Iterate through a directory

Colleagues I'm preparing a booklet of figures which are stored in a directory, however their is no structure in their naming. I could go through them all and rename them along the lines of Pict1.jpg, Pict2.jpg etc and \dostepwiserecurse as in the example below \setupexternalfigures [directory={/a/directory}] \starttext \dostepwiserecurse{1}{10}{1} { \externalfigure[Pict\recurselevel.jpg] } \stoptext However, I was wondering if was possible to iterate through the directory using a wildcard and have something like \externalfigure[*.jpg} to make it generic, or would I have to use lua. disabling page scaling

Dear list, I have the following sample: \setupinteractionscreen[option={paper,page}] \starttext \ConTeXt\ is awesome! \stoptext The values for the option key should enable "/PickTrayByPDFSize true" and "/Duplex /Simplex" in the PDF file. But I get an undesired "/PrintScaling /None" (I need to reduce the document to printing margins.) Checking lpdf-mis.lua, I see that there are two lists (or dictionaries, maybe [the technical term is beyond my knowledge]) controlling the printing options: pagespecs and plusspecs (both are local). page, portrait, landscape and paper involve fixed in the pagespecs dictionary. But these values don’t involve fixed in the plusspecs dictonary. How can I invoke the plusspecs dictionary from ConTeXt, so I can get duplex printing in the PDF file (or "/PickTrayByPDFSize true") without having to disable page scaling? And another request, could \TeX (and others) be prerolled to TeX instead of TEX? I think that there are two reasons in favor of this change: 1. \pushbackground for header/footer

Hi, Can one use {push,pop}background to save/restore backgrounds for header*text and/or footer*text areas? I'm trying to typeset a document where one page has a special background, which I set using \setupbackgrounds[header][text][background=color,backgroundcolor=gray]. Can I go back to the default setting afterwards or do I need to specify it explicitly. I know I can save whatever I put in \setupbackgrounds[page] using \pushbackground[page] and \popbackground. hz in MkIV

Hi, In MkIV, the syntax for using hz seems to have changed from \setupfonthandling to \setupfontexpansion (similarly for protrusion). What is the equivalent of the following? Is this feature supported in MkIV and LuaTeX? I tried changing/adding entries to fonts.expansions.vectors.quality (and .default) to no apparent avail. \startfonthandling [hz] \defineadjustfactor A .5 \defineadjustfactor B .7 \defineadjustfactor C .7 ... \stopfonthandling In any case, I'm happy that hz works for Arabic/Farsi despite some warnings suggesting the contrary ( https://mailman.ntg.nl/pipermail/ntg-context/2008/029765.html) It does make certain Farsi texts look better, however, support for tatweel/kashida would be ideal. In fact, I was trying to see if I could somehow get it to work, building on top of hz. Hans, do you have any suggestions for this? Would this be feasible and/or worth trying? I once converted Vafa Khalighi's XeTeX-based code to Lua but ran into several setbacks. (The idea is to insert a sequence of (ZWJ,\nobreak,stretchable leader,\nobreak,ZWJ) between certain character pairs that join one another.) Here are some of the issues I faced: 1) This could not be turned off and on within a paragraph because I was hooking into processors.before action. 2) The mechanism for some (all?) center alignments (including default figure captions) interferes with what I was hacking (or, to be more precise, it's the other way around) and causes unnecessary use of tatweel in those settings. 3) Later I noticed that the added sequence did not inherit many properties (like font style or color). 4) The optimum values for the stretches I put in depend on the context, particularly because some environments manipulate \spaceskip for other reasons. Sorry for the mumbling. I can explain more if anyone is interested in helping to improve this functionality. Attached is what I have now. Thanks, MHB

RTL bug in textbackground

Hello, When using \definetextbackground in RTL setting, the boundaries are not determined correctly (both for location=paragraph and location=text) and colors gets messed up. Here a sort-of-minimal example adapted from details.pdf. In the actual text I'm not using the `dum` library, I'm including actual graphics. So I don't believe that's the issue. It might have something to do with word breaking, that's my gut feeling. Dear all, and in particular Mojca Miklavec and Jean-Pierre Delange, who reacted to my first call for help, I think I have solved my problem. Somehow I managed to get Lilypond working from Terminal. Then I placed the ConTeXt-example with the LilyPond filter that I tried to compile in the same directory als the lilypond binary. Compiling it, as usual, from TeXShop it still did not start LilyPond and the .pdf still had: "[[output file missing" where the musical example should have been. ConTeXt and LilyPond problem

Dear All, I am trying to get the combination of ConTeXt and LilyPond working. I copied the example that I found on http://wiki.contextgarden.net/LilyPond , changing the setups a little (I don't have the font Adobe Jenson Pro). Processing it with mkiv from april this year and earlier produces a pdf with both zapf texts and in between the text: [[output file missing. The log-file says: --------------------- t-filter . cached output file 'lilytemp/LilyPond-ConTeXt-example-27-06-16-templilypond-0.pdf' missing. Rerunning filter sh: lilypond: command not found t-filter > file 'lilytemp/LilyPond-ConTeXt-example-27-06-16-templilypond-0.pdf' cannot be found --------------------- Indeed there is no file lilytemp/LilyPond-ConTeXt-example-27-06-16-templilypond-0.pdf . With LilyPond.app itself, using TeXShop as the editor, I have no problems. (But I have never been able to get it working from Terminal, generating only messages like "cannot execute binary file" and "Permission denied" even after running sudo chmod u+x .) issue with French patterns

A question about a symbol in an text

I have this one: \starttext Das Coverbild Untitled U+00023 9 ist eine Grafik aus der Serie Plastic Bodies der_des audiovisuellem Künstlerin bertkovski. \stoptext The problem is, that i wanted to use the symbol #. But when i wrote it in the text as i need it, after compiling, i got a message, that i am not allowed (You cantt use macro paramenter character # in horinzontal mode) to use it as i wanted. Can sombebody help me please? As you can see above, i tried to use the unicode. But there is something wrong. Uschi

ConTeXt and LilyPond, another question

Dear all, Inserting LilyPond scores or snippets into a ConTeXt file gives very nice results, better than inserting LilyPond pdf's as floats. So far however, using floats has the advantage that they can be given a caption, that ConTeXt gives them a number, that one gets a list of floats in the ToC, that they can be indexed etc. etc., things that, as far as I can see, are missing when entering LilyPond code directly into the TeX-file and use the filter. Does any of you know how this handicap can be overcome? Or else, would it be possible either to add these facilities to the filter or create some other means for providing the LilyPond examples with a caption and a number? Best regards, Robert Blackstone

smallcaps

I do not understand the behaviour of the \sc macro. I thought smallcaps would turn out to be smaller than capitals. But I see no difference between them except a subtle difference in letterspacing. Am I doing something wrong here? Equivalent in ConTeXt mkiv for LaTeX's picture environment?

The headline says it: As a convert from LaTeX I'm looking for the functionality of LaTeX's picture environment, i.e. the placing of boxes et al. according to absolute coordinates, possibly with calculating measurements and coordinates on the go, like the stuff provided by the picture package on LaTeX. four printing options (again)

Hans, we have talked about this feature improvement before. You told me to report again in a month, since TeX Live 2016 was first. The four printing options would be: duplex page portrait landscape (implemented in the "option" key) fixed (no value is required) copies an number pdfsize yes no The option copies would implement /NumCopies and pdfsize would implement /PickTrayByPDFSize, both from the /ViewerPreferences dictionary (as explained in https://wwwimages2.adobe.com/content/dam/Adobe/en/devnet/pdf/pdfs/PDF32000_…) It would be great to have a \setupprinting command for these four options. Strang behaviour of apostrophe in math environments

Hello together, the code is simple: \setupbodyfont[iwona,10pt] % also tried with antykwa \starttext $ y^' = y' $ % notice that I also used a Circumflex on the left side of the eq; same below \startformula y^' = y' \stopformula \stoptext When I compile the code above, the apostrophe on the left side of the equation isn’t showing up when iwona or antykwa bodyfonts are used; it only works when using regular or sans bodyfonts. Is this behavior expected? I am wondering because when you zoom in with regular or sans bodyfont, there is a difference in vertical spacing between Apostrophe with and without Circumflex. Expansion of date inside \section

If I only add one of these, the symbols in the text/notes at the bottom of the page, get changed, but if I add both, only the font of the symbols in the text get changed (In front of the first footnote-symbol (the 1) there is also some whitespace added, which looks like a bug or something; or I used the commands in a wrong way). Hi again, in my current songbook project I use t-filter with LilyPond as shown in http://wiki.contextgarden.net/LilyPond with latest beta MkIV on OSX. Every line (system) of notes is included as its own PDF to leave the page breaking to ConTeXt. But since I have some hundred songs with each a few lines, it sums up... enumeration header spacing control

The inbetween={\blank[nowhite]} setting seems to be ignored. I noticed this change of behaviour some weeks ago for the first time. Flushleft formula

Hi, Something has changed with respect to the align=flushleft option for formulas. Earlier (tested with 2016.05.08), align=flushleft did not remove the leftskip, but now it does. Orphans and widows for specific paragraph groups

I have a couple of questions about preventing orphans for specific document blocks. These all relate to a web-based report card application I have written for a study abroad school client of mine. The ConTeXt file is being generated and processed out of a PHP Laravel framework app. I have stripped away most of the details as well as the application fonts, but the issue that I am facing is related to keeping the course header (done as a paragraph environment), \hairline, and the teacher's comment for that course together as a unit. At a minimum, I would like the three elements as a grouped and pushed to the following page. Ideally, and this is more for my own learning, I'd like to be able to have finer control---say the header, \hairline, and a set number of comment lines would be acceptable at the bottom of a page. Ah, we were thinking along the same lines! ;) I had just initiated a local install inside .../www/public when I received your email, which is in fact the DocumentRoot for this website, and did: $ chmod -R www-data:www-data context So ConTeXt is installed in .../www/public/context. Latin setupmathematics

In order to align with Unicode, \setupmathematics might have Latin shape options, as the Greek ‘lcgreek’ and ‘ucgreek', say ‘lclatin' and ‘uclatin', both defaulting to ’italic’. Unicode added the Latin italic symbols to the Math Alphanumeric Symbols range, so the upright letters are inaccessible when italic is assigned to the Basic Latin (ASCII) range.

defining new entries for reference in letter module

Hi! I am trying to create a custom reference line with the letter module. I would like for instance to display the typical phone and email fields and additionaly eg a not yet existing field such as mobile={12345} (or foo={bar}) At first I did not manage to have any field displayed at all but the use of setupletterlayer as described in https://mailman.ntg.nl/pipermail/ntg-context/2013/073560.html helped (seems the manual from 2010 is no longer up to date...). Unfortunately this writes the reference line with labels only for phone an email but not for mobile nor foo, The value of the parameter is writen though, so it seems I am half the way. When I use \cite[Author:2016], the (Author, 2016) in the output is hyperlinked to the reference. But when I use \cite[Author1:2016,Author2:2015], the resulting (Author1, 2016 and Author2, 2015) is not hyperlinked. Is it possible to get hyperlinks in the latter case, too? Nicola

Hello list, is there a way to modify the space between equations in mathalignment? Something like \TB in tabulate would be great. In tabulate, \TB[-3mm] i.e. lets you shrink the vertical space between two rows. Aditya spoke about that here: http://www.mail-archive.com/ntg-context%40ntg.nl/msg34316.html and the answer seems to be "no". Simple font size changes command

Dear all, In a simple document using only 1 font but with different sizes what are the easiest switch commands to change font size locally ? I am aware of \tfa, \tfx etc …. but they do not seem to size in absolute size but rather relatively to current font size. In the following MWE : \starttext {\tfd Foo {\tfx Bar1}} {\tfx Bar2} Baz. \stoptext Bar1 is typeset much larger than Bar2. I’d look to write something like but don’t know who to get \BigSize and \SmallSize defined (and have Bar1 and Bar2 of same size) : {\BigSize Foo {\SmallSize Bar1}} {\SmallSize Bar2} Baz. Specifying font style variant with \definefontfamily

I'm still a bit at a loss on how one goes about correctly specifying the variants in \definefontfamily using the default form given in the wiki. Usually adding "* Light", etc. is sufficient (see commented line using Junction font). (As an aside, is it also possible to combine \sc\bf? I haven't been able to figure that out). My application is using the (free) Andada font family, and I need to point the smallcaps style to the correct font (https://www.fontsquirrel.com/fonts/andada) In the following MWE I tried the following without success: 1. Wrong ToUnicode table for ZapfDingbats font

Hi, Consider the following MWE, that displays a ZapfDingbats check mark: \definefontsynonym[ZapfDingbats][file:ZapfDingbats][features=dingbats] \definefont[zapfdingbats][ZapfDingbats] \starttext \getnamedglyphdirect{ZapfDingbats*dingbats}{a19} \stoptext In earlier versions, e.g., 2016.03.13, the font in the PDF contains a correct ToUnicode table with: ... 1 beginbfchar <0013> <2713> endbfchar ... In the currently newest version, 2016.06.08, the ToUnicode table lacks the entry for the check mark: ... 0 beginbfchar endbfchar ... Hence, the check mark cannot be copy pasted from the PDF. I fear this may be a bug. Or am I missing something? Any feedback is welcome. Christoph

(not to be confused with 'coloring text in a font'). \definefontfeature[svg] [default][svg=yes] \definefontfeature[colored][default][colr=yes] % \definefont[Emoj][file:emojionecolor-svginot.ttf*default,svg] % \definefont[Emoj][file:seguiemj.ttf*default,colored] \definesymbol[bug1][\getglyphdirect{file:emojionecolor-svginot.ttf*svg}{\char"1F41B}] \definesymbol[bug2][\getglyphdirect{file:seguiemj.ttf*colored} {\char"1F41B}] \startTEXpage [width=10em,align=middle,offset=1em] There are several kind of bugs, like \symbol [bug1] and \symbol [bug2], also in \CONTEXT ! \stopTEXpage The colr features uses (if present) the overlay method (microsoft fonts have that) which is quite clean and efficient, while the svg one uses (when present) svg information from the font. Caching the later one will take some initial time (due to conversion, i might figure out something better) and needs inkscape installed. Attached an example. I didn't look too extensively for a font, but on the agenda is turning the cowfont in a color one (maybe for the ctx meeting). At some point I might add overloading of colors (for the overlay variant). Redirect compilation to another .pdf?

Hello, is there a way to tell ConTeXt to generate a .pdf named otherwise instead of the name derived from file to be compiled? Let's have A.tex to be compiled and an existing A.pdf which cannot be written into, e.g. due to being open by a viewer. The "context.exe A.tex" fails as the A.pdf cannot be open for writing. The "context.exe A.tex --result=A2.pdf" fails too, as Ctx tries to write into A.pdf (derived from A.tex) first and later tries to rename A.pdf to A2.pdf. There is a way - "copy /y A.tex A2.tex & context.exe A2.tex" but it has some disadvantages - the .log, .tuc etc. will be named A2.log, A2.tuc etc., messages will refer to "A2" rather than to "A" etc. So best seems to me to have an option to tell ConTeXt to produce a .PDF WITH A DESIRED NAME from the beginning... Hi all (especially Wolfgang), I have two questions about the font selection mechanism. 1. Three weeks ago you replied to a question from Pablo Rodriguez and wrote (https://mailman.ntg.nl/pipermail/ntg-context/2016/085508.html) "You have to use scale instead of rscale for the \definefontfamily and \definefallbackfamily commands for the moment but I will change it to rscale." In the meantime, you have changed this keyword. I have lots of styles that use "scale." Would it be very inconvenient to leave "scale" as a legacy synonym / alternative to rscale? That would be my feature request... 2. The following example: \definefallbackfamily [Test] [serif] [GentiumAlt] [range={greekandcoptic,greekextended},force=yes,rscale=3] \definefontfamily [Test] [serif] [TeX Gyre Termes] \setupbodyfont [Test,10pt] \starttext Test Μῆνιν ἄειδε \stoptext does not produce any output. Hello together, I am fighting with creating a table from a CSV file. I found the "MyWay" doc by Mojca. But the doc is 10 years old and for example the command \defineseperatedlist gives me an error: unkown command. Is there a newer doc that I missed somewhere? I have a CSV file with values seperated by tabs. What code should I use to let CTX read the values and print them in the document? Let's say the values are 11 tab 12 tab 13 21 tab 22 tab 23 31 tab 32 tab 33 and the file is called values.csv Greetings, Seba

It is possible to get the symbol : COLON U+003A to expand to \colon, instead of the ratio operator, as it is now? LuaTeX finds font, mtxrun --fonts does not list it?

I'm trying to add a ttf font (Futura) so I can use it in ConTeXt. I've ran mtxrun --script fonts --list --all |less looked at a ttf font that was there, copied my Futura ttfs to the same directory it was in, and ran mtxrun --script fonts --reload --force But I still can't find it in mtxrun --script fonts --list --all |less nor can I use it in ConTeXt. (The filenames don't have spaces.) The curious thing is that the luatex cache has it. It's listed in /home/sandra/.texmf-var/luatex-cache/generic/names/luaotfload-names.luc under various names, all starting with "futuralt". Curiously, /home/sandra/.texmf-var/luatex-cache/context/[number]/fonts/otf/futuralt-book.tm[ac] exist. But the only "book-" related name in luaotfload-names.luc is futuraltbook, not futuralt-book. Neither worked in ConTeXt, though. How do I move forward with this, how do I add ttfs so that ConTeXt understand them? Sandra

Avoiding \startformulas starting new paragraph

In the example below, \startformulas starts a new paragraph with indenting, whereas \startformula does not. Is there any way to avoid that? \setupbodyfont[xits,10pt] \setupindenting[yes, medium, next] \starttext Some text. Set default background color or pattern for tables

I'd like to set a default background color for all the tables in my document. This is what I have tried (using the latest beta): \setuptables[background=color,backgroundcolor=red] \starttext \starttable[|cm|] \HL \NC \bf R \NC \AR \NC A \NC \AR \HL \NC \bot \NC \AR \NC 1 \NC \AR \stoptable \stoptext No red background, though. Incorrect math kerning

Hi, This is based on a question about latex on tex.stackexchange: http://tex.stackexchange.com/q/312098/323 but context shows the same behaviour. The subscript "i" in the following example is kerned incorrectly (it is too far away from W). How to start the demo in modules

Hi, MKII uses \doifnotmode{demo}{\endinput} to enter the demo mode in modules. I see that MKIV now switched to \continueifinputfile{s-something.mkiv} The question arises: What should I suggest to a module writer for a relatively simple file that doesn't use any MKIV features and provides just the module file t-something.tex? Is it OK to keep using "\doifnotmode{demo}{\endinput}" also in MKIV? Thank you, Mojca

I would like share a document written using ConTeXt that employes different fonts, but the recipients have no possibilities to install those fonts in their computers. It is possible use fonts that are in the same directory that the .tex document? Allow for hyphenation in 'firstline' ConTeXt feature ?

Dear all, I use the nifty ‘firstline’ feature ConTeXt offers (using a larger font size, line mode, 1 line only) and I notice that the last word of the first line is never hyphenated even if doing so could reduce underful in the first line. From typo-fln.lua it looks like that’s expected as the decision to break the first line happens only at nodes which are not glyphs, disc_nodes or kern nodes. There is a comment saying it could be added some option to handle disc nodes. I’d be happy to add such option but do not have enough knowledge in nodes manipulation in luatex, especially those related to hyphenation. Would it be very difficult to add such option please ? Dear all, I’m finishing a book, and getting the following undesired result. Many times I have section or subsection title at the bottom of a page, with no text. Text starts on the next page. I have looked at http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Widows_and_orphans_control but I wasn’t able to solve. I guess it could depend on the formatting of my headlines. extended printing options in ConTeXt

Hans, would it be possible to implement two extended printing options defined in the PDF specification? You have kindly implemented duplex printing and page scaling options. At my workplace, we are it on a daily basis for mail merging (I had to make an “extension” to distinguish between duplex printing and page scaling [it isn’t an option for me]). In the present implementation, page, portrait and landscape values sets page scaling to none. In most of the documents we generate, we have to fit page contents to printer margins. It is a must for us, since corporate templates are the way they are (wrong designed). Would it be possible to have the PDF printing options in different keys than the one used for the the viewing options? It would be also extremely useful to be able to specify the number of copies and select page size from PDF document. These are the keys /NumCopies and /PickTrayByPDFSize (described on page 365 from the PDF specification). The keys and their values would be: duplex page portrait landscape (only a duplex key required) fixed (no value is required) copies number pdfsize yes no This way, the user has only to press the OK button in the printing dialog or enter (and forget about selecting which kind of document requires which options). I’m asking this for my own needs (it is essential for us at work, where none knows what ConTeXt might be). But this implementation benefits any ConTeXt user. Buffered metapost function freezes random numbers

Underbar offset

Hi, I would like to add a continuous underbar under a paragraph or a title as in: \setupbar [color=red,offset=10pt] \starttext \underbar{Test this \high{\tfxx ®}} \stoptext ... but I'm confused about two aspects: - How can I prevent \high{} from shifting the underbar? - How can I add more offset? The color keyword works, but offset doesn't seem to have any effect even though it's listed in the reference. I was able to address the second problem (adding more offset) with something like \definebar[BarU][offset=-0.7] \startbar[BarU] ... \stopbar but I wasn't able to get rid of the shift (and the bar had a different thickness when a smaller font was used). I can find ugly workarounds with frames, but it would be ideal if I could get one of the underbar mechanisms to work "out-of-the-box". Thank you, Mojca

Can someone explain to me the changes in fontsize in the following example? smaller size for particular style

As usual I do a setup for the font with for example: \setupbodyfont[cambria]. For most style variants this is fine, but for \tt I find the size too big. Thus I would like to keep the sizes as setup by the \setupbodyfont for everything except for \tt: there all variants (like \tt, \ttx, \ttxx) should have the size as if the bodyfont had been setup with \setupbodyfont[cambria,small]. Support for Optional Content Groups

I am new to ConTeXt (coming from LaTeX), and am really impressed. Great work! I am working on a document that has layers that I want to be screen-only, similar in approach to this: http://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/167846/implementing-full-page-screen… I am assuming that Optional Content Groups would be the best way to do this. How would I set something up like this in ConTeXt/LuaTeX? I know I could make a screen-only version and a print version of the output pdf, but I want to have my cake and eat it too ;) Thanks in advance, Chris Chapman
