special buttons in interactions (AcroJS)

Dear list, on http://www.pragma-ade.com/general/manuals/interaction.pdf#page=40, it is announced that there are buttons that change once clicked (using AcroJS, I guess). There are to be explained on chapter “13. Widgets“ (www.pragma-ade.com/general/manuals/interaction.pdf#page=46) but it has to be composed yet. If I have the following two buttons: \goto{0}[JS(Play{})]% \goto{1}[JS(Pause{})]% How could I merge them into one, so that pressing on it switches between 0 and 1? I've been tinkering with this problem. It's kind of frustrating not having a right solution for this. After trying and failing to the last solution published by Hraban on 2018-02-12, I tried to implement my own approach, from the other way around, I mean: not trying to implement notes as marginal material, but to implement the *marginalia* as some type of notes. A different type, apart from footnotes, with their own counter, etc. Below, a MWE, with some caveats:. 1. This is a poor quality hack. I'm not a developer. 2. If notes are too long, they clash with each other. I tried to understand the options that would allow me to move them up or down, according to the Wiki (https://wiki.contextgarden.net/Command/inmargin) but they don't seem to do anything, or I don't understand how to work with them. But if there is actually a way to manually instruct \inmargin to move up or down, it should be easy to make it work as an optional third argument, for example. 3. The counter introduces some horizontal space that I cant manage to remove except by introducing manual negative \hspace. The MWE doesn't include that space, to display the isse. 4. Hello, I'm trying to build an xmlsetsetup with an own lua function. XML in MKIV says on pg. 33: You can also use normal Lua functions as long as you make sure that you pass the right arguments. Hi, A week ago we had the (nice and pleasant) annual context meeting and as usual some new stuff has been presented there which was not yet in the distribution at that moment. Some pending code is now being moved into the distribution. Part is font related (lmtx only, not relevant for most users), most is metafun (luametafun or metafun xl or whatever name suits) related (including a new preliminary manual) which uses some new interfaces and therefore (currently) is lmtx only. At the meeting Mojca and Harald did some experiments with the whole range of raspberry pi's (as part of upgrading the compile farm with a pi 4). The outcomes can be found at https://meeting.contextgarden.net/2019/talks/2019-09-20-harald-pi/to_pi_or_… (There are some more slides there.) Because running tex on a 4 (with plenty of memory and an external ssd) is more reasonable than on the older models, I've added an lmtx installer for the pi. Some measurements with (really) simple runs show that performance is 3-4 times less than my laptop, which is not that bad (it helps that the 4 has a decent ethernet and usb3 bus); I don't know about more complex tests. circuitikz meters

Hello ... I am drawing some simple circuits for an electro-physics class I am teaching using circuitikz. Using meters gives some effects I don't quite understand. The MWE works as shown. The commented lines fail with "Undefined control sequence". If I put the same 3 lines into Latex (via Texstudio on Linux), just the opposite happens. The line with rmeter fails, the other two work. Why the difference? Some version issue? The "circuitikz manual version 0.9.4.pdf" shows all 3 types of meters as choice. Actually I would prefer to use the "ammeter" and "voltmeter" within Context. Column sets (span) & unwanted vertical gap

Hello, the code bellow produces unwanted vertical gap between the bottom border of the figure and the following title "A" in the first column (marked by red arrows "<->" in the PDF attached). Note that in the second column there is no such gap. I tried to play with "before", "inbetween", "beforesection" and other keys of \setuphead to remove the gap but without success. Is there a way to avoid the vertical gap? Mkiv, fonts in text and math mode, with \definebodyfont

Hello, I am trying to understand something more about fonts in text and math mode, in Mkiv Context. I would like to be able to change things at the "define body fonts" level. I tried the following, in order to have rsfs fonts : \setupbodyfont[12pt] \definebodyfont[12pt][rm][tf=rsfs10 sa *] \starttext \tf ABCD \tfa ABCD \stoptext The \tfa ABCD is displayed as rsfs as I wanted, but the \tf ABCD is displayed as default fonts. Why ? What could I change in order to have \tf ABCD in rsfs ? In math mode, I am not able to have rsfs fonts : \setupbodyfont[12pt] \definebodyfont[12pt][mm][mr=rsfs10 sa *,ex=rsfs10 sa *,mi=rsfs10 sa *,sy=rsfs10 sa *,ma=rsfs10 sa *,mb=rsfs10 sa *] \starttext $ABCD$ \stoptext That gives ABCD in default math mode fonts. Custom Footertext

Multi-letter words/identifiers in math

Dear list, I am trying to typeset some multi-letter words/identifiers in mathematical formulas. Currently, doing things like `{\it variable}` or `{\mathit variable}` under math mode will cause the engine to shift all characters into the corresponding unicode mathematical alphanumeric block position. However, most OpenType fonts that have good support for unicode math are optimized for single-character usage. Therefore, the outcome of such method is non-ideal, as no kerning or ligatures will be enabled. Especially, this gives bad output when typesetting variable names with combinations like “ffi”. Looking through some past discussions on the list, I am aware of the usage of `\mathword` and `\mathtext`. Using those command will keep all the characters “as is” and typeset them under text mode (as far as I can tell). But those commands switch to the main body fonts temporarily to accomplish this. Sometime when using a different math font than the main font (like Palatino with Latin Modern Math), I wish my variable names can also be in the math font (or at least very similar, such as Latin Modern vs. Latin Modern Math) to better merge with the formula. The way I am currently doing is to introduce some “math text fonts” that is different from the main text font but close to the math font. And with custom font switchers like `\mwrm` and `\mwit` to help me define things like ``` \def\wordrm#1{\mbox{\mwrm #1}} \def\wordit#1{\mbox{\mwit #1}} ``` Am I missing some builtin functionalities or easier ways to do this? poem as a sidefloat

Hi, I’d like to have a small poem beside my text. My approach doesn’t work, with or without \framed: Since I need this only once, I thought I don’t need to define or setup my own float. \setupfloat inherits from \setupframed, but the parameters width, style and background(color) don’t work. Aren’t they supposed to work in \startplacefloat? How can I suppress the caption? ("none" is supposed to work with \placefloat, but at least doesn’t in \startplacefloat) With or without framed, vbox and lines didn’t change much. The footer that is added to each message in this list is not DKIM (and thus DMARC) compatible. DKIM requires the ability to create a signature on a set of headers and the body. I get a big space after the comma, which I can prevent by writing $1{,}5$ Is there a less awkward way of getting the comma as a "real" decimal separator? Command completion in TeXShop

I was looking into command completion in TeXShop (MacOS) and came across this two-year-old call for help by one of the developers (I assume) for implementing it for ConTeXt: http://macosx-tex.576846.n2.nabble.com/TeXShop-Command-Completion-ConTeXt-t… As far as I found, command completion for ConTeXt has not yet been implemented. I’m pointing this out in case someone has sufficient knowledge of ConTeXt and is interested. Alternatively, perhaps it has been done, and someone can point me in the right direction. OpenBSD install broken

Greetings, First, thanks for all the wonderful work on context. Now, to the reason for this note. I recently tries to install context on an OpenBSD 6.5 AMD64 system, but the install failed. Thanks to some helpful emails in the archives from 2017 and 2018, I was able to get this working by editing mtxrun and mtx-update.sh. I include what I did below. Thanks again, Robert 1) Do the usual: mkdir context && cd context rsync -ptv rsync://contextgarden.net/standalone/setup/first-setup.sh . ./first-setup.sh This will silently fail, because bin/mtx-update.lua bin/mtxrun do not recognize openbsd. 2) Edit bin/mtxrun: We need to define a "good" version of resolvers.platform(t,k) At line 4049, there is a default definition. Replace it with: function resolvers.platform(t,k) local platform="openbsd6.5-amd64" os.setenv("MTX_PLATFORM",platform) os.platform=platform return platform end 3) Edit bin/mtx-update: 3a) In the table update.platforms add an entry for openbsd: ["openbsd6.5-amd64"] = "openbsd6.5-amd64", I put this at line 198, after the entries for freebsd. 3b) In the function update.synchronize() replace line 282: local platforms = states.get('platforms') or { } with: local platforms = states.get('platforms') or {"openbsd6.5-amd64" } 3c) At the very start of local function add_collection(collection,platform) line 417, add: platform = "openbsd6.5-amd64" Maybe something is broken on my system or these last two aren't really needed, but this is what I did, 4) Edit first-setup.sh: To avoid overwriting the files we just edited, comment out line 146: # rsync -rlptv rsync://contextgarden.net/minimals/setup/$platform/bin . Extracting a column from an array in lua

Hi, Probably this is a silly question… In lua, I have an array named t which is determined in a piece of lua code, having (say) two columns and I want to extract for example the first column of t and call the new array tt. In Matlab, Scilab and friends, this can done by saying tt = t[:,1]. Is this possible in lua? mathring circle above a letter

Hi all, The \mathring command puts a small circle above a letter, but in some fonts (namely Lucida OT) that circle is too small. So thanks to a hint by Hans and Wolfgang some years ago I use the following definition which works fine when used alone. But in maths, one needs sometimes to use it with the command \overline (or \overbar) and the result is not nice. Can someone tell me please whether it is possible to modify the \mathring command so that th ecircle is a little bit larger, or the one I define below as \interior in order to have a correct result (more clearly said: I would like the small circle to be put above the bar which is itself above the A in $\interior{\overline{A}}$). I don't have the fonts but tried it (in a current context mkiv) with "bahnschrift" instead which as far as I could find out should be a variable font too, but can't see any effect. context (lmtx) segfaults on x86_64 linux

Hello, today I updated lmtx and on simple $ context --version I get segfault (in the same time luametatex --version works fine). Running under gdb shows me that the problem might be in one of 'realloc' calls. The context from Context Suite (mkiv) works fine. P.S. I tested on two systems, both runs Archlinux x86_64. --- WBR, Vladimir Lomov -- Carelessly planned projects take three times longer to complete than expected. Carefully planned projects take four times longer to complete than expected, mostly because the planners expect their planning to reduce the time it takes.

Hi, In the process of providing an additional (more abstract) interface to some of the old and also new MetaFun code we wonder what kind of features users would like to see. http://www.pragma-ade.com/general/magazines/mag-1104-mkiv.pdf As a teaser I uploaded a MyWay document that shows some of what is coming. All is experimental but it shows the direction. We're talking ConTeXt LMTX here. For instance, draw lmt_outline [ content = "hello", kind = "reverse", fillcolor = "darkred", drawcolor = "darkblue", rulethickness = 1/2, ] ysized h shifted (3.75h,-1.25h) ; Wraps all the outline drawing in one macro with a set of options (there will be xml interface definitions for that). Or take: draw lmt_followtext [ content = "How well does it work {\bf 1}! ", path = (fullcircle scaled 4cm), trace = true, spread = true, ] ysized 5cm ; which is an easier interface to text along a curve. Arrows can be drawn with draw lmt_arrow [ kind = "draw", location = "middle", alternative = "curved", path = fullcircle scaled 3cm shifted (3.5cm,0cm), ] withcolor "darkblue" ; but of course the low level interface with its many variables for tweaking stays around. Other examples are shown in the mentioned document. So the question is: What do you miss in metapost support? Of course it should fit within the concept, so 'artistic freehand drawings' is not something that is likely to get interfaced. We are particularly interested in educational applications, if only because ConTeXt started out that way. Arithmetic overflow on placing an external figure in MP

Bear with me, I still got no experience in MetaPost… I’m trying to place a pixel image on a MP page. According to the MetaFun manual this should work: \startMPpage draw externalfigure "mill.png" scaled 5cm shifted (-6cm,0) ; \stopMPpage And it works with mill.png (copied into my test dir), but with none of my other PNGs, I always get ! A little while ago one of the quantities that I was computing got too large, so I'm afraid your answers will be somewhat askew. You'll probably have to adopt different tactics next time. Cross-reference expansion with ConTeXt and processing with LuaTeX

Dear list members, I want to process cross-references in ConTeXt/LuaTeX, that is, to do some calculations in Lua with the page and line numbers returned by the \at and \inlinerange commands. But this does not work, as these commands are obviously not being expanded before they are passed to Lua. Page number woes

Hello! I have a document where I want the page numbers to start from the first page of chapter one. There's bunch of stuff before that, including a table of contents. This has worked fine: \startproduct prd-pr23 \startfrontmatter \setuppagenumber[stop] \component pr23-cover_front_web \component blank.tex \component c-contents \stopfrontmatter \startbodymatter \setuppagenumber[start] \component dtr_pg.tex \stopbodymatter \stopproduct However, now I need to switch to using a full-page pdf as cover page and changing that one line messes up with my page numbering, now TOC appears as page 1 and chapter one starts from page 2 in my test file. \startproduct prd-pr23 \startfrontmatter \setuppagenumber[stop] \startpagefigure[cover_vaisala_front_stripped]\stoppagefigure \component blank.tex \component c-contents \stopfrontmatter \startbodymatter \setuppagenumber[start] \component dtr_pg.tex % third chapter (DTR) \stopbodymatter \stopproduct What is it that I don't see? I tried moving the cover page before the \startfrontmatter, but that didn't change anything, TOC still starts on page 2 when it shouldn't have a page number at all. Why does switching the cover page from .tex to \pagefigure have such an effect and how can I counteract it? Mari (Obviously the real thing is a lot bigger, but the behaviour is the same. These are as close to MWE as I can get.)

Strange pagebreaks in LMTX

Hi all, I have a document which typesets correctly in mkiv giving a PDF file with 7 pages, but the same document typeset with lmtx gives two pages with a strange pagebreak on the second page. tikz problem with fontsize

Hello all, I am trying to set the fontsize in a tikz image and that is failing. Strangely at the \node line with : ! Undefined control sequence. As the MWE stands now, it will fail. The now commented line works. main context file: /usr/local/context/tex/texmf-context/tex/context/base/mkiv/context.mkiv current version: 2019.08.24 22:42 The fontsize statement work in kTikz. Then I do ./install.sh but it seems the installation failed. This works fine \defineparagraphs[Colonne][n=2] \starttext \startlinenumbering \input knuth \stoplinenumbering \input knuth \stoptext Whereas this does not work as expected \defineparagraphs[Colonne][n=2] \starttext \startColonne \startlinenumbering \input knuth \stoplinenumbering \Colonne \input knuth \stopColonne \stoptext Playing with \setuplinenumbering (location=text and so on) didn't help. Maybe this has to do with setting margins in defineparagraphs, but I can't figure out how to do it. Hi again, in my books I often use \startstandardmakeup for the initial pages. A typical use case is a bastard title (half-title) on the first page and the copyright information (imprint) on the second, like in this MWE: \setuppagenumbering[ alternative=doublesided, ] \starttext \startstandardmakeup[align=center] bastard title \stopstandardmakeup \startstandardmakeup[page=left] \vfill imprint \stopstandardmakeup \stoptext With a doublesided layout, the second (left) page is preceded by two empty pages. On Windows it’s 'start "" "<file>"' (empty quotes for default program), don’t know if that’s implemented. Syntax hightlighting

Dear list, I’m using colored verbatim code (for course notes). In the past, I modified verb-mp.mkii for the langage I need (SAS). This code works fine with MKII: %—————— \setupcolors[state=start] \definetyping [MP] [option=MP] \starttext A example: \startMP draw (0,0) withpen pencircle 1in withcolor red ; \stopMP \stoptext %—————— I obtain a color syntax output (« draw » in red, « within » in green for example). This code does not work anymore in MKIV (every word is the same color, green). There should be a solution ? Trying to find some help, in the maling list and the « verbatim_text » page on Context garden, I found some solutions, like pretty printing, which should work on MKIV, but "pret-mp.lua » is found nowhere (nor in the context source browser, nor in my recent distribution). I must admit I’m lost in all the solutions I found there and there (most of them never works out of the box on my installation). Can somebody refer me to a simple solution, which permit me to do colored verbatim code, such as I can modify a source to insert the keywords of the langage I use ? Thanks ! Fabrice.

Hi, I've attached a document that I made last week. It's (currently) an lmtx only feature. In acrobat, the 'marked' areas (some tracing option) are the hyperlink. I have no clue how useful this is, maybe for maps or some educational setting. I had it on my agenda to play with it anyway. I don't think that viewers other than acrobat support it (even if it's already quite old pdf stuff; they should anyway fall back on the rectangle) but who knows ... Hi, According to the wiki and 2003 article Pasting Digits together, to get 1314000 typeset as 1\,314\,000, I should do \setdigits 3 \digits{1314000} unfortunatly, the \setdigits command looks obsolete (MkII command? Could not find in my ConTeXt help information server (http://localhost:8088/mtx-server-ctx-help.lua? and so on…). I am using 2018 texlive. Maybe job is now done by \setupunit, but couldn't figure out how it works. So what should I do to have numbers typeset the French way (points&commas or thinmuskip&commas)? Bug with jobs.file.run?

Hi, I use jobs.file.run in t-filter to cache the results so that the external filters are only run if the content has changed. For some reason, this is not working but I cannot figure out why? Repeating the same steps as t-filter manually works, but something goes wrong when I use the t-filter interface. See the attached test.tex file. When I run context test.tex context test.tex | grep run I get graphics > run > processing file, no changes in 'test.md', not processed graphics > run > processing file, changes in 'test-temp-pandoc-0.tmp', processing forced Notice that the first run is the manual job.files.run and the second run is the one from t-filter. The test file contains a fix, which is simply a copy-paste of the relavant code from graph-fil.lua. When I run context --mode=fix test.tex context --mode=fix test.tex | grep run I get graphics > run > processing file, no changes in 'test.md', not processed graphics > run > processing file, no changes in 'test-temp-pandoc-0.tmp', not processed So, I am not sure what is going wrong, and why is it getting fixed if I simply copy the definition of jobs.file.run. Produce multiple versions in one run

Hi, let's say I want to produce two different versions of my document, one with papersize a4, the other with papersize a5. ``` \setuppapersize[a4][a4] \startmode[a5] \setuppapersize[a5][a5] \stopmode ``` What is the best way to produce both versions with one command? Different layout for specific pages

Dear list, I would like to specify in advance that certain pages are to have different layouts. Is this a bug or can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? I've tried using the lmtx binaries, a recent context standalone version (2019-08-17) and using context live with the same result everywhere. Dear list members, In my book I am creating an index. I know that there are commands for formatting index entries, like: \index{sl::īga} if I want the word 'īga' to be printed in slanted type. I also know that we can create sub-entries, like \index{īga+emphasized} But now I want the word 'īga' to be slanted, but not the word 'emphasized'. I have tried things like \index{sl::īga+rm::emphasized}, but I can't figure this out. Any suggestions? Robert

I want exam paper of two columns in a page and in each column two problems located with the same space for solution. In general, it worked well, except the solution space of the last problem. Without \column, the heights of the two problems in the last column are different. With \column, the heights are same, but it create another extra blank page. It is not a big problem, but I wonder there is a solution. Thank you for your concern. Hi Hans, Thanks to your reply, I just discovered the reason for which I could not typeset in lmtx files which have a space in their name from the Terminal: one has to say context "exercice 1.tex" that is to enclose the entire filename between double quotes… Which is completely logical! Trouble with lmtx install.bat

Dear list, It seems that sometimes incremental install.bat (ie run without wiping out the whole lmtx directory) does not work the same as full installation (ie wiping out the whole directory and reinstalling). I’ve ran install.bat first time this morning and I got the following error during installation tex error > tex error on line 137 in file page-txt.mklx: ! LMTX: Space in file names

Hi Hans, I noticed that the lmtx beta from 2019.08.18 22:27 does not anymore accept spaces in file names, while the mkiv version does accept it. I am aware that putting a space in a file name is a very bad habit, but I am convincing some people who were used to use MS Word in order for them to use ConTeXt, and these people have many files with names containing spaces such as « correction problème 1.tex » (and in fact this is how I noticed this new behavior of lmtx: when typesetting such a file, lmtx looks for « correction.tex »). That is why I think if lmtx could continue to accept spaces in file names that would be very convenient. Do you think this would be possible? Best regards: OK
