hello Here is my problem : I wish to write a TOC at the beginning of each chapter (that I can do). But I want it to write every chapter and only the sections and subsections of the current chapter. Hi, there’s another structure bug in export: from \startchapter[title=Something] ... \stopchapter \startchapter[title={Something Else}] ... \stopchapter I get in *—raw.xml: ... </sectioncontent> <sectiontitle>Something Else</sectiontitle> </section> <section detail="chapter" chain="chapter" level="2" implicit="4"> <sectioncontent> … That means, the title of a section is at the end of the previous section. xmlconcat

There is a behaviour of xmlconcat that I do not understand. Calling as \xmlconcat{#1}{test}{xxx} correctly interjects the "xxx" between the successive members, in according with the documentation. But using the command version for calling: \xmlconcat{#1}{test/command(xmltest:test)}{yyy} does typeset the nodes but not the text from the third argument. It might be the correct behaviour but it confuses me. Any comments or enlightment? Thamks in advance. \switchtobodyfont issue, also with newotf

While working to get italic smallcaps in a secondary font face, I came across an issue with \switchbodyfont. When this is used in a certain way, the \tf font-style is changed, but not the \it, \bf, and so on. The example below compiles cleanly as presented, and the problem is not present. Each test line shows the expected font name and text. When the Oops! line is uncommented, the only test line for the test font that is correct is the \tf line. Other lines use the default font face in the specified font styles, but the font features are a mix (note that some are onum, some lining, and that long-s t ligatures are inconsistent). When the newotf module is enabled, the example fails to compile without errors, but produces similar results to non-newotf when the errors are ignored. According to the "Verbatim" page of the Context garden, I have to use the \installprettytype command, but this one doesn't work (error : "undefined control sequence"). Hi, why does \startchemical take the name of a instance as argument (e.g. \startchemical[important]) when there is no way to create it because \definechemical is redefined and the original version isn’t saved. Bad PDF to text crawlers

Hey list, I have an important document online that I would prefer to keep as a PDF and not in another format. Unfortunately bots frequently try to provide those looking for it with a text version they try to extract (beyond my control). The extraction looks just absolutely awful and has been a major pain in leaving readers with a really bad understanding of the contents of the document. I was thinking that there must be some way of tricking these bots, depending on how they are implemented, and let's assume they will always find the PDF, to get them to extract only a small invisible layer that just contains some hidden text directing a user to the location to download the original high quality ConTeXt PDF. \setupwhitespace and Natural Table paragraphs

I am trying to find the most effective way of changing paragraph spacing for paragraphs inside table cells, without resorting to explicit \blank directives. Here is a MWE to show what I mean. Outside of the table, the paragraph spacing seems to honour the \setupwhitespace directive. Not so inside the table. Hi, I’m using Peter Münster’s downsampling module (http://modules.contextgarden.net/grph-downsample) and kept it under my project directory, like ~/mybook/tex/context/third/grph-downsample That worked with latest betas until 2015-07-31. It still works under .../texmf-local/tex/context/third/grph-downsample So there’s not really a problem, I can’t remember why I kept that project-local tree anyway, but something changed that might bite someone else... Problem with the installation of a module

I tried to install the PocketDiary module but I had some problem. I follow the instruction at: http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Modules so first I copy the files in my texmf-local directory and after that I run: context --generate but context didn't find the new module. I use linux and I have installed texlive 2015 in my home directory, so my texmf-local directory is /home/admich/texlive/texmf-local In the output of context --generate I noticed the following lines: ... resolvers | resolving | locating list of 'home/admich/texlive/texmf-local' (cached) resolvers | methods | resolving, method 'locators', how 'uri', handler 'file', argument 'home/admich/texlive/texmf-local' resolvers | files | file locator 'home/admich/texlive/texmf-local' not found ... This seems not correct because is missing the initial / . Title of the section that begins

Formatting of page number in table of contents

Hi, I am using a document structure "part-section-subsection" (i.e., no chapters). The page numbers have to be formatted as "partnumber-pagenumber". So, I am using the following setup: \setupuserpagenumber[way=bypart, prefix=yes, prefixset=part] The page numbers are formatted correctly on each page, but not in the table of contents. Should processors work with references? I would think that they should, but the following fails. (My backmatter page numbers need to be marked to distinguish them from bodymatter pages. Selectively supressing ligatures

Hi, I use the package "selnoligs.sty" in LuaLaTeX to selectively suppress ligatures. >From the selnolig package description: "The selnolig package suppresses typographic ligatures selectively, i.e., based on predefined search patterns. The search patterns focus on ligatures deemed inappropriate because they span morpheme boundaries. For example, the word shelfful, which is mentioned in the TEXbook as a word for which the ff ligature might be inappropriate, is automatically typeset as shelfful rather than as shelfful." Hi, in http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Context_2009.10.27#Data_files there’s: • new parameter for \setupcolors: intent=none|overprint|knockout I had \setupcolors[intent=overprint] in my environments, but since a few betas, I get „overprint“ printed on all pages, messing with the layout. Now I changed this to \setupcolors[intent={Uncoated FOGRA29 (ISO 12647-2:2004)}], and it works again. As far as I can see, it doesn’t change anything, I find no color intent mentioned in the PDF. The color profiles are listed in http://wiki.contextgarden.net/PDFX for \setupbackend; intent in \setupcolors is not documented. Can you shed any light on that? bug with definefloat and caption case

When I setup a custom float with \definefloat[exhibit][exhibits], the word "Exhibit" in the caption is printed with the first letter uppercased for the first 32 exhibits. However, starting with the 33rd exhibit, the first letter uppercase is lost. For example: \definefloat[exhibit][exhibits] \starttext \dorecurse{45}{\placeexhibit[here][fig:test\recurselevel]{title\recurselevel}{content\recurselevel}} \stoptext yields exhibits with these titles: ... Hello, even though the commands in the autogenerated command list (http://www.pragma-ade.com/general/qrcs/setup-en.pdf) are not commented the document is useful to me. In a MWE on this list I saw the command \doifoddpage which is not in the list. Wiki and even Google does not find anything about this command. I think that I kind of understand the command, but I wonder how many commands are out there I've never heard of. Can \getmarking take more than one argument?

Hello, I currently use the following to define my even and odd page headers. ————— \startsetups[header] {\doifoddpageelse {\getmarking[section]} {\getmarking[chapter]} } \doiftextelse {\getmarking[chapter]} \stopsetups ————— The problem is that some of my ‘section’s are not sections, but ‘subject’s (because I don’t want that section heading to appear in the TOC). As a result, my header is blank on the ‘subject’ pages. Is it possible to define getmarking to take either a section or a subject, somehow? Listing them both separated by a coma (\getmarking[section,subject]) produced no result. I also tried: ————— {\doifoddpageelse {\getmarking[section]} {\getmarking[subject]} {\getmarking[chapter]} ————— …but that caused the subject and the chapter to both be printed in the header. Template for handling editorial content in a large book project

I am working on a large book project. What I need done in ConTeXt is something similar to what Boris presented at TUG 2015: http://tug.org/tug2015/abstracts/veytsman-access.txt In other words, the output should address different audiences. In my case, I want the full project to continue to contain editorial comments, or notes by the author. I am thinking of using both margin notes, and specially styled paragraphs (narrower, font change, etc.). Then depending on the target audience, reader or editor, the editorial comment could be included or not. Finding the correct name of font to use with \definefontamily

I am trying to use the font family Novecento Wide, but cannot seem to get it to work. How not to print the chapter number

With contextmark II I just added \setupsection[section-3][previousnumber=no] but it doesn't seem to work in mark IV. Hello, it seems this is a frequent thesis - in the mailing archive, stackoverflow... Anyway, I'm not able to find a valid way (MWE) how to number subformulas (with option to create a reference name, like 'eq:1a' and 'eq:1b', and to be able to refer to them, like "\ineq[eq:1a] and \ineq[eq:1b]"), so to get something like: " Some text a + b = c (1a) and later d + e = f (1b) so nothing surprising in [1a] and [1b]. " Moreover, on http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Math there is a red "Warning!": " If you consider using ConTeXt for a paper with a proper formula numbering please wait until it is implemented in mkiv. Formatting footnotes

Hello list, I want some adjustments to my footnotes. 1. The note number in the footnote needs to be normal instead of superscript. 2. The placement of the number is now in the margin, but needs to be in the normal starting position of body text. Of course the foot note texts then has to shift accordingly to the right, and leaving enough room for footnote numbers not exceeding 99. How do I dot this? Greetings, Rob

local environment?

Dear all, What is the replacement for `localenvironment` in project structures? The first part of my book has one layout; the second has another. I have designed one environment for the first part, and another environment for the second. I do not want the first environment to be used for the second half of the book. In cont-eni.pdf, I read about using `localenvironment` for such scenarios, but it seems this has been removed. This is probably a very basic question, but how do I should change the following such that *one pdf* is produced, where the first part—ComponentA—uses EnvironmentA’s layout, while the second part—ComponentB—uses EnvironmentB's. Is this a bug?

Hello, all-- I asked this question a few days ago, in the context of solving a problem I was having. That problem is solved, thanks to Wolfgang, but I haven't seen any response to my mention of what I think is a bug. The issue I was having was that, when I tried to process an old project with mkIV, there was no output because the project structure was obsolete: it contained a project and several products, but no components. But even though there was no output, there was also no error message, and in fact the log file falsely reported that a PDF file had been saved. That can't be right, can it? Seems like a bug. The reported bidi issue with footnotes had to do with some unhboxing that doesn't play well with the bidi analyzers, i.e. in case of <new text> <unhboxed done text> <new text> the done text is already treated. No output for no apparent reason

Hello, ConTeXt people-- I am coming back to ConTeXt after a long absence (for about the 3rd or 4th time - maybe if I just stuck with it I wouldn't keep having these problems, eh?). I have a new installation of the standalone ConTeXt package on an Arch Linux system. I obtained the 'first-setup.sh' script according to instructions, then ran: ./first-setup.sh --modules=all --engine=luatex --context=current I also have TeXlive, including ConTeXt, installed as a regular Arch package; however, I don't intend to use it. In any case, I have sourced /opt/context/tex/setuptex, so I have: $ which context /opt/context/tex/texmf-linux-64/bin/context $ context --version mtx-context | ConTeXt Process Management 0.61 mtx-context | mtx-context | main context file: /opt/context/tex/texmf-context/tex/context/base/context.mkiv mtx-context | current version: 2015.05.18 12:26 I have tried the "hello world" example described on the wiki, and the output from that is exactly as expected, but I am having trouble with a couple of projects that I created in 2006. Each project is moderately complex, including an environment file and several product files. Each project produced output in the past. But now I run 'context <file>', and there are no obvious errors (except for fonts not found, but in that case the default font should be used instead, correct?), yet no PDF is produced. Furthermore, the log files say that PDF files were generated, e.g.: mkiv lua stats > result saved in file: hobo.pdf, compresslevel 3, objectcompresslevel 3 And yes, I've checked the modification times on the log files, and they are up to date. Of course I am not giving very much detail, but I have no idea what might be relevant. Any ideas about how to troubleshoot this? Thanks, Matt Gushee

Arabic/Hindi numerals in layout structures (headers, page numbers, etc.)

Dear all, When typesetting in Arabic (or, for that matter, other non-Latin scripts), how does one get numerals to appear ‘natively’ in layout structures such as headers, page numbers, line-numbering, and footnote numbers? In the case of Arabic, this means using the so-called “mashriqi”, or “Arabic-Indic”/“Arabic-Hindi” numerals. Is there some option when defining the font family? (I would have thought that using “\mainlanguage[arabic]” would have done it.) Of course, I am using a font that contains the numbers of that script. Mind you, if I manually type such numbers into the body of my text, they appear correctly. MWE below. Formatting TOC

Hello list, I need some adjustments to my TOC and chapter titles. 1. The title and the title of every chapter need to be indented (leaving enough room 2. The title of part does not need to be indented, but uses two consecutive lines, preceded and followed with a blank line, as follows DEEL <part number> <part title> 3. Chapter entries are on consecutive lines, except that between the first and second, and before the last chapter entry there is a blank line. (I use "\setuplist[chapter][before=]" and tried to use "\writebetweenlist[content]{\blank}" at the specified locations to get blank lines there, but this didn't work) 4. The part number needs to be capital roman numbers, and titles of chapters are preceded with the capital roman part number. (The option "conversion=Romannumerals" in "\setuphead[part]" doesn't seem to work) 5. There are 2 parts, part 1 with 5 chapters, part 2 with 4 chapters. Chapter numbering of part 1 only starts with 0 instead of 1. (I use currently the "ownnumber" option of \startchapter for all chapters of part 1, but is there a more simple or elegant option for this, just setting the chapter number 0 directly after part 1 starts or so?) Register customization for backmatter page numbers

List, I have a book with frontmatter, bodymatter, and backmatter. The frontmatter is pagenumbered with lc roman, and the bodymatter and backmatter are numbered, all by block. The backmatter contain a glossary, pagenotes, bibliography, and an index. In addition to the frontmatter and the bodymatter, both the glossary and the pagenotes contain items that are indexed. I need to distinguish pagenumbers that appear in the index so that the reader can identify where in the book the page is located. For the frontmatter, that is not a problem. For items that appear in the bodymatter or backmatter, however, page numbers are not unique. One method that has been suggested is to prefix the pagenumber displayed in the index with a mark to indicate that the page is in the backmatter, or to italicize it, or to use an alternate font. I have looked at the defineconversionset and defineprocessor documentation and find no way to mark index entries appropriately. Can anyone suggest a way to do this, or some other method? Perhaps a pagecommand that compares the register item real page number to the highest real page number of the body? I would prefer a solution that does not require changing the register commands (\index) in the text. Bleeding pictures as floats?

Hi, I hope BachoTeX was a success! Is it possible to use the float placing mechanisms for pictures that go beyond the type area or even beyond the page? In the book I’m typesetting, most pictures need to fill the whole width of the page (i.e. plus 3mm bleed), but not all cover a full page. I don’t know how to tell \externalfigure or \placefloat a negative offset. Or can I use layers with floats? Of course the text should flow around the pictures. Printing bibliographic entries without the full publication list

Dear Hans & Alan, I would like to manually print the selected list of publications, like this: \usebtxdataset[items.bib] \usebtxdefinitions[aps] \starttext \startitemize \item \cite[entry][bib1] \item some random text \item \cite[entry][bib5] \stopitemize \stoptext The problem is that this doesn't print anything unless I add \placelistofpublications somewhere. While I do understand (to some extent at least) the rationale for not printing the number of bib item when \placelistofpublications is missing, I don't see any reason why I should be unable to print the complete publication that doesn't even require printing out any number. Any hints about how to do a workaround? I could do \nocite[bib1] \nocite[bib5] \placelistofpublications but then I'm unable to do manual tweaking of the list and adding free text. Hans, many thanks for having fixed the issues with bookmarks in latest beta from 2015.07.28 15:15. I have a pending issue with interactive documents. We discussed here some months ago (). The issue is that notes (footnotes and linenotes) have the same kind of interactive links as the rest of the links in the PDF document. Hi Mojca, Despite being neither Hans nor Alan I could perhaps offer you the possibility of a simple workaround, I think you could do what you need in the same way as when you put bibliographic references in a footnote. So in your case it would be: \startitemize \item \dcite{citekey1} item some random text \item \dcite{citekey2} \stopitemize In any case this works for me but my bibliographic setup may be different from yours. Input order of modular environment files

Hi all, inspired by [1] I want to setup modular environment files and include them on demand with the option --environment. I think that I will have separate files for general settings, for fonts and for different papersizes, so that I can typeset with different settings on-the-fly. Is there an order in which definitions must be made, for eg. fonts first, pagelayouts second etc...? Do you have any recommendations how I should structure the environments? I am going to compile XML files, so I will also have an environment file which defines the XML-TeX mapping. Section heading colors lost with \startbodymatter

This worked (the numbers were darkgray and there was a red dot separator) until the last beta or two. With the new betas, those colors disappear in the bodymatter mode and in appendices mode % When start/stop bodymatter is enabled, the number color and % separator colors are lost. How can I control the amount of space left on a line before breaking the line within and without a framed consistently? Any insight is welcome. Multiline equations break grid in columnsets

So this time I'll go into greater detail: The grid system in columnsets works very well until the moment you include a multiline equation somewhere. This causes the entire rest of the page to be out of alignment with the grid. reverse page order and reverse page numbering in one part of a book

Dear all, I am producing a book that is divided into two sections. The book is published in English, and thus it runs left to right. Part one is an academic study in English. Part two is a critical edition of an Arabic text. The book is exactly 100 pages long, with fifty pages going to the English study, and fifty pages to the Arabic edition. In Part One (which includes all the front matter of the book, such as the table of contents, etc.): the page ordering runs left-to-right, the pagination runs from 1 to 50, and the page numbers should be printed in Arabic numerals. However, in Part Two (the Arabic text): the page ordering should run right-to-left, the page numbers should run in “reverse” pagination (in which “page 1" of the critical edition begins at the “back” of the book), and the page numbers should be printed in Hindi numerals. In other words, the structure of the book’s pages would be as follows (ellipses used to jump): 1 2 3 … 48 49 50 ٥٠ ٤٩ ٤٨ … ٣ ٢ ١ I would like the Table of Contents then to look something like this: Forward . . . . . . v English Study . . . 1 Arabic Edition. . . ١ Index of names. . . ٥٠ So my question is: is this currently possible in ConTeXt, to produce a single PDF, with such a TOC, from one file? Or am I bringing on too much of a headache upon myself, and it is easier to produce two separate files — but if so, how would one produce a TOC that includes the parts and page numbers of both documents? can't run external lua library

I'm trying to reuse a old library to generate poisson numbers. In old context versions the library works fine, but in the current beta (ConTeXt ver: 2015.07.16 13:30 MKIV beta fmt: 2015.7.23 int: english/english) the execution fails. I don’t know whether the rejection is exclusively related to mailbox.org or it will happen with all my replies to any message from the list. Is there any way to whitelist my address for the mailing list? Sorry for the problems, but I have already experienced this and I would like to fix it forever. fonts not found with newotf

Hans, as reported in a previous message, using beta from 2015.07.16 13:30, enabling the newotf module in the following sample makes the Mechanica fonts not being loaded in the final PDF document: \usemodule[newotf] \definefontfamily [txfont] [tt] [Mechanica] [tf=file:Mechanica.otf, it=features:slanted, sc=file:MechanicaSC.otf] \setupbodyfont[txfont] \starttext \tt Test {\it amfe} {\sc amfe} \stoptext The attached newotf-error.log contains the error message. Since both font files were generated with FontForge, I would like to know what they are missing to report upstream to the FontForge developers. SyncTeX (TeXworks) - \enabledirectives[system.synctex] (now with attachments)

Hello, two questions related to SyncTeX (and maybe on TeXworks): 1. The following code: ---- \enabledirectives[system.synctex] \starttext Hello! \startluacode % line 6 context("Something") \stopluacode \stoptext ---- doesn't produce SyncTeX file (SyncTeX.synctex.gz). When I compile the file with "context.exe --synctex" option, the file is produced. Does it mean that "\enabledirectives[system.synctex]" is deprecated? 2. In the code above, text "Hello!" is generated in "normal TeX scope" whilst "Something" is generated from within Lua. When I click "Jump to source" from TeXworks editor and previewer, jumping from "Something" works well and goes to the source "SyncTeX.mkiv" correctly. "Jumping to source" from "Something" yields "Cannot read file <directory-of-the-source-file>" error (see attached picture). I don't know whether this relates to ConTeXt or rather TeXworks; for the case it should relate to ConTeXt, would it be possible generate an anchor (e.g.) to the nearest encapsulating \startluacode (if present; or \ctxlua, \cldcontext and so), so that "Jump to source" over "Something" would jump to \startluacode on "line 6"? The language module populates the BBEdit Includes Menu with files referenced by: \environment \project \product \component The language module begins looking for any file matches in the parent directory, and then searches recursively downward in the file system for any matching files.
