Hi everybody, I still have pbs for this (begin to be) hard to achieve task (compared of unziping mswincontext.zip on a :\C drive...) 1) I can't succed in adding executables to the path, with my various tryies, here is my .bash_profile : if [ -f ~/.bashrc ]; then source ~/.bashrc fi export PATH=/usr/local/teTeX/bin/i686-pc-linux-gnu:/usr/local/teTeX/bin/i686-pc-linux-gnu:/usr/local/teTeX/bin/i686-pc-linux-gnu:/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/sbin:/usr/sbin:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/bin/X11:/usr/games 2) emacs+ auctex nor scite (installed before : maybe a reinstall ?) are not context aware, so I can only texexec via the terminal 2) is texmfstart working on linux ? PS : when everything will be fine, (tetex3 install, same .pdf results between mswincontext and tetex3, scite linux integration (hard to change editor now), i'll add this to ubuntu wiki section TIA, olivier

ConTeXt logo

All (and especially Hans...), where is \CONTEXT (the logo) defined? Looking at the output I get, I wonder if it doesn't need a bit of kerning between Con and the following T; there's quite a gap between these two letters (at least in the font I'm using). Thanks and all best Thomas

page numbering

Hello list, How could I reset the page number counter? I can't find that information neither on the wiki nor in the manual. I would like to have a title page without a page number and that the page that follow has the number one. I can say to context not to print the page number on the page title but not reset that counter (and the page that follow begin with the number two...) Thanks alot for your help -AJ

A person on the internet needs help using FarsiTeX, a bidirectional typesetting engine for Farsi and English. It only runs on LaTeX 2.09. If the same task were approached in Context, what would he need to do beyond the regular Context stuff? Are there documents he should read? Hello, I would like to ask a couple of questions about frames and numbers in math formulas. 1. What's the best way to frame a formula like here: \placeformula \startformula \mframed{x^2+y^2=z^2} \stopformula The problem is that: - formula number is shifted downwards in comparison to the formula without a number - I don't know how to do the settings (frame color, frame offset) globally. There's no \setupmframed[...] command. It's probably possible to use a sort of \setupframed[whatever_setting_influencing_only_mframed], but I don't know how. 2. What's the general strategy when doing evel stuff with formula numbering? I would like to use \eqalign and then number formulas like on the following example: z^2=x^2+y^2 (1) =(x'-x_0)^2+(y'-y_0)^2 % no number =R^2\cos^2(\phi) (2) Can I somehow number the formulas (1), (2), (3.a), (3.b), (3.c), (4), (5.1), (5.2)? I would like to manually provide where to start and stop numbering with x.a or x.1, x.2. 3. How can I put more than one equation in a row and number all of them (as if they were placed in three columns)? 4. How can I move the formula number one row lower in case that the formula is too long and if it would overlap with the formula number otherwise? Thank you very much for any help, Mojca

GNU Emacs/ AucTeX configuration for ConTeXt

Hi all, Is there someone using GNU Emacs with ConTeXt. After some googlelyzing, I've learnt : 1. ConTeXt mode from Berend de Boer is now included in AucTeX 2. Some people use Emacs with ConTeXt and METAPOST, but with special .el files that seems not really up-to-date I didn't found usefull information to configure properly AucTeX in order to work well with ConTeXt and METAPOST, even in the auctex mailing list. It's ok for the menu (apparently managed by site) but I don't have syntax highlighting except for comment and indenting doesn't work well. So, my questions are: 1. Since there is a ConTeXt mode, I suppose there is some advanced features like syntax highlighting and indentation rules. Am I right ? 2. If I'm right, how to configure it ? 3. I will use METAPOST in my .tex files, how to manage this within Emacs ? 4. You know advanded features I must know ? ;-) I'm sorry but I'm addicted to Emacs and don't want to use Scite even if it seems ConTeXt-friendly. I'm aware of the fact that this mail is more Emacs/AucTeX related but since I didn't succeed in finding answers yet I submit this issue to the ConTeXt community. Best regards,

bibtexing problems

Hallo, I've started to add bibliography to my documents. Now I have some questions: 1. How can I handle multilanguage bibtex files (entries in German and English)? I'm writing english texts but I need to cite german documents and in all german references all capital letters are trasfered to small ones. 2. How to encode glyphs/german umlaute (öäüß) in the bibtex file? It seems that I can not use utf for that. 3. I have in the bibtex field: "comment = {genauere Analyse des Papers nötig!}," some comments. They are added at the end the individual reference. Is there a possibility to suppress this field? 4. is there a way of citing by bibtex key? (to get (Hameury2005) for the entry @ARTICLE{Hameury2005,...)). I think that is nice to have during writing the document and only to change this in the final version. Many thanks Wolfgang

enco-pfr.tex - support for Adobe Acrobat

Hello Hans, Taco and others! I would like to know how the "enco-pfr.tex" module works and how to properly use it. Besides of other languages, I also typeset documents in Czech. The search doesn't work (in recent Acrobat 7.0.5) for particular Czech letters (e.g. č,ž etc.). If I try to search for a simple letter (e.g. "č") it stops on every word containing "č", but also "c". If I try to search for a whole word (e.g. "počítač"), nothing is found. :-) I've followed the instructions posted on http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Encodings_and_Regimes and in the mailing list thread linked from that page. So I tried: \input enco-pfr \useencoding[pfr] \startencoding [ec] \usepdffontresource ec \stopencoding \setupbodyfont[lbr]% I have typescripts for Lucida Bright fonts, the Czech is typeset OK \starttext A testing Czech sentence follows: Příliš žluťoučký kůň úpěl ďábelské ódy. \stoptext Later I've found out that: - \input enco-pfr is already done in context.tex - \startencoding [ec] \usepdffontresource ec \stopencoding is already done at the bottom of enco-pfr.tex - so it seems that the only command I should issue is: \useencoding[pfr] BTW, in the Czech format (cont-cz.tex), I have defined: \setupencoding[default=ec] Doesn't it collide with the \useencoding[pfr] command later in the document? It makes sense to give such structures a bit different layout from a normal itemization. Why does $\bfmath a \rightarrow b$ % b-f-math behaves different from $\bimath a \rightarrow b$ % b-i-math In the first I get a bold arrow, not in the second one. In bfmath the symbol font switches to bold, but in bimath it does not. The variables do change correctly to bolditalic in both cases.. Is the symbolfont in the mathfamilies not switched in \bimath? For the font (Lucida) I have normal and bold symbol definitions installed: sy=MathSymbol mo 1, \definefontsynonym [MathSymbol] [LucidaNewMath-Symbol] sybf=MathSymbolBold mo 1, \definefontsynonym [MathSymbolBold] [LucidaNewMath-Symbol-Demi] I did set \setupformulas[method=bold] in the preamble and verified that \boldfacemathmethod has the value 1. Inspection of font-bfm.tex did not give me the solution. I must confess being lost here. As an aside another observation with bold math. After: \setupformulas[method=bold] \startformula[method=bold]\bfm .... the call to \bfm makes \quad's in the math disappear (using lucidabright font setup) And in the default font (no fontsetting) \bfm even gives an error ! \textfont 7 is undefined (character !). \stopdisplaymath ->\stopinnermath $$ \ifgridsnapping \egroup \afterdisplayspa... yours sincerely, dr. I clearly have some misunderstanding about the typesetting of the euro sign. In an attempt to implement the MathTimes font and expert fontset, I came across a problem with typesetting the euro. I could not redefine the \texteuro. In \showcharacters it stays empty. Doing \definecharacter texteuro to_some_value in a typescript does not work (giving: Runaway argument?) The euro does appear when I define it explicitely (as coming from the marvosym font): \def\euro{\symbol[europe][EUR]} But then \texteuro is still unaffected and therefore doing "\enableregime[mac] € (euro)" does not work. In the Lucida fontset there is a regular series in lbma (or hlcra), and a bold series in font lbmad (or hlcda). As I understand from the current code, switching from regular to bold should be accompanied by a switch from Blackboard to something like BlackboardBold in the command \bbd (from the sources I guess \bbd in font-ini.tex is the most basic macro here). The problem is that \bbd is defined as: \def\bbd {\mathortext{\fam\purefamily {blackboard}}{\symbolicfont {Blackboard}}} Thus the font is hardcoded to regular Blackboard. I have no idea what should be the best strategy to repair this. As for now, the most general mechanism for switching to other/bold math fontfamilies I could find is using \bfmath (and friends). The font needed is in one of the math font registers, of course, so something like {\ma CNRZ} instead of {\bbd CNRZ} will do for now. But this low level code makes the TeX-source explicitely dependant on the font, because for example in the AMS-series these characters are found in msmb then needing {\mb CNRZ}. Is there some generic solution here? CALLIGRAPHIC There is a similar problem with $\cal ...$ It is defined as \def\cal {\mathortext{\fam\purefamily{calligraphic}}{\symbolicfont {Calligraphic}}} I definded a font synonym "Calligraphic" but ConTeXt does not seem to use it in math mode. The calligraphic symbols appear to be taken from the sy (symbol) math family instead of the Calligraphic font. It is a problem, because in the MathTimes fonts the calligraphic letters are in another font (mtms and its bold companion). Typesetting ${\cal XYZ}\hbox{\cal XYZ}$ gives the wrong characters (coming from the symbol font) in the first XYZ, the correct letters in the second. How can this be solved? yours sincerely, dr. 'empty string' test in MP

Hi all, I pass a string to a MP graphic using \setMPtext{LABEL}{TEXT}. The string can also be empty, and then no action (for the text) is taken. How can I test in MP, if the given \MPstring{LABEL} is empty? I have tried everything I can imagine in the last one hour, but no success. Not my day... This is the old, not working version if not(\MPstring{LABEL}="") : % is always true. Peter

Building and installing pdftex 1.30 on teTeX 3.0

I've followed the instructions listed at http://wiki.contextgarden.net/TeTeX_3.0_installation, but it won't quite give. The problem is that I use the Gentoo installation setup as a base and have the latest ConTeXt installed in /usr/local/share. Does anyone know what options to pass to pdftex's configure-script to match the setup on a Gentoo system (where stuff is stored in /etc/texmf and /var/lib/texmf)? Do I have to also do an updmap or enable or some such thing? 2. I note that on my office system, /usr/local/teTeX is owned by root:wheel. But done in my fonts directory, some files are owned by darnolddarn:admind and some by root:admin. Could this be a problem? Hi, I 'reorganized' (split) the beginners manual and put it in svn, so anyone who is willing to translate can check out a copy. I didn't yet change anything (only the file structure etc) and the styles need a cleanup (more modern setup). Because each chapter now has its own file, we can (as suggested on this list) edit piecewise. Don't start yet. First we need to add/remove things and rewrite chapters. BLACKBOARD There is a problem with the Blackboard symbols, when used in regular and bold forms both. In the Lucida fontset there is a regular series in lbma (or hlcra), and a bold series in font lbmad (or hlcda). As I understand from the current code, switching from regular to bold should be accompanied by a switch from Blackboard to something like BlackboardBold in the command \bbd (from the sources I guess \bbd in font-ini.tex is the most basic macro here). The problem is that \bbd is defined as: \def\bbd {\mathortext{\fam\purefamily {blackboard}}{\symbolicfont {Blackboard}}} Thus the font is hardcoded to regular Blackboard. I have no idea what should be the best strategy to repair this. As for now, the most general mechanism for switching to other/bold math fontfamilies I could find is using \bfmath (and friends). The font needed is in one of the math font registers, of course, so something like {\ma CNRZ} instead of {\bbd CNRZ} will do. But this low level code makes the TeX text source explicitely dependent on the font; for example in the AMS-series these characters are found in msmb, usually ending up in \ma. Is there some generic solution here? CALLIGRAPHIC There is a similar problem with $\cal ...$ It is defined as \def\cal {\mathortext{\fam\purefamily{calligraphic}}{\symbolicfont {Calligraphic}}} I definded font "Calligraphic" but here ConTeXt does not seem to use it in math mode. The calligraphic symbols appear to be taken from the sy (symbol) math family instead of the Calligraphic font. It is a problem, because in the font I am using the calligraphic letters are in another font. Typesetting ${\cal XYZ}\hbox{\cal XYZ}$ gives the wrong characters from the symbol font in the first case, the correct letters in the second. How can this be solved? yours sincerely, dr. No partial contents for parts after the first

I'm using the latest ConTeXt reported here, and I'm noticing that partial contents for the second, third etc part are not available. I have a bunch of files each of which goes like \part{some part} Some text (not always) \placecontent \chapter{some chapter} Each of this file is \input from the master file. However, only in the first part you actually see the (part-specific) content: every other part reports system : part,chapter,section,subsection not found/processed The setup for the contents is as follows: \setupcombinedlist[content] [interaction=all, partnumber=no, alternative=c, level=subsection] \setuphead[part][alternative=middle,placehead=yes,resetnumber=no] The problem is the 'resetnumber': if I take that off, everything works perfectly. -- Giuseppe "Oblomov" Bilotta

Drag and Drop and Authenticate on the Mac OS Tiger

Gerben et al, I am worried about an ownership problem in my texmf.local tree in GWTeX. I get this iwona font, then drag the folder doc/fonts/iwona from the download to /usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf.local/doc/fonts using drag and drop and finder. I am asked to authenticate and I do so. Opening a terminal window and checking the result, I find: fonts $ ls -l total 0 drwxr-xr-x 8 root wheel 272 Nov 20 19:59 cm-super drwxrwxr-x 14 darnold wheel 476 Nov 27 19:27 iwona See how the result is owned by darnold:wheel? Is that gonna cause a problem? Should it be changed to root:wheel? Would it be OK to change to /usr/local/teTeX/share and then as root: chown -R root:wheel * Or would this be a bad idea? Linux binaries

I just foolishly downloaded the 2005-11-16 linuxtex.zip minimal linux distribution and copied it on top of my previous one, and I now discover that the binaries are linked to a more recent version of glibc than I have on my linux box. Eek. I will clearly need to update the linux machine in due course, but does anyone (a) know if the binaries from the previous zip will work as a stop-gap, and (b) happen to have a copy of the previous linuxtex.zip (or the binaries from it) available for download? Choosing a font for our Math Book

This component section1 compiles fine and gives me (checking in Acrobat Professional) a combination of latin modern and computer modern fonts. However, they hardly match in size. The computer modern font is much larger than the text in latin modern font. So, a couple of things. 1. If I wanted to try and see if this would compile with my Lucida fonts, what should I try. 2. Do you have a couple of suggestions for body font and math font that would look good together and can you provide me with the font instructions to include them in my document? I would be grateful. Hans, Taco, Gerben, et al, With the new release of Context, it looks like you have the same: --ro=TEXMFMAIN I've attached my type-tmf-gw.dat and the type-tmf-gw.log that resulted from a run with: sudo texfont --encoding=ec type-tmf-gw.dat I did this by dropping type-tmf-gw.dat in ~/tmp/. The first time I ran it with: sudo texfont --ma --in type-tmf-gw.dat That got the texnansi encoding. I sent that file previously. David

Taco et al, There was some discussion before this current release about including more tmf files. I downloaded the latest cont-tfm.zip, but see no evidence of more tmf files. Is that still a future project? I updated Context via Gerben's updater and I just installed the Latin modern fonts from Gerben's site about a week and a half ago. Should I be good to go for a while? Hans, Taco, et al, I think it would be a good idea (possibly saving you a lot of list answering time) if you put a README file in each manual directory. This could contain instructions such as: 1. Which is the main file to compile. 2. Some font handling instructions. Maybe a reminder of what to do with texfont and type-tfm.dat on different systems. User would be handy in getting this right. 3. Or, as font setups head to an environment file, maybe alternate environment files could be provided to get a plain vanilla no other fonts other than what is supplied with cont-fnt.zip. Hopefully, other on this list can come up with other suggestions for the README. I've just named a few that I know will help me. David

Disappearing characters in \typefile

For my current e-book project I use \typefile to import some TeX files as examples. The syntax is color coded which is very useful. Unfortunately on my screen at least the % character is in yellow so faint as to be unreadable. So I dug into the source code and discovered that the name for this color is colorprettyfour. I changed it thus: \definecolor [colorprettyfour][r=..8, g=.4,b=.2] This gives a light brown which is not pretty but at least is readable on my monitor and hopefully on others. John Culleton

Referencing in Project Structure

All, I have: project book in book.tex environment bookenv book.env.tex product chapter1 in chapter1.tex component section1 in section1.tex component section1 in section2.tex component section1 in section3.tex In each section, I would like numbering of theorems, definitions, examples, equations, etc, to be consecutive and include the section number as a prefix. For example, if a theorem happens to appear first, then number it 1.1, the next three equations (1.2), (1.3), and (1.4), the next two examples 1.5 and 1.6, the next two equations (1.7) and (1.8), the next definition 1.9, the next theorem 1.10, the next three equations (1.11), (1.12), and (1.13), the next example 1.14, etc. Then this numbering scheme is reset in the next section. So, if the first thing to appear is a theorem, then it is numbered 2.1, the next definition 2.2, the next three equations (2.3), (2.4), and (2.5), and so on. How do I set this up in bookenv? David

And the list goes on. These don't seem correct at all. Am I misusing this tool? I've been following the discussion on the beginner's manual with interest, biding my time to make my suggestions, thinking about it. One thing that really comes to mind is the huge amount of time I spent as a beginner trying to figure out what settings in the layout, like those above, actually do. And I found the tools for analyzing changes to these layout settings did not help very much. Something that could help the beginniner's manual very much would be a macro that layed the page out accurately with borders around the various areas (as in \showframe) that include all parts of the layout, even if they wander from the printed page. This would accelerate the learning curve for layout dramatically, if it were available. David

Hello, I would like to achieve this kind of typographical effect: two text blocks, one of them aligned to the left margin, the other with left-aligned text but with the right margin at the right margin of the page. I can obtain each of them with for example the following: \defineframedtext[lepi][align=raggedright,width=fit,offset=0pt,frame=off,location=left] \defineframedtext[repi][align=raggedright,width=fit,offset=0pt,frame=off,location=right] Now, I want them to be "at the same height". This release contains a small surprise, mainly created by Thomas A. Schmitz. When you install it, you can use (automatically unpacked) Apple fonts Hoefler Text, Didot, Optima, Baskerville en Gill Sans in PDFTeX. Setups for LaTeX and ConTeXt are provided. For this to work you need to have fondu installed. When fondu is installed, the fonts are automatically unpacked into the gwTeX tree during configuration (currently after install only). Hi all, I am currently typesetting a collection of articles that use a great number of unicodeglyphs from 19 vectors. All the regular glyphs turn up fine, but I am unable to get the bold and italic versions of the glyphs. I have made encoding files for all the vectors using the xsl- scripts from Adam Lindsay and installed them via texfont. The sourcefile is an xml-file with decimal-unicode-entities that are mapped to the \uchar command by the \defineXMLentity command. Hi, I'm presently doing my first steps with Context, which seems absolutly wonderfull... so thanks to the developper(s). In the past, I was using plain tex with a macro package called DraTex to draw all sorts of things; so I have a "library" of figures which I would like to resuse in Context. I have seen no specific reference in the Context manual(s) about the compatibility of Context with others plain tex packages. When I do: "\input DraTex.sty \input AlDraTex.sty" I have the message "No room for a new \dimen"... If I load only the first package (DraTex), this works, but for advances things, I need AlDraTex. Hello, does ConTeXt have something which is halfway between itemizations and descriptions? I have a small set of properties that should be enumerated together. Right now I'm doing it by defining a \description and then doing \desc{something} stuff \par \desc{something else} other stuff \par etc However, this is an overall cumbersome syntax, especially for the result I would like to obtain. using \startitemize ...\stopitemize with \sym{something} \sym{something else} comes *very* close to what I would like but I can't seem to find a way to prevent the \sym text to wade into the actualt text of the description. Moving close to Lucida but still not there

Hans, Taco, Adam et al, I dropped all of my lucida pfb and afm fonts into a temporary directory, ~/tmp/lucida. Change to that directory and entered: texfont --ve=yandy --co=lucida --ma --in Log file is attached. I was able to compile the resulting texnansi- yandy-lucida.tex. Progress. However, when you look at the log file you will see some "skipping" of the math fonts, certainly not what I want, being a mathematics teacher. For example, font identifier : LucidaNewMath-Arrows -> math -> skipping use supplied tfm : lbma font identifier : LucidaNewMath-Arrows-Demi -> math -> skipping use supplied tfm : lbmad I looked in type-buy.dat and found: # bh lucida --en=? --ve=bh --co=lucida --re --en=? --ve=bh --co=lucida --so=bh/lucida --ma --in --expert Is the fact that I didn't use that --expert switch my problem? How can I get texfont to not "skip" the math fonts? David

Can texexec enable write18 at runtime

All, In GWTeX, I could turn on write18 here: % Enable \write18 (run shell processes from within TeX job) % Set to t if needed % (I think this might have security implications, especially if you % run tex jobs as administrator, so I keep it turned off by default shell_escape = f But, because of security, I am wondering if I can leave this as is and use texexec to enable write18 at runtime. utf8 editor problems

hello, I have a problem which is not directly related to context. When I create document in utf-8 I sometimes get "ïz£" (I hope this is displayed correctly in the mail clients, (a screen snapshot is attached also)) printed on a single page (in the pdf). These letters are not displayed in my standard text editors (scite and notepad++). Only when I open the file in amaya (a xhtml editor) I see these the following letters "ï»¿" and I can delete them. I mentioned this earlier but had only now time to look into it: there appears to be a bug in newtexexec, it bombs out when I try to post- process pdf-files. The mswintex.zip and mswincontext.zip files on www.pragma-ade.com, dated 2005-11-16, are missing the kpathsea355.dll file from <root>/tex/texmf-mswin/bin. I discovered this while trying the URW Garamond installation instructions in the wiki, and the texfont command failed running vptovf. The kpathsea355.dll file was in mswincontext.zip that I downloaded at the beginning of September, so I copied it from there to my minimal (re)installation (and successfully completed the URW Garamond installation instructions). For future reference, is this type of issue better tracked in the collector? Regards, Adrian Drury

You can get it here: http://tex.aanhet.net/bib/m-bib-beta-20051123.zip News compared to the previous beta: * 2 new styles: - bibl-num.tex: c.f. plain.bst - bibl-ams.tex: AMS style (from Giuseppe) * fix the "hash marks" bug * fix the vertical spacing issues in the bib list * add interaction to \cite[url] * allow a defaulted \setupcite * renamed citation type 'number' to 'serial' * better definition of \inverted...author * don't reset [numbercommand] in \setuppublications by default * don't disable other \setuppublications keys if alternative= is present also (removes the need for doubling the \setup command) * drop the \sanitizeaccents for \cite (making accents work again) * added \nocite and \cite[none] Bugs that are still present: * internal links (\crossref field) are broken (workaround: \nocite[<crossref-ed entry>]) * items with missing years will break the compressed form of \cite[authoryear] and \cite[authoryears] * there is no interaction yet for most types of cite (but \cite[url] should work, as well as \cite[num] when compression is turned off) Hope I didn't forget to mention anything. I'm just trying to modernize and enhance my old typescripts and reckognized that -- and --- become inactive (i.e. don't become endash and emdash, but stay dashes) with the SIL Gentium font (or at least with my typescript). How can that happen? And what can I do? I'm using the latest gwTeX (ConTeXt 2005-11-17). The typescript is attached, but I don't think the bug is in there... Paper size, MediaBox, CropBox and cropping

Hi all, Does anyone know if it is possible to force the PDF output from ConTeXt to contain both a /MediaBox and /CropBox, having set up a document in the following manner: \definepapersize [BusinessCard] [width=85mm,height=54mm] \setuppapersize [BusinessCard] [A5,landscape] \setuplayout [location=middle, marking=on, header=0mm, footer=3mm, topspace=0mm, leftmargin=0mm, rightmargin=0mm, width=85mm, height=54mm, backspace=0mm] When I look at the PDF output I can only find the following box definition: /MediaBox [0 0 595.2756 419.5276] which works out to the size of the A5 sheet (595pt ~= 210mm, 419 ~= 148mm). Math typescript question

Hi all, I have created a typescript for one of that defines the Utopia expert font along with a few others and tries to make use of the Fourier math font. The use of my own 'Utopia' typescript is largely historical but it is also that the default one with ConTeXt seems a little off (missing headline/display but defines some variants that Linotype is unaware of?). In any case, below is what I have to define the math section but I'm getting some rather strange results with it. In particular, I'm not getting the correct sized parantheses when using '\left(' or '\biggl(' and math accent characters (i.e. '\hat' and '\dot') are not above the character, but in the middle of it. I don't really know if this is the best way to define a math font within a typescript but it seems to get me most of the way there. NB, it is based on some of Adam's Euler typescript. All, I've used svn to download the manuals and I'm in the font manual directory. Hans et al, OK. I'd like to start with mfonts.tex. I am working with GWTeX on Tiger and have just updated to all of Gerben's latest stuff, so I am as current as I can be with that distribution. I do have Ruby on this Mac. So, hold my hand and and guide me through the compile stage. The first problem, as I see it, is to get the expected organizational tree for these manuals For example, in mfonts.tex, we have: \environment ../allkind/mcommon.tex So, should I do some sort of cvs thing and check out all these manuals and documents? Setting up items...

HI all, I have a rather long sequence of items in which each one is numbered with a right stopper, a right parenthesis. Items numbered from 1) to 9) are correctly aligned and what I want is to have items 10) to 12) (for instance) be aligned in the same way, that is: (9) item number 9. (10) item number 10. (11) item number 11. (12) item number 12. in other words numbers above 10 should protrude to the left, not to the right (see the minimal example below). I am sure at some point in the past I solved this issue but I cannot find anymore how... Can anyone give insight? Another, secondary question, is: how can I make the items be numbered like: (1) item one (2) item two that is numbers are enclosed between parentheses? [BIB] nocite / criterium=all

Small problem with bibtex. I have (in a document different from the one I mentioned before) \setupbibtex[database={mrabbrev,bilotta}] \setuppublications[alternative=ams,criterium=all] but when I do \placepublications[criterium=all] I get nothing. If I \cite[something], that something gets included. How am I supposed to place all the publications without citing anything? BTW, you may also want to introduce the \nocite command, which adds something to the publications list without actually citing it in the text. Taco, I hardly dare bring this up, but the latest beta release of your module appears to break something that worked before: the wonderfule \cite[extras={}][key] doesn't work. When I have this: \cite[extras={.5}][hoekwater] I would expect, with my setup, [10.5] but instead, I get [hoekwater] in the typeset version. Sorry for bothering you again. Thanks and best Thomas

Dear ConTeXt users, i am trying to typeset correctly proofs in a document. I tried to use the following definition : \defineenumeration[preuve] [location=serried, headstyle=slanted, text=Preuve, number=no, after={\hfil\QED}] It's almost what i want, but there's a slight problem. The command after executes itself after a newline, so, the QED symbol is typeset at the line after the end of the proof. What i'd like to have is the qed symbol at the end of the last line of the proof. Any insight on how i can do that? Thanks

Gerben, Taco, OK, I am using Gerben's Context Updated with a beta, so I think what's running is the context in texmf.local. I have two type-tmf.dat. lm $ locate type-tmf.dat /usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf.local/context/data/type-tmf.dat /usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf.tetex/context/data/type-tmf.dat lm $ Does it matter which of these I use? Before I run "texfont --encoding=texnansi --batch type-tmf.dat," two things: 1. How do I figure out whether to set TEXMFMAIN or TEXMFDIST? That is, how can I tell where these environment variables point? 2. I could cut and paste in type-tmf.dat, but can I do it with one line in the file type-tmf.dat somehow? bibtex: crossref / van

Dear friends, I noticed that the crossref instruction in my bib file does not work. In the documentation are no clear clues. I changed InCollection --> InBook and vice versa. I tried putting the referenced book before and after the referencing item in the bib file. In fact, a reference does appear (between brackets), but the title referenced to is not printed. I read in the archive Taco's advice of putting \setbox\scratchbox={\hbox{\placepublications}} before \completepublications, but Context stumbles at the setbox command. 2. I also have problems with sorting author names like Van den Heuvel. Under Latex I used \noopsort, but this does not seem to work under Context Does anyone have a clue? Kind regards, Robert
