily [five] [serif] [bookman] doesn’t work at all and the text doesn’t show up. ellen% mtxrun --script fonts --list --all --pattern='*bookman*'|wc -l 5 I’ve looked all over for this... even tried understanding font-sel.mkvii (with mediocre success). multi-colunm table issue

Hello ! I'm interested for some time (say 2-3 years) in the resolution of a specific bug, described in the documentation here http://wiki.contextgarden.net/TABLE#Multipage_TABLEs as *Beware:*Split tables often begin not on the page (or in the column, if you use them) where they/could/start, but on/in the next one. This is a known limitation due to the complicated calculation of remaining space on the page. That won't become better before this calculations are newly written in Lua. (Said Hans on 2010-09-24.) Remove left and right offset from nested frames?
