Designing text floats

I’m trying to get some info box on my page that - has a defined width - sits in the margin but protrudes into the text area - while the body text runs around it Additionally the caption (title) should sit on (in front of) the background color. xtable setup

Hi again, I’m trying xtables with the natural tables emulation (\usemodule[ntb-to-xtb]). While it works generally, I found no way to influence the lines (e.g. frame=off) or settings like \setupTABLE[c][1,2,3][align=flushright] \setupTABLE[r][first,last][style=bold] Is this supposed to work? And is there some option to influence the spacing around tables (TABLE or xtable)? E.g. before={\blank[big]} doesn’t seem to do anything. Cambria typescript and Math problem

Ahoi, I’m trying to use Microsoft’s Cambria fonts (latest beta, MkIV). The typescripts in type-imp-cambria.mkiv address the Regular and Math faces from cambria.ttc, that works. But the other faces are only addressed by name, and ConTeXt can’t find them even if I put the font files into the working directory, tried refreshing the font database several times. adding fill-in fields to an existing PDF

Dear list, I have to add some fill-in fields (mainly digital signatures) to existing PDF documents which contain other fill-in fields. I found a PDF sample at http://www.thewebjockeys.com/TheWebJockeys/Fillable_PDF_Sample_from_TheWebJ…. two suggestions for \setuphead

Hans, here is my minimal sample: \showframe \starttext \setuphead[section][alternative=margin] \section{This is a title} \stoptext After having to adapt a special page design for a friend, I realized that reverse would be an even greater value for the alternative option in \setuphead when it could be combined with margin, inmargin and margintext. This may be reached with a special command, but avoiding a extra hack would be very helpful for newbies. Another issue with margin numbering is alignment: \showframe \starttext \setuphead[section][alternative=margin, align=center] \section{This is a title} \stoptext Would it be possible in this case to set both numberalign and textalign? (If no margin or inmargin alternative is selected and both numberalign and textalign are specified, textalign should have preference) I think those two suggestions would provide extra features for headings. Pretty printer

Hello, I'd like to write my own pretty-printer (it should just highlight words/members of a set-of-keywords with a color), preferably as a Lua handler. Following wiki: http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Verbatim_text I searched for verb*.* or pret*.* in the Ctx distribution (on my local inst dir). However, I found only some MkII related files, whilst I'm interested in MkIV pretty printers ('pret-lua.*' for example). Where to find a pretty printer source/module (for inspiration)? Using MTPro2 math Fonts with ConTeXt

Hello, List. I am using the MTPro2 complete fonts (provided by the publisher house) for typesetting some math books in LaTeX this year. I also want to use ConTeXt to typeset other math books, those that don't come originally in LaTeX. However, the publisher requires that I use the MTPro2 fonts for math, and I've tried using the clues presentend in https://mailman.ntg.nl/ pipermail/ntg-context/2013/075938.html to install, but with no avail. Fonts were placed in "context/tex/texmf-local", preserving folder structure; "mtxrun --generate && mtxrun --script fonts --reload" was called after. When that didn't work, tried placing the type1 and tfm folders in my fonts folder (that is called by OSFONTDIR), and again, reload the fonts, but they just don't figure in the list provided by "mtxrun --script fonts --list --all --name --pattern=*". I have not found a way of using this font in ConTeXt, and I really need it (or will be just LaTeX for now). Thanks in advance. Thank you for your tips. I'm using Linux. } However, as I researched the matter, it seems to me is not a trivial task... these fonts were made with LaTeX/Plain TeX in mind. I don't even know how I would implement the font options (like mtpfrak, mtpcal, etc). The font comes with two versions: Type1 and TFM (no afm). I converted from Type1 to AFM using fontforge, and the fonts script detects the files.... but I have no idea how to use them. It seems it doesn't detect the fonts as part of a family... I don't even know where I could start to make this work. Maybe I will stick to LaTeX for the time being. Thank you for your time. Manually scaling math fences

Hi, with the latest standalone, the file below runs, but gives strange results. Look at the interline space in the last paragraph (starting with "But a system...") of the document. It is too big. Resulting pdf is attached. What am I doing wrong? So how to access other extensions Ctx is to manage? - I guess that 'lpdf.epdf.load(figure_file)' is just a .pdf loader - how to load other pics (like .png, .jpg, .svg...)? about the location of the table in the columns

After compiling the code below, the first one(negation part) is appeared right, but the second one(biconditional part) is not the center of the second column. sorting languages

Hans, in the ouput at http://www.ousia.tk/grc-order.pdf, you can see that the vocabulary list, in both Spanish and ancient Greek are wrong sorted. After that, I discovered sort-lan.lua. There must be something else interferring in the sorting, because I read this list in the linked document: κατὰ, ἐκλαλεῖσθαι, κοινώσεσθαι, κρίσιν, κρίσιν, ἐκτὸς, ἐκχωρήσω, ἐλευθέρων, λιθιῶντας (it isn’t following the order in sort-lan.lua). I have two improvements. One is for the Spanish sort order. Accents don’t change sorting order: orders = { "a", "b", "c", "d", "e", "f", "g", "h", "i", "j", "k", "l", "m", "n", "ñ", "o", "p", "q", "r", "s", "t", "u", "v", "w", "x", "y", "z", } Diacritics don‘t affect to Greek alphabetic sorting. This sort order makes more sense: orders = { "α", "β", "γ", "δ", "ε", "ζ", "η", "θ", "ι", "κ", "λ", "μ", "ν", "ξ", "ο", "π", "ρ", "σ", "σ", "τ", "υ", "φ", "χ", "ψ", "ω", }, Could those be added to ConTeXt? Hi, The beta has some new font trickery: support for variable fonts. This is still experimental but around the context meeting i expect the user interface etc to be stable. There is a bit of magic involved in the transformations along design axis because not only shapes change but also positional features get influenced (e.g kerning). Variable fonts are defined in the opentype 1.8 standard but there isnot much more known about them. There are a few example fonts already out there. The only reasonable ones i could find were Avenir Next Variable and Adobe Variable Font Prototype (which is a rip off of some other font). I have no clue how well these fonts are because I guess that getting all the features right is not that trivial (so it's hard to decide if something weird is due to the font or to context but we'll get there eventually). Using these fonts should be transparent in the sense that it should just work. As the shapes are transformed along axis the pdf has to get the right stuff and currently there are two methods: inline shapes (it's how i explored things) and native. For native one needs a version of luatex with a trivial extension (most works happens in the font loader) and that version (1.05) will be released on the garden after the tl code freeze (tl will have 1.04). One can force inline shapes but it will be done automatically when one runs a luatex that lacks the small extension needed. Anyway, it provides users a way to play a bit with this new technology so that we can come up with a (maybe more extensive) user interface in context. closesymbol on same line as displayed formula

Hi, I'm bringing up an old question on placing the qedsymbol, or closesymbol as it is also called. This was previously discussed in https://mailman.ntg.nl/pipermail/ntg-context/2014/079807.html and the purpose of this post is to ask if there is any solution to the problem now. Looking at the file below (output is attached), when the proof ends with a displayed formula, the closesymbol is located one row down. I want it to be (flushright) on the same line as the displayed formula. If I use \placeclosesymbol the closesymbol is indeed put on the correct line, but not flushright. Any ideas? I guess this might be a typo somewhere in the code. But I would like to know the actual values of rightedge and rightedgedistance. I assume I’m missing something. But if the right margin shows its outer edge, there should be a measure that shows the distance between the right margin edge and the right paper rim. Or shouldn’t it be? Hello ConTeXtist, I saw the opportunity to insert an Asymptote picture into Context source code (due filter). For example here: https://mailman.ntg.nl/pipermail/ntg-context/2015/080581.html Is there a way to pass the ConTeXt parameter which influenced the creation of the Asymptote image? My point eg. the ability to define macros, which gave its parameters to Asymptote procedure or function and depending on these parameters, the image created by Asymptote looked differently. Before starting work on an illustrative example I am asking, whether it makes sense to deal with such a thing ... I suppose the impossibility of combining asymptote code and such Lua code (or not?). There is a similar possibility, at least in Metapost? For simpler pictures it would probably suffice .... Thanx Jaroslav Hajtmar

Hi, I would like to print in a text the values of a array computed in a \startluacode …. \stopluacode combination. How can I do it properly? Please have a look at the example below and its output, which is not satisfactory because the right parenthesis is separated from the number by a space. How can I suppress this unwanted space? For instance I get (1, 103 ) instead of (1, 103). The requested font has no files for the 'tf' alternative

Hi! I run into a problem using some fonts. Latin Modern is used instead and ConTeXt displays: selectfont > The requested font 'Caecilia LT Std Roman' has no files for the 'tf' alternative, Latin Modern is used instead. Dear all, I made a column as following: … \starttabulate[|c|c] \HL \NC $\sim (p \vee q)$ \VL $\sim p \ \wedge \sim q$ \NC\NR \HL \NC $\sim (p \ \wedge q)$ \VL $\sim p \vee \sim q$ \NC\NR \HL \NC $\sim (p \to q) $ \VL $p \wedge \sim q$ \NC\NR \HL \NC $\sim (p \leftrightarrow q)$ \VL $(p \ \wedge \sim q) \vee (q \ \wedge \sim p)$ \NC\NR \HL \stoptabulate … The first column is OK. But lines in the first three rows in the second column expanded to the width as wide as the last row. So the it looked very strange. Is there a way to avoid such a bad looking output? hello, i try to understand the difference of everybeforeoutput and everafteroutput to inject some pages. it seems as there is no difference. \the\everybeforeoutput is placed after the output of the page: \newtoks\Before \appendtoks \the\Before \global\Before\emptytoks \to\everybeforeoutput \newtoks\After \appendtoks \the\After \global\After\emptytoks \to\everyafteroutput \starttext \input{knuth}\par \appendtoks{before}\to\Before \appendtoks{after}\to\After \stoptext this code in page-otr.mkvi seems to put it before the content: \def\page_otf_set_engine_output_routine#content% {\global\output {\inotrtrue \the\everybeforeoutput #content\relax \the\everyafteroutput}} can this be fixed? thanks michael

Dear list, I have a question for users with more knowledge on digitally-signed PDF documents. Is it possible to concatenate PDF documents (each signed by a different certificate [by a different person]) into a single PDF document without invalidating any signature? I tried to join all PDF files with pdftk, but digital signatures in the resulting file were invalid. I guess that I’m trying something impossible, but I’ll really appreciate the confirmation from somebody with experience in digital-signed PDF documents. Feature Request: xtables extensions

Dear devs, Natural Tables are quite handy but their syntax is a little verbose. \bTABLE \bTR \bTD ... \eTD \eTR \eTABLE There exist nice extensions which make the format less verbose by mapping \startTABLE \NC ... \NR\NR \stopTABLE back to the original macros. The new method for tables, called xtables, is faster and seems to have less problems than Natural Tables. However, the syntax is even more verbose \startxtable \startxrow \startxcell ... \stopxcell \stopxrow \stopxtable Can we have similar abbreviations as for Natural Tables? I am thinking of something like \startXTABLE \NC ... \NR\NR \stopXTABLE I tried myself rewriting tabl-nte.mkiv for xtables but it is not straightforward. What do you think of this proposal? You can see from your log that context --pdftext is running the MKII macros and context is running MKIV macros. The two systems are very different, MKII being "frozen" and MKIV having evolved in some ways significantly. It is not a question of TeX engines, but rather of entire systems. Well, I would be very interested in having texlive binaries for OpenBSD. It would help me to get a fine tune install and, I hope, to have biber available, which is not the case nowadays (I have to ssh linux to compile my bibliographies). I didn't complain since I do not know how to package and build anything at all. Mojca kindly tried to compile it last May on my -stable installation after last bachotex, but it failed. xml in lua: how to say "ancestor"?

Hi all, no real example, just snippets, sorry: I need to process xml documents in lua (because I want to collect information in tables). The structure is a bit irregular: <document> <chapter title="One"> <section title="One"> <subsection title="One"> Text </subsection> </section> </chapter> <chapter title="Two"> <subsection title="One"> Text </subsection> </chapter> </document> So chapters may or may not have sections. If, on the level of my subscetions, I want to extract the information of the chapter title, in a ConTeXt environment, I could say \xmlattribute{#1}{ancestor::chapter}{title}. How could I do the same in lua? I have something like xml.attribute(e, "../../chapter", "title", "") but that only works for the first case, not the second one. Hi all, since yesterday, the installation of the minimals on linux armhf doesn't work anymore. On a fresh system, after "sh ./first-setup.sh" I get: receiving incremental file list bin/ bin/luatex bin/mtx-update.lua bin/mtxrun bin/texlua -> luatex sent 92 bytes received 8,631,278 bytes 1,150,849.33 bytes/sec total size is 8,628,902 speedup is 1.00 ./bin/mtxrun:2763: attempt to index global 'fio' (a nil value) When you want to use context, you need to initialize the tree by typing: . /usr/local/context/tex/setuptex in your shell or add "/usr/local/context/tex/texmf-linux-armhf/bin" to PATH variable if you want to set it permanently. This can usually be done in .bashrc, .bash_profile (or whatever file is used to initialize your shell). I suspect, the new mtxrun binary doesn't match the rather old luatex (1.0.0) Greetings Lutz P.S. I could provide luatex and luajittext binaries for armhf (experimental or trunk)

Context install from Texlive2016 mtxrun problem

Hello, After several years away from Context, I would like to start using it again and encounter the following problem: I am on a Fedora 25 system, 64bit machine and installed context from the rpm repositories via dnf. The repositories contain a Texlive 2016 version. I installed "texlive" and "texlive-context" from those repositories, and context works out of the box. The problem is with mtxrun: it seems unable to find the scripts. The scripts are installed in /usr/share/texlive/texmf-dist/scripts/context/lua When I invoke "mtxrun --script" from any place, I get a "no script name given" without the expected list of available scripts wheni I invoke the same from the scripts directory, I get the list of available scripts as expected. When I invoke "mtxrun --script fonts --list --all" from any directory, I get "unknown script 'font.lua' or mtx-font.lua' the same comand from the directory where the scripts are located gives "mtx-fonts.lua:135: attempt to index global 'fonts' (a nil value)" Is this supposed to work out of the box, or do I still have to manually configure some details as in older texlive versions ? (could not find anything in the context wiki or maillist that helps me to solve this problem) Geert

Hello, I have been switching to conTEXt to prepare some of my teaching stuff. I have read the context ref manual, the wiki and browsed the web, but couldn't find anything related to so-called overlays in beamer (I justed greped mail archives for 2015–2017). What would be the conTEXt way to have a list or whatever else displayed in a slide in such a way that point 2 is hidden until you press space, and so on. In beamer, you would make it this way \begin{frame} \begin{itemize} \item 1 \pause \item 2 \pause \item 3 \end{frame} Or even better, \begin{frame} \begin{itemize}[<+->] \item 1 \item 2 \item 3 \end{frame} I read about \starthiding and \stophiding in the manual, but as far as I understand, this is not exactly what I am looking for. I don't think postponing would help either. Any suggestion will be welcome. I am using texlive 2015 version (nothing newer is available yet in OpenBSD). Have a nice day, Damien Thiriet

issue with linenotes and columns

Dear list, I have the following sample: http://www.ousia.tk/hippocratic-oath.tex After the fix from last beta, I’m afraid I’m still experiencing wrong column breaks, as displayed in http://www.ousia.tk/hippocratic-oath.pdf. Page 1: last line from first column should move to second column. Page 2: totally unbalanced columns. Page 3: first line from second column should be moved to first column. Page 4: I wonder why there is so much spaceinbetween notes (more than a line, as far as I can tell) and no spacebefore. For all pages: if setups are exactly the same, why does the first group of linenotes (dict) have a bigger interlinespace than the second group? issue with linenotes and luatex-1.0.3

Dear list, I have a text with two kinds of linenotes (http://www.ousia.tk/hefes.tex) If I compile with latest beta (2017.02.23 18:37), I get wrong separation from body in many pages (http://www.ousia.tk/hefes.pdf) Only page 5 might be be right in this point. But if I use beta from 2017.01.27 14:39 (which comes with luatex-1.0.0 [at least in Linux 32bit]), linenote separation from body is much better (http://www.ousia.tk/hefes-nospacebefore.pdf) The spacebefore option from \setupnotes was intended to improve the situation. floats on pages without headers

I have some large floats that look best on empty pages, i.e., pages that do not have headers? decomposed and precomposde glyphs

When using input like the following with xetex then harfbuzz kicks in and one would always get the good looking precomposed U+1EA0 for the A and the decomposed B+U+0323 for the B. With context (and lualatex) one get a rather bad looking -- as the dot is misplaced -- output for the A^^^^0323 input and no output at all for ^^^^1e04. As the coverage for precomposed glyphs varies a lot across fonts this is rather a nuisance. controlling title head distances when grid is enabled

Dear context users: I would like to typeset my documents to gridlines. If grid is enabled, the distances between titles (section, subsection,subsubsection heads) and text are too big. Here's an example: \setuplayout[grid=yes] \showgrid \starttext \section{Section One} \input tufte \subsection{Subsection One} \input ward \subsubsection{Subsubsection One} \input tufte \section{Section Two} \subsection{Subsection Two} \input davis \subsection{Subsection Three} \input dawkins \stoptext In the output there are 3 empty lines before and 2 after Subsection One. It would be enough 2 and 1 lines, respectively. On page 2, between Section Two and Subsection Two heads 4 empty lines are inserted, which is to much (ugly). How can I control the empty space before and after heads when grid is enabled? I tried this: \setuphead[section][before=\vskip-2.8ex,after=\vskip-2.8ex] but it removes all spaces not only 1 line. I also tried \setuphead[section][before={\blank[2*line]},after={\blank[line]}] but it doesn't have any effect. Thank you in advance, bcsikos

Question: --------- Where can I find up-to-date documentation on the load setup interface file use and required format? Background: ---------- I have a current standalone ConTeXt installation with only luatex(mkiv) and all modules (updated yesterday). I intend to write a number of ConTeXt modules to assist in my work. My first module is ConTests a simple wrapper around lua's lunatest framework. ( GitHub: stephengaito/ConTests ) As I work I like to write unit-tests and documentation concurrently with the code itself (as much as possible). I am basing my documentation effort on t-fancybreak.mkvi. As such I have written a setup interface file t-contests.xml. My directory structure is: t-contests/tex/context/interface/third/t-contests.xml t-contests/tex/context/third/ConTests/t-contests.mkiv t-contests/tex/context/third/ConTests/t-contests.lua I am building my module documentation using: mtxrun --script modules --process t-contexts.mkiv (inside the t-contests/tex/context/third/ConTests directory). The resluting t-contests-mkiv.pdf file has 'MISSING SETUP' where I would expect the \showsetup{loadSuite} output to be placed. In the INBOOK example, can we get a BOOKSUBTITLE field to complement the BOOKTITLE? My real bibliography has some very long titles, and I would rather have only the main part appear with \cite[booktitle][entry], yet have the title with subtitle in the bibliography. Also in the INBOOK example, I notice that the spacing after “Vol.” is a sentence space, and it should not be. The spacing after abbreviations in the bibliography should not depend on setting frenchspacing. -- Rik

Dear context users: I am experimenting with descriptions and I couldn't find in the documentation the following: 1. What is the default value of width option? It seems that default width uses the longest head + some distance for every head in a descriptions list. Neither width=fit nor width=broad,distance=dimension results in the same. 2. In the same document how can I reset to the default options of a defined description list? For example: \definedescription[defa] \defa{head} .... % deafult options are used \setupdescription[defa][width=broad,distance=1cm] \defa{head} .... % above options are used Now I would like to use again the default options, how can I? تأليف الأربعين ليس عليه، بل على أحاديث أخرى، مثل قوله : (( ليبلِّغ الشاهد منكم الغائب ))، وقوله: (( نضَّر الله امرءاً سمع مقالتي فوعاها )) الحديث، وذكر ثلاثة عشر من العلماء ألَّفوا في الأربعين، أولهم عبد الله بن المبارك، وآخرهم أبو بكر البيهقي، وقال بعد ذكرهم: (( وخلائق لا يُحصون من المتقدِّمين والمتأخرين ))، وقال: (( ثم مِن العلماء مَن جمع الأربعين في أصول الدِّين، وبعضهم في الفروع، وبعضهم في الجهاد، وبعضهم في الزهد، وبعضهم في الآداب، وبعضهم في الخطب، وكلُّها مقاصد صالحة رضي الله تعالى عن قاصديها، وقد رأيتُ جمع أربعين أهم من هذا كلِّه، وهي أربعون حديثاً مشتملة على جميع ذلك، وكلُّ حديث منها قاعدة عظيمة من قواعد الدِّين، قد وصفه العلماء بأنَّ مدارَ الإسلام عليه، أو هو نصف الإسلام أو ثلثه أو نحو ذلك، ثم التزمتُ في هذه الأربعين أن تكون صحيحة، ومعظمها في صحيحي البخاري ومسلم، وأذكرها محذوفة الأسانيد ليسهل حفظها ويعم الانتفاع بها إن شاء الله ... وينبغي لكلِّ راغب في الآخرة أن يعرف هذه الأحاديث لِمَا اشتملت عليه من المهمَّات، واحتوت عليه من التنبيه على جميع الطاعات، وذلك ظاهر لِمَن تدبَّره )).\par والأحاديث التي جمعها النووي ـ رحمه الله ـ اثنان وأربعون حديثاً، قد أطلق عليها أربعين تغليباً مع حذف الكسر الزائد، وقد رُزق هذا الكتاب للنووي مع كتابه (( رياض الصالحين )) القبول عند الناس، وحصل اشتهارهما والعناية بهما، وأوَّلُ كتاب ينقدح في الأذهان يُرشَد المبتدئون في الحديث إليه هذه الأربعون للإمام النووي رحمه الله، وقد زاد ابن رجب الحنبلي ـ رحمه الله ـ عليها ثمانية أحاديث من جوامع الكلم، فأكمل بها العدَّة خمسين، وشرحها بكتاب سَمَّاه: (( جامع العلوم والحكم في شرح خمسين حديثاً من جوامع الكلم ))، وقد كثرت شروح الأربعين للإمام النووي، وفيها المختصر والمطوَّل، وأوسع شروحها شرح ابن رجب الحنبلي رحمه الله، وقد رأيتُ شرح هذه الأربعين مع زيادة ابن رجب شرحاً متوسِّطاً قريباً من الاختصار، يشتمل شرح كلِّ حديث على فقرات، وفي ختامه ذكر شيء مِمَّا يُستفاد من الحديث، وقد استفدت في هذا الشرح من شروح النووي وابن دقيق العيد وابن رجب وابن عثيمين للأربعين، ومن فتح الباري لابن حجر العسقلاني، وسمَّيتُه: فتح القوي المتين في شرح الأربعين وتتمَّة الخمسين للنووي وابن رجب رحمهما الله، والمتين من أسماء Other data from the same CSV file. \stoppagemakeup} \stoptext How can I get new PDF documents with a one invoice per document instead of new page breaks? I need PDF documents with only one invoice (but with the correct number) and also a single PDF document with all invoices. Of course, my real documents are more complex. What I need is a file breaking command. Appending -1, -2, -3... -n to the PDF file name would be fine for me. How could I achieve this in the ConTeXt compilation? a question on setuptex

Hans, would it be possible that a 32bit ConTeXt Suite can be used with a 64bit architecture in Linux? Sorry, but yesterday I was surprised to see that setuptex isn’t able to find any binaries in Linux if they are 32bit and the processor is 64bit. Of course, it makes sense in that case that a ConTeXt Suite with 64bit binaries is preferred. But as a fallback, 32bit binaries should be fine. \textfraction query

Is there a way to get \textfraction to produce output in cases B or C (either one will do) as it does in case A? There are a couple of fixes and additions. - We added a few a few more helpers in the pdf namespace (like set|get]gentounicode, [set|get]omitcidset and set|get]decimaldigits. Some helpers were moved from the tex to the pdf namespace. - We added a build_page_insert callback for inserts so that one can for instance adapt spacing on demand. - On the agenda has been some more control over word start and end in hyphenation and this is now possible via hyphenationbounds. We also updated the manual with some more details. - An old tracker item with respect to control over spacing around math was revived and has resulted in mathsurroundmode (one can wonder how useful this is). - We improved the resolution detection in included jpeg images. - An ffi library has been added to luatex so that it is more in sync with luajittex. This permits easy and flexible loading of libraries. Our policy is to make luatex as lean as possible with no dependencies and this is a step towards that. Eventually we hope to support all relevant platforms. - The glue and skip register accessors have been improved as a step in freeing the user from glue spec management. - We added a few more getters and setters for nodes in order to get a more consistent set. - Irrelevant fields have been removed from the status table and an engine identifier has been added. - Of course there are numerous fixes and improvements but none of these have consequences for the interfaces. - The manual has been updated but will be improved over time. strange crash

\externalfigure question

I am unsure about the "canonical" way to scale images to the desired size. my current understanding is, that `scale=' should do what I want in a way portable across `context' incarnations. so currently I use commands like \externalfigure[image.png][scale=750] to adjust the image size to my taste. my problem: the same document looks completely different regarding image size in the produced pdf with standalone installations on osx64 and linux-64. actually, on oxx64 I have to use something like `scale=1500' where on linux-64 `scale=750' seemingly does about the same. questions: * what am I missing? why does the same document compile differently? I can only guess that `context' (or luatex?) has two different opinions of dpi resolution on the two machines when producing the pdf? where can I control/check this? * if `scale=' is not the way to achieve invariant and unambiguous size of images embedded in the document, what is? `width=XXX cm'? i.e.: how is this supposed to be done correctly(TM)? thx/joerg -- Using Opera's revolutionary email client: http://www.opera.com/mail/

labeltext via lua

Hello, if I define a labeltext via \setuplabeltext[en][test=Something], how can I access that value via lua? (context.labeltext obviously prints the content, but doesn't allow me to use it in lua). As a related side-request: how can I fix expansion in cases like this: \startsectionlevel[title=\labeltext{test}] ... this causes the bookmark to read "test" instead of "Something". \expandafter\startsectionlevel... didn't cut it. png and svg backend in mplib embedded in luatex

We are planning to drop the png and svg backend of mplib embedded in luatex . This means that if test.lua uses the png or svg backend $>luatex --luaonly test.lua will not work anymore as expected. To be clear:, *) metapost and mplib will stay as is now; *) mplib when embedded in luatex will loose the png and svg backend. ConTeXt doesn't use the png and svg backend, and it seems that LuaLateX doesn't use these backend too. So....does anybody use the png or svg backend of mplib embedded in luatex ? -- luigi
