Buffer with syntax highlighting

Hello, is it possible to \typebuffer with a syntax highlighting? \typefile allows to specific syntax highlighter, e.g. \typefile[TEX]{file.tex}; \typebuffer does not (AFAIK). It would be useful to have: \startbuffer[demo] \startitemize \item Hello! \stopitemize \stopbuffer which would get the original code and its result: " Sample code: \typebuffer[demo][syntax=ConTeXt] % Specify syntax highlighter, show the code produces: \getbuffer[demo] % Result " Is it possible somehow? Titles numbering

The following file used to give me numbered titles (and still gives numbered titles in TeXLive): \setuphead[part][ placehead=yes, page=yes, % number=yes ] \setuphead[chapter][ page=yes, % number=yes ] \starttext \startpart[title={Part one}] \startchapter[title={Fancy chapter name}] \startsection[title={A very very very long section title}, list={Shortened somewhat}] \input knuth \stopsection \stopchapter \stoppart \startbackmatter \startchapter[title={Contents}] \placecontent[criterium=all] \stopchapter \stopbackmatter \stoptext In the current beta, they are unnumbered. Has the syntax changed? Besides, according to wiki, "number=yes" should force a numbered title, while uncommenting these lines in fact suppresses the number in TeXLive (and does not help in beta). Is this a bug/work in progress or am I doing something wrong here? Regards Michał

new error in Context-Metapost

Some code that worked ok but hasn't been used for some time, now gives an error: missing $. It is working fine in ConTeXt, but putting it inside an MPpage goes wrong. Here a minimal example, the output of the ConTeXt run and the error on the MPpage run. Has something changed I missed? Absolute position in table cell

Hi all, I'd like to position some text in a corner of a natural table cell. I got as far as being able to put the same text on every cell (a "p" in the example). Now my problem is, how do I specify the contents of the overlay/layer on a per cell basis? Best for me would be if I could define the text directly within the cell. I'm surely open to a completely different solution that has the same outcome. Hi, this is a quick question before I start coding: for my next presentation style, I would like to have a list of topics with the current topic highlighted. There are already two styles in simpleslides doing this, but this time, I'd like the list to be horizontal, at the bottom of the slide. Is there already a listalternative for this? Or is it not too complex to have a \definelistalternative do this? Or would it be easier not to rely on the list mechanism but code something from scratch? Thanks for your advice and all best Thomas

Usedirectory and paths in OSX and Windows

Hello ConTeXist. I use standalone ConTeXt in both OS - Windows and Mac (OSX El Captain) together for my onedrive synchronized data. Can anyone advise me whether you can somehow arrange compatibility of paths to my libraries? For example the following: In windows I have: \usedirectory[c:/path/to/myown/library/directory/module/] \usemodule[mymodule] Where c:/ is root directory ... Is there possible put path into library in any "compatibility mode" of both OS? Is there any possibility define starting point of path? If the answer is trivial, than sorry. I note that I am a complete beginner MAC OSX and although I advanced user of Windows, then some basic things in OSX yet I reveal hardly. Thanx Jaroslav Hajtmar

Hello, during typesetting a document I'm collecting some information. At the end (i.e. right before \stoptext or right after \stoptext), I'd need to perform an operation. The way is to place some code before my code: \starttext ... \DoSomethingMine \stoptext But I'm looking for a way that the code inside document prepares the final operation and a way to avoid writing "\DoSomethingMine" before \stoptext (or \stopcomponent) - something being processed by ConTeXt naturally. Something like: \starttext ... \startluacode context.reactors.jobfinished = function(prev_op) -- Do something mine prev_op() end \stopluacode ... \stoptext % ConTeXt to call "context.reactors.jobfinished" or similar implicitly Does ConTeXt offer something like described? Character rotation font feature available?

Dear list, I have some special needs that requires all the characters be rotated by 90 degrees. I've searched around the web and maybe adding /FontMatrix [0 1 -1 0 0 0] to the font descriptor dictionary is helpful. But I can't find a \pdf??? primitive that can achieve this. (Am I wrong about this?) Another solution might be the "vrt2" font feature. There's no difference between the results with or without enabling the feature. But I do see the font has the feature by using the shell command: otfinfo -f <fontname.otf> May I put my temporary unsatisfying code here and ask for optimization? issue with Junicode font and \input

Dear list, I have the following sample: \definefontfamily[mainface][rm][Junicode] \setupbodyfont[mainface] \starttext \input zapf \stoptext Junicode can be downloaded from https://sf.net/projects/junicode/files/junicode/junicode-0-7-8/. I experience an endless loop (or an unended compilation that I have to kill) if "\input zapf" is selected. But the weird thing is that compilation works fine if "\input knuth" is selected. font switches: bold, slanted, etc.

Hi, Basic font switches are bold (\bf), italic (\it), slanted (\sl), ... and one can have bolditalic (\bi), boldslated (\bs), etc. We also have style=bold, style=slanted, etc. Is there some way to manipulate font switches so that \bold{This text is \slated{bold}} for example, would put the word "bold" into boldslanted? A natural use of this is, e.g. headers that get typeset in bold. What if the title contains a word, say, in slanted (or, worse, some mathematics)? Alan

Dear list, I have the following sample: \setuplabeltext[subsection=Párrafo~] \setuphead[subsection][style=\bf, deepnumbercommand={(}] \starttext \subsection{Condiciones} \stoptext I want the title to be: Párrafo (1) Condiciones How can I set this with deepnumbercommand? How to use Helvetica Neue Light (OS X)?

I am coming back to using ConTeXt after a relatively long hiatus, so I am trying to re-learn old things and learn the new stuff. Please bear with me. I want to use OS X's Helvetica Neue Light in a document. How may I do that? I have tried: \definefontfamily [myfamily] [serif] [Helvetica Neue Light] but, fair enough, that results in `font with asked name 'unknown' is not found`. If I use \definefontfamily [myfamily] [serif] [Helvetica Neue] then the document is typeset in Helvetica Neue, but in boldface. Why? Floating split TABLE misaligned

Hi, I presume I found a bug in TABLE placement. The attached examples shows, that the split TABLE is not centered on the first page, bug centered on the second. I would expect it to be centered in both cases. Best regards, Andreas

Lost in letter module

Hi all, I am completely lost in the letter module. I started with the tutorial "Correspondence with ConTEXt Version: 2010.08.27" but reference line does not show up at all. So I read a little further: http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Letter And the PDFs that are linked under "Further information" But I fear that I am now completely lost as some commands seems to be old or deprecated or whatever, but they simply does not work. And there are references to new commands in the text. What I am trying to get is a letter with first and second page style, where on the first page I need a special foot with accounting infos etc. Including a background file (uncommented in the mwe) works fine. I need a references line for customer id, invoice id and date just above the subject. I don't understand the setupletterlayer command as you can see in the mwe where I use a negative value for x to push it to the right position. I have no idea how x and y are working and what position is for. The same is true for \setupletterframe. numbering problem

The following problem in the numbering of equations, figures, tables has arisen. For the subdivison of the document is wanted the numbering scheme chapter (numbered) section (numbered) subsection (numbered} subsubsection (not numbered) Doing this with \setuphead[subsubsection][number=no], because I find 3 levels of numbering enough. However, the number=no on the last \setuphead has as sideeffect that the chapternumber is missing on equations, figures, tables. Thus for example instead of "table 1.4" I am seeing "Table 4". How can I keep the numbering at 3 levels instead of 4 in still have tables inside subsubsections numbered as "Table 1.4"? Hans van der Meer

Hyphenation of chemical names

ConTeXt has troubles hyphenating chemical names, which in organic chemistry can be funny things such as N-(4-n-alkoxybenzylidene)-4’-alkylaniline. The names can get much worse... The rules for hyphenating in chemistry are well defined. Without putting specific hyphenating hints into the names themselves, I do not know how to go about adding these rules into ConTeXt. Of course, they can differ slightly by language, but the system is pretty much the same. Does anyone know how to deal with this? Maybe we need special rules that get applied within \chemical{}? Alan

Supported architectures for minimals (any ppc users out there?)

Hi, I would suggest dropping support for linux-ppc for the ConTeXt distribution unless somebody objects. I'm surprised about the number of ppc users on Mac (and would be curious to get more off-list feedback from those still using it). TeX Live planned to drop support this year, but it seems that it's staying for now. We are currently cross-compiling the binaries, but at the moment both luajittex and metapost compilations seem to be broken. We also don't seem to have any kfreebsd or sparc-solaris users, but as long as their builders enjoy supplying the binaries, that's fine by me ;) On the other hand I need to sit down one day and fix support for cygwin. I'm sorry that this didn't happen yet. Mojca

Hello, let's have a simple code: ---- \starttext \startTEXpage \externalfigure[Tv32.pdf]%[scale=500] \stopTEXpage \stoptext ---- It yields a blank (or empty) page (its size A1 is OK); and the size of the resulting .pdf is very close to that of the inserted image. The inserted Tv32.pdf is displayed correctly in Adobe reader, so why it is not processed by Ctx? Inside macro -processing read into a buffer the following part of the input \startmyinput ...\stopmyinput Analogous to input containing \startbuffer[mystoragebuffer] \startmyinput ... \stopmyinput \stopbuffer but now not executed at once, but stored in and executable from a buffer with \getbuffer[mystoragebuffer]. Sanitize " in XML/XHTML documents

Hi, I hope I don't just overlook some plain obvious solution, but a longer search in the Wiki and the mailing list (and the context source) didn't come up with anything too useful .... Anyway: is there any mechanism that I can use to "fix" quotations while typesetting XML documents? Pandoc produces "some text". In TeX I would usually use \quotation{some text} to have proper, language dependent quotes. I tried to intercept " using \xmltexentity{quot}{...} but apparently the internal replacement takes precedence here. Otherwise I would have tried to build some small state machine which remembers if it is currently inside a quotation of not. My next try would be to somehow intercept the XML stream (or flush) using lua and replace " ... " inline. However that all seems quite hacky. So, does ConTeXt currently offer anything I can piggyback to get quotations set properly? :-) Best regards, Andreas

Hyphenation list ignored

It has taken me some time to conjecture that *mwe* would probably mean *minimal working example* and somewhat more to try to concoct something that could pass for it, but here it is, in the attached file *mis-hyph.tex*. I hope not to have incurred in any gross mistake. Attached are also three other files (*exhibit-n.pdf*) which show the results of its compilation under three different circumstances. These circumstances are described at the end of each typeset text. Mishyphenated words are underlined. Inept as it is, this example has proved to me that I was mistaken in my initial supposition that the problem was related to the importing mechanism of a separate file containing the exceptions' list. The difficulty seems now to lie deeper into the hyphenation machinery itself. I would be glad if it could be of any help to solve it. Kind regards Francisco

ConTeXt vs Beamer

Hello, I have just checked that my first post to this list was more than 10yrs ago (end of 2002). Then I was working on some full-sized books and ended up with LyX/LaTex. Later, had few attempts to switch to ConTeXt, but as a result I reduced even my LyX/LaTeX usage and was using light markups like rst/AsciiDoc for my writing needs without higher-quality typesetting. Yesterday I had to help my wife to put together some medicine-related presentation for the meeting at her working place and used LyX/LaTeX with Beamer class. Considering that there might be need to do such thing more often in the future as well as possibility that I might have to produce lot of presentations for my public lectures/workshops based on philosophy (iow. no need of math), I am again in the position to consider ConTeXt, but this time mostly for presentations. I'm (well) aware of ConTeXt's advantage in the sense of being complete package without clashing of different packages which usually happens in LaTeX world, I wonder if someone can give some piece of advice to learn and/or switch ConTeXt for preparing presentations instead of learning lot of LaTeX packages? How does ConTeXt compare for the purpose vs LaTeX/Beamer? I'm on Linux (running Debian Sid) and use Vim as my primary editor so wonder if ConTeXt users recommend to e.g. prepare drafts of their documents like rst/AsciiDoc/markdown and then convert them into ConTeXt with tool(s) like Pandoc? text wrapped around \textwidth sized images unwantedly.

I use ConTeXt for a document with many images. The text should float around the images, if possible. The floating itself works fine, but some images are equal or larger than \textwidth (so they are maxwidth=\textwidth). Instead of breaking above the image and starting below it again, the algorithm tries to float a bit of text (about 2-4 characters each line) around the image using space outside the text area (which naturally causes overfull \hbox-es). Is there any way to prevent this? If not, I define another float for these images and assign it to the affected images, but I wonder if I can get around this. Kind Regards, Jan

Hyphenation list ignored

This is to report a problem I am presently experiencing with Context. The symptom is that the contents of an hyphenation list, implemented as an outstanding file, I use for typesetting a lating text are no longer taken into account when performing the hyphenation operations. This happens with the current version of Context and apparently has been operative during the last month or two. I have checked older jobs performed in preceding months and the process worked as it should. Nothing has been altered in the way of working on this side or in the running script. Hello fellow ConTeXt users, I want to place figures left so that text wraps around them if they have less width than \textwidth. The figure captions should be aligned left (flushleft). What happens: The captions are all centered. Details: -------- If I use default={here,nonumber} instead of default={left,nonumber} in\setupfloat[figure][default=..., the captions are aligned left, just like they should. It does not matter if the text warps around the captioned image, the centered is present for all figure-captions, regardless of their width. Problem with rfc4180splitter

Hello ConTeXist. After some time I tried to run my older scripts using the latest version of the standalone ConTeXt and I found that my scripts crashing. When I testing, I discovered that the culprit is likely to be some change splitter utilities.parsers.rfc4180splitter. Can you please advise anybody that somehow did change the functionality of this script and aproximatelly in which date? Shading to transparent using withshademethod

ConTeXt on android via "debian noroot"-App

Hello ConTeXt-Crew, thank you very much for this fantastic application. I'm a former LaTeX-user and now I can't imagine to go back ever. Recently I tried to install ConTeXt in an android smartphone with help of the app "debian noroot". Everything went fine and I'm able to compile documents, but all \framed-Commands lead to the error-message "tex error on line 2 in file...: !You can't use '\hrule' here except with leaders" The minimal example is: \starttext \framed{Hello} \stoptext I suspect the cause for this might be missing packages (metapost?). Can you give me any hint, what packages I have to install? I installed the ConTeXt Standalone from contextgarden and I'm running context version 2016.01.18 22:21 (ConTeXt Process Management 0.63). I already tried to install the package texlive-metapost, but it didn't help. Help would highly be appreciated. Thanks in advance Thomas Klein.

Overfull boxes using m-cweb

Hello, I am running into overfull boxes when including a weaved cweb file into a context document. The original reference to the cwebmac.tex file (the plain TeX macro) is commented out and replaced by \usemodule[cweb]. The cweb macros appear to expand something into \*11ptmmmt* which seems to have something to do with it. Is there anyone here with experience and deep (Con)TeX(t) knowledge who understands what is happening? Dear Saša Janiška, I’d like tell you about my case. I have used Beamer long time ago, but now I am using ConTeXt + Simpleslides module for my presentations. There are already many given templates. You can find them in the doc of simple slides.(…../tex/texmf-modules/doc/…) However we can make our own template if we want. Although I am not an expert, I made my own template by modifying the given templates. I think that ‘animation module’ is also a good module for presentation. Dear list, are there any plans to have a documentation sprint at Kalenberg? I am currently trying to setup a small documentation about ConTeXt in order to better learn how to use it, and I face several issues. 1. documentation is scattered. Sources of documentation are the Wiki and a lot of PDF documents. 2. it is not always possible to decide whether a pdf document is related to MKII or MKIV. So I start reading only to learn that it is outdated. 3. Incorrect boundingbox information in .tma files for Chinese OTF fonts

Hi, After updated minimals to 2016.01.18 22:21, I found that the boundingbox information on some chinese puncts is not right. For example, the comma(uni: FF0C, decimaly: 65292) in Adobesongstd-light.otf font, boundingbox should be "{ 171, -58, 370, 240 }". But in the .tma file which is generated by context cmd, the boundingbox of the comma is "{ 152, -33, 833, 648 }". The attachment describe these. Dear Otared, You are welcome. It is not my code. As you know I am just an enduser of ConTeXt. I also always thank to Hans, ConTeXt team and this list. Here are always answers! I mainly use ConTeXt to prepare documents, math papers, and class materials. It is really good to use Metafun and Lua inside ConTeXt with ease. Problem with \inouter and text justification

Dear all, I am trying to add margin notes and for some reason I do not understand when having them in the main text, the main text which normally would be fully justified (without notes) is now aligned to left, but right side is erratic. I attach a simple MWE showing this. If you disable the notes uncommenting the no op versions of \R and \N macros the text is perfectly justified. Any hint on what I am doing wrong or some solution to avoid this please? Bug: RTL \framed when aligned

Hello, There seems to be a bug in RTL documents when \framed goes in \leftaligned, \midaligned, or \rightaligned AND corner=round option is used. (I don't know what other options trigger the bug.) Here is the MWE (verified in ConTeXt ver: 2016.01.18 22:21 MKIV beta fmt: 2016.1.19 int: english/english): \setupalign[r2l] \starttext \midaligned \framed[corner=round, width=.5\hsize] {Hello! RTL columns for itemize

Hi, Is there a way to typeset \startitemize with columns options, such that columns go from right to left? In the underlying structure \startstopcolumns, there is an option "direction" which can be set to "left" to achieve this. Greek diacriticals (combining perispomenon displaced)

There is an oddity in processing Greek. The combining diacritical perispomenon is not positioned properly, though it appears as it should in the source file. This diacritical is placed properly if one inserts the appropriate character directly. The PDF file produced by this sample shows the problem as it appears using two different Greek fonts. Hi Jan, hi Hans, This is the developer of EB Garamond. I’m only now and then reading this list so I only learnt about your troubles now. The way the ligatures are composed simplifies the creation of more ligatures after the same scheme while not blowing up the font by having to create one glyph per ligature combination but only one per component. In fact, it’s not just kerning, like Hans said, but one-by-one glyph substitutions. It might be seen as inconsistency that one feature can be executed in different ways. I know of that problem but it’s not that inconsistent at user level if you use the methods intended by unicode and opentype to deal with breaking up ligatures. The symbol ZWNJ (zero width non joiner) is exactly meant to do this so if you insert it, you should get what you want. What’s more, by inserting ZWNJ you should also be able to benefit from kerning between the non ligated f and the following letter or from contextual alternate forms that fit better than the long bowed f, if you want that. With EB Garamond, this should be true for both, engines that handle ZWNJ correctly or not. By the way, the newly standardized German keyboard layout even has the ZWNJ on it and the norm recommends its use to prevent ligation. Hello Hans and Dr. Dominik Klein! Today I found a Thread about Accessibility from last Juli! I work at the University in Vienna, and I work with students, who are blind or have a see handicap. So I read this Thread today. Last year in Summer I began to read the manual of Context. I have a question to this discussion, it is nessesary to know: How can footnotes be shown in the PDF/A tagged PDF, in a text? What I mean something, that shows in the Text the text from the footnote, when I click on the number from the footnote. Maybe with a tooltip? Or what is the right way? Which command? Ursula Hermann

TeX in \xmlsetentity and DTDs in DOCTYPEs

Hi. I'm using MkIV's XML stuff. I have two related questions. Firstly, can I have entities in XML expand out to TeX markup? I thought this was how you'd do it, but this produces a document that says literally "xxx~yyy\thinspace zzz", whereas I want the ~ and \thinspace to be executed as TeX commands. Test case below. Secondly, is it possible to have ConTeXt load such entities from a DTD? If I use a DOCTYPE in my XML, entities from that DTD seem to not be loaded. \replaceword and \setreplacements with xml files

Dear list, some time ago I ask for a way to selectively suppress ligatures. Hans told me to use the replacement feature. - http://www.ntg.nl/pipermail/ntg-context/2015/083044.html - http://www.ntg.nl/pipermail/ntg-context/2015/083034.html In another thread a solution with the translate module was shown http://tex.stackexchange.com/a/37465/323 http://tex.stackexchange.com/a/28746/323 Both solutions work fine if I use them in a simple context file, but I can't use neither solution in my xml processing. I use a customized version of the from-pandoc-to-context solution of Pablo. When I place the replacement commands somewhere in the style file I get no result. I can see no error message. The file is compiled just fine but without replacements. Has anyone yet implemented replacements in xml processing and can give me a hint where to place the commands? TIA juh

RTL problem with figure numbers

Hi, Again this has been partly discussed on the list and solutions were already there but I didn't see anyone mention the issue with figures. In the following MWE we have 20 pages of a simple text with a section, a footnote and a figure on each page. The page numbers and footnote numbers are fine. Section numbers need some care to appear correctly. I couldn't figure out a similar mechanism for figure numbers, though. Binaries for Linux (warning)

Hi, Alan now tried compiling the luatex binaries for Linux on Debian rather than on some ancient CentOS (like he did in the past). In case that any Linux user experiences problems, please let us know and we'll switch back to CentOS with an older libc, otherwise we would prefer to stick with Debian (oldstable). Mojca

xtables doesn't work in CLD

Hi all, I am trying to use xtables in a CLD document but when I add a row, it doesn't compile anymore. Is there something wrong? When used in inside \emph, \quote puts the words cited into roman face. Thus, \starttext \emph{The \quote{Problemata} in Medieval Times} \emph{The \quote{\emph{Problemata}} in Medieval Times} \stoptext This seems odd. Should \quote not leave the style of the text as it is? That is, should the output of line 1 not look like that of line 2? Alan

Hi, Is it possible to have TeX markup executed in the text fields for \setupinteraction? I would like to do something like: \definemarking[xyz] \marking[xyz]{Hello} \setupinteraction[state=start] \setupinteraction[title={\getmarking[xyz][current]}] \setupinteraction[author={\getmarking[xyz][current]}] \starttext xyz=\getmarking[xyz][current] \stoptext But my generated PDF has literally "\getmarking[xyz][current]}" for the title and author. Defining \pagereference[xyz] en calling this some pages later with \atpage[xyz] I get as reference "at a previous page" (perhaps not exactly, the typesetting is done in dutch). This an unwanted result, that previous page is 7 pages before. How can I restrict this to either "on this page" or to the exact number of the page in question? Hans van der Meer
