Thanks, Bruce, for clarifying this. But can we put 'c' character in the second column. So 'c' and its math content were together. The annoying thing is that the letter is in one column and its content in another. Problems with itemize with several columns

Hi, I try to solve this, but I could not. Can you please help me. I make a math problem sheet. In "Exercici 1.2", I put a itemize with three columns, but the 'c' exercise jumps to second column. I want that a, b, c remains in the first column, d, e, f in the second and g, h, i in the third. I tried \column command but it's worse. I attached the source and generated pdf. Cyrillic alternate form in Neacademia

Dear list, I'm using the typeface Neacademia Text, and I'm trying to configure it to the specifics of the Serbian language. I want to replace the usual form of the lowercase cyrillic letter BE with the traditional Serbian form. I opened the font file in Font Forge and looked up the glyph info. Hi all, I have a rather old project which involves a bibbliography of about 60 entries. — Now I tried to use the publications environment after reading the manual. — I must say environment this is impressive! However I struggle with getting it working. 1. When using my dataset, which is encoded as a ‘bbl’ type file I get a list of publications but the entries are uncomplete. enclosed files: publist-test.tex, test-literaturliste.bbl, publist-test.pdf 2. When I use a buffer for testing, I do not get \cite reference nor a publication list: publist-buffer-test,tex Can someone advise? Kind regards Willi

Disable reuse of figures

Hi, This is related to a bug report for the filter module: https://github.com/adityam/filter/issues/60 Normally, when the same figure is included twice, context only includes the figure once and refers to the included figure the second time. The option `object=no` to externalfigure is supposed to prevent that, but it doesn't work. The `\ReadPDF` macro then includees the file (with object=no). At the next \startgraphviz .. \stopgraphviz, the same process is repeated. The `\jobname-temp-graphviz.pdf` file is overwritten and the new file should have been included. But it is not. The output contains the first image twice. I thought that object=no should have prevented the reuse. In fact, if I compile the file with luatex, I get an error message: ! error: (pdf inclusion): file has changed '12-two-outputs-temp-graphviz.pdf' mtx-context | fatal error: return code: 256 Any idea why object=no is not working? footnote width in specific paragraph instance

I need to typeset a document that contains many poetry/verse examples, and am using \defineparagraphs[mypar][n=2] for the purpose. In one specific case a footnote is required. All good except that the footnote is the width of one of those two 'columns', not the usual textarea width. Here is the current setup (the 'poem' environment is previously defined and not relevant here for my problem): \startmypar \startpoem red desert dust invades every crevice – vast deserts that we inhabit inhabit us\footnote{The ‘reddesert dust...’ is adapted from Matthew diNevop. 103.} \stoppoem \nextmypar \startpoem {\emI will lead you into the wilderness, speak fondly to you of my everlasting love my unfailing kindness} \stoppoem \stopmypar The resulting footnote: 1. The ‘red desert dust...’ verse overleaf is adapted from Matthew di Nevo p. 103 Is there a way I can get the footnote not to break after 'overleaf' and be normal textarea width instead? Suggestions for more math classes?

Dear all, While discussing spacing in math with Hans, we have come to the conclusion that to have better control and cleaner code there might be a good idea to have more math classes than the usual ones in TeX (ord, op, bin, rel, open, close, punct, inner (and some that we need not to think about)). So far, Hans has implemented frac and rad for fractions and radicals. The fractions has been a funny construction, being put inside empty delimiters, and so surrounded by the \nulldelimiterspace (which has been set to 1.2pt, independent of font size). Now we have better control of the spacing around fractions. Hans has opened up (even in the code) for the addition of more classes. The overall aim is to have a more coherent and logical way of typing math, without manual adding of (arbitrary) spaces every now and then. For example, we have always written \int f(x)\, dx to have a thin space between the closing parenthesis and the d in integrals. There will (most likely) be a differential class. Since the d might occur in other places in a formula with integrals, one cannot just simply give the letter d the differential class, and we are currently discussing the correct way for the user to type it. If you have suggestions, please let us hear! Some further suggestions by Hans are (see below for two more) 13 imaginary 14 differential 15 exponential 16 function Q1: Do you have any further suggestions on new classes (or comments on these)? It might be good to think about situations where you have felt that you need to insert manual spaces such as \, or \! to obtain a better result. I give one contribution: I asked a colleague to look in his TeX files for manual spaces, and he came up with several \, (usually before the d in integrals) but also with \!. This \! occurred mostly in fencing situations to have the exponent come a bit closer to the closing parenthesis. \left( \frac{x}{2} \right)^{\! k+2n} I have seen this in many places before, so no originality is claimed. Two more classes that we thought of are under and over. Say that we have a\overbar{bc}d. Should the spacing between a and the \overbar{bc} and the spacing between \overbar{bc} and d always be tight? If so, these might just be ord, and no new class needed (although one could argue for adding the classes now, set them up as ord, and thus being able to configure them according to taste/need). Q2: Do you have any real examples of constructions with \overbar, \underbar, \overbrace, ... or if you have any strong opinion, please raise your voice! /Mikael

Harfbuzz plugin and colors

Hi, list! I've tested the Harfbuzz plugin in ConTeXt and it works nicely for most cases. However, color doesn't seem to work. Is this intended? I know this plugin won't be supported, but I'll be fine with pointers to solve this issue. Indented Paragraph After Float?

Dear Hraban, Dear Hans I'm looking for a way to automatically rotate a graphic (DIN_A4_PDF_Pages). I try to manage technical manuals with Context. (Which is really great!) To do this, I have to import always new PDF-pages (technical sketches) , which can be in landscape or portrait format. The pages should always be displayed as large as possible on the pages of my manuals. (I have no influence on the PDF's, as they come from other departments.) Double-sided documents with MetaFun's Field[Text][Text]

Dear list, I have a double-sided document in which I want to draw certain page backgrounds on the right (odd) and left (even) pages. Odd Font Behavior in startstop Group

I am experiencing an odd behavior switching text styles in a defined startstop group ("blockquote"). I get different behavior depending on whether the switchtobodyfont in the startstop definition includes the dummy {\it } and {\bf } text. If they are not there, the italic and boldface switches in the second blockquote revert to the gyreschola body font of the main text; but this only happens if there is an earlier blockquote with no style changes. Fonts in ConTeXt are always perilous, alas. XMP metadata schema yields invalid PDF/A

Transliteration

Hello! I've been working on a Serbian book and I had to transliterate it from cyrillic to latin. There's been some nice improvement in transliteration, and I would like to propose a small change. One of the peculiarities that current transliteration mechanisms (both internal one and the 3rd party module from Philipp Gesang) don't process is that Љ, Њ and Џ are transliterated to Lj, Nj and Dž in normal words that start the sentence, or in names that normally start with a capital letter, but in titles written in all capitals they should be transliterated to LJ, NJ and DŽ. So, the quick solution was to update the current mapping vector and add another one (that is attached) that maps cyrillic capitals to LJ, NJ and DŽ and set the correct 30 letters used in Serbian language. It requires a bit more manual work to set the correct mapping for all capitals text, but it works. I have also merged the Serbian hyphenation patterns, so there is no need to switch the language in order to have hyphenation in transliterated text. That was possible because cyrillic and latin scripts use different code points, and there are no conflicts in patterns. So I suggest merging the patterns for Serbian cyrillic and latin. There is another issue if one wants to use a dropcap and the rest of that first word, and several following words are to be typeset in small caps. If that first letter is Љ (or other two letters that transliterate as digraphs), then the second letter of the digraph is not typeset in small caps because it gets injected before the group that turns on small caps. Hi, There haven't been updates and the reason is that we're in the middle of math and/or wrapping up on transliteration / indic (for which there is also a nice wiki page being made). Concerning math, we're progressing with some rather flexible spacing, penalty, linebreak extensions but don't want to risk that when not used it gives different results (probably not all can be completely compatible but that is a side effect of getting rid of some hard coded assumptions in the engine). One objective is to make input a bit easier and predictable, esp wrt the often needed correction spacing (\, and friends). Anyway, in addition to Mikaels request for input an while ago ... if there are 'tex math annoyances' that you think originate in the way tex expects input, and you'd like them to be taken into account, let us know. sorting for particular sub entries to register

Let me come back to the unresolved (for me) question of two situations in sub entries to a book index (register). Sub entries that have formatting or sub entries that are surrounded by quote marks (straight or curly, it makes no difference) do not appear in the correct alphabetical order. Two attempts on my part: text before \index[Plenary+periti]{Plenary Council+{\it periti} (experts)} text after. text before \index{animals+‘special kinds’} text after. Or alternatively, \index[animals+special]{animals+‘special kinds’} The setup for my register is a pretty standard one. The processor is not for the 'periti' case above but I use it for book titles. \setupregister[index][n=1,method={zc,pc,zm,pm,uc},style=WORD] \defineprocessor[special][style=italic] In the periti case it is the \it command that clearly interferes with correct alphabetic positioning in the sub entry list. Placing +periti in the key does not overcome that problem. In the ‘special kinds’ case it is the initial single quote mark (‘) that causes the problem. The item comes last in the sub entry list. And if i include a key [special], then it comes first in the sub entry list. Either way, it is out of the desired sorting order. I believe I have followed the helpful suggestions of various ones, but it is always possible that I have not fully understood those suggestions. The reality is that at the moment the issue remains unresolved for me. Any further wisdom out there to offer me? Julian

Dear list, I am struggling with the color of bibliographical references. I found (Ulrike’s) hack to render the items in the bibliography the regular color (black): \appendtoks \iflocation \letinteractionparameter{color}\empty \fi \to \everybtxlistrendering. There the problem seems to relate to the use of \setupinteraction. Now, in my citations (\cite[Douma1979a]) the authornames are still colored. Douma, 1979a, 86 I examined the contextgarden site, read and tried the answers to previous questions, but could not find out how to do this. Is there a way to control the author names? No, I had already tried that. It places the subentry at the top of the list of subentries, not in its correct alphabetical order. Using the example below, I assume you meant (I am including text before and after): The \index[Plenary+periti]{Plenary Council+{\it periti} (experts)} group comprises 10 members. There are nine subentries altogether, and quite a number under 'p', like \index{Plenary Council+preparations for}. The italicised /periti /should come just before the latter (preparations for) but, using the double key above it comes first in the list. The same happens with the subentry surrounded by single quotes. It too comes first in the list if I use a double key. So clearly it is the fact that there is formatting ({\it something}) or quotes ({‘word’}) in a subentry that causes the problem, and I am wondering how to overcome this. Well done Adam - or should I say well read in the Wiki! For all my reading of it I still hadn't cottoned on to that. There are several of these cases, but I have been able to fix them all now. Thank you. Any thoughts (but I'm pretty sure this isn't fully explained in the wiki) how I can get part of the index entry in italics and part normal? That might be a bit more difficult I think. How to stop \placefigure from floating off to some other page?

When I used `\placefigure`, ConTeXt often puts the figure on a completely different page, my readership of young students is getting confused where the image is. How can I have all of my `\placefigure` in the entire document appear exactly where called, even if that means having to place it on a new page with lots of space before it or even a new page afterwards? I need it to show up in the order it was called. I think `\setupexternalfigures[location=]` should provide the solution, but cann't figure what is the correct location, I'm not seeing that in the manual anywhere.

How to stop columns from splitting up items in a list?

I am writing a workbook that contains a materials list in front of some craft activities. I found that simply displaying a bulleted list can take up lots of space on the page, so instead put the list in three columns. The problem is, if there is an item with a somewhat long description, it can be split across columns. Why isn't bold + italics working together?

I am finishing the final touches on a manuscript, which I hope to send to a publisher later today and noticed this problem where bold and italic text isn't rendered at the same time. I am using the EB Garamond font in my document. I set it up exactly as shown below. Strangely, bold works, italics works, but when bold and italics are together, it only display in italics, it doesn't display a bold italic text. I've confirmed the `EBGaramond-BoldItalic.otf` font is present and seems just fine. I've also tried by just using the default ConTeXt font and the error still appears, also in live.contextgarden.net. I tried searching the mailing list, as this seems like something that must have come up, but couldn't find any question about this. How to create multiple PDFs from one TeX file?

I have several books in a set that have many things I'd like to have linked together, such as page references, shared indexes, shared glossaries, etc. One solution I see is putting all the files together, then using a tool like pdfjam to seperate the pages later, but I'm wondering if ConTeXt can already produce multiple files, or a split in the PDF, already? I tried this code below, as I hoped it would create two PDFs, but it only rendered everything between the first set of `\starttext` and `\stoptext`. --Joel Minimum example: \starttext This is document 1. \input knuth \stoptext \starttext This is document 2. \input knuth \stoptext

How can I get a section title to change depending on the section content?

I have a section somewhat like this...I'm replacing the code with something much simpler, but its basically doing a similar thing, running conditionals to check which content to place: \section{Brave Rabbits} \ifnum\somenumber>3 Print this content about rabbits. \else Print this stuff about pigeons instead. \fi Basically the content inside that section can change, either being about rabbits or about pigeons. I need the section title to follow that change, the problem is the section title appears before this code, so defining some variable in the later code won't affect the rendeiring of the section title. registers, how to ignore quote marks

I have an issue that has been raised at least twice in this list but as far as I can see it has not received an answer. Perhaps someone can help with the following? I have an index entry that has unicode quote marks either side: ‘Innovative Beings’. I need to retain those quote marks. If I put \index{‘Innovative’} then ‘Innovative’ is sorted under ‘ instead of under the letter I. How do I get my indexing to ignore the quote marks, at the very least the initial one? My index setup at the moment is as follows: \defineregister[index][compress=yes] \setupregister[index][n=1] \defineprocessor[special][style=italic] The only hint I could gain from the wiki was that it might depend on using a method key in \setupregister, but I could not see which to use. Let me add one more difficulty I have come across with registers. I need the title of a book to be in italics (and know exactly how to do that with \defineprocessor), but the author's name to follow is to be normal, not italic. So I need: /book name/, author name. I tried setting up a second \defineprocessor with style=normal and introducing that after the first one in an index entry, but I can see that only one processor can be introduced in an entry, not two. What is the proper way to define many different list types in a document?

I have about several different types of list that reoccur multiple times in my documents. Though I tried to keep things simple, by just defining the type when it appears, strange glitches appear. For instance, I have one that uses the ☞ (pointing hand) logo, and sometimes that randomly appears in the wrong lists, for reasons I cannot understand. Below is how I'm defining my lists. Placement of figures

Hi all, I have a project with my brother in which 5 foto’s are placed with the XY arrangement in a row. Now we see, that the floats are not placed all on the correct position. I tried all kind of things, but I am not able to fix them in the desired position. — When using the key location=top, all figures are placed correctly. This does not work with location=center. How to get \placenotes to place footnote-style citations at the end of my content?

I'm spinning this question off another post, as my previous question was very specific, but it was possibly discovered a more general bug exists? I'm creating some lecture slides that have footnote citations throughout. The problem is, the slides themselves already don't have much screen space, and adding all of the footnotes on the same slide steals limited screen space. It ends up showing one bullet point per slide and filling the page with the citation information. I still need to provide citations though. The solution is perhaps to place `\placenotes[footnote]` after several slides. Then, at the very end of the document list the full bibliography with ` \placelistofpublications`. In this way, I still present the citations, but they don't bury the content of the slides. But something seems wrong with ConTeXt, not allowing this to function. How to add entire chapter's page ranger for index entry?

I am adding items to an index simply using `\index{word}`. There are a few cases where instead of printing just the page number where `\index{word}` is placed, I need the entire page range for that chapter to be displayed. For instance, if Chapter 3 spans page 22-50, and I place `\index{word}` in Chapter 3, I need the index to display "word 22-50", but only for that entry...not for all index entries. I am trying to create an in-text list, with parenthesis, but without the period. If I use this `\startitemize[text, n]`, I get an in-text list, but there are periods: There are many kinds of animals at the children's zoo: (1.) rabbits, (2.) pigs, (3.) sheep, and (4.) dogs. Strangely when I use `\startitemize[text, n, stopper=]`, which I hoped would make the period go away, I just get a regular bulleted list, it seems to ignore the 'text' command. Linespacing modified across document

Dear list, I've noticed that in my document the linespacing (verified with \the\baselineskip) is not consistent across the whole document. In the first section, it's fine (no maths). Later on, it gets increased by some amount, which tends to depend on what kind of mathematics are in between, so it's not constant. Has anyone else noticed this too? BR Alex

\installpagearrangement doublesided stickers

Greetings everyone. Well, it's not exactly about double-sided stickers but sort of. Imagine printing a double-sided sheet and using a so-called plastifying device to make tokens. I began with the File Card and Labels examples from the wiki, then tried to change the \installpagearrangement example from the 'imposition' wiki page. My question is: how to position everything in the middle of the sheet, so that double-siding actually works? As is, it's all in the top left corner. Changing the location argument for "location=middle" in \setuplayout doesn't work here. What should it be? By the way, I'm not sure about the 3rd, 4th and 6th arguments in the dosetuparrangement command. Thanks a lot! Engine mismatch in Windows 8.1 (32 bits)

Hi everyone! I've just installed ConTeXt on an old machine running Windows 8.1 (x86) and I've noticed the format is regenerated each time I process a file. It can be read on the log (third line): warning: engine mismatch (luv: This is LuaMetaTeX 2.09.36 <> bin: This is LuaMetaTeX 2.09.34), forcing remake grep -r '09.34' finds a coincidence in mtxrun.exe. Is anyone else facing this issue? Jairo

Font scaling via sa in LMTX

Hello list, It seems that font scaling to a letter is not working consistently in LMTX. This example: \definefont[TitleA][Sans sa a] \definefont[TitleAB][Sansbold sa a] \starttext {\ssa This is ssa \TitleA and this is TitleA}\par {\ssbf This is ssbf \TitleAB and this is TitleAB}\par \contextbanner \stoptext Produces different relevant output with each engine. I suppose one could use numeric values instead of defined font size letters as a work-around, but that means lack of coordination with custom sizes in \definebodyfontenvironment. -- Rik

Fuzzy lines

Hi MetaFans, is it possible to get lines with Metapost that look like they were drawn with a pencil or brush? Some vector graphics apps (in my case: Affinity Designer) can use such naturally looking brushes for vector graphics (and I don’t know how they do it), but I’d like to automate/parametrize some designs, and that would finally be a reason to learn Metapost... I don’t want to bother with enclosing each and every graphics in a ‘begingroup...endgroup’ with the appropriate ‘save’ statement. But I don’t want variables from previous graphics to leak into following ones either. Counter names

Good morning to all. I would like to ask where I can find information about the name of the different counters that are handled in ConTeXt, in order to manipulate them manually. I guess the number of internal ConTeXt counters will be tremendous. But I would like to know what the "most common" counters are called, for example the ones that control the different structural units (chapter, section...) or the elements of a structured list, etc. I have tried to apply \incrementcounter or \decrementcounter to some counters that also exist in TeX as, for example, chapter, section... but I don't get any result. Custom Table of Contents

Hi! I’m new to ConTeXt. I need to make a custom table of contents that looks like this: https://imgur.com/a/Ca3By6X Each row in the table corresponds to an item that has following data to print in the table of contents: page, total number of pages which the item spans, name of the item and a custom text metadata field which is defined by the item. Each item will have its own regular table of content and own structure. So we can think of this TOC as kind of a mega table of content one level above. It needs to be fully automatic. The actual table is going to be an xtable (which I was blown away by after using LaTeX godawful tables for years, it’s soo good). After digging into the documentation (again, wow, it’s soo detailed and approachable after LaTeX😂), I found out that \completecontent doesn't provide such extreme level of customization. Therefore I need reimplement at least some parts of the default content forming mechanism. What I need is some guidance on what would be the best course of action, in particular, which API should I use and roughly how should I approach it🙏 Should I create my own counters for each item and somehow reference those manually in the TOC? How would I save additional text metadata field and the item name to show it in the TOC? The source code mentions a concept of list renderers. Hi, I uploaded a new version but best first read this because some is experimental and i need to sycn with those involved, so thereofre the uplaod (too many files involved): Indic: - We added indic language patterns ad well as defined the languages but labels are on the todo as are conversions; kauśika is working on this - We also added a tweak to deal with a certain class of indic fonts; there will be a more detailed report about the why and how by kauśika - So, Indic should work as before but with more dedicated support coming. Math: - Mikael and I are stepwise going over the math machinery: constructs, spacing etc in the perspective of what luametatex provided. - We think we can improve spacing (more consistent) but it needs some work and testing. Some gets shifted from engine heuristics to predictable control. - There will be a 'traditional swedish' spacing variant, also as an exaple of how users can finetune and adapt to the math culture they like. (I will likely make one for educational purpose). - All this is done by some fundamental extensions to the math engine (on top of all the already present configurability) but hopefully without side effects. Rest: - I added a few features discussed on the list (itemize and such) which I let others explain (omn the wiki). How to create an index that refers to multiple other books?

I am writing a secondary textbook to be used in public schools. In my state, the textbooks must adhere to standards, such as the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). It is typical for a textbook to contain an index for teachers to check where in the textbook which standards are used. How can I combine the index so it refers to all books? How to manually adjust the sort order of items appearing in a custom index?

I created a custom index that displays a list of "Important Dates" appearing in my book. It lists the year, a short description of what happened, and should show the page number. I'm running into two errors though: First, if the date is the same year, it is sorting alphabetically, example,,,, \dateis{1900s+1912}{Yet another event happened} \dateis{1900s+1912}{Another event happened} ...will print the wrong one first in the index.. 1912 - Another even happened 1912 - Yet another event happened. Is there a way to manually tell it to display one first? I don't want to add visible month and day details, that would be even more confusing to the index as I have to print it in American order. How to achieve true double space text in ConTeXt?

I need to display one article within my book that is in double space, like what is a basic requirement in US colleges for turning in papers. Basically, I need readers to have lots of space above the text to be able to write some notes above every line. This is a line of text. % <-- here is the space between lines % <-- this space here is as tall as a line of text. % <-- here is the next space between lines This is the next visible line of text. The closest I can get is the "big" setting in `\setupinterlinespace`, but it isn't big enough. I've also tried manual measurements in cm, but I have no idea which setting is typographically good. \setupinterlinespace[on, big] \startlinenumbering \input article \stoplinenumbering \setupinterlinespace[off] How can I achieve double space text in ConTeXt? --Joel

How to override ConTeXt-SBL titles, to make all titles everywhere capitalized?

I am a few days from sending a document to a publisher, and using the Society of Biblical Literature style (via the macro ConTeXt-SBL) as it is very close to what I need, Chicago (numbers style) citations. One glaring difference I notice between the two styles is ConTeXt-SBL presents the titles of articles and books in lower case, but Chicago gives them in upper case (I think SBL should too, but maybe as my entire BibTeX file is lowercase, it is not). How can I tell ConTeXt to override the titles, everywhere they appear, so they are printed in uppercase? I've manually marked all of the words that should not be capitalized in my BiBTeX file as with \word{of} so they will ignore any instructions to become capitalized. --Joel

Could you add an option to ignore the header (the first row), so that then "cx=A" cwould work without problems? 3. I haven’t found your module in https://modules.contextgarden.net. How to troubleshoot why my document begins with a blank page?

I created a book that strangely renders with an entirely blank page. There are tons and tons of macros, in dozens of files defined before the document starts, but the document itself starts quite simply with a title page set inside \startfrontmatter. How can I identify what types of preamble information would be causing an entire blank page to render before the document even begins? Simpleslides and LMTX

Hi Aditya and Thomas, Following the hint given by Thomas about fixing the behaviour of the visual counter in the simpleslides module, I tried all the possible styles and found that once the PageNumber is changed into RealPageNumber in the s-simpleslides-*.tex style files. All the styles work fine unless three of them which I describe below. I don’t know how the modules are maintained on the wiki or elsewhere, but if you wish I can send you privately the files where I have changed PageNumber to RealPageNumber so that the simpleslides module can be used ot of the box with LMTX. I've found \xmlstrip and \xmlstripped, but I don't really understand how they work. I've also found out about \ignorespaces\xmlflush{#1}\removeunwantedspaces but this has then to be added to every definition, which would be a bit tedious... There have a been a couple of similar questions by Hans van der Meer about a decade ago, but I couldn't find the answer. Then, \xmlstripanywhere is also mentioned in xml-mkiv.pdf, but it's not explained. I found one example in the sources (https://source.contextgarden.net/tex/context/modules/mkiv/x-html.mkiv?searc…) but what does that do? Is that sort of need for \xmlstrip and friends to work? So, what would be the best way to deal with that situation? (More details below, perhaps there's an easier solution outside of context, because the problem is actually caused by xslt...) This week I updated ConTeXt minimals. Before then, I used the following code so that footnotes to Arabic passages would have parenthesis around them and use the digits used in Arabic texts in the Middle East (e.g. ٠١٢٣٤٥٦٧٨٩). \setupnote [arfootnote] [ headstyle={\switchtobodyfont[kitab]}, textcommand=\footnotenotenumbercommand, alternative=text, ] \define[1]\footnotenotenumbercommand{{\high{(\convertnumber{arabicdecimals}{#1})}}} Since the update, for the 123rd footnote, I now get `(123arabic)` instead of `(١٢٣)`. Elsewhere, I do get the expected output (i.e. `١٢٣٢`) when calling \convertnumber{arabicdecimals}{1232} I'm still relatively new to ConTeXt, so I'm unsure if what used really is correct, or if it was wrong and I now need to find the right way to do it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. —Musa

Itemize columns with MPgraphics: another vertical spacing puzzle

Hi List, I need to itemize graphics when I use those graphics as the choices in a multiple choice question. When I do that in columns, I am getting excess space below the graphics. Spacing issue in itemize

Hi list, When I define an items group, it seems to mess up the spacing for a nested item group. See example below. Any ideas? Hi all, I have updated to the latest version and it seems that the MarkDown module is no longer part of the context installation. I get an 'undefined control sequence' error for \processmarkdownfile and the module files are gone. Is this on purpose? Why has it been removed? Can this please be restored? MWE \usemodule[markdown] \starttext \processmarkdownfile{file.md} \stoptext Manual solution: I have found the files 'm-markdown.lua' and 'm-markdown.mkiv' but I am not sure where/how to install them? I've found an unexpected interaction between \setupheadertexts and the \subject command, and I'm hoping that someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong. Hello again List, Now I’m making diagrams using MetaFun. The MetaFun manual describes an “origin” option for positioning textext’s and label’s on the baseline. However, this dose not appear to be happening with the code in the manual (below). In fact, the diagram in the manual dose not show the textext’s and label’s on the baseline. This is on page 144 of metafun-p.pdf. Maybe I misunderstand what is supposed to be happening here. Thanks! \sub conflict with my def

Hi List, I am converting problem sets from LaTeX to ConTeXt and ran into a puzzling problem. I define \sub to produce subscript text in math mode. (See definition below.) This worked for my ConTeXt book, but fails in the problem sets because in ConTeXt \sub is a special item command, and I use itemize to number problems. Obviously, I can rename my \sub command, but it is already used in hundreds of problems and solutions that I am converting. Is there a way to get my \sub to work in an itemize? I only need it in math mode. I will never use \sub for its ConTeXt itemizing purpose. Thanks! Conditional text appearing in a fixed vertical space

Hello List, I am making problem sets for a physics class. Solutions use the style defined in the example below, and only appear if the “solution” mode is enabled. I am struggling to get a vertical space for the solution which is the same whether or not the solution is printed. Different problems require different amounts of space, so this should be an argument or key-value. In the example below, the first solution has the desired behavior. The second solution has the syntax I’d like, but it doesn’t make the space without a solution. Any ideas would be welcome! I am still pretty new to ConTeXt, so I struggle mixing things like the plain tex \vbox and ConTeXt \start…\stop concepts. Radius attribute and scaling in lmt_shade[ ]

Hi In the code below you will see that I have created a closed path and performed scaling, and shading on the path with lmt_shade [ ]. I have noticed a few features which may or may not be bugs depending on whether scaled is applied to the path within the square brackets or outside. 1) Applying scaled to the path within the square brackets and incrementing the radius key I can see the shaded areas changing, however the first two shapes show incorrect scaling and have ragged edges. 2) When scaled is applied outside the square brackets all shapes are the same size and no ragged edges, however the shading is not showing correctly with increasing radius. Am I missing something? Critical Editions?

I just started switching after long years of typesetting with La-/Omega-/pdfTeX to Context and was exploring the capabilities of the program for typesetting critical editions. So I was wondering whether there is any updated information on how to produce critical editions? Details: I was able to find the article "Ediciones críticas con ConTeXt" (is this in use?) as well as a plan of and a remark concerning critTeXt: "As I learned from a thread on NTG-context from early 2010 we shouldn't expect a dedicated package, but that ConTeXt will eventually incorporate the needed functionalities." What is the status of that? I also found out that for simple editions context already works. For critical editions in my field we need both footnote references based on linenumbers (for prose), but also references to verse number, which can be entered manually. Hi, In the example below I can do \cite[short][hh2010] to get the citation in the short format. But I thought that would also be the standard with \setupbtx[aps][alternative=short] (so that I can write \cite[hh2010] instead). What do I miss? How to create cell data that spans four rows in a table?

I created a table that has some cells span multiple rows. This works good with cells that span an odd-number of rows, but when I try to span 4 rows, the text isn't quite vertically centered. ConTeXt has become a critical part of my academic writing and integral to my research. I'm not exaggerating when I say it changed how I thought about texts and became a major source for my dissertation work. Thank you! I'm trying to get a typescript for setting a text in Libertine with Junicode fallbacks for characters in MUFI, in the private use area. For some reason Libertine roman will not fallback no matter what I do. However Libertine italic will. I can also work around it by using Junicode as a base and forcing fallback to Libertine. My question is: why? What's wrong with Libertine roman? Or my approach? My hypothesis is that there's something about `LinLibertine_R.otf` that's not quite right. I looked in FontForge, but couldn't spot anything. Does anyone have a suggestion as to another place to look? Or something I'm overlooking? Seperate footnotereference and footnotenumber if necessary

Hello dear list, I work with grids and in many cases a footnote on one of the last lines forces and too early page break. See this min-example: \setuplayout[grid=yes] \showgrid \starttext \dorecurse{40}{Word.\\} Word.\footnote{Footnote} \stoptext % Lines 41 on page 1 is empty It preserves the footnote and the reference on the same (next) page, but the not full lines because of early pagebreak are inacceptable in my cases. What I do as a workaround: I seperate the footnote and the reference with \note[] and \footnotetext[]{} – but that is not ideal in a developing and changing document. Is there some automatic method to allow the footnote to set on the next page if otherwise the pagebreak would leave one or more lines at the buttom empty? Maybe some penalty for empty lines or something else? Thank you. Huseyin
