Fat lines in tables?

Hello, how can I create lines with different widths using the "\DL" command as I do with "\HL[<factor>]" oder "\VL[<factor>]"? With "\DL" the <factor> is interpreted as a number of columns, not as a multiple of the default linewidth. So how to make thick lines in that case? Thanks and regards, Robert

Need a dot after float caption number (\floatcaptionsuffix)

I need a dot after float caption number. Page-flt.tex has a variable called \floatcaptionsuffix which can do this. Still, this should really be handled by a parameter in \setupcaptions, for example "separator" (which seems to be unused at the moment). XeTeX & ConTeXt running on Linux!!!

After a couple of hours (read as: beers) of sticking their heads together, the most prominent minds of the World found a way to make it work: XeTeX finally works with XeTeX, even with MetaFun graphics! Tested on SuSe 10.0 with rpm packages downloaded from SIL + the newest tfm + some patches that Hans applied and will probably make it into the distribution soon.

\typefile with a file in \usepath fails

Hello, \typefile does not output a file not in the current directory but available from a path defined by \usepath. It sounds like a bug since the file is actually found; if not, a message telling that the file does not exist would be printed. Example: \usepath[/path/to/my/file] \typefile{filebasename} Regards, BG

Breaking large equations across pages

Pagebreak of formula across pagebreaks is broken in the new release (ConTeXt ver: 2006.04.27 15:59). Consider \starttext \placeformula \startformula \startalign \dorecurse{50} {\NC a \NC = b \NR[+]} \stopalign \stopformula \stoptext (This used to work earlier, I can not test this, but I have document where the display broke across pages. Can somewith with an old ~ Mar, 2006 release test this?) Also, is it possible to have more control over where the display breaks. With latex, I can force equation break by using \allowdisplaybreaks[1|2|3|4] \documentclass{article} \usepackage{amsmath} \allowdisplaybreaks %<------------ Try with and without this. \begin{document} \begin{align} a &= b \\ % Paste the above line 50 times a &= b \end{align} \end{document} Ideally, context should also provide something configurable. Maybe, it should be part of \setupformulas[displaybreak=tolerant|verytolerant|strict|verystrict] Also there should be something like \NC .... \NR \allowdisplaybreak[yes|no|disable...same meaning as in \page[....] \NC ..... \NR to have more control over the pagebreak. mswincontext problems

Hi all (esp. windows users), Last night I tried setting up a Win98SE for use with context using mswincontext.zip (I borrowed a laptop for bachotek, so I could not install linux on it ... ). It went terribly wrong. At first I thought it was just the shoddy Win98 install on that machine, but Olivier tells me he also had problems installing the latest mswincontext, so I hope another someone who uses Windows98 can testrun the installation. I got all sort of errors from command.com (syntax error, out of environment space, command not found, permission denied), and the wiki page is definately incomplete so I could not really debug. In the end, I basically gave up. Cheers, taco

Dear all, I'd like to display several tables of the same size in an 3*2 array form. I tried the commands \placetables and \startcombination like in thd dispaly of figures, but it didn't work. My only solution is to use \startcolumns right now. Is it possible to use \startcombination in some way? Or, is there any way to perform such a display? Thank you for reading. Dalyoung

solved - making array of tables

Sorry again. I copied and pasted the codes in mp-cb-en.pdf and run it. It worked fine. Hence I modified the codes using my data and it also worked fine. I compared the structures of the codes in the documents and mine. The only difference is the blank lines between ............ \stoptable}{talbe 1} \starttable[...... and it was the cause of the trouble. The other day, I had a trouble in using \head because I didn't insert blank line, but today, I made another problem because inserting a blank line. Anyway, it is good to know ConTeXt better. Cranky booklet layout.

First I built a letter-on-tabloid booklet like this: \definepapersize[tabloid][width=11in,height=17in] \setuppapersize[letter][tabloid] \setuparranging[2UP,rotated,doublesided] \setuplayout[width=7in,location=doublesided,backspace=0.73in, topspace=.0in,height=10.3in] This worked pretty well. For the next iteration I wanted to reduce the size by one half, in other words a half letter sheet on a letter sheet. I came up with this: \definepapersize[halff][width 5.5in,height=8.5in] \definepapersize[ful][width 8.5in,height=11in] \setuppapersize[halff][ful] \setuparranging[2UP,rotated,doublesided] Now no amount of fiddling with \setuplayout parameters seems to place the logical pages correctly on the paper. If I use no such parameters whatever the entire physical page image seem to slide toward the bottom of the piece of paper. As a result the bottom logical page slides halfway off the page. Can anyone spot an obvious goof? In inline math, \to works fine (produces a right arrow), but in a figure caption all hell breaks loose. \k in inline math

\starttext $\k T$ \stoptext The above test file, to my surprise, compiled fine. [In Plain TeX I usually define \k as \kappa, but I had forgotten to carry over that definition.] The pdf output showed a T with little hook as a subscript. I can redefine \k as \kappa, but that might overwrite an important definition. However, I can't figure out where \k is defined. Table width trouble

Salvete, after a long time I got back to some ConTeXt file I had been working on and found that the following construct does not work (I assume it never did): \defineenumeration[example] [sectionnumber=chapter, text=Example, location=hanging, way=bychapter] \starttext \startexample Let $a=1$, $b=2$ \stopexample Something more generic \startexample[continue] Then, $a+b=3$. \stopexample \stoptext I would like the second example to come out as "Example 1 (cont.)". I must confess I did not quite understand which part of \dododefineenumeration actually defines \startexample ... Any ideas? Regards, Christopher

Quick Metapost question

Hi all, I'm looking for an equivalent of \externalfigure[width=1mm] but for \reuseMPgraphic. Something like \reuseMPgraphic[width=1mm]{my-mp-drawing} There is always the way of tracking the generated file and including it with exernalfigure, but this is not very convenient since the numbering is subject to change. Is there an easy way to achieve rescaling of such Metapost figures? Thanks, Olivier

Hi all, I like metapost but, according to the following mail (on the metapost ML): [metapost] MP vs. Asymptote I don't want to start a flame, but since someone posted a message some time ago mentioning Asymptote I got curious and I have to say that I was very impressed, even if I still have some problems with it. However, it seems a net improvement over MP, or not? Is there anyone with an informed opinion over Asymptote? Might Asymptote be the killer of MP? Arranging pages

Hi all, I'm working on my wedding's "Menu" with ConTeXt (I have started ConTeXt and metafun when making my wedding invitations ;) and already succeed to produce nice booklets) Considering two pages A and B, I would obtain: AB on the same page with setuparranging I obtain 0A B0 with 0 an empty page I have "succeeded" (is it really a success !!!) to obtain 00 AB using \page[even] and \page[yes] (I have to precise here that we would not to print a "booklet" for practical reasons) It's ok if I use --pages=2 but I feel frustating because I feel that it could be really simple to do what I wanted, i.e.: AB !!!!!!! I know that it could be done with overlay but I assume that there is a much simplier solution to this simple problem... Cheers Renaud

Hi all, Is it possible to combine placement attributes when specifying a floating figure or table? \placefloat[.1.][ref,..]{.2.}{.3.} .1. left right here top bottom inleft inright inmargin margin page opposite always force tall .2. text .3. text In my case, I'd like to ensure that figures in a double-sided document appear together, with the first on the left page and the second on the right. What I have reads: \placefigure [90,opposite] [Fig:a] {Figure a caption goes here} \externalfigure[a][width=0.8\makeupheight]} \placefigure [90] [Fig:b] {Figure b caption goes here} \externalfigure[b][width=0.8\makeupheight]} For the first figure, will a location of [90,opposite] ensure a rotated left-page figure? textbackground exceeds its scope

Hi, I have encountered a really strange bug in textbackground. Occasionally, textbackground colors the whole page instead of just the text between \starttextbackground and \stoptextbackground. This happens only when I am using module mag-01 and have \setuptyping[style=\ttx\setupinterlinespace] set. Attached is the minimal example that I could make. Tested with beta ConTeXt ver: 2006.04.18 22:36 fmt: 2006.4.23 int: english mes: english For this test, ConTeXt ver: 2006.04.10 20:04 fmt: 2006.4.23 does not give any problem, but similar problem occurs at some other place. If it is important, I can try to make a minimal file to reproduce the problem with latest stable release. Latest build of Context and the Polish-fonts

Hi, tonight I installed the todays built of Context in a minimal tree. - No problem so far! Bases on the recent discussions concerning a glyph I fetched the latest font-zips from the polish site. After installing everything it appeared, that a wrong set of mapfiles for iwona is loaded. I found that the correct version of the typescript is in the type-map.tex already. So what needs to be done is to switch from the set map-files like "iwona-rm.map" to "rm-iwona.map". Further I believe that there might still be a bug in the encoding (?) for the heavy variants: If I compile the attached file, I find that "sin^2" is regular instead of heavy. - (Heavy for the text is not setup, so it comes out as roman-regular fall back i.e. latin-modern.) TABLE: 'distance' override?

Hello, In my quest for tables similar to what the 'booktabs' package in LaTeX produces, I have run into a problem: something like '\bTABLE[distance=7.5pt]' will give me the sought for gaps in horizontal lines, but I have trouble implementing an uninterrupted topframe for the first and bottomframe for the last row. Is there any way of overriding the 'distance' parameter locally, so that for example the topframe of the first (header) row is uninterrupted, while the bottomframe comes with the 'distance' dictated gaps? For clarification see the attached file. While the gaps are desired for 'bottomframe' of the header row(s), the 'topframe' should be continuous. It would be even more marvelous if I could modify bottomframe- and topframe-rule thickness independently ... A recent proposal on this list to achieve the desired effect involved putting the whole table into a frame and displaying it's top- and bottomframe. However, that doesn't work for tables to be split over multiple pages and I'm hunting for the most generic of all mechanisms ... Thanks for any thoughts on this, Joh

Putting things over a figure

2c considerations about win installer

Dear all, I'm using conTeXt to create automatic documentation about sound classification. The idea is that starting from an html file collecting infos about sounds my program can generate some schematic images using R and POV-Ray and to create a conTeXt file including both images and textual information. Now, I'd like to share this work with my students. I'm on macosx, they're typically on win. My program is in python so it's cross-platform, so no problem. Obviously they can annotate sounds, generate images and include them manually in a MS word file. But I'd prefer that they compile the conTeXt file. On two win machines I tried to install conTeXt using the complete package (shipped with Scite: nice). I had always (different) troubles (on each machine) with environment variable (e.g. for Perl): actually I'm not able to run conTeXt. Hacking a bit, eventually asking the list, I think I will solve the problem. But I don't think that my students can do, as I suspect that they probably not even know what is PATH. And I cannot help them on each installation. So, more generally, I was asking myself if it would not be possible (and better) to have an .exe installer as usual happens in win, including Perl, maybe Ruby (+ or- 20 Mb doesn't change too much). Double click, and it set ups all the installation parameters. A completely autonomous installer would allow many people to try, use and get fond conTeXt (and maybe to leave Word) without having to struggle with problems which typically lead people to leave out. It seems to me that a similar installer would be a refinement in the spirit of the actual mswincontext distro. At the end, it's not that far form Gerben's distro on macosx. It does everything for me... Or maybe am I missing something? Feature request: Creating tables from (tab-separated) values

Hello, This idea described below was partially inspired by "gnuplot contemptations", but mainly because writing tables with both LaTeX & ConTeXt is too complex in most cases. Natural tables are great since they offer anough flexibility to do "just about anything" with tables, but many tables are still simple "m values in n rows" and for those it's an annoying task to write those "\NC"s, "\eTR\bTR"s, ... even if it's just a matter of writing a script to transform the values to a suitable form. Christopher Creutzig has sent an interesting solution to the mailing list some time ago (see http://wiki.contextgarden.net/TABLE#Creating_tables_from_CSV_data_.28Comma_…) and since then I've been thinking about a similar, slightly more powerful solution which could make table-typesetiting easier. I don't have enough skills to implement it, but here are some properties listed that such a solution should have. In case anyone finds this little project doable ... It would solve quite some headaches. - [very important] a possibility to define own macros, so that it would be easy to print any type of tables (natural tables, TaBlEs, ... or whatever form that could possibly come to someone's mind); for example \def\MyDef#1#2{\bTR\bTD#1\eTD\bTD#2\eTD\eTR}; the "machinery behind" would only have to "feed" these macros properly according - [important] possible to separate the data with different characters: tab, comma, multiple spaces, ampersand (&), ... - [very useful] a possibility to read the data from a block (\start...\stop...) or from a file; it would be handly to be able to use the same data file for making a plot and for printing the data into a table - [useful] possibility to ignore lines starting with '#' (optional; usually these are comments) - [not crucial] if comma (,) is separating the data, a possibility to escape it - [useful] a possibility to select which rows (columns) to print (for example rows "1-3,8-last" or "even", ...) - [optional, but still useful] replacing decimal points with commas - [optional] if the table was supposed to have 4 colums and only 2 are available, ignore/fill with empty arguments (don't panic with unnecessary errors) - [with luaTeX in mind] calculating sums of rows & columns & other Excel-like calculations & references accross tables ;) - well, that one wasn't meant seriously. Good afternoon. Many thanks, this solves the problem -- at least partially. The frames are `walking' now, but new problems appeared. I found that when I set `clickin=...', it is set it automatically to `clickout' as well, so one mouse click runs the JavaScript code twice. So I've set it this way: \definefieldstack[fgolds2] [sgolds1,sgolds2a,sgolds2b,sgolds2c,sgolds2d,sgolds2] [frame=off,option=,clickout=JS(Walk_Field{fgolds3}),clickin=] It's better, but I found that now frames are walking in a strange order. It is rather puzzling, since when it is invoked by \goto{...}[JS(...)], it works well. Moreover, it does different things at AdobeReader 7.x under Linux, and Acrobat 4.x under Windoze. Hello, When a reference is set to \head, a space after the square brackets appears in the output. Shouldn't it be ignored? Applying a reference to \item does not show the problem. Besides, what is the best way to put item or head text in square brackets? Using \relax works but I'm not sure if it's the recommended method. Hi gang, I played arund some with the linenotes mechanism provided in core- lnt.tex and an example provided by Hans about a year ago. On p. 398-399 of the TeXbook, Knuth shows how footnotes can be set as ordinary paragraphs in plain TeX, with no paragraph breaks between single notes. In the ConTeXt mechanism, I see only the possibility to determine the number of columns on which notes will be set. Can Knuth's solution somehow be hooked into the ConTeXt notes? Best Thomas

Hello, When formating tables the first row (top of the header) is easily formated by using for example: \setupTABLE[row][1][rulethickness=0.90pt,topframe=on] I was wondering whether there's an equivalent for specifically addressing the LAST row in a table? Dear ConTeXters, I am counting occurence of some macro in the text. Problem is when this macro is inside \bTABLE (and may be somewhere else). Due to try passes the increment is counter is incremented more then once and the result is multiplied. It is possible to implement some \everytrypass in which user can (e.g.) null incrementing? Or there is some another solution? Beste NTG'ers, Vaak melden de leden die naar een NTG-dag willen komen hun komst pas laat... daar zijn we aan gewend, kunnen we normaal mee omgaan maar dit keer is het anders. De voorbereidingen van ons verblijf bij Defensie in Den Helder en de overtocht naar TeXel en de overnachting daar maken het noodzakelijk dat we echt snel weten wie er allemaal komen. En als er te weinig leden komen, moeten we tijdig aan de noodrem... Daarom deze herhalings-oproep! Geef uiterlijk 30 april aan secretaris(a)ntg.nl door of je van plan bent deel te nemen aan deze NTG-dagen. //// Op vrijdag 12 (met uitloop op zaterdag 13 mei) vindt de NTG- voorjaarsdag plaats. Er is weer volop gelegenheid om TeX-tips en TeX- ervaringen uit te wisselen met andere NTG leden. We hebben een bijzondere locatie gevonden: we zullen te gast zijn bij de Nederlandse Defensie Academie (NLDA). Op vrijdagmiddag is er een NTG-colloquium voor studenten van de Defensie Academie NTG- leden en ge\"{\i}nteresseerden van andere universiteiten, met als thema "TeX anno 2006" De middag begint om 13 uur, zodat ook leden die wat verder weg wonen alle gelegenheid hebben om naar Den Helder te reizen. Vrijdagmiddag is er een colloquium, met een aantal presentaties waarbij de gevorderde gebruiker een beeld krijgt van de stand van zaken vandaag de dag terwijl de beginner op TeX gebied een eerste overzicht wordt geboden van hetgeen mogelijk is met TeX als instrument voor het typesetten van teksten. Aan bod komen: * Macropaketten: LaTeX, Context * Data invoer: XML of TeX * Integratie van grafieken en plaatjes * Het direct genereren van PDF-bestanden * TEX als distributie op verschillende platformen Er wordt tijd vrijgehouden voor vragen en discussie, en later in de middag maken we een uitstapje naar TeXel. Wie dat eens mee wil maken, kan (als de wersomstandigheden het toelaten) per marineboot die kant op, maar de gewone veerboot vaart natuurlijk ook. Op TeXel sluiten we de middag af met een barbecuemaaltijd. De terugreis naar Den Helder gaat (de volgende dag) per gewone veerboot. Autos kunnen op het terrein van de KIM achter blijven. Als het varen niet door zou kunnen gaan, is het mogelijk om met een deel van de autos, wel vol beladen, naar TeXel te gaan. Overnachten vindt plaats in de militaire Kazerne op TeXel, waar meerpersoonskamers (4/8) ter beschikking staan. Op zaterdag houden we de NTG-ledenvergadering. Er staan wat verkiezingen op stapel: secretaris Willi Egger en penningmeester Wybo Dekker kunnen worden herkozen, voor Frans Goddijn zit de maximale termijn erop, en Maarten Wisse stelt zijn zetel ter beschikking. Nadere gegevens, o.a. over de route naar de NLDA volgen spoedig, maar er is nu reeds alle aanleiding om vrijdag 12 en zaterdag 13 mei in je agenda te noteren! Let op! Forbidden things in bookmarks

Hello, The heading bookmarks don't accept some macros, like \copyright. In latex there's a handy feature that allows to define the text to put in the TOC and the text in the heading itself, like \chapter[Title in the TOC]{Actual Title in the doc}. Is it possible to do it in context? If not, maybe it could be an interesting feature to add. Hi, I have a counter which I want to be incremented after every \section command and reset after every odd \section (don't ask why...). This minimal file [case 1]: \setuphead[chapter][numbercommand={\gobbleoneargument} ] \starttext \chapter{One} \stoptext fails. Whereas if the first two lines are replaced by [case 2]: \setuphead[chapter][numbercommand={\gobbleoneargument}, ] or [case 3]: \setuphead[chapter][numbercommand={\gobbleoneargument}] then it's fine. Is this a bug or a feature of TeX's tricky spacing rules? And how can I think about ConTeXt's parsing in way that the difference between cases 1 and 2,3 is obvious? colored, marginal chapter numbers

I get colored chapter text and numbers with: \setupcolors[state=start] \setuphead[chapter][color=blue] \starttext \chapter{One} \stoptext But if I drive the numbers into the left margin, they escape the blue paintbrush (but the text is still blue): \def\sectionnumber#1{\inleft{#1}} \setupcolors[state=start] \setuphead[chapter][numbercolor=blue,color=blue, deepnumbercommand=\sectionnumber] \starttext \chapter{One} \stoptext Is there a recommended way of doing this? No metapost compilation on files named file.001.tex

Hello, There's something wrong in using (old)texexec/metapost on an input file named file.001.tex (I guess that 001 could be any number): the mp graphic is not generated. If I change file.001.tex to file.tex, it works ok. I attach the test file used if it can be useful. Regards, BG

\=d in a table: weird behaviour

Hello, It seems that \= and table interact in a strange way in the following example: \starttable[|c|] \NC \=d \NC\NR \stoptable \=d alone works OK. I suggested to use $\rm\overline{d}$ to the one who asked me about it, so it's not really crutial to fix that, I just find it a bit strange. Thanks, Mojca

emacs lisp for context in AucTeX

I wrote the following emacs lisp for my .emacs and pass it on (no copyright) in case others find it useful. I used variants for a decade with the old tex mode, but just rewrote it for auctex and for context's display math syntax (which deprecates $$...$$). The purpose: 1. If you type {, [, or (, the appropriate right delimiter is inserted for you and the insertion point is placed between them. So I never get unbalanced XYZ errors. If you think it's a misfeature, delete the last three local-set-key's in the TeX-mode-hook. 2. Same feature if you type $ for inline math: you get $<insertion point here>$. The old tex-mode code would do the same on typing a second $, so you'd get $$<insertion point here>$$ for tex's display math. The code below will also do that, except in context mode. 3. In context mode, typing the second $ will gobble up preceding whitespace and then insert \placeformula\startformula <place insertion point here> \stopformula The whitespace-deletion code in start-context-math is a bit pathetic and any improvements are welcome. help needed with difficult document structure

Hello, I'm having a little bit of problem with the document structure of the project I'm currently typesetting. It's kind of a scientific magazine that consists mainly of independent articles. The articles use \section and \subsection and should have their own numbering, as well as for the caption numbers and such. Oh, and the article's internal sectioning should not appear in any table of contents. At a higher level each Article has it's title (and author) and groups of articles are put together in categories ("Studies", "Documentations", "Focus articles"). These Categories and the Article Titles should appear in the main TOC: Studies On This And On That John Doe ................... 7 Another Study B. E. Ginner .............. 10 Focus Articles A Focus Article N. Ewbie .................. 15 Documentation Content of Documentations . 19 Europe .................... 20 Asia ...................... 23 America ................... 37 Africa .................... 42 and so on. Chosing \part level for categories and \chapter/\title for article titles comes to mind, but \chapter influences \section numbering ("2.1") and \title doesn't reset all those counters, leaving alone the problem of getting the author into the toc. I guess I'll have to do this one by hand. To make things even funnier there is the documentation part, which has two levels of unnumbered sectioning, of which the first level goes to the main TOC and the first and second go to a dedicated documentation TOC directly preceding that part and listing first and second level: Documentation Content Europe Germany ............... 21 Netherlands ........... 22 Asia China ................. 24 and so on. Now I'm a bit unsure how to implement this cleanly in ConTeXt. I've already done it for LaTeX (from which we are switching because of ConTeXts superior layout abilities). I simply used two additional toc files for that. In Context I even don't get unnumbered sections in any toc :( (but maybe I'm just a bit over-tired...) I cannot expect a ready-to-run solution, but any hints or "best context practices" would be highly appreciated! Yours sincerely, Karsten

Multi-page table and lengthy caption

Hello, In my field lengthy table captions are common. The attached example shows two problems I have with the multi-page tabeling I made work with the help of the included patch from Hans: 1) the table splitting does not calculate the right height for the caption - the table is too long for the page. 2) captions of this caliber should only appear together with the first part of the table and should be replaced with 'continued' or nothing when appearing with further parts. I would greatly appreciate any advice on how to fix/achieve these two issues. Thanks, Joh

Two Problems: Colored Chapter and Footnote positioning

Hello, I'm facing two problems. The first one has to do with the fact that if I use \color[darkblue]{\chapter{Capitulo 1}} the line with \setuphead[chapter][header=empty] seems to be ignored because the chapter page gets the header too. I'v attached an example in the file "capitulo-cores.tex". The second problem has to do with the fact that in the attached file "footnote-posicao.tex" I changed the layout of the page, so that I could have a bigger right margin. The problem is that I would like to have the page number centered on "the page" and note on the new dimensions of the text area (don't know if I' been clear but I think you will understand if you look at the attached file). In fact I have a third problem that is the fact that the page number is repeated. I don't want to remove the line \setupfootertexts[][\setups{t_footer}] because I want the footer in 10pt. Thank you! Hello, \externalfigure[prefix-\doifmodeelse{blub}{blub}{notblub}][width=0.5\textwidth] does not work. I tried some combination of \expanded, \unexpanded, \expandafter etc but without success. In the end, I write: \doifmodeelse{blub}{% \externalfigure[prefix-blub][width=0.5\textwidth]}{% \externalfigure[prefix-notblub][width=0.5\textwidth]} Is this the most elegant way, or do you know better? texexec is very coy

When texexec doesn't find a program or a file, it doesn't complain loudly. In this output from a recent run extra program : dvipos z total run time : 3 seconds texexec went looking for 'dvipos'. I didn't suspect any problem since I didn't know that it wasn't installed (and hadn't heard of it until a few hours ago). An error message like this would be useful:: extra program : dvipos z ERROR: Could not run 'dvipos' total run time : 3 seconds Perhaps at the end of the run repeat all those error msgs (otherwise they gets buried in all the output). A similar message would be useful when the tex file itself doesn't exist: $ texexec nosuchfile.tex TeXExec 5.4.3 - ConTeXt / PRAGMA ADE 1997-2005 fixing engine variable : pdfetex total run time : 1 seconds Eventually I learnt that a run time of 1 second meant I'd mistyped the file name, but a message would be useful (and more helpful than prompting for the correct filename: I like Unix programs to not ask questions). -Sanjoy `A society of sheep must in time beget a government of wolves.' - Bertrand de Jouvenal

Miktex woes

All, A colleague of mine did an update of his miktex. This was working before the Miktex update. Miktex has a texexec.exe in a bin/ file. That's the one being used, but we cannot find any instance of texexec.ini in the miktex tree. I don't think Miktex uses the ini file. Anyone know what's going on here? Alternatively, could I get a suggestion for a good miktex installation of context using the zip file from Pragma?

XML floating figure and width.

'<figure width="\textwidth">' does not work and does not make much sense when using the XML with something else but ConTeXt, so I want to implement a mapping of 'max' to '\textwidth'. Natural tables: how to adjust row height/vertical spacing?

This may almost be a FAQ question, but I just cannot find the answer in the wiki nor in mailing list archives: How do I adjust row height/vertical spacing in natural tables? In my old tables (\starttable etc.) the trick was \noalign{\vskip-6pt} but this one doesn't work with my natural tables. In Word I'd just adjust linespacing and paragraph spacing in the table, but that obviously isn't the soluction in ConTeXt - or at least I don't seem to understand enough to get it to work. Any ideas of what to do? I like natural tables, but if vertical spacing isn't adjustable, I'll have to stick to my old alternatives, tables and tabulate. If somebody gives me a working solution (that's simple enough that I manage to implement it), I promise to wikify it for future use... Inconsistent behaviour of placefigure[left] for math and text

Hi, When I use \placefigure[left] with some test, the text wraps around the figure. But if the paragraph, contains some formula, it does not wrap even after the figure is complete. How can I prevent such a behaviour. \bigr bracket missing in antykwa

Hi, \bigr\} does not give me anything while using antykwa fonts. \big\} also does not work. \right\} works correctly. Is there something missing in the typescripts? Good morning. I use a fieldstack in my presentation. I'd like to go to the next frame when I click on the figure. Hello, In the following example using the "nc" option, the 3 middle columns don't fit the width option. Defining hyphenation sites that will not produce a dash?

Hello My ConTeXted XML document contains a number of constructs like this pRS&thinspace;403&endash;<math><mn>9</mn><mo>×</mo></math>Myc/TEV/<i>URA3</i>/TEV/His<sub>8</sub> (molecular genetical plasmid/genotype deinitions - in case you wonder ;0). This predictably produces line break/hyphenation trouble. I'm already using a mapping rule like this \defineXMLargument [hyph] {\-} but I was wondering whether there's an analogue that won't produce a hypneation-dash if the manually defined hyphenation site is used. Chapter-wise bibliographies and multi-chapter citations

Hello, First: I've put together a minimal example for this problem which can be found at http://www.johannesgraumann.net/copy_of_profession/bibprob/ Second: The problem ... When I declare chapterspecific bibliographies like so: \usemodule[bib] \setupbibtex[database={bibprob.bib}] \setuppublications[sorttype=bbl] \starttext \chapter{1} \cite[authoryear][garrels:96]\par \cite[authoryears][gavin:06] \section{References} \placepublications[criterium=chapter] \chapter{2} \cite[authoryear][garrels:96]\par \cite[authoryears][gavin:06]\par \cite[authoryear][giaever:02] \section{References} \placepublications[criterium=chapter] \stoptext I run into the problem, that shared citations (in this case 'garrels:96' and 'gavin:06' are only printed following the first '\placepublications' call and not the second. I'm collating multiple publications into a thesis and since they all deal with similar themes, there's a lot of overlap. My university requires chapter-specific complete bibliographies, so the status quo is bad for me. Thanks for any hints, Joh
