Dear list, I have the following sample: \setuplinenote[location=text, paragraph=yes] \starttext \startbuffer \startlinenumbering[step=3] \dorecurse{25} {a\linenote{b} } \stoplinenumbering \stopbuffer \getbuffer \placenotes[linenote] \stoptext I cannot compile it. ConTeXt complains about "\placenotes[linenote]" being undefined. Is there something I’m missing or have I hit a bug? Many thanks for your help, Pablo

context manuals -- absence of \definefontfamily

Dear all, I've come back to using Context and I noticed the nice manuals around -- but one thing I miss is \definefontfamily (and \definefallbackfamily). There is info here: https://wiki.contextgarden.net/Use_fonts_distributed_with_ConTeXt and then checking out the specific page: https://wiki.contextgarden.net/Command/definefontfamily It still baffles me that definefontfamily, though much simpler than typescripts (which is intimidating), is not mentioned in the beginner's manuals (unless I missed something) and neither is it given more prominence in the Wiki, although I often see it mentioned in the forums. Being used to fontspec's simplicity, I'd never use typescripts. It would help a lot, for example, to include a sample of "definefontfamily" in "Use any font you like". Is there a reason why definefontfamily doesn't appear at all in the manuals (as far as I could see), which are rather comprehensive otherwise? All the best and thanks again for everything.

how to place getmarking[title] in header instead of getmarking[chapter]

Hi all, I know how to put the current chapter in the header. But how can I also put the value of \starttitle in the header. In this mwe the \starttitle command does not modify the header. Hi, This is probably simple, but I cannot combine the right keys to get it to work. What is the correct way to get the last line, "The last foo", to automatically be placed below the second table? I've tried to implement some sort of affiliation description with local notes. I'd like them to be either in a single paragraph or in columns (e.g., 3), but the options `serried` or `n=3` don't seem to work for text notes (they do work for notes at the bottom). I've tried to implement a journal-like footnote with the authors' affiliation for each section/chapter, by adapting things from the wiki here <https://wiki.contextgarden.net/Table_of_Contents#Author_in_ToC> and here <https://wiki.contextgarden.net/LaTeX_Thanks>. However, one thing that bugs me is that any note name I choose other than "thanks" does not work, and I have no clue why. Am I missing something, or is there a more elegant way to implement this? As an aside, I'd rather have the footnotes below the "thanks" notes. Dangerous bends symbol in manfnt.afm accidentally chopped by LMTX?

Hi list, using this example from the wiki, the dbend symbol appears cropped on the left side on my machine (ConTeXt ver: 2021.12.10 11:41 LMTX fmt: 2021.12.14), but not on the ConTeXt live server? aligning Malayalam horizontally across column

Hi, I am trying to prepare a moderate sized document in Malayalam using Context. Overall I have been successful. However, there are a few rough edges for which I need help. This is the second problem I face. I have some 300 group of short sentences placed in five columns using \startcolumns[n=5] \input aCharTable.tex \stopcolumns The aCharTex generated by a shell script contains the 300 plus commands with the structure \tfa{ \bold{variable} \par (12 - 0.13) } \blank The problems are that - a) the group, with the two short paras get separated into different columns and sometimes pages. How can I prevent that? In other words, how do I tell Context that this should be treated as cohesive unit? b) The horizontal space doesn't align across columns. This probably is because the different conjuncts in each of these lines have different heights. How can I ask Context to treat each of these cohesive units as having the same height? Thanks, ajith

Asking context to switch to a different font for a single character in many places

Hi, I am trying to prepare a moderate sized document in Malayalam using Context. Overall I have been successful. However, there are a few rough edges for which I need help. This is the fifth problem I face. Is it possible to instruct Context to use a font in general, except for a single character? I want to show the space character with open box,␣ U+2423. However, the font doesn't have that character. The open box character shows up in many places within an otherwise Malayalam text. So, switching font is not possible. For the time being, I am using a substitution. However, I would like to know if it is possible. Thanks, ajith

Getting ONE, TWO... for chapters

Am typesetting a book that has 'STUDY ONE', 'STUDY TWO' etc. in place of CHAPTER ONE, etc. I have no difficulty getting 'STUDY' with \setuplabeltext[chapter=STUDY~], and I can achieve 'STUDY One' with the key conversion=Words in \setuphead[chapter]. My question: how do I get ONE instead of One. I tried conversion=WORDS (or WORD), but that is not recognised and the output then becomes STUDY 1, which I don't want. I also tried playing with \definestructureconversionset[myconversion][ ,A,] then adding the numberconversionset=myconversion to \setuphead. There must be a simple way to achieve the desire result, and to be honest I'm wondering why WORD does not work? Any thoughts? Julian

Dear list, I have the following graphic \startuseMPgraphic{TitleGraphic} draw outlinetext.b (\MPstring{TitleText}) (withcolor "titlefg") (withcolor "titleoutline"); \stopuseMPgraphic which I tried to use as follows to produce a stylized 'title' head: \setupMPtext{TitleText}{% \starteffect[stretch]\bfc\namedstructurevariable{title}{title}\stopeffect} \useMPgraphic{TitleGraphic} [colors "titlefg" and "titleoutline" are set using \definecolor] But, the 'stretch' effect caused by \starteffect[stretch]…\stopeffect does not work with 'outlinetext' method in the MPgraphic. I have verified that the desired effect is produced using 'textext' method instead. But in that case I have to cheat (i.e draw twice; once with blownup) to get the text outline. Now, if I write instead \setupMPtext{TitleText}{% \kerncharacters[0.15]\bfc\namedstructurevariable{title}{title}} \useMPgraphic{TitleGraphic} then the desired effect is produced. As such, my purpose is served well by using \kerncharacters. Nonetheless, I request your kind help in understanding why this is happening and/or if I am doing something wrong. Thanks, kauśika

This is the fourth problem I face. One character, ഼ U+0D3C, when used in \footnote[഼ ]{the foot note}, overlaps with the footnote number. Malayalam conjuncts

Hi, I am trying to prepare a moderate sized document in Malayalam using Context. Overall I have been successful. However, there are a few rough edges for which I need help. This is the first problem I face. When I use the font RIT-Rachana from https://rachana.org.in/, my preferred font, one set of conjuncts are not formed correctly, while the rest are formed properly. The conjuncts that are not formed correctly are those where the second component is ര U+0D30, followed by a symbol that is shown on the right side of the conjunct viz ാ U+0D3E, ി U+0D3F, ീ U+0D40, ു U+0D41, ൂ U+0D42. If no symbols follow, or symbols follow on the left or on both sides, the conjunct is well formed.In the minimum working example given 5 is well formed, while the first conjunct in 6 is well formed and second ill formed conjunct. The conjuncts are well formed when used in Libre Office with the same font. Also, other fonts, for example, those from smc.org don't have this problem. Unfortunately, they don't support all symbols. One of the developers of the font thinks that this is probably a bug in Context. Two questions on enumerations/indentation

Hi, I have two questions: 1) What is the correct way to indent the first line of a (serried) enumeration? In the example below, I can use headcommand, but then I do not know what I should replace "1em" below to fit the medium indenting. 2) I miss a numberstyle. What is the correct way to (in the example below) get Remark in italic and the number upright? /Mikael \defineenumeration[remark][ alternative=serried, width=fit, text=Remark, headstyle=italic, indenting={yes,medium}, %headcommand=\groupedcommand{\hskip 1em}{}, ] \starttext \samplefile{tufte} \startremark This line should be indented. Table of Contents Header?

I am playing around with imitating the design of fiction books from the early 20th century. The table of contents for these books often has small headings, 'CHAPTER' (or 'CHAP.') and 'PAGE' over the respective columns. How might this best be accomplished in ConTeXt? Is it possible to use the Unicode superscript and subscript parentheses as superscript and subscript operators? That is, ⁽…⁾ having the same function as ^{…}, and ₍…₎ as _{…}. Hi, I pploaded a new lmtx (no rpi 64 bins yet, one can pick these up from the build in a few days). Apart from a few fixes (older side float issue, some recent special rule related things) the only new thing is 'low level anchoring'. More can be found in ontarget.pdf (ontarget-anchoring.tex). I am using \index{} to populate \placeindex (an index) with items. I am wondering if there is any syntax that allows one \index{} command to define more than one entry, for example, something like this: \index{presidents+Lincoln, Abraham; Lincoln, Abraham} The result is two appearances in the index: LLincoln, Abraham Ppresidents Lincoln, Abraham Is there some syntax for making this possible, without calling \index{} multiple times? --Joel

In order to fix a few bugs in some OpenType features included in EB Garamond font provided by Google Fonts, I am trying to remove some ligatures (erroneous in some contexts) with fonts.handlers.otf.addfeature. I must be missing something, because I can't get it to work. Here is a minimal —non working—example :-) (The attempted removal (“f_i” → “fi” only before “o”) is of course irrelevant. I chose it just for the sole purpose of this test, to provide a simple example. Why are endnotes not working with ConTeXt-SBL?

I am using the ConTeXt-SBL package for citations. I need to move my footnotes to the end of each article. According to the manual, I can suppress the placement of footnotes using two lines of code. I've added these to my minimal working code, placing \setupnote[footnote][location=none] in the header and \placenotes[footnote] where I want the endnotes to appear. Errors in source files return success

Hi! ConTeXt can detect issues in the sources and report them on the console with the argument --errors or with \enabledirectives [logs.errors]. The return value is still “0” (=success) even with errors present. Right now I use a script that parses the log file and lets me know if a run has issues. However, it would be great if context could return a non-zero value if errors are present. I've found that \enabledirectives [logs.errors=missing characters] returns “1” if characters are missing. Lovely! Undefined control sequences always return 1 (a TeX thing I believe and not related to the macro package). But undefined control sequences don't show up on the console as the other errors do if general output (except errors) is silenced e.g. with context --silent --noconsole --nostatistics --errors <file> The question is, what other directives can be enabled that make context return a failure? Is there a way to return failure if *any* error is encountered or do they need to be enabled each individually? And is there a way to show hard TeX errors as undefined control sequences as a “possible issue” if output is silenced? Hi, When wrapping up before the weekend I uploaded a new lmtx (bottom floats fixed afaiks, but hat mechanism might see some improvements anyway next year; exit codes more reliable; some low level tracing; side float coming loose from section head issue solved; ...). I'm experimenting with some more efficient low level state info and in the process ran into an issue / interference with (also low level) attributes. I'm not sure if I solved it (work in progress, i need to run into another border case first which may take ages) but the test suite runs ok so ... Dear Hans, I installed the new upload and compiled “helloWorld.tex” created Sanjoy Mahajan. It runs well except the dummy figures are not appeared in the pdf output. However, I still got error message when try to compile “\startcolumnset … \stopcolumnset”. fonts > 'fallback modern-designsize rm 12pt' is loaded mtx-context | fatal error: return code: 1 The terminal process "zsh '-c', 'mtxrun --autogenerate --script context --autopdf --purge '/Users/graph/Library/Mobile Documents/com~apple~CloudDocs/texMain/exit11.tex''" terminated with exit code: 1. Setting table of contents depth by number rather than by list

Dear list, Is it possible to set the maximum table of contents depth to a number rather than providing an explicit list of section names? Background: I am developing an exporter for Org mode. In Org, users can specify the number of levels they want in the table of contents with a number. I currently do this by having the sectioning commands be known to the exporter so I can generate a command like \setupcombinedlist [content] [list={section,subsection}] for n=2. I'm considering using \start/stopsectionlevel for sectioning commands instead. That way, users could add \definesectionlevels to the document preamble to use whatever sectioning scheme they wanted. However, this would mean that the exporter wouldn't know what sectioning commands to use the TOC setup. Thanks, Jason

Why are back-to-back \autocite commands not working in ConTeXt-SBL?

I am using the ConTeXt-SBL module to handle the citations in my article. Using the plain \cite[na2006] command has worked fine. But there are some situations where I want the footnote to include page number details. I tried using \cite[extra=2][na2006], but that doesn't seem compatible with ConTeXt-SBL. I checked the documentation, and if I understand correctly, I should use the autocite command to add page numbers to my citation? Like this: \autocite[{\loc[2]}][]{na2006} This solution works in 95% of cases, but when I need to cite another book immediately after that, it throws up errors: This won't compile: \autocite[{\loc[2]}][]{na2006} \autocite[{\loc[2]}][]{clark1989} This won't compile: \autocite[{\loc[2]}][]{na2006}%% \autocite[{\loc[2]}][]{clark1989} This also won't compile: \autocite[{\loc[2]}][]{na2006}\autocite[{\loc[2]}][]{clark1989} After much trial and error, I found this will compile: \autocite[{\loc[2]}][]{na2006} \autocite[{\loc[2]}][]{clark1989} The problem with this last example, is if my citations appear within the paragraph, then I end up with a paragraph break in the wrong place! No pagebreak before chapter

Dear all, if I don't want pagebreaks before a chapter, I can do this: \setuphead [chapter,title] [style=\tfb, align=center, number=no, after=, page=no, sectionsegments=chapter, header=empty] In my project this does not work. All chapters start on a new page. What can I do to debug my code? I search for "page=" or "pagebreak" but found no configuration that can cause chapters to insert a pagebreak before. Displaying names in Chicago-Turabian "note" style

I could not find any existing solution for using Chicago-Turabian "note" style in ConTeXt, so I have started my own attempt. Chicago-Turabian uses footnotes to display the author's details on the same page, but also uses a bibliography to display an alphabetical list of the sources again at the end. The footnotes display somewhat differently each time a source is shown. The first time a source is cited, the footnote contains a long, detailed reference. Subsequent reappearances of the same citation are abbreviated somewhat. And "ibid" is used when the source is cited twice in a row. The bibliography entry contains really detailed information, similar to what was shown in the first footnote, with minor differences. This code uses three macros: \turabian, used only the first time a source is reference, \shortturabian, used for subsequent references of the same source, and `\ibid, for when a source is referenced twice in a row. Each of these macros simply creates a footnote, showing the author's details, and also uses \nocite to make sure an entry is added to \placelistofpublications. Page details are optionally added in #2, and this information only appears in the footnotes. I am having trouble getting the code to display the author's names correctly. Every attempt ends with strange results, like "FirstLast" with no space or just "Initial Last". Chicago-Turabian displays the names differently, depending on the placement: (1) First, the \turabian macro should show in ordinary First + Last order in the footnote, example: "Anna Burns, Robert Smith, and Judith Green", but if the number of authors exceeds 3, it display "Anna Burns et al." (2) Second, the \shorturabian macro should show just the Last names in the footnote: "Burns, Smith, and Green", also using "Burns et al." if there are more than 3 names. (3) The \ibid macro doesn't show any names. (4) Finally, the actual bibliographic entry in \placelistofpublications uses a strange format, with the first author listed as Last + First order, all subsequent authors in First + Last order, such as "Burns, Anna, Robert Smith, and Judith Green.", meanwhile "et al." is never used in the bibliography, even if there are 100 authors. MP: problem connecting paths.

Dear list, I have a problem connecting path with the operator « & » (page 16 Metafun manual). The problem is illustrated by the code (and the joined PDF) which follows. I draw random cycled forms (left part of the figure) and when they interact, they are modified to « fit together » (right part of the figure) . When building these new forms, I connect paths (usually two or three depending on position 0 of the path); the last point a path is the same as the first point of the next path ; for exemple, to modify the blue circle, named « circleA », I take the circle A from P1 to P2, then a segment from P2 to P1 and cycle to have a closed path. So I should be able to do : newcircleA := circleA cutbefore P1 cutafter P2 & (P2 -- P1) & cycle ; The « & » operator is supposed to work (if I understand correctly) in this case, but I have this error message : "! Paths don't touch; `&' will be changed to `..’." Which I do not understand since the paths « touch ». There was a similar question last year, without a clear answer (« METAPOST subpath rounding issue »https://www.mail-archive.com/ntg-context@ntg.nl/msg94294.html). A solution is to ignore the repeating points : newcircleA := circleA cutbefore P1 cutafter P2 -- (P2 -- P1) -- cycle ; but this new shape has 9 points instead of 7. The problem is that I do these operations a number of times, and the length of a path (in the number of points) is increasing and cause trouble when I look for intersections with others shapes. I have a need to use a logo graphics file several times in a document. I somethings need to update to a newer graphics file. I only want to make one change to the original variable value definition. I've tried using \define.. but it's not working for me. Hi! I'd like to follow up on a problem that Denis came across recently with the titles argument in tabulate. (It's more a solution than a question, but any hints to improve the answer are welcome.) I wanted to use this argument for an easy specification of, well, a title for a "recipe". The advantage is that all information is held together and it's easy to use for people who are not (too) familiar with ConTeXt. Archlinux: updated BPKGBUILD for luametatex

Hi all, I am changing the way modules are installed in the ArchLinux aur package for luametatex. https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/luametatex/ Earlier, I was just sym-linking to the modules installed by context-minimals-git package (which I also maintain). However, some packages there were out of date (in particular pgf/tikz). The new PKGBUILD installs the modules directly from CTAN. The following modules are installed by default: filter, vim, visualcounter, pgf, pgfplots, circtuitikz You can install other modules by adding them in the PKGBUILD. I am not sure if anyone else actually uses this PKGBUILD to maintain an up-to-date installation of LMTX. If someone does use it, and wishes to add more modules to the default list, I'll be happy to do that. Aditya

Syntax highlighting using LMTX

Hi all, There are a few technical hurdles with using the t-vim module in LMTX. First, users need to install the module using externally defined shell scripts. Second, it's awkward to communicate to users how to install it, especially for Windows users. Third, it likely requires installing vim, as a separate step. Fourth, making general-purpose XML setups that optionally rely on syntax highlighting when it is an optional install is a little laborious. If installing a module was as easy as "install.sh --module=t-vim" then that would leap over most hurdles. Although there'd still be a dependency on installing vim. Of course, it'd be pretty sweet if ConTeXt itself could automatically install the necessary module when encountered (or provide a command-line option to grant permissions to do so), but I understand that that would be a hefty undertaking. Dear John, Nicola, I created a file context.vim under the folder ~/.vim/after/ftplugin/ which contains map <C-h>><Esc> :w<CR>:!ConTeXt<CR> let g:context_mtxrun = 'PATH=$HOME/ConTeXtLM/tex/texmf-osx-64/bin:$PATH mtxrun' let g:tex_flavor = "context" The result is 1. using “:ConTeXt” issued an error message: “E492: not an editor command: ConTeXt 2. using “make” issued an error message: "No targets specified and no makefile found. …" Pressing C-h, compiling started and succesfully ended. However, it use /usr/local/texlive/… not LMTX tex folder. Without context.vim, “:ConTeXt" and “:make" worked fine. I’ll do more test. Thank you. Best regards, Dalyoung

TeXWorks and synctex

I'm having trouble getting the new synctex to work on a Mac. I've completely re-installed MacTeX and TeXWorks and synctex works fine for LaTeX documents. But for ConTeXt no combination of magic lines etc will work for me. The symptoms are... nothing - no errors but no synching, either way. Q1: is there a log file created somewhere or a debugging flag that can be turned on which will tell me what is happening when I try to jump from PDF to editor or vice versa? Q2: Is this the same error as reported at the bottom of https://wiki.contextgarden.net/SyncTeX ? Or has that been fixed? PS: \enabletrackers[system.synctex.visualize] works as expected - i.e. the .synctex file seems to be correct. — Bruce Horrocks Hampshire, UK

Hi, I am not trying to install tikz related modules from ctan rather than copying them from the minimals. Hi, This time the lmtx upload has a (for some maybe) interesting new features: runtime pdf encryption. context --ownerpassword=foo [--userpassword=bar] [--permissions="see context --help --expert"] One can also use the document banner line, like: % ownerpassword="foo" userpassword="" permissions="print,extract,quality" Now, this is a feature that relies on the viewer to deal properly with it as we only support the not depricated method (why bother with the old stuff). acrobat : it took some effort (and trial and error) to make that one happy but it seems to work ok summatra : the one i use, it works ok in the latest greatest (i use 3.3.13418) mutool : okay but sometimes with a warning (i have a workearound but not enabled it because i consider it to be a bug) qpdf : happy but check gives a permissions warning (understandable as that is a real mess) firefox : opens ok in the latest version (pdf.js) chrome : can't handle the revision level we use (the rest is depricated so i consider it a lack of feature for now) edge : idem okular : my (windows) version is too old xpdf : not up to it yet foxit : (i never use it, but tried ... it's code seems to be what is used in chrome) doesn't work with this revision I would be surprised if the native apple viewer works but I can't test that. Given earlier pdf threads, I wanna check with Michal Vlasák what can be improved. Performance is okay, the luametatex manual takes 1% more runtime and that's within the runtime measurement margin that I use. I didn't test with external images yet but will do that so don't expection yet. It will probably take a few months to reach a stable state anyway. (But ... afaiks tikz pdf generation, which is also somewhat alien to context, seems to work). Initial release of SBL bibliographic rendering and biblio wishlist

A while ago, I mentioned in a thread on the mailing list that I was working on a new bibliographic rendering for the SBL citation style. After additional testing and implementation of various features (e.g., an authorconversion that inverts the first author and prints all subsequent authors in normal order, an author-title sort order for bibliographic entries, support for shorthands/abbreviations, support for Citation Style Language locators, and support for biblatex-style citation macros that intelligently move punctuation that follows them). While optimizations for performance, simplifications of the code, and new feature additions are still desirable, the module is in working condition and can now be incorporated in a future ConTeXt update. The new .lua and .mkvi files for the SBL rendering, updated publ-aut.lua and publ-imp-author.mkvi files, and some new code intended to be incorporated into publ-ini.lua and publ-ini.mkiv can all be found in project GitHub repo at the https://github.com/jjmccollum/context-sbl. While I worked on this module, Denis Maier (who provided valuable feedback and suggestions throughout) and I put together a wish list of new features we would like to see implemented in the publications support core modules. We put together the list with Hans and Alan in mind, but any help is appreciated! The list follows: - Probably the most urgent need is for field inheritance mappings through crossrefs to be fixed. These should be customizable in bibliographic specification .lua files (e.g., publ-imp-sbl.lua), or at the very least, they should follow the pattern of biblatex. As it is currently implemented, field inheritance seems to map any field from the cross-referenced entry to a field *of the same name* in the current entry if it doesn't have a field of this name already. But this causes serious problems when one needs to check if an entry has a given field (such as "shorthand") at all; specifically, the \btxdoif macro will execute its argument if the current entry *or any entry it cross-references* contains a field with that name. What we want is a more disambiguated mapping of inherited fields: for many common entry types (such as @book, @collection, @reference, @proceedings, and @inbook, @incollection, @inreference, and @inproceedings), biblatex maps the title field of the cross-referenced entry to a different-named field in the lower-level entry (e.g., maintitle -> booktitle -> title, maineditor -> bookeditor -> editor, etc.). - A mechanism for setting default field values (e.g., "pagination", "options") by category in the .lua file for a given specification. (In the SBL spec, for instance, an entry of category @ancienttext or @classictext should have options={skipbib=true} by default.) If the user actually specifies this field in an entry, then the default value would be overwritten. - If it hasn't been done already, the \btxdoifelsecitedone macro defined in the cont-new.mkiv file in https://github.com/jjmccollum/context-sbl should be implemented in publ-ini.lua and publ-ini.mkiv. - Related to the previous entry, the ability to remove existing entry tags from the "collected" or "tobesaved" lists defined in publ-ini.lua. This would allow us to override the usual list registry rules of \cite based on the values of, say, an entry's category, "type" field or "options" field. - General support for the useauthor, useeditor, usetranslator, skipbib, and skipbiblist entry options from biblatex. These could be implemented as citation-level btx options (currently, useauthor already is implemented for the SBL style). - Support for disambiguation in "author" citations made with the "name" authorconversion. Publications support already allows us to map different versions of the same name (e.g., "John Doe" and "J. Doe" to a single value. But ideally, the publications support module should also check if surnames are shared by distinct authors, and if so, it should then check for distinct first and middle initials, and then distinct full names, until it finds a difference. The shortest distinct renderings should then be used for the "name" authorconversion. Different bibliographic renderings have different rules for this, so implementations of these different rules (detailed at https://docs.citationstyles.org/en/stable/specification.html#disambiguation) would be ideal. - General support for *ibidem* (same entry), *idem* (same author), and *op. cit.* (same title) tracking in the publ-ini module. These could be implemented with default settings that could be overridden as needed in individual specifications. Following biblatex, the user should be able to specify yes/no "ibidtracker", "idemtracker", and "opcittracker" options via \setupbtx. The publ-ini.mkiv file already defines macros like \btxdoifsameaspreviouscheckedelse, \btxdoifsameaspreviouselse, and \btxdoifcombiinlistelse to help with this sort of thing in the bibliographic list, but we'd like something analogous for inline citations. Specifically, we'd like a way to retrieve (or compare) the tag, author, and title of the last entry cited in the current mode (where the mode may be in the main document or a footnote/endnote). A further \btxsetup option could control how locally the tracking should be done (i.e., if the trackers should reset at the start of a new chapter, new section, new page, etc.). In addition, it would also be good to copy the \mancite command from biblatex, which manually resets these trackers when it is invoked. - General support for CSL locator macros, whose basic usage is described in https://pandoc.org/MANUAL.html#citation-syntax. The citation style locales defined at https://github.com/citation-style-language/locales have been defined for various languages already, and their printed renderings can be implemented according to individual specifications (perhaps using the language-dependent \setupbtxlabeltext macro). A template for this can be found in the SBL rendering at https://github.com/jjmccollum/context-sbl. - ConTeXt might benefit from a predefined parenthetical delimitedtext environment similar to "quotation" and "quote". Currently, I define such an environment in publ-imp-sbl.mkvi as follows: ``` % Nested parentheses (used for things like publisher and institution blocks) should alternate between proper parentheses and brackets \definedelimitedtext[paren][quotation][location=text,left={(},right={)}] \setupdelimitedtext[paren:1][left={(},right={)}] \setupdelimitedtext[paren:2][left={[}, right={]}] \setupdelimitedtext[paren:3][left={(},right={)}] \setupdelimitedtext[paren:4][left={[}, right={]}] ``` But a general environment of this nature (perhaps supporting alternating parentheses/brackets to arbitrary depth?) may be useful for other citations styles and more general typesetting purposes, as well. - Per a discussion I had earlier with Hans, a language-specific mechanism for moving trailing punctuation after a \quotation or \quote block so that it is inside that block (in accordance with "American" punctuation rules) would be helpful. - The ConTeXt distribution should be updated to include the authortitle sort method in publ-aut.lua and the invertedfirst authorconversion setups in publ-imp-author.mkvi. These are already defined in the copies of these files in the sbl-context GitHub repo. - Optimized implementations in the ConTeXt core for the following macros, some unoptimized versions of which are defined in publ-imp-sbl.mkvi (at https://github.com/jjmccollum/context-sbl) - \doifprefix, \doifprefixelse, and \doifnotprefix - \doifsuffix, \doifsuffixelse, and \doifnotsuffix (the \btx_sbl_doifendswithpunct macro is a more specific template for this; if you think the punctuation-specific macros would also be useful in general, then they could be implemented in the core, as well) - The "\clf_" macros mentioned in the "NOTE FOR HANS" near the start of publ-imp-sbl.mkvi should be accessible through exposed helper functions. Many of these features (and some others that are specific to the SBL rendering) are marked with "TODO" notes in publ-imp-sbl.mkvi. I'm getting ready to start my PhD research in a few months, so I don't expect to have as much time to develop the SBL rendering in the near future, but I can try to patch things up as needed if anyone runs into any problems in the near-term. (If the current font contains an uppercase ß that would be even better, but those are rare). Hi, I was wondering whether we have tests similar to <if-else if-else> or <switch case> in context's xml processing. (And even in context more general...) I have found these doifelse tests, but elseif doesn't seem to exist. Is that correct? If yes, could that be added? Of course, you can always just nest doifelse-constructs, but that will become ugly quickly. Being able to specify multiple branches would be handy. Best, Denis

Dear all, I made an exam form by the help of the experts in this list. However, it was not working after recent update. Here is a code which I made for the test. Hi, a new upload - some keywords renamed in the engine and therefore more split between mkiv and lmtx (hopefully i included all files) .. if something doesn't work any more it might be because i missed a rename. - i finally decied that it does make sense to have native loops at the primitive level (after all, metapost as macro language also has them) and although much is possible in macros it doesn't mean we have to do it the (often ugly and showing-off-by-abusing-side-effects way). We have just a constructor: \unexpandedloop 1 100 1 {.} and a fully expandable one for e.g. use in \edef: \expandedloop 1 100 1 {.} plus an also fully expandable one for anywhere but with potential side effects (out of order local loops): \localcontrolledloop 1 100 1 {.} complemented by a few status primitives (integers, use \the or \number to serialize them): \currentloopiterator \currentloopnesting and a quitter that aborts at the next iteration: \quitloop as usual it's experimental for a while. Among the rationales are 'less tracing clutter', 'performance' and 'more natural primitive tex coding' (but that one is personal). Blank lines discarded when \typing

First, \typefile produces what I'd consider the "correct" result, where the double-spaced lines appear on the page as a double-space. Both the \typebuffer and \typing commands ignore double-spacing. The double-spacing is also ignored by \xmldisplayverbatim. How would you configure to give \typebuffer, \typing, and \xmldisplayverbatim to honour double-spaces the same way as \typefile? Second, of lesser importance, is that the blank lines aren't numbered. This makes the line numbers inconsistent with respect to IDEs. How would you label all blank lines as well? Out of curiosity, does the second issue relate to the first? Thank you!

Hi, (1) See previous mails on the list (those who requested it have to wikify): - mixed bars (with limitations) - horizontal registers (flushing) (2) As a side effect of reshuffling some code (as well as being complete): - \boxshift 0 = 10pt - hbox shift -10pt{...} These box shifts are what \moveleft, \raise etc use as well as some internal constructors like math. (3) Because there is no reason for a limitation to rules and boxes we can now also do: - x\cleaders \glyph`! \hfill x where as usual \glyph taking some options. (4) A few internals that users are unlikely to encounter (unless they mess with weird tokens in lua). Hopefully no bad side effects of all this (and if so, easy to solve).
