Very strange bug related to textbackground

I have been fighting with this one for ages, and have now narrowed down the culprit, but I do not understand why it happens. However, if I define a totally unrelated textbackground (uncomment the third line), both captions veer off upwards, apparently a distance related to the number of lines in the title (play with the dorecurse numbers to see the effects). It doesn't seem to matter what the background is called, whether or not it is ever used, or what parameters it is given. I have no idea why something seemingly unrelated is having this effect; some reuse of a variable or unreset value somewhere? I would be really grateful if someone could [tell me how to] fix this. staticMPfigures can overrun output streams

The following minimal file overruns the available output streams (version 2006.08.08 and context live): \starttext \dorecurse{16}{\startstaticMPfigure{\recurselevel} fill fullcircle scaled 1cm withcolor red; \stopstaticMPfigure} \stoptext At the end are the last few lines of the log. Here are the last few lines of the last few lines: ! Bad number (16). \openMPgraphicfile ...immediate \openout \MPwrite \MPgraphicfile .mp\relax \... After experiments and digging in the TeXbook I'm pretty sure the cause is as follows: The macro \openMPgraphicfile (supp-mps.tex) constructs the name of a new output stream and allocates a new write to it: \donetrue \@EA\@EA\csname newwrite\endcsname\csname\@@MPG\@@MPG\MPgraphicfile\endcsname Then \MPwrite is set to this stream number: \@EA\let\@EA\MPwrite\csname\@@MPG\@@MPG\MPgraphicfile\endcsname And then it's opened: \immediate\openout\MPwrite\MPgraphicfile.mp\relax which is where TeX complains about the bad number (16). The number gets that high because each static figure goes into a separate file, and each file requires a \newwrite. I thought it would not run out of streams because the allocation is all enclosed in \bgroup..\egroup (in \startstaticMPgraphic) and the \egroup would pop the write-stream allocation stack. But no such luck. The workhorse \alloc (p.347 of the TeXBook) uses a \global assignment to the control sequence. Here's a possible solution that works here but is a hack and may make unwarranted assumptions about control-sequence names. \textext can fail in definitions in \startMPinclusions

Another test file for metafun. I know that textext doesn't work in loops. I don't understand how it's implemented enough to know why, but is the reason for its not working in loops the same as the reason it doesn't work in included definitions (related to static analysis of the code)? The following file gives an example of what I mean. It gives a page saying "unknown", but if one uses draw \textext{directly} directly (the commented-out line) then it works as expected. I see the same behavior with \sometxt{}. [All with context 2006.08.08] ==================== cut here ==================== \starttext \startMPinclusions def yy = draw \textext{via yy def} enddef; \stopMPinclusions \startMPcode % draw \textext{directly}; % would give "via yy def" as the text yy; % gives "unknown" as the text on the page \stopMPcode \stoptext ==================== cut here ==================== Oh maybe here's the problem. The log file says (1.tex is the test file): system(mpost -progname=metafun -mem=metafun 1-mpgraph)...executed. Doing that by hand to get PDF gives a figure containing "unknown": $ mpost -progname=metafun -mem=metafun 1-mpgraph $ mptopdf 1-mpgraph.1 But "texexec --mpgraphic 1.mp" produces the right figure. So why does \startMPcode run the wrong command? Oh I think I know why mpost is being called with \startMPcode: It gets fooled by the label hidden inside the def, so it thinks that there is no need to run the more complicated texexec comment. I tried two hacks^H^H^H^Htests to check this: 1. Added \forceMPTEXgraphictrue right after \starttext, and then the figure came out fine. Not sure whether this method will work if there is more than one figure (\ifforceMPTEXgraphic might get reset to false after each figure). 2. Added an explicit \textext{} in the figure: \startMPcode label(\textext{jj},(1in,1in)); yy; \stopMPcode and the yy produces the right text. Though I still don't know why the staticMPfigure doesn't need either hack. -Sanjoy

metafun: verbatimtex coming too late?

The other one, produced by the drawtext macro, comes out in 12pt. The resulting metapost file is file-fig.mp and the key portions are (with spacing adjusted a bit): def drawtext = label(btex In drawtext() macro. etex, origin); enddef; beginfig(1); verbatimtex \global \loadfontfileoncetrue \setupbodyfont [7pt] etex; drawtext; label(btex Inline in the figure. etex, (2in,0)); endfig; The verbatimtex..etex block inside the beginfig..endfig doesn't affect the btex..etex in the drawtext macro, I guess because drawtext is defined outside of the beginfig..endfig. This is all with context 2006.08.08. I tested it on the live context, but the transcript says "figure texweb-fig.pdf can not be found". A possible solution is to put the verbatimtex at the beginning of the mp file or after the input mp-grph, making it like this: verbatimtex \global \loadfontfileoncetrue \setupbodyfont [7pt] etex; def drawtext = label(btex In drawtext() macro. etex, origin); enddef; beginfig(1); drawtext; label(btex Inline in the figure. etex, (2in,0)); endfig; but does that break other assumptions? Another solution is textext instead of btex..etex, though I don't understand the differences between the two. The main one: textext expands the tex commands in its argument whereas btex..etex does not. But in regular metapost btex..etex does expand, so I'm confused a bit. displayed formula confuses parshape around figure

In the following small example, two squares are cut out of the long paragraph. The first is where the external figure belongs and goes, so no problem with that. But the second removed square is after the displayed equation, and it shouldn't be removed. If I comment out the formula, then the paragraph shape is fine. If I make add a \placeformula before the \startformula, then the equation number goes where it should (below the right edge of the figure), but the area below it is still whitespace. Is it a bug or is there an option to make startformula not interfere with the paragraph shape calculation? trouble with \startMPinclusions[+]

The small test file below uses \startMPinclusions[+], but it produces "TeX capacity exceeded" from what looks like an endless loop. The error msgs are below the file. This is with context 2006.08.08 21:51, and the live ConTeXt (2006.09.17) gives the same error. [I was trying to test whether I could replicate my standalong metapost programming style within metafun. I often have: u := 1cm; % a couple figures using this u:=1cm unit size; beginfig(1) fill ... endfig; etc. % now a few figures with a different unit size u := 1.5cm; beginfig(10) fill ... endfig; ... So I wanted to see whether I could use \startMPinclusions[+] midway through the source file, in between several \start(stop)reusableMPgraphic blocks, to change u between figures. But the error msgs intervened. Anyway, here's the file. Hello list, I have some FLOWcharts in my presentation; due to the RawSteps module, they get rendered too many times pointlessly. Is it possible to "prerender" a FLOWchart -- or any other part of a text -- and reuse it later? \startbuffer \stopbuffer doesn't do this. cu, Adam.

ConTeXt submissions to arxiv.org

I'd asked arxiv.org, the wonderful open-access preprint server used in most fields of physics, which accepts most varieties of TeX in source form (and non-TeX formats in PDF): Are there plans for arxiv to support ConTeXt submissions? One could try a PDF-only submission, but it will probably be rejected as coming from TeX (for which arxiv wants the source)? For almost 20 years I've used plain TeX but got weary doing a lot of page layout by hand, so decided to skip over LaTeX to ConTeXt. With their permission, I include their response. Hello all, Has anyone used ConTeXt to perform interlinearization? I need to typeset glosses similar in appearance to those produced by LaTeX's gb4e.sty <http://www.essex.ac.uk/linguistics/clmt/latex4ling/gb4e>. For example, from the gb4e manual: \begin{exe} \ex \gll Wenn jemand in die W\"uste zieht ... \\ If someone in the desert draws and lives ... \\ \trans `if one retreats to the desert and ... Hi Hans and others, I have tried to find the solution of the problem described by minimal example bellow without success. (Parsing XML database cont-en.xml, every 'cd:command' with 'type=environment' have to be defined with 'start' prefix. As far as I could check it is done OK. But \start.... commands are not known for \shortsetups.) It is needed for Beginners' manual. Please can you have a look at it? Help with mswincontext installation

After upgrading MikTeX, ConTeXt is working no more. Since I'm not using LaTeX anymore (ConTeXt rules !!! ) I decided to use only the mswincontext package. Install New Chinese Fonts on ConTeXt using UTF8

Hello everybody, Time to disturb you again. :) I've search the maillist and the internet to find a solution, but all are about htsong.ttf, htfs.ttf, etc. In fact, I don't think these fonts are nice. I download some other beautiful free fonts and use Hans' ``ttf2uni.rb'' to create the tfm files, enc files, map file and afm file, then I modified the ``font-chi.tex'' file, replacing all UTF relating fontsynonyms and map files to what I've generated. Doesn't work any way. CM Super HF Bright -- encoding?

Good evening. I wish to typeset a document using Computer Modern Sans Bright font. There is HFBright package, and CM-Super package. The first one doesn't include all letters used in the Czech Typography, while the other does. So I'd like to use it. Now, what of encodings supported by the package should I use? I tried: \mainlanguage[cz] \enableregime[il2] \loadmapfile[cm-super-t1.map] \definefontsynonym [Serif] [ebmr10][encoding=cm-super-t1] but all accented letters were spoiled. I've got the same result when I tried to substitute "cm-super-t1" with "ec", "ec-lm", and "t1". What mapfile and what encoding should I use? Your thankful Michal Kvasnicka

Thank you very much, Thomas. Yes, it also works perfectly for me now. I also had this problem for a while but only got to looking at it seriously yesterday. I was thinking in the direction of criterium=all but I was looking at the setuppublications command where it has a different meaning. I have not used texfont in quite a while, but it seems something has gone wrong as this was the output I got. Same result if prefixed with texmfstart. Bib module and sectionblocks

Using the t-bib module I can't get the numbered cite option to work with the sectionblocks \startfrontmatter and the like. When I put the publication list inside one of the blocks I get the number only inside that block. In the other blocks the result is [ ]. If I put the publication list outside of any blocks the number appears only in the bodymatter sectionblock. Is this correct behaviour? And how can I fix the problem? LilyPond module

Hi there! I'm trying to fix the LilyPond module for LilyPond 2.9.x (find my current version attached). One of the problems is, that the EPS/PDF produced by LilyPond is always too big (doesn't obey the ordered dimensions, but is uniformly upscaled). The code after line 250 should shift the notes to the left, if the line is wider than ordered - that worked in previous versions, because it was only wider, if there was text in front of the score. So, if I calculate the scaling factor (ca. 1.5), how can I use it in the module? Sorry, I still can't code in TeX... (At the same time I try to get answers on the LilyPond list how to avoid the scaling.) Greetlings from Lake Constance! Dear all, I have tried updating ConTeXt with the result that any ConTeXt document results in the above error message :( I have re-installed everything (I hope - deleted teTeX from /usr/ local/, and the ipackages folder from the home directory, then re-installed everything using iinstaller) to no avail. I tried both the ConTeXt beta and the stable version. Any ideas what's wrong? Full log file is below. I'm pleased as punch with the new bib module and have been writing my new lists with it all day. There is one thing that I could not make work, and I wonder if it is possible at all. I have 2 entries: [1] Some collected volume [2] Some article, in: a journal [reprinted in [1]]. Is it possible to refer back to item [1] automatically, by sticking the "reprinted in" in a "note" field in the database? I tried a number of combinations of \crossref or so, but couldn't get this to work. Suggestions welcome! Thomas

For one recurring task I first produce a booklet version 5.5. x 8.5in, then a straight pdf 8.5 x 11in, all controlled by modes. The third format is plain text. Others recommend dvi2tty for this conversion. But how do I get Context to produce a dvi file? The Context manual does not make this clear. "Update ConTeXt" + standalone distr (Windows)

With my new work computer I finally gave up on my old but working ConTeXt in TeXLive2004 and upgraded for good to the standalone distribution, run on hard disk. One of the new things I found in the Tools menu was the 'Update ConTeXt' command, so today, when I'm *not* in the middle of a urgent project, I decided to try it out. Good news: for the first time in my ConTeXting career, I managed to update my system without reinstalling the whole thing. And the very new ConTeXt version (today's?!) compiles my ever-important manuals without complaints. Somewhat bad news: without fiddling, the updating gets stuck at unzipping after downloading, because 'unzip' is not in the path and that's it then. So it is not quite on 'Windows dummy' level yet, although real close. Note, though, that the standalone distribution I use is about four weeks old, I might be complaining about something that's already fixed! How I solved it: just today, I dug out an old tool and learned that it ain't gonna work without cygwin. Installed Cygwin, dumped the tool in the bin directory - and realized, that my cygwin/bin also contained a file called 'unzip.exe'. Putting it (cygwin/bin) into my Windows path didn't help (not a recommendable operation for standard users anyway), but then I realized that 'standalone' really is standalone and copied 'unzip.exe' to where my ctxtools.bat lives, i.e. \ConText\usr\local\context\tex\texmf-mswin\bin - and presto, the update went through. It seems to me that it even generates formats on the fly, so with one mouse-click I can get the most up-to-date ConTeXt. How I think this might be solved: In the texmf-mswin\bin directory, there is a 'gunzip.exe'. If I remember correctly, gunzip is fairly simple to use, so this might just mean a change somewhere in the stand-alone package so update would use gunzip to unpack the update files. Or, as it seems to me that different types of 'unzip.exe's are public domain stuff, just include that in the standalone distribution and everything works (no other changes were needed, just bringing 'unzip.exe' into the correct directory. I really like the standalone distribution. Of the many ConTeXt variations I've used until today's date, this year's standalone has been the most Windows-minded and most Windows-friendly in many ways. It works out-of-the-box (has less options to uncheck than Word), seems to live happily even under C:\Program Files and has a logic that I as a non-programming Windows power user find easy to follow. I no longer need to refer to the manual to get as far as to compile a test pdf with standard postscript fonts, now I can concentrate on the layout, not the innards of TeX. So, even though there are slight blemishes and wrinkles to be ironed out like this update thing, ConTeXt in Windows is definitely becoming a nice package for those of us who find that Word just doesn't do what we want. :-) Mari

Hi all, there is a problem with index formatting (I'm using the latest beta, but have no idea if this was always the case or has been introduced recently). My index is in two columns (the default, I believe). If an item has several references, the lines doesn't break, but continues into the margin or into column 2. Lines do break after the en-dash at index ranges, so it looks like the space after the comma is non- breakable. It's difficult to make a minimal example for that, but what I see is this: Virgil 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 instead of Virgil 1, 2, 3, 4, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 Best Thomas

Hi, in XML and alike there is a concept of dedicated start/stop in formatting: <begin heading> ... <end heading > <begin footnote> ... <end footnote > <begin italic> ... <end italic> But in ConTeXt/TeX we have always the same closing syntax "}". That makes reading the code not easier. Is there a workaround to define the closing more precisely (like the examples above), so that finding a "}" in a ConTeXt source lets me distinguish what it's about? But in such a way that the file still can be processed as a regular ConTeXt file? Steffen

String single quote in \tt

Hi, I just noticed that in the preprocessing manual, the single quotes are wrong. Look at the output of \starttext \starttyping let a = 'string' ; \stoptyping \mono{ let a = 'string' ;} {\tt let a = 'string' ;} \stoptext The singlequote character is converted into rightquote. This "feature" is also present in plain tex and Latex. rightquote string rightquote does not look good in program listings. Isn't there some way to turn off these intelligent quotes in \tt? Aditya

Thank you Mojca. The main reason for asking is that I intend to try to convince my employer to adopt ConTeXt as a tool for producing technical documents. In my view, ConTeXt is obviously far superior to MS Word, which we use today, for that purpose. Since ConTeXt represents a way of producing documents that is very different from what our managers are used to, it will, however, be important that ConTeXt doesn't appear more complex than it actually is. A way to hide the abundance of intermediate files from the user would clearly be helpful in that respect. I will give the tools you suggest a try, maybe they are good enough. To remove unneeded files you can use ctxtools --purge [--all] (texutill --purge[all] if you don't have the ruby variant installed yet) although I know that that's not quite the same. (I know some people in LaTeX world who use make files to copy/remove files.) Intermediate files in subdirectory

Hello, Is there any way to specify where the intermediate files and log files generated by context end up? Ideally, I would like my working directory to contain tex and pdf files only. All other files could be stored in a subdirectory. That way all these extra files are kept out of sight but close at hand in case you need them. I don't use grid typesetting very often, but I just noticed that \placepublications confuses proper placement of citatons on the grid. Is this difficult to fix? Hello, I have no idea which version I had installed before that, but after upgrading to the latest beta and using an image filename.pdf the following creates an error: \externalfigure[filename] (worked OK before), while \externalfigure[filename][width=3cm] works OK. Hello, in my scripts i use different kinds of figure, defined as floats cloned from the original ConTeXt figure: \definefloat[afigure][afigures][figure] \definefloat[bfigure][bfigures][figure] In my script environment i use different setups for figure, afigure and bfigure that are not shown here. Using cloning, all figures use the same counter, which is nice. But how can i get all figures into the same listoffigures, so that i can use only one \placelistof*** instead of three? resolved Font problem

Dear all, By installing TeX from the beginning and changing to new font family, "CFF: Invalid caracter" error was disappeared. I think that there are some problems in some korean fonts But the same file had a little problem in Powerbook G4(OS X 10.4.7). I think that it is not the problem in XeTeX, ConTeXt, but in the configuration in Terminal or in the system. Although I have little knowledge about Unix, I'll try to fix it. multiple bibliographies

Dear all (and esp. Taco), in March 2005, there was a discussion about having multiple bibliographies in one document, very much like with the LaTeX package chapterbib. I may be missing something obvious, but I'm wondering whether this is now possible with Taco's module. Maybe a bit of background, and please tell me if you think this is a stupid idea: every term, I have to prepare lists of references for my several classes, and there usually is a lot of repetition and overlap. So I'm dreaming of having one big bibtex database and producing the lists via assorted \nocite commands. But i usually split up these bibliographies into several sections, and I want all items numbered in sequence, so I have in my source: \section{One} \nocite[myfirst] \nocite[mysecond] \placepublications \section{Two} \nocite[mythird] \nocite[myfourth] \placepublications to get this output: A. One [1] myfirst publication [2] mysecond publication B. Two [3] mythird publication [4] myfourth publication Is this reasonable? feasible? Or should I just use the old approach and copy/paste the same references into \itemize lists? Help and opinions appreciated! Thomas

TeX trigger in MP macro

Hi all, Currently I am using \startuniqueMPgraphic{foo} ... if (\DbgFill=0) : fill whatever fi ... \stopuniqueMPgraphic in my MP graphics. \DbgFill (0|1) is just a trigger, which prevents filling in case of visual debugging. Instead of always writing this 'long' form, it should be possible to use a self written mp-macro instead. But my naive approach def dbg_fill (expr p) = if (\DbgFill=0) : fill p ; fi enddef ; doesn't work. I get >> DbgFill ! Unknown relation will be considered false. Footnote Setup

Hi, I would like to setup the footnotes so that the footnote in the textbody shows slanted (or just different) to the rest of the text and in sans serif, to avoid some confusion with exponents. So far what I have tried, does not seem to work. In setupfoonotes, style and numbercommand seem to only affect the style for the footnote at the bottom of the page, but not the footnote inside the textbody. Any ideas on how to achieve this? But this is not a big deal, I modified it and it's working, but it only tells me that: do_digit(7) at page 0 and the field never changes. preliminary support for tex4ht is there (for ConTeXt to HTML conversion)

Just to let you know: if you want to convert your ConTeXt documents into HTML, you can try to install tex4ht and replace the old files with new ones: http://www.cse.ohio-state.edu/~gurari/TeX4ht/bugfixes.html (newt4ht.zip) It works OK with the old perl texexec.pl, the ruby version causes some problems, but none of them are fatal. You need DVI as an intermediate format, so if you use texexec.rb, you have to add \setupoutput[dvi] at the top of the document, otherwise tex4ht won't be able to create HTML out of it. You can compile a document with "htcontext filename" or by manually running texexec --use=tex4ht filename tex4ht filename t4ht filename I cannot give you extensible information about how fonts are set up. In MikTeX it worked out-of-the-box, however I didn't play yet to make it work under the stand-alone distribution, but the following link might be of some importance: http://www.cse.ohio-state.edu/~gurari/TeX4ht/mn32.html Support is not that extensive yet, but sections, external images (as long as they reside in the same directory and if they are in PNG/JPG), natural tables, itemisations, "place[something]", buffers, footnotes, very basic frames, math, ... are somehow working. (The big difference with math is that in LaTeX it is changed into bitmap and in ConTeXt it's currently text-based, so you'll get weird results when using \sum or similar, but I think that that is configurable, so if you manage to play enough with it you might be able to get formulas translated into MATHML, which will be displayed nicely in firefox for example.) And I guess that conversion into an OpenOffice document is very similar. I only asked the author to rewrite the pieces of code that caused problems before and to add some additional basic support to context.4ht, so if you have other requests, you should contact the author of tex4ht, not me !!! He adds support based on user requests (his first response was: nobody asked for improving ConTeXt support so far), so if you want to have better support implemented, feel free to ask him. Adding full support for ConTeXt is a bit too optimistic, but stepwise improvements are possible. Comments wellcome. (I currently have some problems with my computer, so I might not be very responsive to additional questions, but I'll try to fix the computer ASAP. Once that I manage to make it work inside stand-alone distr., I'll report how I did it if nobody else does that before me.) Mojca

Thank you very much Peter. I've inserted these code and when I open my pdf file in Acrobat Reader, it crashed :(. But this is not a big deal, I modified it and it's working, but it only tells me that: do_digit(7) at page 0 and the field never changes. I guess I have to specify some link between the JavaScript variant and the ConTeXt. Can you give me just one simplest example that shows JavaScript code var tempstring = "Yes"; in pdf file? Or you could think I'm very boring so can you just suggest some materials that I can find these techniques? Hans (or whoever could change this), When using startregister/stopregister commands, if the range is only one one page, then while both a [f] and a [t] are written to the tui file, only one \registerfrom command is put in the tuo file. If there is only one range, it seems like the software deals with it nicely. However, if there are two ranges (like in the example below), then the index incorrectly assumes that the first \registerfrom command in the tuo file corresponds to the \registerto command. Since the ending [t] reference for the first \stopregister command is on the same page as the first one, the whole section outputting a \registerto command to the tuo file is skipped. Instead, how about making the code check to see if we have a range that ends on the same page as it started? If it does, then just insert a \registerpage command instead of a \registerfrom command. I've corrected this in the perl version (I had an old version of ConTEXt before today, otherwise I would have worked on the ruby version). I also added support for nesting ranges, which I then discovered weren't supported anyway. (I also had to change the sort order on @RegisterEntries so that [f] and [t] entries would be consecutive, instead of all the [f] entries preceding the [t] entries, but it looks like that was fixed already). Typesetting Math

Hello, I am curious about what does everyone around here uses for typesetting Math? Currently I know more LaTeX than anything else for that, but from what I gather to use ConTeXt in full extent I should typeset things directly in TeX or use MathML. So far I've been some LaTeX-like stuff and it was worked fine, but know I want to do more complet layouts that would involve LaTeX style arrays to align equations in several lines. I'll try asking my question a little bit different: With \setupnumber[formula] [number=davidsnumber] the origin formulanumber(what is its name?) will be overwritten and replaced by davidsnumber. But with \setupnumber[figure] [number=davidsnumber] the origin figurenumbering remains untouched and davidsnumber gets an additionl counter. So there are the following questions: - Why is this different behaviour? - How can I replace the figurecounter by davidsnumber such, that captions and figuretables will use this new counter? - Are the origin formula/figure-counters compatible with counters defined by \definenumber? I am indeed new at ConTeXt and JavaScript. Before I'm shocked by ConTeXt, I used LaTeX for about 2 years, so I'm confused with the conventions between ConTeXt and LaTeX. Numbering of figures (was listoffloats question)

Hi Hans and Taco Playing with figures and listings I detected the following: (ConTeXt ver: 2006.08.08 17:52 fmt: 2006.8.8 int: english mes: english) \mainlanguage[de] \definefloat[SMUfigur][SMUfiguren] \definefloat[BAINFfigur][BAINFfiguren] Those floats are used together with the readily available figure-float in the following structure: \part{First} \chapter \section ... \part{Second} \chapter \section ... ..... This structure is embedded in a project-structure. The figures are loaded from a figure-library. Now if the \completelistoffiigures, \completelistofSMUfiguren, \completelistofBAINFfiguren are issued, each list gets correctly its own incremental numbering. However if the above defined floats are defined in order to inherit from the figure-environment \definefloat[SMUfigur][SMUfiguren][figure] \definefloat[BAINFfigur][BAINFfiguren][figure] then the numbering gets confused. i.e.. the first SMUfigur, which occurs in the first part in chapter 2 gets numbered 2.0. instead of 2.15. Further numbering in the second part gets even more confusing. The first SMUfigur appears in the first chapter and gets numbered 1.-14, which should be 1.9. The next figure, which is also a SMUfigur gets numbered 1.-13 instead of 1.10. This is repeated for the third SMUfigur: 1.-12 instead of 1.11 - Puzzling is the - sign.and the reverse order of the number. Could one of you please have a look at this? Thanks Willi

XML filtering

texexec from parent directory

Hi, I have the following project structure base/ | +--project.tex | +--product.tex | +--environment.tex + subdir/ | +---component.tex If I in subdir and texexec component it compiles fine. If I am in base and texexec subdir/component it works fine. However, if I am in the parent directory of base and texexec base/subdir/component it does not work as the environment file is not found. It seems that the search for files is taking place relative to the directory from where texexec is invoked, rather than relative to the directory where the file resides. Is there some way I can make the component file compile from the parent directory of base? Thanks, Aditya

two questions - rlxtools and an error in presentation mode

Hi, all, 1. I get a pdf output via "*.tex -(XeTeX+ConTeXt)-> *.xdv -(xdv2pdf)- > *.pdf" because some korean fonts didn't get well with xdvipdfmx. There is another problem to call a figure using "externalfigure". There is a black space instead of real figure. In the log file, I can see following lines. -------------------- TeXUtil | running texmfstart rlxtools --identify ./sier-carpet.jpg identify: no decode delegate for this image format `./sier-carpet.jpg'. RlxTools | unable to identify ./sier-carpet.jpg TeXExec | TeX run 2 ----------------------- I checked it in the terminal using "identify filename", but it always said that "no decode delegate for this image format `filename". If I use the commnad "XeTeXpicfile", it is OK. Is there an easy way to resolve this? 2. I got the following error during the ConTeXt process(not with XeTeX). What is wrong in my file? Line numbering

Dear all, Forgive me if I sound naive. I searched the archives, but could not find the solution for my following problem: I need to have line numbers for the text formatted in two columns. The numbers for left column shall appear in the left side and that for right column shall appear in the right side of the page. location=inmargin option to the \setuplinenumbering doesn't help much. Hello, Thank you again for very timely and great answers to my question yesterday. I am finding that implementing things in Context is usually easier than I expect. This is very nice. Our company decided to switch to context from latex recently. It seems to have been a very good decision. Thanks for all the work you do to make context so fun to use. We have one last thing to get translated from latex to context. David Kastrup wrote a bit of latex for us (included below) that magically writes out the absolute xy position of each paragraph and image to a log file for us. We pass some extra information to the commands that get put in the log file for us, but in the end we mainly need a way to get the absolute xy coordinates of the bounding boxes for each paragraph, each section title, each image and each image caption. Is there a way to get this information with context already? Or do I need to get a new module written?
