Okay, I'll not be afraid in parading my ignorance in front of everybody. I see web2c configuration as a form of voodoo. Sometimes it works for me, but clearly my mental model is insufficient, because it really can surprise me, as well. I'm having some kpathsea issues on a new reinstall of gwTeX. in my texmf.cnf: TEXFORMATS = .;$TEXMF/web2c/{$engine,}// I'm trying to get xetex to find /usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf.local/web2c/xetex/cont-en.fmt, which exists. at the command line: atl% kpsewhich -show-path=fmt .:/Users/atl/Library/texmf/web2c///:!!/usr/local/teTeX/share/ texmf.local/web2c///:!!/usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf.gwtex/web2c///:!!/ usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf.tetex/web2c///:!!/usr/local/teTeX/share/ texmf/web2c///:/Users/atl/Library/texmf/web2c///:!!/usr/local/teTeX/ share/texmf.local/web2c///:!!/usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf.gwtex/web2c// /:!!/usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf.tetex/web2c///:!!/usr/local/teTeX/ share/texmf/web2c/// atl% kpsewhich cont-en.fmt /usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf.local/web2c/cont-en.fmt ...as expected. Is there actually a hard-copy book for ConTeXt? I am using the PDF, 300+ page manual, and it is rather difficult to continually navigate wtih a PDF viewer. I know I could print out the PDF document, but by the time I figure in toner cost and paper cost and the cost to bind it at a local shop, it would be worth it for me to buy a book. Somehow this message didn't make it to the list... Hi all, I want to use a custom font encoding (in my case, enco-agr for ancient Greek). I can't set it up for the entire document because it breaks, e.g., the output of accented letters. But when I try to use it for certain parts of the document only, it will insert a line break whenever it is used. So my question: is it possible to switch font encoding in mid-paragraph? Best Thomas

Hi all, for some time I try to generate small PDF documents that have no embedded fonts and do not reencoding fonts. In the meantime I was quite successful and I wanted to share my insights with others. Comments are welcome! I generated new ec-encoded virtual fonts for the standard Adobe fonts that are based on 8a-encoded raw fonts. In other words, I used afm2tfm with the TeX encoding set to ec and the postscript encoding set to 8a. (See below for a batch file that does this job). Then I wrote a small type script (smallpdf.tex) that defines the necessary font synonymes (see below). Finally I wrote a map file (smallpdf.map) that prevents the 8a-encoded raw fonts from being embedded or reencoded (see below). After all these preparations I can now generate PDF documents that use the builtin fonts. The following example generates a PDF document that is only 3389 bytes long whereas the corresponding document with embedding and reencoding is 112966 bytes long! Of course these numbers are not representative because the document contains only a few lines of text but uses 12 different fonts. Finally two issues remain: 1. In which situations is the call of "\usetypescript[adobekb][ec]" necessary. I had the impression that it is only needed if the document contains characters that are not containted in the builtin fonts. 2. I would also like to use the builtin symbol character sets Zapf Dingbats and Zapf Chancery. Adam Lindsay already showed how Zapf Dingbats can be used without embedding (cf. http://homepage.mac.com/atl/tex/) But is there also a possibility to use it without reencoding? under/over runs with odd and even pages

I am getting under and overruns when I define odd and even pages. The problem seems to be that when paragraph runs from and odd to an evne page, it retains its formating that it had on the odd page. And this is also true for a paragraph that starts on an even page and runs to an odd page. So if the odd page is really wide, and the even page is narrow, the paragraphs starts on the odd page fitting perfectly, and then when it starts on the odd page, it overflows. Likewise, when a paragraph starts on a narrow, even page, it retains its narrowness at the start of an odd page, producing an underfill. Microtype & ConTeXt question

http://mail.rna.nl/~gerben/microtype.tiff contains an image of a margin of a piece of text I just have typeset with ConTeXt. I was wondering about two things: 1. How does one set up the use of margi kerning in ConTeXt given that my ConTeXt (without me having selected it myself) uses Latin Modern? I have tried adding \usetypescript [serif,sans,mono] [hanging] [thanh] to my environment file. 2. If you look at the image (link above) you see that there is no margin kerning there. Also I was wondering if margin kerning would make not only the . protrude but also the slanted f protrude negatively. G

Line break after unit or \cite command

Hi! I have some problems using units or cite commands in combination with line breaks. Using: ... energies up to 3 \EVolt were measured .... will produce no whitespace between "eV" and "were" ... energies up to 3 eVwere measured ..... In order to get the space correct between the unit and the following word I inserted a "~" to ensure the space. But this will not force the line break between the unit and the following word when it is necessary. In that case hypphenation will be used after the first syllable. I encountered the same effect using the \cite command to reference bib-items but not to reference tables or pictures with the \in command. How can I create a space after the unit and have correct line breaking at the same time? Thanks Michael

Hello! OK, thank you for your answers to my questions. Now another bunch, this time I started reading the section on layout in the manual. When using \setuppapersize with one argument, does it imply that the default value of the second parameter is equal to the first one? If I use both, does it imply that the "smaller" page (determined by the second argument) is centered on the real paper (with size defined by the first arg)? Hello *, inspired by Gerben's question, I did some experimenting with \framed. I'd like to get A[text]B, where text is some long thing in a framed box like \framed[width=5cm] {\input tufte \par}. There are three different ways of aligning the three objects: (A and B on the same baseline as the first row) A We thrive in information- B ------------------------------- thick worlds because of our marvelous and everyday ca- (A and B in the middle of the box, not necessarily on the same baseline as a line in the box) criminate, distinguish, screen, A pigeonhole, pick over, sort, B integrate, blend, inspect, (A and B on the same baseline as the last row) from the chaff and seperate A the sheeps from the goats. Moving to ConTeXt

I am (again) considering moving to ConTeXt. A few years ago I investigated the move because I have apositive impression of the quality of the ConTeXt project and because I find the standard LaTeX layouts ugly. At that time I decided against it because the first thing I tried (a list within a list) did not work and because I was under the impression that I would have to do alot of layout myself (and I have TeX for that, right?). I am thinking of using LaTeX and the memoir class. Anyway, I am still tempted. So I am investigating again. I would like to know if (and how) I can do the following in ConTeXt. I did read the manual before writing this: - Project structure for a book, chapters to be in separate files. Chapters to be processed individually when required, or better: chapter + index/toc/appendices, etc. How do you do that? I do not understand the manual here entirely and my test from a few years ago failed. - lettrine.sty (I have my own TeX code now, but lettrine is probably better) - Page layout as in a book (no whitespace between pars and indentation). Good readable. - mfpic or another way to program drawings (vectors/functions) - microtype.sty (protrusion,probably no stretching) - Optional paragraph (not line) numbering, suppressable (as in some philosophy books) - 2 output options: - Final: Large paperback size (somewhat larger than pocket) pages centered on A4 portrait paper - Draft: Two of those pages,slightly shrunk on A4 landscape paper. No fancy ordering, just page 0-1, 2-3, 4-5, etc. So, how do I do these things? I would like to try to recode a part ofmy book-project in ConTeXt to see if it works for me. Thanks, G

I noticed a small translation bug: when using products/components with \version[temporary], the info about the product and component name at the very bottom uses untranslated (Dutch, I presume) names: "Produkt" instead of "Product" and "Onderdeel" instead of "Component". I installed linux in my pc box less than a year ago, and I see font files everywhere (X directory fonts, TeX directory fonts, TrueType, OpenType, Type1, etc...) but don't know if they are accessible from Context. what is the "local guide" you refer to? Wouldn't it be nice to have a command in Context like: \listavailablefonts [type1 | truetype | ... | all] or \listavailablefamilyfonts [] ... and another to check whether a font is properly installed (that is, whether it has \bf, \it, \sc, math, etc), like: \checkfont [fontname] Luigi, thank you. Greetings all, I've been having a lot of fun struggling with the installation of a newly purchased font, and wanted to double check a preliminary question before I give in and ask a more thorough question ;) I'm working with Mac OS X, so I bought a font-set with both Mac TTF and Postscript files. The Postscript folders have 2 types of file for each fontname: .afm and another without a suffix. The names also have uppercase letters, such as AndulBooBol (a.k.a. Andulka Book Bold). For the texfont script, it apparently needs the .afm files and .pfb files. Thus: 1) Are these non-suffixed files the .pfb files in question? If so, should I rename (add .pfb to) them before trying to install them? (I could convert the TTF files to .pfb?) 2) Should I take away the UpperCaseLettering as well? Rename them to something more Berry-like? In fact, I've tried these things with no success, but before I spell out the details of my failure I thought I would get this straight. bib module: placepublications inserts the first line of each publication

Hi! Some of my bib-items will have more than one line in the list of publications produced by \placepublications. The first line of the entry will always be indented by (probably) one character. The output looks like: Bal01 Balzert, H. (2001). Lehrbuch der Software-Technik - Software-Entwicklung. Spektrum Akademischer Verlag. Sch04 Schmidt, C. (2004). Entwicklung eines Datenakquisitionssystems für das Crystal-Barrel-Experiment zur Messung photoinduzierter Reaktionen an ELSA. Dissertation, Universität Bonn. Why doesn't this margin= have an effect?

I am trying to get the itemized lists to be indented the same amount as my paragraph first lines (small). I have been trying to get this by adding margin=dimension but whatever dimension I put there, the result is the same: nothing. Example: \startitemize[n,packed,joinedup][margin=-1em] \item All X are Y; \item All Y are Z; \item Therefore, all X are Z. \stopitemize What am I doing wrong? G

Hello! I have quite a few questions about ConTeXt (and more coming, I guess!). As a newbie, many things seem difficult for me. For now, the questions are: How does \part exactly work? I could see: messing with pagenumbers; part title not appearing; strange behaviour in eg backmatter... How do exactly front, body, back matter and appendices environments work? How do the system modes (*...-modes) work exactly? I managed to make \startmode[*interaction] ... \stopmode work, but what about the others "starred" modes? What are the possible parameters for the \setupoutput command? Sorry for asking so many things... some bib module questions

Folks, I am new beginner and have some rookie questions about using the bib module. 1. \setupcite[number][left=[, right=]] did not work. the citation still shows up in the text like (author, year) 2. either \completepublications or \placepublications wont show the publication list at the end of the paper without using \setup[pubs][criterium=all]. 3. \setuppublications[numbering=yes] fails to put a number before the publication list at the end of the paper. I got the most updated m-bib.zip from http://texaanhet.net/bib/ and copied those file to my local hard drive at ...\texmf\tex\context\m-bib\. Also I just updated my context to the new released version. By the way, I use pc and WinEdt. I probably made several mistakes. please help. thanks a lot. best, fei

Float numbering problem

Hi, since my Google search didn't bring up any solutions to this problem, I assume that this has not been reported yet. I'm trying to typeset a poster with more than one column and it occasionally happens that a large float (like a figure) precedes a small float (like a table). If the current column has so little remaining vertical space that only figure 2 would fit in, it includes them in reversed order. Which is not bad in principle, but unfortunately the floats also exchange their number. I included a minimal example with three tables and only one figure. The figure's caption reads "figure 3" while the last table is called "table 1". I am using gwTeX with beta ConTeXt (2005/03/03). I want to use \setuparranging, \setuplayout and \setuppapersize to do the following: 1. Page size is somewhere between A5 and A4 (large paperback book) 2. In draft mode: - Output pages are magnified (<1 factor) to a A5 size - Two pages on one A4 landscape - Ordering simple: (0,1),(2,3),(4,5) (2 shrunk-to-A5 pages on one A4 landscape) 3. In final mode - Output pages are centered on an A4 paper with crop marks I have tried to find information, but the orderings of \setuparranging do not include this simple ordering. G

Renaming spot colours

More questions! I'm using black plus one spot colour in a document, and I include PDF images generated in an external program (CorelDraw) which use the same spot colour. In the images the color is called 'PANTONE 294 CV', but I can't use that name for my colour in ConTeXT because names can't contain numbers or spaces. So in ConTeXt I define \definecolor[PantoneTwoNineFour][c=1,m=.56,y=0,k=.18] The end result is a file with two spot colour spaces instead of one. Is there a way I can combine them, either by a last-minute renaming, or a mapping, or a pre-process, or something? (I tried the brute force method of search-and-replace on the PDF file but there must be binary-encoded references to the names as well as ASCII ones, because that broke the file.) Any help as ever greatly appreciated. Duncan

Quote before chapter?

I would like to have a right-aligned quote before the chapter header. newbie question about fonts

Okay, this business of fonts/files/names/encoding/etc is really difficult to understand for me. I have a simple question. How do I list all fonts I have available to use in ConTeXt in the machine/system I have? Is there a file where I can see the names of all these fonts? And is there a template file or a command to display the entire set of characters once I know the name of fonts? FYI, I use ConTeXt with Linux Fedora Core 3. I appreciate your help Ciro

xecontext/bibtex issue ?

I suppose that, as usual, I am missing something obvious or simple. However, AFAICS it hasn't been discussed recently and isn't mentioned on the XeTeX wiki pages, so... What is the procedure for invoking bibtex as part of a "XeConTeXt" process ? I can't get this to work. If I run: texexec --xtx myInputFile first, then texexec stops after generating the xdv. This *always* happens with any input file containing citations, but *never* for input files w/o citations. (I'm assuming that texexec expects bibtex processing before generating a pdf since the xdv is full of unknown refs ? ) The problem is that bibtex "can't read" the .aux file that is generated by xextex. (This is a general case for all of my test files, all of which run fine as vanilla LaTeX and ConTeXt variants (haven't tried XeLaTeX, but don't need it anyway).) I can't run bibtex on my input file first obviously. Do I need to do something (seemingly crazy) like this: 1. "context" 2. bibtex 3. [modify input file preamble] 4. "xecontext" Or maybe there is a custom bibtex command for such situations ? ? wtia, mark.

I read and tried all the solutions that Hans and you found out up to now. But as soon as I set \enablemode[activecolon] \usemodule[tryout] in my local cont-sys.tex I am back to 8 runs again (either with Patrick's patch or with your line in .profile). Do you experience the same (or did I use the wrong .profile here on Mac)? This would mean that, when using ffr, we either have to ignore all this unknown reference outputs or fall back to 8 runs :o( Or does someone already has a solution covering both bugs? Steffen

cutspace and backspace

What does cutspace actually do? I have the following layout: \definelayout[chapThree][ cutspace=20mm, % the space on the right hand side of the page leftmargin=35mm, % the space for margin notes backspace=50mm, % the space in the left hand side of the page rightmargin=25mm, % the space for right margin notes width=fit, ] I thought that cutspace would create a non-writeable area on the right hand side of a page. But the above layout uses the backspace value of 50mm and seems to ignore the cutspace value. It also seems that I was wrong about the fucntion of backspace. Backspace is actually the area from the edge of the page to the body text. So it equals the the margin area plus the edge of the page. indenting list items.

I have a multilevel set of itemized lists but I want to reduce the indentation because it takes up too much room. In other words instead of 1. foo a. fubar * bar I want spacing like 1. foo a. fubar * bar So I put this at the head of my document: \setupitemize[packed,serried,atmargin][indentnext=no,align=left] Since I don't know which parameter affects which dimension, I used them all. None of them seem to do what I am looking for. The space between items disappeared but that was the only change. Second question: The definition of \setupitemize seems to use three sets of square brackets but \startitemize seems to only use two. So, at the \startitemize level, which paramaters go in which set of braces? Hi Hans (and all), I have difficulties with [force,here] floats. Even if such floats are something a bit degraded, they occured in publication text and they should be handled correctly. I am sorry I do not send a minimal example, but the minimal example from me would be XML + XML mapping + some included tex files and styles; and these together are really not minimal example... By tweaking into \OTRONEdocheckiffloatfits, I found there is the line: % new per 31/5/2004, should be an option, only one column mode which creates \goodbreak. But I seems to me this \goodbreak should be generated only if there is a room for the float? It the room is not here -- which leads to float save -- the break causes unexpected page breaks. For second -- it seems to me the checking of room for float in described case counts the float size twice -- the float is counted inside \pagetotal of page material pending from the overfilled page 1 and for second its dimension is counted again with second call. For third -- the described behaviour saves float even if it can be correctly placed in currently filled page, so the float is pulled up from [force,here] positioning and it starts flow -- but this is not proper behaviour for such float. As a result, IMHO (which can be completly bad, I really do not known all the consequencies and mechanisms of ConTeXt) it should be corrected using following way: 1. \OTRONEdocheckiffloatfits (and maybe another OTR routines) should respect the float is [force,here]. For such floats the routine *always* should set \roomforfloattrue and *not to* generate \goodbreak, as [force,here] floats should be left to be placed by normal page builder TeX mechanism. 2. \goodbreak in % new per 31/5... block should be generated only if the float is placed -- if it is saved, the break corresponding to the float should not appear without the float. 3. maybe implement the option for \goodbreak :-) But there I cannot say more, because I do not know the primary motivation. Apart from my reference numbering problem with the bib module, everything was working OK. So, I decided it was time to have a go with "XeConTeXt". Hi all, I used a one-page pdf like background image. The size of paper is A4 (210x297mm). The size of my pdf image is a little bigger (220x311mm). Bad page breaks!

Dear ConTeXt-users, I'm trying to typeset a small book using ConTeXt (TeXLive 2004), and use the following setup: \setupbodyfont[rm,12pt] \definepapersize[BOOK][width=140mm,height=210mm] \setuppapersize[BOOK][A4] \setuplayout[ [topspace=24mm, header=8mm, headerdistance=10mm, backspace=19.5mm, leftmargin=15.5mm, rightmargin=23mm, footerdistance=5mm, footer=4mm, height=fit, width=fit, marking=on, location=middle] Page breaks are usually calculated automatically by TeX, but I notice that in my case they turn out to be very bad. A lot of pages are involved, so I wonder how this can be improved? Sometimes even 3 lines could be added without any difficulty to a page by TeX before inserting a page break! The following code (tested at contextgarden) illustrates my current problem: -- \definetextbackground[TestBackground] [leftoffset=1em,rightoffset=1em,topoffset=8pt, bottomoffset=8pt,frame=on,location=paragraph] \starttext \starttextbackground[TestBackground] Some text first, which behaves perfectly, and then a table: \vbox{\bTABLE \setupTABLE[column][1][width=0.3\textwidth] \setupTABLE[column][2][width=0.7\textwidth] \bTR\bTD I was hoping\eTD \bTD that this table would make itself narrower according to the background offsets, like the text does. But it doesn't.\eTD\eTR \eTABLE} \stoptextbackground \stoptext -- The key is in the spec for column widths. I would like all the widths to be specified proportionally, but I need the right hook. I have tried \textwidth and \makeupwidth but neither seem to recognise the offsets introduced by the background. What I'd really like is a generalised solution, so that all tables just work no matter where they occur. So - is there a parameter which represents the current width of the layout area, taking into account itemisations, textbackgrounds and anything else? Thanks. csr fonts in last ConTeXt

Good evening. A couple of days ago I have reinstalled my computer and installed the newest ConTeXt as well (TeXExec 5.2.4, ConTeXt ver: 2005.01.31). I found that it could work under SuSE Linux 9.2 -- teTeX distribution. But I also found that there is a change with csr fonts -- it is (at least in the Czech interface) substituted with cmr fonts. What's the reason? How could I change it againt to csr? (cmr fonts don't have accented letters.) Many thanks for your help. Your sincerely Michal Kvasnicka

Make a border around every page.

Some time back Hans provided a rather elabaorate macro that put a bevel type frame around a page. Now I am looking for something much less elaborate for an entire document. I wish to surround each page with a simple rectangle. perhaps 1 point thickness. The frame would be inset from the paper edge perhaps 3/8 inch on all four sides. The text would be set with margins of perhaps 3/4 inch all around on letter size paper. Can this be done simply? Dear fellow conspirators, I have a book chapter that is to be published in an edited volume of a philosophy series by Springer/Kluwer, but the typesetter could not recreate the transliteration symbols needed. So the editor has just asked me to typeset the article for them. My chapter is the only thing holding up the publication of the book. I need two things very urgently: 1. Setups for Times New Roman (is there a Type1 version that comes with TeX?); 2. I need to replace my footnotes with (aargh!) endnotes. Is there a simple way to do this? I have reinstated the automatic update of the TeX ConTeXt-updater i-Package, which will again automatically be updated when Hans Hagen updates his ConTeXt (stable or beta or both). The package offers choice between ConTeXt and ConTeXt beta (when available) on install. G PS. For NTG-ConTeXt: i-Packages are a software install mechanism for Mac OS X only. For most of you, this will be a very cryptic message I guess. I'll be posting this only once to NTG-ConTeXt. People interested in using i-Installer to keep their TeX up to date on Mac OS X may get their info from the Mac OS X TeX mailing list.

Extending into the margin

I have a double-sided page layout with mirrored margins. For certain displays (tables, etc) I would like to place a box such that it will extend into the margin. At the moment, just by making a box the width of the textarea + margin, I can get what I want half the time :-) - it always extends to the right, and on half of the pages that is what I want! Of course the trick is the other half. If I explicitly move the boxes left, then the right-hand pages stop working properly. And I'm in a batch workflow so I can't know in advance what page a box is going to land on. So I guess I need a hook into the double-sided margin settings somehow? I haven't managed to find anything that looks relevant in the docs, so thanks for any help! Duncan dh(a)capdm.com

Thanks Adam for the suggestions on the wiki page. You point out that I can use \definelayout for odd and even pages. I assume I can use this command in place of \setuplayout? I had a problem using \definelayout. I found that I had to use a \setuplayout before my text, or the first page would not get formatted. Is the ConTeXt code right below? Unexpected changes with pdfeTeX 1.20 (?)

Hi, while looking closer at the result of typesetting an older (Nov. 2004) document with todays pdfeTeX and context stuff I noticed that the layout of my TOC changed: Normally I write all setups in a SetupEnvironment file that is loaded at the beginning of a project structure. Like this: \startproject WLTHR_1 \environment SetupEnvironment_WLTHR \startfrontmatter \component Kapitel/Titelei \component Kapitel/Vorwort \completecontent \stopfrontmatter \startbodymatter \component Kapitel/Kap_1 \component Kapitel/Kap_2 \component Kapitel/Kap_3 \component Kapitel/Kap_4 \component Kapitel/Kap_5 \stopbodymatter \startbackmatter \component Kapitel/Katalog \component Kapitel/Literatur \stopbackmatter \stopproject But as in SetupEnvironment also \setupindenting is set, now the TOC gets this indenting too! Once (2004, before pdfeTeX 1.20 ?) this didn't affect the generated \completecontent - only the real \component files. Is this change known? Are there more differences like this, so one knows what to look for when typesetting older documents with new TeX (ConTeXt?) files? Fixed spaces & overfullrule

Dear listmembers, I have two questions tonight: 1: Is it possible to define and then use different kind of fixed and non-breaking spaces in ConTeXt? For something I am working with I need 1/8th of an em, 1/4th of an em, and 1/3rd of an em - but would ideally want to be able to define any kind of fraction of an em. 2: Is it possible to have the overfull rules printed out in the margins? In the last days, I played around with some truetype fonts, preparing them for use with ConTeXt by creating tfms via the texnansi encoding. Some of these truetypes have expert features embedded into their glyphs. texnansi automatically takes care of integrating the "ff," "ffi" and "ffl" ligatures. In order to extract small caps and old-style numerals, I created a modified texnansi encoding. controlling blank pages at end of part

How does one control headers and footers at the end of a part, such as a chapter? There are two scenarios I am trying to figure out, one in which the the blank pages at the end of a part have headers, and one in which they don't. I can't figure out how to do either. Instead, I am getting a mixture of headers and non headers. First page in first part. \page Second page in first part. \page Third page in first part. \page[quadruple] \setuphead[part][header=high, page=right] \part{} This gives me two empty (no headers) pages, followed by a page with a header, followed by the first page in the next part. If I replace \page[quadruple] with \page[blank], my last page in the previous part loses its border. I can do: Third page in first part. \page \page[blank] But then the first page in the next part loses its headers. I suppose there is a way to turn the headings off for a page or two? \page \setupheader[state=stop] \part{} \setupheader[statue=normal] % this code also does not work! Listmembers, I have also done the following since the first e-mail: - Copied the contents of "texexec.rme" to "texexec.ini" - Uncommented the "set TeXShell to miktex" line in the new "texexec.ini" file. - Added the string "C:\texmf\miktex\context\perltk" to the PATH (however, there is no "context" or "perltk" folder in the "miktex" folder. setting up even and odd pages

I'm confused on setting up even and odd pages. If I wanted to set up a chapter with the first page one way, and even and odd pages another way, how do I do this? Say the first page must start on an odd page. The right margin will be 1 inch. Now the each succeeding left (or even-numbered) page will have a left margin of 1 inch. The right margin (the inner part if it were in a book) should be 1/2 inch. For the right (odd-numbered page), the left margin (the inner part if it were a book) should be 1/2 inch, while the right, outer margin should be 1 inch. TeX run : 8 (vs. 2 ?)

Hi, a ConTeXt document that is typeset under WinXP needs 2 runs. The same document (and the same typescript, map files, font files) when typeset under OSX (Gerbens i-installer used) needs 8 runs!!! Each time it is typeset! For the result looks the same I assume it's a kind of bug. Anybody knows what to do? Thank you, Steffen
