Next Problems: texexec.ini is not found in 'context\config' I copyed it in 'scripts\context\perl' now it is found. 'texexec --verbose' tries to compile all the files in the aktuel path. but 'texmfstart texexec.pl --verbose' works ok. same with 'texexec --make --all' doesn't work but 'texmfstart texexec.pl --make --all' works! formatfiles will generatet under '.\pdfetex' relativ to the aktual path. new module: streams

Dear all, as you may have seen in the lates release notes, ConTeXt has a new feature: we have now streams for even and odd pages that can be synchronized at certain points. This is useful for, e.g., typesetting bilingual books: have the original on the even pages, the translation on the odd pages, and synchronize at certain points. I was very tenacious about it, and Hans has been characteristically generous with his skills and his time and has implemented something. I'm sure if some of you are interested, we will be able to refine it. I am uploading a pdf-document displaying this new feature to our institute's website. Due to the system our university uses, it may take until tomorrow until it's really visible at http://www.uni- bonn.de/www/Philologie/Personal/Schmitz/Dateien.html It's a bilingual (Greek-German) edition of a number of Greek texts for my lecture course next semester. It's not perfect, but it shows how powerful this new feature is. Have a look at it; if anybody is interested in seeing the source code, just contact me, and I'll be happy to send it along. Just a very brief explanation, if you want to try this at home: In the module, Hans has suggested a few shortcuts to using it, so I have in the preamble of the document: \usemodule[streams] \def\StartCouple{\page\SwitchToNormal} \def\StopCouple {\SwitchToNormal \SynchronizeLeftAndRight \FlushLeftAndRight} \def\Original {\SwitchToNormal\SynchronizeLeftAndRight\SwitchToLeft} \def\Translation{\SwitchToRight} So you put the part of your document where synchronization should take place between \StartCouple and \StopCouple. After that , \Original and \Translation switches between even and odd pages. I know that several people on the list asked for a similar feature, and I'm very grateful to Hans for providing it. Uppercase headings

I started to edit an old document with capitalized headings. Making the headings was rather difficult (as can be seen on this list about a year ago), and now it seems to have broken again. I have: \setuphead[title] [page=yes, before={\strut\blank[5*big]}, after={\textrule\blank}, align=middle, style=\tfb, textcommand=\WORD ] This worked fine in the past. Not anymore: 8<--- ! Quotations

I use \startquotation and \stopquotation a lot. I would like to visually strengthen the quotations because some are pretty lengthy and a reader might forget that it is not me that is writing here. I have been thinking about applying a light grey background or a border of sorts (which should then be open at the top of bottom if the quotation flows over a page boundary. Can someone tell me how to do this? Thanks, G

\useURL and URL with spaces

Hello, I have an URL with spaces ("foo.cgi?opt=my options with spaces"). The URL link is ok ("\goto[url(...)]"), but the typeset URL (\url[...]) misses all the spaces. This is with 2006.03.23 09:57. Any idea how to fix this? Tobias

Hallo! Some months ago I have downloaded 'mswincontext.zip'. There were a lot of Problems and I tried to solve them. I could finally compile some files. But then I get new problems and so I decided to start over and ask the list for help. First Problem (may be the mother of all the others): The Batch-Files 'cdemo.bat' and 'cscite.bat' are using for example "%~s1" for the first placeholder on the commandline. My Windowssystem (ME) doesn't understand this. Are there other Batch-Files that work on older commandoprozessors to download? A second question: There exists an directory 'usr\local\context\tex\texmf\texmf' which contains fontinformation to one single fontfamily 'cb'. Is this ok: 'texmf' under 'texmf'? And why ist this there? Wolfgang

Regression Test project started

Hello everybody, I am pleased to let you know that a regression test project for ConTeXt has started. The pages of the project are here: https://foundry.supelec.fr/projects/contexttest/ and the goal is to create a repository of small, easily verifiable test files to test new ConTeXt releases against. The project is of course looking for help from the community. You do not have to have a deep understanding of ConTeXt to be able to help! you only have to know how to write an input file that tests a small part of ConTeXt (say \startitemize options), nothing complicated. We will put all those files in the version control system, and eventuall create an automated system to compile the whole batch overnight after each new beta release. Hello, I have a couple of questions concerning the bib module, which I'm using in conjunction with XML document code. In my header I say: \usemodule[bib] \setupbibtex[database={../Bibliography/bibliography.bib}] 1) \completepublications problem in the xml I say: <cite id="storz:02" key="authoryears"/> and use \defineXMLargument [cite] {\cite[\XMLpar{cite}{key}{}][\XMLpar{cite}{id}{}]} in my mappings. This works ok, however, I also have the following definition included: \defineXMLenvironment [chapter] { \defineXMLargument [title] {\chapter} \defineXMLprocess [content] {} } {\section{References}\placepublications} so that a xml chapter definiton like this: <chapter> <title> Example </title> <content> <cite id="bibtexkey1" key="authoryears"/> <cite id="bibtexkey2" key="authoryears"/> </content> </chapter> will be read out properly and I get a chapter specific publication list at the end of each chapter. This does not work. I will get a Reference List, but it contains the second entry twice and its second copy is indented in relation to the first ... Any Idea on how to remedy this? 2) I'm a biologist and author/year citation is usus where I work. The options 'authoryear' ('Hoekwater (2006)') and 'authoryears' ('(Hoekwater, 2006)') are great, but I would also want to have the option to prepend the latter with something like 'e.g.' ('(see e.g. Hoekwater, 2006)'). I understand this is possible to the right of the actual citation with 'extras', but how difficult would it be to do that on the left? Thanks for any help, Joh

On page 180 of the manual, ConTeXt lists many kinds of descriptions. Like one that indents the body of the definition. It is extremely frustrating to me that it doesn't say how to do it and I can't figure it out. Any ideas? - Jeffrey

Substack in Context

Hi, What is the context equivalent of latex's substack? How do I type the following $$ \sum_{\substack i \in P \\ j \in Q} a_{ij} $$ I search on source browser shows that this command was defined in newmat but pruned out. Is there a replacement for it? Is it safe to simply copy the definitions from m-newmat.tex and use them in my project? Minimal distribution linux-64

Hello, I installed the minimal distribution cont-bas.zip justtex.zip linux64tex.zip then I unzipped the files to get the directory structure outlined in README (by the way, why cont-bas.zip hasn't got tex as the top directory?). Then I did: cd /tex . setuptex mktexlsr texexec --make and got ! pdfetex.pool doesn't match; tangle me again (or fix the path). Piotr

Hi, I was looking at trying to implement something similar to amsmath's intertext command. Experimenting with the logo features as suggested by Henning Hraban Ramm I discovered that I can say: \definelogo[Pagina][text][left][command={\framed{\blackrule}}, state=start] or \definelogo[Pagina][text][middle][command={\framed{\blackrule}}, state=start] or \definelogo[Pagina][text][right][command={\framed{\blackrule}}, state=start] with the second key making the control of the alignment of the framed material. How is possible to control the alignment if instead of [text] I use [rightmargin] ? I tried \definelogo[Pagina][rightmargin][left][command={\framed{\blackrule}}, state=start] and \definelogo[Pagina][rightmargin][middle][command={\framed{\blackrule}}, state=start] to no avail. TeX i-Package update: Charis SIL font (ConTeXt)

The TeX i-Package for Mac OS X has been updated. This update contains the new Charis SIL fonts in Truetype format and support for those for use with ConTeXt. To use the font, just add \usetypescriptfile[type-silcharis] \usetypescript[SilCharis][ec] \setupbodyfont[SilCharis,12pt] or variants on that theme to your ConTeXt project. There is no support for LaTeX until either I need it myself or someone writes it (look at the gtamacfonts to see how it can be done) and sends it to me. During configuration, the SIL fonts are also installed in (copied to) /Library/Fonts/CharisSIL so they are available for GUI apps. G

Imaginary entity rendering in MathML

Hello, The following MathML test case (rec-arg1) using newmml does not render the imaginary entity ⅈ correctly. It is shown as a minus ("-") instead of "i". Dear all, It's a bit tiring to start many lines always with %. Is it possibile to have multiple line comments like in C \* comments here *\ I wasn't able to find anything like it in manual. In this case, what about a \startcomment \stopccoment syntax? 64-bit linux minimal distribution

Hello again, Some time ago I came across an information about 64-bit Minimal ConTeXt Distribution, but I can't find it anywhere. Right now I have to stick to Debian tetex 3.0 but this is far from what I want, as ugrading to most recent ConTeXt breaks the package system. I wasn't able to setup a separate texmf tree in my home directory. It doesn't work. So maybe having a separate 64-bit debian in chroot with just a Minimal ConTeXt Distribution might solve the problem. Sorry for beeing fussy, but didn't have to make complete ConTeXt reinstallations for couple of years and now it seems things has changed rather for worse than the better :( Piotr

Especially interested in what features in regular editors are quite useless to have around all the time. Automatic typesetting of catalogue entries

Hello list, This is a more general question so I'm not attaching any specific code examples but rather will try to explain what I'm thinking about. I'm going to typeset a catalogue of about 200 objects. Each entry consists of two main parts: a block of text and a photograph of the object. As we have to be economic rather than luxurious I adjust manually the size of each figure so that the text fills the rest of the page entirely. That means I keep on incrementing the figure width until the text spills onto next page, then I go back to the last value that was OK. Sometimes I have to squeeze two entries on one page so that each occupies half of a page. Perfectly repetitive task at which computer would do much better than human. Sorry if it's something trivial but I couldn't find any solution on my own. Thanks for any hints in advance Piotr

Hi, Is it possible to have allow math matrix column alignments to be configurable, on the lines of align={left,left} of \startalign. Rows or columns on top in TABLE

New tree in minimal context

Hello all, I am trying the minimal ConTeXt distribution. Ok, so I downloaded justtex.zip and linuztex.zip to /tex... and followed the instructions and all worked out well. However, I have another tree I want to use aswell, say /usr/local/texmf-wolfram. However, when I add entries in one of the following: /tex/texmf/web2c/texmf.cnf /tex/texmf-local/web2c/texmf.cnf /tex/texmf-local/web2c/context.cnf like: TEXMFWOLFRAM = /usr/local/texmf-wolfram and then add to TEXMF the TEXMFWOLFRAM TEXMF = {!!$TEXMFCONFIG,!!$TEXMFVAR,$TEXMFHOME,!!$TEXMFSYSCONFIG,!!$TEXMFSYSVAR,!!$TEXMFMAIN,!!$TEXMFLOCAL,!!$TEXMFDIST,$TEXMFWOLFRAM} the new tree is still not found when doing a mktexlsr. It just shows: mktexlsr: Updating /tex/texmf/ls-R... mktexlsr: Updating /tex/texmf-extra/ls-R... mktexlsr: Updating /tex/texmf-fonts/ls-R... mktexlsr: Updating /tex/texmf-linux/ls-R... mktexlsr: Updating /tex/texmf-local/ls-R... mktexlsr: Done. Unwanted indenting on first line of bibtex entries

Hello, I get a small indentation for the entries in the bibliography, but only on the first line! I am right now running the minimal ConTeXt distr, but it was the same with newest ConTeXt on a TeXLive 2004... Example: \usemodule[bib] \setuppublications[ alternative=num, refcommand=num, numbering=yes, ] \setupbibtex[ database=fejk, ] \starttext Bla bla \cite[ab,akgl,kato]. \placepublications[criterium=artikel] \stoptext The files are available at http://www.math.chalmers.se/~mickep/bibproblem/ Especially the resulting pdf is at http://www.math.chalmers.se/~mickep/bibproblem/bibprob.pdf My guess is that there is a \setupbib... something to get the entries without the indentation on the first line. Install mess (Type3 Fonts)

I know, I shouldn't have updated the context distrib, but I did... Of course, I add problems with missing fonts, and installed the lm fonts from CTAN. Now texexec can compile again. But the fonts used are now horrible, producing fuzzy letters. Can anyone give me some hints to fix this buggy install? If it can be of some help here is a log of a program I compiled. MathML test suite feedback

Hello, I've compiled with ConTeXt a large excerpt from the MathML 2.0 Test Suite (http://www.w3.org/Math/testsuite) and I encountered the following problems (test cases attached): - Percentage in tag attributes are not correctly handled (seem to be seen as tex comments) and make context crashes. - mfenced with empty separators doesn't work. - Using different brackets in <mo> doesn't work. - I don't know if it's a local install problem, but some fonts are not found when using UTF encoding. This said, only 6% (41/657) of the tests fails, which is an excellent rate. BTW, if someone is interested in the big context file containing all the tests, just tell me. I can also send the perl script used to generate this doc. Regards, BG

Hi, i plan to write a math-booklet and have a question about the math-modules in contex. What is the preferd way to deal with math in contex? MathML (xml-way) or \*formula (tex-way, from my point of view) I'am plan the outputs to pdfs. There are some complex (integrals, complex numbers, ...), formulas and electionical circuits figures. Installation: TeX-Live

i resolved my problem before about accessing the wiki by making a copy of everything while at a friends house. So any information leading to a conclusion is at least a week old. I am on a linux install (SuSE 10.0) and the wiki indicates to install ConTeXt in the location '/usr/TeX/texmf'. Even before this step it says to setup the fonts for ConTeXt use: cd /usr/TeX/texmf/context/data sudo texfont type-tmf.dat --en=texnansi --fontroot=/usr/TeX/texmf --install --makepath But TeXLive 2005 (where I did install ConTeXt - but want to update it) that I am using does not have a 'texmf/context' directory. However, there is a 'texmf-dist/context' directory. I need some guidance to make sure this is the proper directory or not. The only other thing I note in the TeXLive docs: For texmf: This tree (texmf) is for the support files and documentation of the programs in TeX Live. It does not include the TeX formats and packages themselves. Another criteria: everything that can be classified automatically by Fabrice's tpm-factory goes in texmf-dist. If not, it goes in texmf. For texmf-dist: This tree (texmf-dist) is for the formats (plain, LaTeX, ConTeXt, and all the rest) and all the packages, together with their documentation and sources. Most everything used in day-to-day TeXing, except the binaries themselves. Another criteria: everything that can be classified automatically by Fabrice's tpm-factory goes in texmf-dist (or texmf-doc). If not, it goes in texmf. And yet another: texmf-dist should be distribution-independent, so that, in theory, it could be used by distributions other than TeX Live. So, no web2c/kpathsea-specific files. Multi-page tables

Hi all, I'm having a bit of trouble getting multiple page tables to work when also using \placetable for captions. Essentially, I want: (1) Captions and the ability to reference with \in[]. (2) Alignment within a cell at a decimal point. (3) Span multiple pages with header/footer. I think I would prefer to use the standard 'TABLES' method but it looks like item 2 is only supported in natural tables? Below are two examples. I don't get page breaks in either case and the table runs off the bottom of pages 2 and 3. pretty typesetting for matlab files

Hi, I was trying to define a pretty printing environment for matlab files. The basic requirements that I have are % Numbers should be highlighted in a different color % Identify floating point numbers 1.1 and 1e-3. % Identify brackets % ()[]{} % Identify Punctuation % ,;<=> ... % Identify Operators % ^ + - / * .^ .* % Idenfity strings (enclosed in ' ' and " ") % Identify lines starting with % as comments. Show them % a different color. Identify %{ ... %} blocks as comments % identifiers function return case if else elseif do for while end % variables gt,lt,gt,lt,amp,abs,acos,acosh,acot,acoth,acsc,acsch, [snip].... a huge list The syntax is similar to both perl and MP. I had a look at the verb-*.tex files and tried to write verb-matlab. My attempt is attached. However, it does not work correctly. There are somethings that I could not figure out. 1. How to change the comment identifier. Matlab uses % as line comments and %{ .... %} as block comments. 2. For some reason Matlab variables are not recognized. 3. The punctuations are not identified. 4. '...' is not recognized as a string. The ' is output as a right quotation mark and not _neutral_ '. What would be a good way to include tex commands in the comments? Matlab recognizes %% as a special comment (begining of a cell). Is it possible to somehow translate %% into \MATLABcell, which is \bf by default but the behaviour can be changed if desired? display math overcrowded with $$..$$

The following file produces a overcrowded displayed formula (the integral sign almost touches the line of text below it): \starttext $$\ln(1+x)=\int_1^{1+x}{dt\over t}$$ is very useful. The logarithm is the area of regions A and B. \stoptext But if I use \startformula..\stopformula instead of $$..$$, then the spacing is fine. I make the pdf file with 'texexec --pdf try.tex' and see the problem on my laptop (Debian testing/unstable i386, teTeX 3.0-14 + cm-super font package): texexec : TeXExec 5.2.4 - ConTeXt / PRAGMA ADE 1997-2005 texutil : TeXUtil 9.0.0 - ConTeXt / PRAGMA ADE 1992-2004 tex : pdfeTeX, 3.141592-1.21a-2.2 (Web2C 7.5.4) context : ver: 2005.01.31 cont-en : ver: 2005.01.31 fmt: 2006.2.18 mes: english I thought a conTeXt upgrade might fix it, but I haven't (yet!) won the battle with teTeX and map and encoding files. However, the live ConTeXt (2006.02.15) on the Wiki displays, no pun intended, the same spacing problem. Should I not use $$..$$ for display math? I'm learning context as I convert my plain tex + eplain files. The Wiki page on Math <http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Math> says that context inherits its math from plain TeX, which implies that $$ should work. However, no examples on the page use $$, so maybe I shouldn't be so presumptuous. typing and linenumbering

Hello, I would like to print some listings, with their line numbers. To achieve this I use the following combination on framedtext, typing and linenumbering stuff. The output is pretty as I wish, but unfortunately the line numbers are *not* the numbers of the listing lines, but the numbers of the lines once wrapped in the frame. In the example below the first line is very long (the "blah blah" line), but in the output it is shown as 4 lines (with 4 line numbers). Is there a way to achieve this in a more integrated way with the typing environment? The other side effect of the method used is that it changes the linenumbering behaviour outside the typing environment. I tried the "reset" option, but it doesn't change the intext location. Is there a possibility to come back to default settings? Last but not least, is it possible to customize the wrapping behaviour so that an arbitrary command can be called before the cut, and another command after the cut? What I would like to have is {\space\wrapsign} before the cut and an indentation after the cut to show that the line is wrapped. Problem with typescripts - oldstyle numbers

I just realized the pattern in a somewhat unexpected behavior in a typescript. It defines several instances of Adobe Caslon (with or without certain ligatures, oldstyle, proportional numbers etc.). I want typewriter and math from Latin Modern. In the end, the typefaces are defined: \starttypescript [Caslonpnum] \definetypeface [MyCaslonpnum] [rm] [serif] [caslonpnum] [default] [encoding=\typescripttwo] \definetypeface [MyCaslonpnum] [tt] [mono] [modern] [default] [encoding=\typescripttwo] \stoptypescript Here's the catch: as soon as I add a definition for a math font: \definetypeface [MyCaslonpnum] [mm] [math] [modern] [default] [encoding=\typescripttwo] oldstyle figures will always be taken from the math font. If I delete this line from the typescript, I get the oldstyle figures from the font defined as [OldStyle]. Looks like a bug to me. Or am I misunderstanding something? Thomas

how to produce text with facing translation?

Hi all, I think I remember some of you already had experience with this, and I'd be grateful for a few hints that can get me started: as a textbook for a class I'm teaching, I want a booklet that will have Greek text with facing German or English translation. For the setup, I was thinking of \setuppapersize[A5][A4] \setuparranging[2*2] What would be the best way to achieve this? A few requirements: 1. The left-hand pages will have the Greek text, the right-hand pages the German translation. 2. In general, the German translation will be somehwat longer than the original, so I need to be able to insert manual breakpoints, but I want these breakpoints to occur in midparagraph so the last line of the page isn't truncated. 3. Would it be possible to have two sets of footnotes, one for the text, one for the translation? 4. I guess that I'll need to use a grid to make ligns align, right? Any help, as always, will be appreciated. Best Thomas

Fonts: Margin kerning: quotes not hanging?

Greetings ConTeXters, I've noticed recently that quotation marks (single + double), as well as parens, and perhaps others are not undergoing the expected margin kerning adjustments. Expected being those that are assigned to them in hand-def.tex. Punctuation like . , ; - -- --- all kern as expected. Is hand-def.tex just an example file? While I expect I'll have to make fine tuning adjustments in my font's own typescript file, where should I make overall adjustments? (e.g. I pretty much always want quotes to hang.) I'm using Adobe Minion Pro in this case, if this makes a difference. Thanks very much, David

figure placement

I am typesetting a small book and have run into two difficulties placing figures, which are constrained to even, i.e. left hand, blank, pages. The first place figures appear are opposite each new section. I coerce this with the following commands: \page[left] \noheaderorfooter \placefigure \page \section This scheme works when the previous section ends on an odd page, but when the section ends on an even page, \page[left] correctly inserts two blank pages, but the first, instead of being blank, retains a \vrule\pagenumber in the running head. It is little work to remove these artifacts with Acrobat, but I prefer these headers were empty. The second place figures appear is within sections. I use the same set of commands, which places the figures where I wish, but each figure must be placed precisely at the bottom of an odd page. This looks OK if the bottom of the page coincides with the end of a paragraph, but otherwise the last line is not flush right. I am looking for a solution that says, 'place this figure on the next blank even page disturbing the text flow as little as possible.' I have tried postponing, but without success. The attached archive includes a test file, an empty graphic and the pdf result. The ninth page shows the recalcitrant \vrule\pagenumber, and the eleventh page shows the result of splicing a figure in mid-paragraph. Any suggestions how to resolve these issues would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Michael A. Guravage

Hi to all, I'm plotting 10,000 little squares thus exceeding TeX capacity. I was going to modify context.cnf (everything works with 5,000 squares). In particular, I'm on macosx 10.3 with Gerben's distro. I am editing this file: /usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf.local/web2c/context.cnf 1. is it correct? 2. Above all, I'am obtaining: ! TeX capacity exceeded, sorry [main memory size=8000000]. Here's the log: If you really absolutely need more capacity, you can ask a wizard to enlarge me. No luck last time, so I will send this out once more: Currently I have \setupfootnotes[split=verystrict] and I am still getting one footnote call that occurs on the last line of page n where the note itself appears on page n+1. Is there a way to prevent this by assigning split= a number? If so, what numerical value will work? Or is there another setting? Thanks for any help. Cheers, Alan

Hi, I am reading the mfonts.pdf manual to understand more about Context font mechanism. In section 10 Math collection, Hans writes "Math is a complicated matter and therefore we will not spend that many words on the gory details .. ..... More information can be found in the documentation of the math module" First question is : Why do you not spend more words on this subject ? I suppose a lot of Latex users are possibly interested in using Context for their math typesetting but not knowing all the gory details, will complicate matters and hinder a possible conversion from Latex to Context. Second question is : where can I find the documentation of the math module ? Is it in PDF or do I need to consult math-ini.tex ? Kind regards Wim Neimeijer

PDF links behaviour

In the PDF documents, when I click on an cross-reference link (it can be a page number from the table of content, or anything done with \in[]) I jump to the related page (that's ok) but the document view is automatically changed to 'Fit in Window' whatever the view initially was (e.g. 'Fit Width'). Is it possible to change this behaviour? I would like to have the same behaviour than with latex, that is, the document view doesn't change when clicking on a link. I guess it's possible to achieve this with ConTeXt, but I haven't found any information about configuring this. Regards, BG

Dalyoung, This is much more a ConTeXt issue than a XeTeX issue. I *think* it comes up with XeConTeXt because the CJK font has (relatively) wider roman characters than with roman fonts. Anyway, here are two different approaches. externalfigure and width/height scaling

Hello, I am new to ConTeXt, so please be patient with my newbie questions. Looking at the \externalfigure capabilities, I haven't found any option allowing to scale only one dimension (or scale both dimensions in an anamorphous way). Am I right, and if so what is the best method to perform this? I thought about using the \getfiguredimensions macro to get the natural dimensions, and then use something like width=0.2\imgwidth,height=0.8\imgheight, but it is a pity that the externalfigure interface does not allow this directly (something like wscale and hscale options). I do not understand this behaviour of startalignment [middle]...stopalignment versus midaligned. According to the manual the contents should be centered in the middle. Although text is centered, a combinations is not centered but stays at the leftmargin. Is there something I do not understand or is the behaviour of the startaligment environment erroneous? hi there, i am trying to step a 2 column paragraph \defineparagraphs [poem][n=2] \setupparagraphs [poem][1][width=.4\textwidth] \startpoem poemtitle \poem \startlines ... ... \stoplines \stoppoem the second column is always in \startlines .. \stoplines it is not clear to me after reading the manual what are before, after, inner, or that if these could be used for something like this. -f -- smile, its the second best thing you can do with your lips.

Hi, I defined some extra math symbols based on the help of David Munger. David posted a question 2 years ago, asking the group how to define extra math symbols. He found a solution himself (see below) and what I am trying to do is to put this into a math collection like math-eul.tex but I am not successfull. Disappearing TOC.

I have a TOC for a newsletter created in the usual way. But if I set it up for printing on my local printer then the TOC disappears. Hi all, I am experiencing some trouble using mswincontext.zip. I have properly installed perl and ruby as the wiki says. hi there, my second question, is more like asking for pointers... where can i read more about fmtutil, and how come that context does not use it when (i assume) pdftex does? --\startquote--------------------------------------------------- Cleanup fmtutil Optionally, you can remove ConTeXt support from teTeX's configuration, because ConTeXt does not use fmtutil. Using # fmtutil-sys --edit you can comment out the lines for metafun,cont-en, and mptopdf And you can use # cd /usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf-var/web2c && rm -f cont-en.* metafun.* mptopdf.* to remove the old (fmtutil-generated) formats. --\stopquote---------------------------------------------------- -f -- the best way out of a difficulty is through it.

After reading the metaobj manual, I would change the color of several "ellipse" shapes... hi there, i am a (somewhat) long time pdflatex user and i am trying to convert to ConTeXt. openbsd comes with teTeX 3.0 pre-packaged, that is with a very old ConTeXt. the package has some openbsd specific stuff, but minimal, and only for keeping cnf files between updates and a couple of paths are different, but that is it. i was (am) having font problems, so i thought an upgrade would not hurt. the lovely guides on contextgarden.net got me started, and with minor changes i have a fresh ConTeXt up and running, but i have some problems still i am afraid. i am very new to ConTeXt and to TeX in general, i was always behind the "safe" curtains of macros (like memoir, etc). as i followed the instructions from here: http://wiki.contextgarden.net/TeTeX_3.0_installation my question are related to this page.... i will break down my question into more mails, so it's not too long, and so that people can answer to mails they know the answer to :) the first one: the first step to upgrade context is: --\startquote--------------------------------------------------- Fix texmf.cnf Now first you have to fix texmf.cnf as supplied with teTeX: # vi /usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf/web2c/texmf.cnf You have to add an engine path to the TEXFORMATS line, so that it reads: TEXFORMATS = .;$TEXMF/web2c/{$engine,} --\stopquote---------------------------------------------------- i deliberately skipped this one, and the new context worked without it. what does this precisely do? when i first run the new context, a new line in the output immediately caught my attention: TeXExec 5.4.3 - ConTeXt / PRAGMA ADE 1997-2005 fixing texformat path : .:{!!/home/f/.texmf-config,!!/home/f/.texmf-var,/home/f /texmf,!!/etc/texmf,!!/var/texmf,!!/usr/local/share/texmf,!!/usr/local/share/tex mf-local,!!/usr/local/share/texmf-dist}/web2c/{$engine,}{pdfetex,} so i thought, ok, here's the path issue. so i added "{$engine,}" as intructed, but it turned out that that this new line comes up anyway. could anyone comment on it? the next tip is to --\startquote--------------------------------------------------- While at it, you probably want to set shell_escape = t if it isn't already. --\stopquote---------------------------------------------------- in the default openbsd package this line says: shell_escape = f what is the difference? and what is it for anyway? some external execution of the legends are true? :) -f -- i'm not old. i'm chronologically gifted.
