Hi Hans, the latest beta does not replace xml entities for which I have defined something like \xmltexentity{degree}{\textdegree} The problem is not there in 2015.09.13 13:31, but in 2015.10.09 21:28 (sorry don't have all the betas in between). I can make you a test file if you need it, but I guess the problem is obvious. Thomas

setupheader[state=high|empty]

Hi, if I try \setupheader[state=high] (or empty), it works only for the first chapter; i.e. at the start of second and every following chapter, the header text is visible. Is this intentional? Disable form fields, keep layout

If I disable interactive elements with \setupinteraction[state=stop], my form fields (widgets) disappear. This is of course intended, but I’d like to keep their space, because otherwise my form layout breaks completely. Is there any option to disable form field generation, but keep their size (i.e. their framed structure)? I need the same form for print and for online use, and it’s inconvenient to kick the fields out using Acrobat Pro... reference points with double colons (::) are not working

Hello, I have double colons (::) in my reference points. (It's actually the same string I also use to refer to my publication database) But they wont show up as you can see in the example below. Is there any way to fix this? Fonts... bold smallcaps

Hi all, sorry for bothering you with this. I have a font Seravek-Regular.otf and Seravek-Bold.otf. It is actually my company font. Now I needed to use bold-smallcaps. But I can not get it working, though otfinfo tells, that in the bold font there are smallcaps In my typescript file I have the following two lines, from which the Regular variant works perfectly well. \definefontsynonym [SansCaps] [Seravek-Regular] [features=smallcaps] \definefontsynonym [SansBoldCaps] [Seravek-Bold] [features=smallcaps] I tried to get bold smallcaps with \bf\sc but without success. chapter numbering

The reference manual explains that one can set individual numbers on a chapter: \setuphead[subsection][ownnumber=yes] \subsection{399}{The old number} So I tried \setuphead[chapter][ownnumber=yes] but then I am in the dark how to use this. The reference manual (september 2013 -- latest?) was of no help because it does treat \chapter but not yet explains \startchapter. Neither did the ConTeXt Commands (July 2015 version) offer me I clue. I tried \startchapter[number=6] but this doesn't work. How to? Hans van der Meer

Hi everybody, An even more minimal example \setupinteraction[state=start,focus=standard] % <- defect %\setupinteraction[state=start, focus=fit] % <- works \starttext \reference[tuf]{Tufte} \input tufte \page \about[tuf]. \stoptext The resulting PDF has an annotation that points to a named destination "(tuf)". But "Names" in the PDF root contains then key "(#1)" and a correct destination as value. It is only the key in the Names tree that is wrong. Unfortunately, I cannot locate the code where this is written (maybe strc-ref.lua?). Any help is welcome. Hello, while trying to create some interactive forms using latest beta (MkIV), I found that JavaScripts are only then copied into the PDF, if there’s a \goto referencing a JS function. This works only with method=dataset in current context. In beta the method=local works, but then \btxfield is broken for the :cite setups Is there a workaround or is this temporaily broken? reading attribute from ancestor element in XML

Hello list, I have an XML fragment like this: <div id="myid"> 12 blah blah... </div> In the typeset text I want to substitute the text of the sup element ("12") with the id ("myid") in its div grandfather. The xmlsetup associated to the sup element looks like this: \startxmlsetups xml:sup \xmlatt{\xmlfirst{#1}{../..}}{id} \stopxmlsetups This gives an error (TeX capacity exceeded). I'm using ConTeXt version 2015.06.15. I've tried \xmlfilter and \xmlall too, with different lpaths. Sometimes ConTeXt ends without errors, but I've never managed to get the text of that attribute. What's the right way to backtrack to parent and ancestor nodes?

Form with character separators

I would like to produce a form with a character separators. However, my code presents two problems: first, the character box has no fixed dimensions and, two, I can't indent the text when it occupies multiple lines (ex, address field). I tried to use the starttabulate environment, but without sucess. My questions are: Can I fix the size of the boxes? and Can I apply the starttabulate environment to indent the field description and align all descriptors and fields names (name, age, sex, race, address, ...)? Register sort method for unicode quotes

Is there a sort method that can be specified for register sorts that will ignore unicode quote marks (“‘’”) in the same way that primes ("') are ignored. Dear list, I try to process the following example from the testsuite (publications/basics-002.tex) but it seems to be broken with current context and beta. A few questions on registers, and on processors used with registers: Can processors be used on entries in \setregisterentry? My tests so far have not been successful. Can processors be used on one level of a two-level register {\index{Name+Processor->quotation precis}? Again, no success with attempts. Can something other than page numbers be the indexed item? I have a book with many quotations, each identified by a number (generated by \definelabel). For an index of quotations, it would be more useful to point to that quotation number than the page number. Perhaps the last requirement would be served by building a list with the quote number and quotation precis, suppressing the page numbers with pagenumber=\gobbleoneargument. But placelist does not seem to behave as one would hope. The example in the wiki for setuplist (shown below) does not print the numbers (1., 2.) in the first braced argument to writetolist. \definelist[Reprints][criterium=all] \starttext \section{Sec 1} \writetolist[Reprints]{1.}{List entry A} \subsection{Subsec 1} \writebetweenlist[Reprints]{\hrule} \writetolist[Reprints]{2.}{List entry B} \completelist[Reprints] \stoptext I would prefer a register solution to take advantage of similar formatting (column support and such) provided there, since this will appear with the book’s standard indices. -- Rik

Hello ConTeXist. Obviously, I discovered a mistake on the ConTeXt wiki. In section of cycles at URL http://wiki.contextgarden.net/System_Macros/Loops_and_Recursion are mentioned macros \looplevel and \loopdepth. Next problem with rfc4180splitter()

Hello ConTeXist, Some time ago, Hans solved my problem with the splitter. Now I solve correction an error in my module, which to me signaled Pablo Rodriguez. The problem is with jednosloupcovými CSV files, which thus do not contain separators row fields. Pablo say, that CSV files without colon contains separators, because line breaks are separators. Commas—or semicolons—are required when having more than a cell in the same line. For example LibreOffice Calc spares the final semicolon when only the file only contains one column and this behavior seems to be right, according to the RFC4180: Common Format and MIME Type for Comma-Separated Values (CSV) Files. We think that the final comma separator should optional, not mandatory. The following example shows, however, that rfc4180splitter () in onecolumn CSV file fails and falls with an error. Making I'm a mistake somewhere, or is something else wrong with the splitter? PPCHTEX: bonds overlaps the radicals groups

Some time ago I wrote the code attached to create random branched organic molecules. However, with recent versions of Context the carbon-carbon bonds overwrites the radicals. How can I fix this? Another question: is there a way to change the bonds color? I would like to blank some radicals and bonds and ask the students to draw it. Thanks and have a nice sunday.

formatting section and figure numbers

I do number my chapters with roman numerals with: \setuphead[chapter][conversion=Romannumerals] I would expect then that sections are numbered roman.arabic for example IX.1 This is not the case. While the chapter is numbered IX the sections are numbered 9.1 instead of IX.1. The numbering of floats with \placefigure luckily does the caption numbering right, i.e. there I see IX.1 as its number. Using \setuphead[section][conversion=Romannumerals] fails because then IX.I is produced, clearly not what is desired although the caption numbering is not influenced. Using \setuphead[section][number=no] does not help either, because then the captions loose their chapter number. What to do? Hans van der Meer

Otherwise, it won’t get hyphenated at all. If I add \hyphenation{Con-TeXt}, no kerning will be applied in the pair nT. suppress header-footers

With \noheaderandfooterlines one can suppress the header and footer lines on the current page. When using \setuplayout[location=doublesided] a blank page is generated if necessary. However this generated page does contain header/footer, notwhithstanding the use of \noheaderandfooterlines. Is it possible to avoid this? Hans van der Meer

Hello, there is a way to select the line thickness of a \hl[n] command? I want to use \hl[n] for a fillin space in a question/answer document. The \fillinline, \fillinrules, ... are not good for my goal because they extend the horizontal line until the end of the line. I need several fillin space of different width on the same line for question like: Complete the following sentence: bla bla bla __________ bla bla bla __________ bla bla bla______. Apostrophe instead of colon in PDF

Dear list, I think I stumbled into a bug in the latest beta. When using Minion Pro, ConTeXt changes a colon to an apostrophe. A minimal example: \definefontfamily [mainface] [rm] [Minion Pro] \setupbodyfont[mainface, 12pt] \starttext a: b \stoptext I think this was introduced so long ago. I do not track all the updates, but I update fairly regularly, and one of my older installs did not have the bug in question. Also TeXLive 2015 gets it right. Michal

Learning about Kerning

Hi, I am trying to use kerning in subject titles. \kernchracters works pretty good, but as you can see in the attached example, there is a gap before the Ts in Properties, and again in Praefatio and Praefationis. The \stretched command yields similar results, vis-à-vis the gaps. If somebody can enlighten me how to properly use kerning in this situation, I'd be immeasurably grateful. Cheers, Michael

Custom XML Export

I'm using ConTeXt's export to XML feature, but I'd like more control over the XML output. Is there a way to define a TeX command that will output a specific tag (<tag>content</tag>) around some text in the output? Ideally I'd like to write a completely custom XML printer; it would be very simple, but would allow me to define what tags I want for different things. Is there a way to change the behaviour of the existing one, or could you recommend a starting point for writing a new one? Many thanks, Toby

Hi, In the following MWE, the interactive link work only when setting focus=fit. The resulting PDF differs as follows: - focus=fit: This PDF has no named destinations. The link annotations on page 3 include destinations directly, and these destinations are correct. - focus=<something else>: This PDF has named destinations in Root->Names with names (#2) and (#3) and these named destinations are completely correct. Wiki maintenance

Hi all, Today I copied the ConTeXt wiki to a new server, in preparation for the decommissioning the current old server, which should happen within a week or so. I’ve disabled wiki page editing at the old location for now, while we wait for everybody’s DNS entries to catch up. You will know that you are accessing the new location because: * you can edit pages again :) * there is a “powered by Semantic MediaWiki” logo at the bottom of the page. Include 'urldate' in *.bst (Url citations with last checked date)

Hi, for a document I'm currently writing I need to cite some online resources including their last accessed date. Adding \insertbiburl[..] to a citation style does work fine to get the urls printed. However, the *.bst styles only check for 'lastchecked' tag for a last accessed date. I don't know if there's any standard way for specifying the date but 'lastchecked' and 'urldate' seem to be two commonly used variants (as far as a quick web search tells - I'm on Zotero which also uses the last mentioned type). To get this temporary working for me I replaced the plain 'lastcheck' output in *.bst with: .. lastchecked empty$ {"" "\lastchecked" urldate do.out} {"" "\lastchecked" lastchecked do.out} if$ .. and added urldate to the list of known tags. Are there any chances to get this changed in the 'official' version (if there are no other points against this I don't see right now :))? Best regards, Jens

Finalizing my book

I am finalizing my semi-autogenerated e-book and i ran into three issues: 1) its impossible to place table of content after the content itself. It simply doesnt display without any trace in log. 2) i am triying to use Antykwa Torunska with "\definetypeface [antykwa] [rm] [serif] [antykwa-torunska] [default] [encoding=ec]", but it complaint for misssing typescript. Is there some working way to install it? (Using minimals) 3) is there some trick to protect stanzas of poems against pagebreak in the middle of stanza? Or there are some usefult tips/modules when typeseting poetry in Context? Formula numbering

Hello! I recently had to reformat a document that contains mathematical notation and I was surprised how easy it was once I got the hang of it. There's only one tiny problem: I have one equation inserted with \placeformula. Currently this formula gets numbered as equation 2.1 as it is in chapter two. I would prefer it to be called just (1) instead of (2.1). The display math page at <http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Math/Display> says to use \setupnumber[formula][way=bysection] to get formulas numbered by section, but there are no hints on numbering the formulas with a running number independent of the section numbering. Forced page break in a TOC

Hello, is there a way to achieve the following look of TOC: " 1 Sec ........................ 2 1.1 A very very very very very very long section name ... 2 " ^ ^ | | - aligned here instead of: " 1 Sec ........................ 2 1.1 A very very very very very very long section name ... 2 " i.e. the page numbers to be aligned "in one column", no matter whether an entry flows onto more lines, and a multiline TOC entry text to start at each line at the same position? I want to jump from the generated pdf to an external document. For example to something like file:///Volumes/MYDISK/users/me/Documents/thisone.jpg. Especially when writing a document that refers to many external documents this makes referencing back to sources a lot easier. footnote coloring

I want to color all elements of a footnote, but I cannot find how to do this. Minimal example: \def\rednumber#1{\color[red]{#1}} \starttext \setupfootnotes[textcolor=red,numbercommand=\rednumber,foregroundcolor=red] This text\footnote{the footnote} contains a footnote. \stoptext The footnotenumber in the text is the only element that gets colored because of the [textcolor=red] parameter setting. In the command reference it is [numbercommand=\rednumber]. Shouldn't that have made the color of the footnotenumber below? Since \setupfootnotes inherits from setupframed I expected [foregroundcolor=red] to do the trick for the content of the footnote, but it doesn't. How to? Hans van der Meer

Oddity: \buildtextaccent shifts glyph right

I am using \buildtextaccent to create a couple of characters that have no Unicode equivalent. They are scribal abbreviations that made it into early typesetters works. In this case, the abbreviation are for Latin que, which looks like a q with a small ezh appended in a subscript position, and q with an acute accent, both of which are used in some 17th century works I am dealing with. An example of the abbreviation with the ezh and accent can be seen at https://books.google.com/books?id=hHNVAAAAcAAJ&pg=PA6#v=onepage&q&f=false in the sixth line of the paragraph beginning “Yea but”. It seems that \buildtextaccent\textacute q (or \buildtextaccent´q) moves the q to the right within the character’s bounding box. The following example (and attached resulting pdf) demonstrates this. Lines 1 and 2 show the string with and without the \buildtextaccent, and lines 4 and 6 repeat that in italic. The strings are the same width, but the q is moved right. Lines 3 and 6 show a manual kerning of the q to improve appearance. This happens with many fonts, but not all (I do not see it with Computer Modern). I am using Win 10Pro x64 with ConTeXt ver: 2015.09.04 11:00 MKIV beta fmt: 2015.9.5 int: english/english. I suspect that this is not intended, but I am not sure. I would also love to raise the accent a bit. Suggestions? I can live with it as it is and manually kern as needed. Strange problem with EBGaramond st ligature and 20150901 beta

Please help with the strangest problem I have come across. The following document fails (does not complete, hangs) when the following conditions hold: * ConTeXt ver: 2015.09.01 11:10 MKIV beta fmt: 2015.9.3 int: english/english * \mainlanguage[en] or fr * Font EBGaramond otf from EBGaramond-0.016.zip https://bitbucket.org/georgd/eb-garamond/downloads * Font features clig and hlig * Font style \it or \sl * Text string (among others) astro istar istra ister istor istro istur The problem is the same with \usemodule[newotf] and without. The problem does not occur with: * ConTeXt ver: 2015.08.30 17:07 MKIV beta fmt: 2015.8.30 int: english/english. * \mainlanguage la or de. * \tf or \sc or \bd (there is no bold in the font). The issue appears to be related to the st ligature, but only in conjunction with some other letters. Can somebody else reproduce the problem. For the record, this is running on Windows 10 Pro 64-bit. Table setups interfering with another table?

Hello! I have a bit of a table mystery. It seems that the setups of an earlier table interfere with the table coming after it (in the real thing there's text between the tables, but the behaviour is the same). Each table looks fine by itself, but if I compile a file with both, the second one looks weird. What is it that I don't see or understand? And yes, the tables really need to look like that. I'm recreating from a pdf a document that is probably made with Word and this is how they've done their tables in the original. I admit that my ConTeXt version isn't exactly the newest available, it is dated 2015.02.03. If the combination of tables works in newer versions, I'll update, otherwise I'm not keen to fiddle with a working combo. As always, I'll be grateful for any help I can get, Mari

I seem to remember that it was possible to place a figure over the whole width of the page inside columns as for example \startsimplecolumns[n=2] text in 2 columns placefigure-over-fullwidth further text in 2 columns \stopsimplecolumns However, I cannot find with what command this was accomplished. The `\somewhere`-macro

The wiki states on page http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Latex_Packages#varioref that the macro `\somewhere` can be used to get same behaviour as varioref gives in LaTeX: > varioref > Context provides similar functionality using \somewhere Some more searching around made me find http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Command/somewhere There I can see, that I have to provide 2 text-arguments in curly braces and the references name in squarebrackets. So I did exactly that in an experiment. \somewhere{Foo}{Bar}[foo:bar] This does create a clickable “Foo” when the reference exists somewhere in the document, independent off the fact that this reference is on the same page or anywhere else. When the reference does not exists, “foo:bar” is typeset. XML expression to read HTML classes

Hello list, I'm working on HTML typesetting with ConTeXt. To omit it I need to access the current collected element. At page 25 of "Dealing with XML in ConTeXt MkIV" it is said that the predefined variables "list","l","ll" (I think I need that one) and "order" are available, but I did not manage to access them. How can I get the current element in Lua to write local classAttr = xml.attribute(currentElement, "", "class") ? Thanks in advance, Massi

Set PDF TrimBox

Hi Hans, in May Harald König asked about setting the TrimBox value in PDFs and provided even a patch for lpdf-mis.lua; you promised to look into that, see http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.tex.context/91544/ If there’s only one paper size (from \setuppapersize), TrimBox is the same as CropBox. If there’s a second paper size (like from \setuppapersize[A4][B4]), TrimBox is the first. At least if there’s "marking=on|color|..." in \setuplayout, please also set BleedBox, even if we can’t influence the bleed value. Would be nice if there would be an option to let CropBox be the same as TrimBox or BleedBox. We don’t need ArtBox (in PDF/X it must not differ from TrimBox, if defined). Could you please implement this? Should be really easy… I’m tired of fixing the boxes in Acrobat every time. Thank you very much! How to prevent sentence-case arttitle in the bibliography?

I seek to prevent any modification of the capitalization of article titles in the bibliography. What do I need to change in the ConTeXt code to achieve this? The other citation styles I tried besides APA also feature lowercasing. I am aware of a workaround: Enclosing the capital letters in the .bib file with curly brackets. However, I would prefer a method that does not involve editing the .bib database. I use Mark IV. My approach was to edit /usr/share/texmf-dist/tex/context/bib/bibl-apa.tex, however, I could not find a way to locate or modify the macro \insertarttitle. Regards, Andreas Becker

\writebetweenllst not working for frontmatter material?

hello list, I want a TOC in which there is a blank line AFTER the first chapter in the TOC and BEFORE the last chapter in the TOC. (other chapter entries in the TOC don't have blank lines between them). I can achieve this with: \writebetweenlist[chapter]{\blank} but unfortutaly for chapter in frontmatter the above method does not produce a blank line in the TOC. Anyone has a clue as why not? boxedcolumns ruins framed

In \boxedcolumns text a framed test gets extra (unwanted) depth (first example). This does not happen in \simplecolumns (second example). See the ABCD-boxes in the minimal example. Expand a part of TOC
