European style Circuitikz error

In page 8 inte e Circuitikz manual the settings to get European style components e.g resistors like rectangular boxes instead of default looking. It says this \usemodule[circuitikz][american] When I do this \usemodule[circuitikz][european] It gives an error. ! Package pgfkeys Error: I do not know the key '/tikz/short' and I am going to ignore it. Perhaps you misspelled it. So it must be some other way to set this, how do I make it possible? Problem with \setuparranging

Hello, I need to create a document where page arranging is mixed somhow - so that some pages are to be typeset "normally", some other placed "2 pages onto 1 page". All pages should appear as A3 size. A simplified code follows; its goal is: - page 1: to be one external figure of size A3 (red), - page 2: to be composed of one page of size A4 (green) on the left half, some text on the right half, - page 3: to be one external figure of size A3 (the same as on page 1) - page 4: to be composed of one page of size A4 on the left half, some text on the right half (as on page 2). The (unwanted) result is: - page 1: as expected, - page 2: as expected, - page 3: surprisignly A4 (red) (whilst the figure is of A3), - page 4: surprisingly A3, but some text on the left half, and no green A4. Is \setuparranging limited somehow or intended for another use? How to generate "Goal.pdf" instead of "t.pdf"? Best regards, Lukas

The following code gives an error, my goal is to draw 4 different arrows but only three functions successfully. Customizing \cite alternatives

Hi List, I want the comma gone from “et al.” citations, and modify the cite alternatives: - [authoryear]: (Surname, et al., 2018) → (Surname et al., 2018) - [authoryears]: Surname, et al. (2018) → Surname et al. (2018) Also I’d like to configure how many names are the maximum before all except the first are replaced by “et al.” i.e. \setupcitething[maxauthors=3]: (One, Two, Three, & Four, 2018) → (One et al., 2018) How can I do this? Accessing raw titles in textcommand in TOC

Hello, I would like to display titles differently in TOC than they appear in text. For example, MyChapter1 -> 1retpahCyM. Basically any highly non-trivial transformation that really needs Lua. I've written simple Lua macros before, but the following approach trying to define textcommand does not work since I can't find the way to pass the raw title to my transform function. \startluacode userdata = userdata or {} function userdata.mytransform(title) --context(title) --this is just fine, but isn't very useful context(string.reverse(title)) end \stopluacode \def\transformtitle#1% {\ctxlua{userdata.mytransform([==[#1]==])}} \setuplist[chapter][textcommand=\transformtitle] \starttext \completecontent \startchapter[title={Sample Chapter}] \stopchapter \stoptext When I print the actual title that is passed to mytransform, all I get is \currentlistentrytitle and I haven't succeed expanding it (and there's all kind of formatting stuff and so on going on I suppose). It's an attempt to use inkscape-made SVG graphics inside a CMYK workflow, without using color management. Naturally it would work under some constraints, but there's a lot of graphics you can do with Inkscape that falls inside these: - the number of colors in the input SVG should be limited, so that every color gets converted - no embedded bitmaps, only vector graphics - perhaps some other constraints on gradients, transparency, etc. A good alternative would be a remapper based on a custom lua function like this: function rgb2cmyk( r, g, b ) ... return c, m, y, k end Massi

Howto metapost textext set or change basepoint (origin) baseline of text

Hi I have the following problem. I convert a eps file using pstoedit into meta post file. When running this file through mptopdf the resulting pdf image is as expected. When i include, using the input command, the file within a startMPcode endMPcode or startMPpage stopMPpage after replacing simple draw <string>... by draw textext(<string) ... and compile the tex file with context than texts inside the graphic are schilfted bottom left. To mee it seems as textext uses a different basepoint/baseline of the text, than pstoedit assumed. Maybe in additon effects related to differences in fonts may be additional reason. My questions are What keywords do i have to enter in google or the context garden wiki search box to obtain examples and questions dealing with similar aspects How do i explicitly set the position of the text origin point within the textbox/lable box used by textext. eg. assume origin point bottom left, left on baseline, center in the middle etc. What else might i bee missing or having a wrong idea how things are done by netapost/metafun/context in this context? Fonts not in preview of online print shop

Dear all, strange problem with my online print shop. I want to print 3 products. 1. Business Cards 2. Flyer 3. Poster All definitions for fonts, colors, color profiles and pdf version come from one an the same file (env-cd.tex). All PDFs passed the data check without problems, but Business Cards and Poster appear without any fonts in the final preview. Only the Flyer looks ok. The service staff is nice but has no idea where to look, never heard of ConTeXt. For the business cards the print shop will do paid manual enhancement. The poster is not as time critical. Any idea where to look? juh

I think the flow of characters is broken in MKXL. Some With TeX Gyre Heros (https://pdf.ousia.tk/mkiv-hz.pdf and https://pdf.ousia.tk/mkxl-hz.pdf) - "computer": line 5. - "basic": line 8. - "showing": line 10. With Source Serif Pro, also (https://pdf.ousia.tk/ssp-mkiv-hz.pdf and https://pdf.ousia.tk/ssp-mkxl-hz.pdf) - "publishing": line 2. - "about": line 4. - "between": line 10. I’m experiencing this wherever I use hz with MkXL. Sorry, but cannot the default values for quality font expansion be the same in MkIV and MkXL? Any plans for an active color management?

Hi all, I would like to come back to a discussion from 2018 on this list. After printing some flyers for my cooperative I come to the conclusion that color management *is* very difficult. In my eyes, the only way of getting good results seems to be the following process. My starting point are RGB colors as we are doing online first. So if I create a poster or a flyer I have to do this: 1. Decide which print shop will print the material. 2. Download and install the color profile for this print shop in ConTeXt. 3. Specify CMYK values by using transicc with the given profile 4. Define named corporate colors with these CMYK values for typography, colored background in ConTeXt. 5. Convert all RGB images to CMYK using the given color profile especially if they contain corporate colors. Now if we decide to use another print shop, the whole process has to start again. The result is that I end up with color settings for x different print shops and cmyk images for x different print shops. Are there any plans to automate these steps into ConTeXt? That would enable us to work in RGB the whole time. Only when creating a print pdf we would specify a color profile and ConTeXt would do the rest by converting all rgb values to cmyk values due to the given color profile. As this seems very complex I fear that there are no plans to do this. What alternatives I have? ========================= What if deliberately define my own cmyk values once and for all? Can I work with the same cymk values no matter what profile is used by the print shop? TIA juh

Chapter in header, but not on title page

I guess I’m stupid. I’d like to have my chapter title in the header on right pages, but not on the first page of a chapter, that always is a right page. Since I’d like to keep the page number in the header on these pages, I can’t use header=empty. What’s the right setup for me? I didn't know that and I'm sure I've updated several times without it: I have different environments to be able to switch between different versions of context (lmtx, the old one, that from texlive...), I never check which one I'm in before updating lmtx and the installer does not complain. Repeat backgrounds on slides

It seems as if the layer is gone after the first usage. Label in externalfigures

Dear Members! I have a question on how to achieve something like this. \IncludePicture[picture.pdf][xpos=2, ypos= 4, label=some text] I know there is a similar function in the simple slides module but I need it in my documents, often exams to my students, so caption is mainly not necessary. The background to this is that I often creating pictures in Inkscape and export it to pdf but sometimes I do screenshots and save it in .png or .pdf format. So I just want to put labels in it like a layer in same size as the included picture. Or is this something that’s already solved so "reinventing wheel" is unnecessary? Thanks in advance Jan-Erik

Color Profiles in lmtx

Hi all, again I have a question concerning color profiles. I have this to load the ISO Coated v2 300% profile. \setupbackend[ format=PDF/X-3:2003, intent={ISO Coated v2 300\letterpercent\space (ECI)}, ] \setupcolors[cmyk=yes,rgb=no,] But is this profile part of the new lmtx version? I get this in my logs backend > profiles > profile specification 'ISO Coated v2 300% (ECI)' loaded from '/home/juh/context-linux-64/tex/texmf-context/colors/icc/context/colorprofiles.xml' But I am not sure whether the profile is really loaded. In the old context distribution I had to put the profile in texmf-local. Hello ConTeXters! LuaMetaTeX, Version 2.03.15 ConTeXt ver: 2020.02.07 18:36 MKIV beta fmt: 2020.2.10 works well doing my usual tasks. Now, I put an .otf-font into ".../tex/texmf-local/", and made mtxrun --generate mtxrun --script fonts --reload mtxrun --script fonts --list --all --pattern=<pattern*>, but didn't get the expected information on the new font from the last command. So I investigated the output of the first two commands in more detail and found: 1. mtxrun --generate: resolvers | resolving | warning: no lua configuration files found resolvers | resolving | no texmf paths are defined (using TEXMF) By the way, "TEXMF" seems to be a mtxrun variable and hasn't directly to do with the environmental variable "TEXMF" which gets extinguished. 2. mtxrun --script fonts --reload: mtxrun | the resolver databases are not present or outdated mtxrun | unknown script 'fonts.lua' or 'mtx-fonts.lua' Please, what is to be done? If method is normal (generating an annotation), /T in /FileAttachment doesn’t "honor the "name" option. Would it be possible that both cases contain the value from the name "option" instead of file? Fonts from various .otf to work with \bold, \emph, \bf, \bfa ...

Hello, although font switching used to be discussed here and I studied wiki about font changing, I don't switch fonts in ConTeXt very often and my "maximum" font change was provided by \setupbodyfont[(e.g. termes)]. Now I am in the situation that I need to use fonts defined in: work-sans.bold.otf work-sans.bold-italic.otf work-sans.light.otf work-sans.light-italic.otf (all from https://www.1001fonts.com/work-sans-font.html) so that: - normal text and math (nothing special - just subscripts) would be typeset with work-sans.light.otf - \bold (\bf) would use work-sans.bold.otf, - \emph (\em and \it) would use work-sans.light-italic.otf, - \bi would use work-sans.bold-italic.otf - also commands \bfa, \bfc, ... would use work-sans.bold.otf scaled somehow (probably by multiples of 1.2). Does anyone knows a hint to get the stacked boxes to the correct size? Hi, I’m a bit late: Last week the Unicode consortium released the latest version of their nowadays mostly-emoji standard. Besides several entries for transgender representation, there are also new animals, and most important: “my” ConTeXt mascot, the Dodo! ;D see https://unicode.org/emoji/charts-13.0/emoji-released.html I still miss e.g. - adaptible colors for everything-else-than-skintone (e.g. vehicles) - political symbols (red flag, hammer-and-sickle – of course the selection would be a political decision and would cause problems with prohibited, e.g. nazi, symbols, but maybe we can just get simple flags in several colors? adaptible would make sense...) - lots of local and/or vegetarian food (Kässpätzle, Leberkäswecken, Schupfnudeln, veg. pizza, tofu…) - some sense… While I agree that we need some standardization in symbols, I still don’t think it was a good idea to mix them with text glyphs and bloat font technology with colors. Official file ending?

Hi! Most text editors have LaTeX specific syntax highlighting, so it makes sense to give your ConTeXt file a ending it can be distinguished with. Is there a blessed one? - .ctx: Would mirror the semi-common .ltx, but is used for XML files inside of ConTeXt itself - .mkiv: Is that just for ConTeXt or all LuaTeX stuff? Would it make sense to give text documents that extension? - Something else? (.tex doesn’t count, it’s shared with LaTeX files and plain TeX files) Best, Philipp

How to approach a ConTeXt language server?

Language servers are the new big deal in editor and IDE development: https://langserver.org/ It would be cool to have a ConTeXt one for autocompletion (for ConTeXt: command names, \cite IDs, labels, named parameters, …), go-to-definition, hover information (docs about a command) and so on. The way it works is that you have a server process that is the source of truth for all this information, and the editor passes requests to it. The editor tells the server when it opens/closes files and when the user requests something of the above. The way I’d implement it in ConTeXt is to keep a list of open ConTeXt projects in the server (obtained by following \include, \component, \product, \environment, \project). Now my questions begin: 1. Then I’d make context load the project without compiling it to a PDF but make it execute some Lua (how do I do this?) 2. I’d need a way to get all available commands with their signatures into Lua. I assume this is done here, but how? http://www.pragma-ade.nl/general/qrcs/setup-en.pdf 3. Optimally, for hover information and completion, I’d want some help/doc text for each command that has some. Is there a way to get it? 4. Optimally, for label autocompletion, I’d also like a list of defined labels. Since I played around with bibliographies I already know how to query the bibliography DB from Lua. 5. Optimally I’d also want some parse tree of each document, but I assume the way macros work, this doesn’t exist? This would make things easier that I’d otherwise have to (imperfectly) parse out of the document (due to things like catcode changes, but I guess I can pretend they don’t exist and \unprotect is always on) 6. Optimally, for go-to-definition, I’d also want a list of files ConTeXt loaded so I can find definitions in it. Can anyone help me, especially with 1-2? To get me started, it would be great to have an example script and a command line to invoke it, which makes ConTeXt load a main tex file, execute some Lua, and exit without creating a document or writing anything else to the channel Lua writes to (stdout?). Hans was so kind to help me with a setup for some generated output. I am trying to understand every line of his example so I can expand on his exmaple to make it fully functional. In his example there is: context('draw textext("\\framed[frame=off,offset=5bp,align={middle,lohi,verytolerant,broad},width=%sbp]{%s}") shifted center AllNodes[%i] ;',w,name,i) as command to draw a node and the node type is defined like this: context("save ApplicationComponent ; path ApplicationComponent ; ApplicationComponent := unitsquare ; ") For a quick example this works, but ‘unitsquare’ is a simple thing. How do I create a more complex shape that is reusable? What if I would like the path to be like this: With this as the complex behaviour of the shape The font size scaled so the label fits inside the image (choice yes/no) The small boxes sized according to the font size or sized according to the box size (choice text/box) The bounding box following the actual complex outline The upper of the two small boxes in line with the upper text line (in case the size is coupled to the text size) The colour of the background a default colour or given as parameter This is one of the more complex shapes, if I can do this one it might give me enough information to define all the other ones. margintext and floats in the margin

Hi, Is it possible to put some short notes in the margin, together with a float? Below is an example, which puts the float on top of the text in the margin. The option « stack=yes » works fine for the margintext when there is no float, but it does not seems to be an option which puts the figure and margintext in a sort of stack. beta vs current

Hi, Already for quite some years the 'current' context release is the one that ends up on texlive. The rest of the year we talk about betas and very rarely an alpha release. This distinction no longer makes sense. From now on there will be no alpha, beta or current (with latest begin the most recent of the three, when present): we only will have latest. Most users follow the latest anyway and keeping a copy of some tree is cheap. There will of course be the yearly tex live snapshots and these will have the year attached to them. So, effectively nothing changes, apart from the fact that we no longer use the labels (and distinction on the website). [question] \clipping some data from a pdf

Does anyone know? Using the latest LMTX, i try to clip some portion of an external pdf page, then resize that portion on top a new page. i use the \clip command. \starttext \scale[width=100mm, hwight=100mm]{\clip[width=150mm, height=120mm, hoffset=30mm, voffset=40mm]{\externalfigure[drawing.pdf]}} % incorrect \scale[width=100mm, hwight=100mm]{\clip[width=150mm, height=120mm, hoffset=30mm, voffset=136mm]{\externalfigure[drawing.pdf]}} % correct \stoptext I noticed that the voffset parameter *always* counts from the top/left of the external source. Also if the source has its origin defined at the lower/left corner. Is that intentional? It is confusing as when i place a rectangle on top of the clip i want to extract from the source pdf, the x,w,w,h of that rectangle will not match the parameter needed for the \clip command. Or does there happen to be some snazzy tool out there to get the coordinates of embedden images within a pdf? .Floris

Dear list, I have to check whether an external PDF document is portrait or landscape (in order to manipulate it in different ways). Hi again. I use columnsets and wanted to setup my section titles to have one blank line before and none after them. If I use before={\blank[line]}, I sometimes don’t get that blank line. If I use \blank in my section command, I get it always, but also if the section starts on top of a column. How can I reliably get one blank line before a section title, but not on the top of a column? That’s the original problem. The MWE also shows: – There’s irregular space at the top of columns, esp. on the first page. – Sometimes the multi-line section title is moved into the previous paragraph. These issues get fixed with grid=yes. The original problem is also fixed in the MWE if I enable grid mode, there are just sometimes two blank lines instead of one. In my actual project I get one or zero lines. Challenged by Mojca we managed to get native compilation under mswindows working in visual studio (and soon the compile farm will do several windows compilation variants) so future installation can have either native binaries or crosscompiles (they have comparable performance with the native ones being a bit smaller). The current upload still has crosscompiled binaries. I hit a similar problem in 2016, and Wolfgang provided a solution (defining different numbering environment). However, this does not work within a frame. Hi, Is it possible to put some short notes in the margin, together with a float? Below is an example, which puts the float on top of the text in the margin. The option « stack=yes » works fine for the margintext when there is no float, but it does not seems to be an option which puts the figure and margintext in a sort of stack. Using the separate ConTeXt on macOS (Mojave)

I’m installing a clear separate ConTeXt. I’ve installed it in /Applications/context/. According to https://wiki.contextgarden.net/Mac_Installation <https://wiki.contextgarden.net/Mac_Installation>: Creating an Engine for TeXShop Actually, engine is somewhat misleading. In TeXShop an engine is a script that contains commands that are use to typeset your documents. TeXShop comes with many engines set up to run TeX, LaTeX, Xe(La)TeX and ConTeXt MKII and MKIV that have been installed via MacTeX. If you want to use ConTeXt Suite you will have to create an TeXShop-engine. If you have not run TeXShop start it so that the support files for TeXShop are installed for you. Since in the newer versions of MacOS the users Library-folder is hidden and not accessible from within TeXShop we will use the terminal for simplicity reasons. If you wish you can access the your Library-folder from the Finder and navigate to the Engines-folder inside of the TeXShop-folder inside your Library-folder and choose a ConTeXt-engine. Start the Terminal you will find it in the Utility-folder in the Applications-folder Find your username is, if you do not know it already. The command whoami will output your user name. Open the standard MKIV engine for TeXShop enter open -a TeXShop $HOME/Library/TeXShop/Engines/ConTeXt\ $LuaTeX$.engine This will open the file in TeXShop and switch to TeXShop But this .engine file does not exist. There are no .engine files at all (just an Inactive directory). So, what should I do? G

Hi, for my section titles I’m looking for the alignment parameters that give me: - left aligned - no hyphenation (or only where I set breakpoints manually) - no overfull hboxes At the moment I have align={flushleft,extremestretch,nothyphenated} (would use also hz and hanging, if they don’t interfere), but in a few cases I still get section titles that are much wider than the text column. Can I reduce the penalty for underfull hboxes? Or what else? In case it matters, this is within a columnset. Best, Hraban

Background: I’m typesetting the annual report of my home town’s "friends of the earth" chapter. The corporate design has pages with one, two and three columns (yes, that makes sense). Chapter titles run over the whole page width or sometimes only over two columns on three column pages. Images, ads and "boxes" are one or two columns wide (here, top or bottom placement, "here" only in one column). There are a few simple tables on one or two column pages. I guess I must use columnsets? Still looking into the other options. typing+framedtext: different behaviour between TL2017 and 2019

Hi all, if I compile the following (minimised) code with ConTeXt from TL2017, I receive expected result -- one framed gray box with correct width. \starttext\showframe \defineframedtext[MPT][background=color,backgroundcolor=gray,width=\makeupwidth,frame=on,offset=1cc,] \setuptyping[MP][before={\startMPT},after={\stopMPT},] \startMP bla \stopMP \stoptext Now I tried it with ConTeXt from TL2019 (TL2018 produces the same result as TL2019) and I have got _two_ boxes -- the outer one is correct and frames the typing environment as in the past whereas the new box frames the text inside the typing. Unfortunately, both boxes seems to be controlled by the \defineframedtext[MPT] which caused that the inner box runs outside the typesetting area, i.e. the left offset value is applied twice. I found out that it is related with the given name MP. Therefore, I renamed it to another name (it was ok) but after adding "option=mp" I came across the same problem. Is there any way how to define behaviour of both boxes in the existing \startMP environment apart? Or is it not possible? Best wishes, Tomáš

Epub export css buglets

A couple of small issues with the css for epub output. First, back-exp.lua creates, in \jobname-styles.css @namespace context url('%namespace%') ; This should probably be: @namespace context url('http://www.pragma-ade.com/context/export') ; That file also has: document, %namespace%div.document { font-size : %size% !important ; max-width : %width% !important ; text-width : %align% !important ; hyphens : %hyphens% !important ; } which contains the invalid css property text-width. Perhaps that should be text-align or text-justify. Something else appears to be creating, in \jobname-defaults.css: pubfld[detail="title"], div.pubfld.title { display : inline ; font-weight : italic ; } which incorrectly assigns italic to font-weight when of course it is a font-style as far as css is concerned. This can be seen in file export-example.css in the distribution. -- Rik

fancy chapter setup

Hi all, I’m trying to setup a book layout where each chapter begins with a quote and an image on the left page, followed by title and text start on the right page. While the quote & image thing works, I can’t get the title on the right page, ConTeXt always puts it right of the image, even if that’s as wide as the text width. \page[right] doesn’t do anything. Where’s my mistake? There are also chapters without that intro, therefore I use \doifnot{\structureuservariable{subtitle}}, but those should also start on a right page. I could also use a different section name. But I don’t think that’s the problem. (The page number should appear on the right page; it wouldn’t hurt on the left page, but the chapter title should only appear on following pages.) Dear Hans, Recent updates to ConTeXt broke my CV. This MWE \usemodule[letter] \starttext \stoptext fails with ...texmf-modules/tex/context/third/letter/base/s-cor-00.lua:88: attempt to call a nil value (field 'uselibrary') Here are the steps by which I can reproduce on my machine: rm -rf /opt/context/tex/texmf-cache mtxrun --generate context --make context test.mkvi Same for LMTX. Hi list, I am new to LMTX, so before going any further I wanted to compile my plain TeX documents with LMTX. I am aware that LMTX is experimental, so perhaps what I am doing is impossible for the moment or worse, it is not even in your plans. Yet another small problem: I my photo captions, the photographer should be right aligned and in one line, i.e. if it doesn’t fit into the last line of the caption, it should move to the next line. Check for parity of pair tags on source file to be closed

Hello, in most cases, when a source file is to be closed, pair elements (tags) should balanced. This concerns e.g. { - }, \bgroup - \egroup, \startitemize - \stopitemize, \if - \fi etc. When we have a complicated project structure and when compiling the topmost (root) source, a log for a disbalanced tag may appear, but the unbalanced tag however may be difficult to find. Is there a way to enable "watching" pair tags (at least mentioned before) in the way that their disbalance would be reported (logged)? Maybe a "enable tracker" could provide that... Sample: ---- A.mkiv \starttext A \input B.mkiv \stoptext ---- B.mkiv \startitemize \item B ---- <- "\startitemize" is unbalanced (unfinished by \stopitemize) in the scope of B.mkiv, so a message/log ("unfinished \startitemize") should be printed when B.mkiv is to be closed. @inproceedings not formatted

Hi all, It seems that the \placelistofpublications refuses to format the @inproceedings entries. Instead, it yields something like "inproceedings: [author: AnAuthor] [title: SomeTitle]". I tried the command \showbtxfields following [ http://pragma-ade.nl/general/manuals/mkiv-publications.pdf] Table 3.2, but instead of 25 entries where @inproceedings is supposed to appear, it gives only 4 (article, book, demo-a, demo-b). extreme table and right frames with vertically spanned cells

Hi all, I've put `OSFONTDIR=/usr/share/fonts` in ~/.../texlive/2019/texmf.cnf, but `mtxrun --script fonts --reload` refuses to look it up, even though `kpsewhich --expand-path '$OSFONTDIR'` gives /usr/share/fonts. `export OSFONTDIR=/usr/share/fonts` does work, but doesn't feel very tex-y. Any help is appreciated.

I'm defining item groups in ConTeXt and I find the following issue: combining the "text" parameter with others automatically disables "left" and "right" keys, so numbers always appear enclosed in parentheses. %What I expect: %I. Indentation problem inside enumeration

Hi! I've met a strange problem with indentation in consecutive enumerations. It seems to me that if 1) the first enumeration uses indentnext=no AND 2) the next enumeration uses a background then the second(?) paragraph of the second enumeration is not indented. Hi, I uploaded the last beta for this years so we will leave all old bugs behind us. Here's a bit of agenda: - mkiv will use luatex so as part of the upcoming tl code freeze that needs the usual testing; - next year i suppose that lmtx will be used by the majority of users - we need to (read mojca and i will do that when we're in the mood) adapt the garden infrastructure for installing lmtx; part of that is also the context repository - we have to think about how to deal with the extra modules as part of that (basics are already there) - idris, mohammad, wolfgang and i are trying to make right-to-left handling of layout related items more complete and consistent, expect more next year - i expect to do some more luametafun stuff, maybe some cleanup of old code, maybe a bitmore split between old mkiv and new lmtx - i also want to do some pending font trickery, probably lmtx only - wolfgang (he doesn't know that yet) and i (and maybe some others) are going to think about some lightweight protection of core macros (using some new lmtx features) .. i'm curious to know if and how frequently users are bitten by accidental redefinitions - aditya (he knows) has to pick up on some pending math issues so math will get better too - thomas (he also knows as he needs it) and i are looking into some tricky layout things related to synchronizing content - i want to see if the installation can be more automatic (as we basically need a real minimalistic copy-end-run approach in for instance texlive for lmtx) - i need to move some pending stuff into all kind of manuals (but will probably forget about it unless i run into new cd's to keep me occupied while doing it) - there will be a ctx meeting in czech (at the place we've been before) - in addition, next year will see the wiki being improved, something Taco and Pavneet and others are / have been working on; feel free to contribute to that effort! Dear Hans, I read the “luametafun.pdf” and run the codes one by one. It is a really nice to have those figures easily. During the reading, I found that there is a difference between the figure in the manual and the output of my run. I am using Latin Modern Roman to typeset some proceedings and need the following characters in regular, italic, and small caps: Character: ṉ U+1E49 Name: LATIN SMALL LETTER N WITH LINE BELOW Character: Ṉ U+1E48 Name: LATIN CAPITAL LETTER N WITH LINE BELOW Character: ḻ U+1E3B Name: LATIN SMALL LETTER L WITH LINE BELOW Character: Ḻ U+1E3A Name: LATIN CAPITAL LETTER L WITH LINE BELOW Character: ṟ U+1E5F Name: LATIN SMALL LETTER R WITH LINE BELOW Character: Ṟ U+1E5E Name: LATIN CAPITAL LETTER R WITH LINE BELOW These characters are available in Computer Modern Unicode (although not, it seems, in small caps). Still, I would prefer to still with LM. issues with attachments

Hi Hans, I accidentally discovered that file attachment generates two entries in Acrobat, such as this sample: \setuppapersize[A5] \showframe \setupinteraction[state=start] \setupinteractionscreen[option=attachment] \starttext a\attachment[file=xml-mkiv.pdf, name={attached.pdf}] \stoptext This happens with latest beta (from 2019.12.17) in both MkIV and MkXL. https://www.pdfa.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/PDF20_AN002-AF.pdf#search=u… warns about the use of both /EmbeddedFiles and /FileAttachment annotations. Acrobat seems to be the problematic software. I think it is fine to have /FileAttachment annotations for "method=normal" and /EmbeddedFiles for "method=hidden". Would be also possible that the entries in /Embeddedfiles use the value for "name" instead of "file" (when specified)? And for the /EmbeddedFile annotation, would it be possible to add the value for /Size entry (uncompressed size of the file in bytes, https://www.adobe.com/content/dam/acom/en/devnet/pdf/PDF32000_2008.pdf#page…) in the /Params dictionary? This is the way to avoid that Acrobat displays no uncompressed size but real uncompressed size (I guess both values would be very similar, when not the same). xml differences between old context and lmtx

Hi all, are there any documented differences between the xml features of normal context and lmtx? In a fun project I compile xml sources from www.deutschestextarchiv.de to pdf via context using xmlsetups which kinda works with normal context current version: 2019.08.09 18:29 With lmtx current version: 2019.12.12 01:08 I don't get a usable result. And there is a change in file naming I discovered. Files from the deutschestextarchiv have names like marx_kapital01_1867.TEI-P5.xml lmtx skips the TEI-P5 part Any hints how I can adjust my xmlsetups? juh

Adjust kern for one character

List, Is there a way in ConTeXt to adjust the left-side kern for one character? The cap J in the font I am using is being set too close to the preceding characters and I would rather not insert a thinspace before each. (Inserting a thinspace is sufficient, but finer control is welcome.) -- Rik
