large greek (math) font?

Hi, I'm trying to make slides in ConTeXt and needs larger font size. However, in this example, the Phi is not showing up (works with 12/14pt) \setupbodyfont[20pt] \starttext This is a greek letter $\Phi$ \stoptext How can I get around that? I also wanted to use sans font and found that modules amsl apparently resets the font to rm. Thanks, Michael

Hi, looking for a solution to avoid short snippets in a paragraph's last line I found lefthyphenmin/righthyphenmin. But as this affects all hyphenations it is not useful. Is there also a command that only cares for the last line of a paragraph, controlling that this last line should consist of e.g. at least 5 characters (all in all, or at least righthyphenmin 4 characters)? ' doesn't make a prime in math mode

Hi, In the lastest conTeXt, typing a ' in math mode typesets nothing and gives an error (undefined control sequence). You have to use ^\prime, instead. Thanks, Ricard Roca

differences of perl/ruby texexec

Ahoi! While processing my LilyPond/ConTeXt songbook, I experience still the same behaviour as in 2006-10: The checking, if a LilyPond buffer/temp file has changed, works only with the old Perl texexec, the recent Ruby version creates/processes the files only if they're missing completely and then still uncomplete: after 20-some songs, some buffers get dropped, so that LilyPond score and ConTeXt lyrics don't match. But I can't simply use the Perl texexec, because that doesn't create table of contents and references. Besides being much slower. Looks like the workaround of first Perl, then Ruby gives the expected result, but it's an annoyance. Maybe it's only a problem of the LilyPond module, but I guess the filechange check is somehow broken in the Ruby version. What details should I provide to track the problem down? hotkey and strut again

Hello, I'm using the following command for typesetting "hotkeys": \def\hotkey#1{\inframed[background=screen,offset=overlay, height=\lineheight,corner=00]{~#1~}} Now I realize, that with an argument without depth (\hotkey{Alt} for example), the text is not aligned. Same result with strut=no,yes,global. With strut=local the text without depth is well aligned, but no more the text *with* depth ("Space" for example). Here my test-file: \setupcolors[state=start] \def\Test#1{ \def\hotkey##1{\inframed[background=screen,offset=overlay, height=\lineheight,corner=00,strut=#1]{~##1~}} strut=#1: bla \hotkey{Alt} bla \hotkey{Space} bla\blank} \starttext \Test{no} \Test{yes} \Test{global} \Test{local} \stoptext Any hint is appreciated! Hi, I was taking a look at the wiki. Personally I was not satisfied by the infos on context for macosx. Having a mactel everything worked in a breeeze with mactex http://www.tug.org/mactex/ So I was starting to put it on the top of the page http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Mac_Installation as the actual simplest way to have ConTeXt, just before GW (which is, helas, unmantained). Database being locked, I thought it was more fruitful to ask the macosx users opinion on the subject Am I missing something? Latin Modern vs Ancient Greek module

The problem is that I no longer seem to be able to produce footnotes when the bodyfont is Latin Modern and I am using the Thomas Schmitz’ ancientgreek module. CtxTools update problem solved

Thanks Peter, Zhichu and Syste I tried Peter's suggestion of renamining the gunzip file to unzip but got the output below. It didn't extract the cont-tmf.zip due to an invalid option but did continue on. So I tried Zhichu and Syste's suggestion and that worked great. Thank you all for your helpful suggestions. CtxTools problem

I use 7-Zip as my zip file tool and have that in my path. I set this through windows control panel>System>Advanced>Environment variables. Which manual for basic drawing?

Hello, I'm writing some simple workbooks for kids in grades 1 to 10 to help them with their math. I've worked with TeX and LaTeX for a while, until I was attracted to ConTeXt for is nice colors and things like that. I need to know how to: * Draw simple number lines, color if possible, label the cm dots or vertical lines, label the number line, fill in the numbers (or miss some out), place it where I want it, and perhaps have the label in a different color * Draw plane shapes like squares, rectangles, triangles and so on, just 2-D plane shapes. Outline in some color, inside with another color. Label them. Place them where I a want them. Sometimes I would like to extend the lines to show that all exterior angles add up to 360 degrees, things like that, and add in the arc and shade it in a different color. When doing basic material like: Solve: 6 + 7 + 4 = [box] Have the equals signs and boxes lined up (or not), two sets of simple add these numbers (or whatever) per column. The answer box could be filled with a light color. Is there a manual I should start with to learn how to do these things, and develop my own macros? First I would just like to learn how to do them, then gradually write my own macros. The material in my TeX Book and my Guide to LaTeX series gives instruction in drawing but it quickly progresses beyond my ability into 2-D shapes and so on. I understand basic things like \move{} and lineto{} and \lvec{} but that's where I get confused. I was wondering if anyone could suggest a good ConTeXt series of readings to come to grips to switching from TeX/LaTeX to ConTeXt and then onto drawing basics and fonts and colors. The folks over at Scribus (a Quarkish Open Source page layout program) are considering using some form of TeX for math typesetting. I mentioned plain pdftex and Context as forms of TeX to be considered as well as LaTeX. The question came up: how does Context comport with AMS extensions? Rotating multiple-page spanning tabulate

Hi, I have a tabulate which spans multiple pages and is broader than \textwidth, but slightly smaller than \textheight. I therefore want to print it 90 degrees rotated, but it still should span several pages and the headertexts should remain at the old place. Any idea how to do this? If this is not possible, what is the best way to temporarily switch to landscape? Tobias

Hello, It seems like \setuparranging[2SIDE] prevents the contents to be created. In the example below, only 'Contents' word is displayed and the rest is lost. Syntax highlighted output

Hello All, I am writing a project report for a PHP project I have completed and I need to include the code I have written. I would like to have code that is highlighted similar to the editor I use (it's Notepad2 but I'm sure most of you know what I mean), has line numbers and is in a monospaced font. Now I know that ConTeXt itself doesn't have support for PHP highlighting but I have found something in the third party modules that is able to use ViM to do what I want. Unfortuantely, I can't get it to work, hence why I am here! I'm on Windows XP and I am using the standalone ConTeXt distribution from the 22nd March 2007. When I came to install the module, I found that it was already included in the distribution. I have installed the distribution under C:\ConTeXt\ along with Perl (C:\perl\) and Ruby (C:\ruby\). Hello, Please, don't take me as too much exacting man, but Mojca's (partial) solution \def\hotkey#1{\inframed[corner=00]{\ #1\ }} is more suitable for me than the Wolfgangs's (complete) one: \defineframed [dohotkey] [strut=yes,corner=00,frameoffset=-0.2em,location=low] \definehspace[hotkey][0.6em] \def\hotkey#1{\dohotkey{\hspace[hotkey]#1\hspace[hotkey]}} The latter add space between surrounding words proportionally to the in-frame space. Hello, Sorry for dummy question, but why there is always no blank line BEFORE, but there exists a blank line AFTER the \externalfigure? Even leaving a blank paragraph before and omitting it after the figure doesn't change anything. :( What is I want the opposite -- a blank line before and tight spacing after? Best, Vyatcheslav

Is it possible to create and place a float in ConTeXt containing both text and graphics? In the following sample code a framedtext is created containing a figuretext but when placing the framedtext as a float on a doublesided page layout the placement at bottom of the odd page has extra white spaces below the box and is completely off on the even page (does not obey the "location=inner" directive. cannot set "et al." to italic

Hi all, When using the bibltx module, I want to make the otherstext "et al." italic. I have tried \setupcite[authoryears][otherstext={\it et al.}] but no luck. After looking in to the mailing list archive, I find that the italic style seems have been made default for most recent bibliography modules(am I right?). I just want to do that in my setup, can I? Hi all, thought this might be of interest to some of you: the tug website has just published an interview with Will Robertson ( http://www.tug.org/ interviews/interview-files/will-robertson.html ), whom some of you may know from his work on XeLaTeX. Will is the author of the fontspec package which offers lots of very advanced options for choosing and switching fonts in XeTeX. XeTeX image dimensioning bug

Hello, I've found a bug in XeTeX image handling. Once it has created a .rli file for an image, it doesn't recalculate dimensions after the image is changed. I tested it with .png image, 1-bit (black-and-white). When I crop the image, both its size and datetime attribs are updated. Nevertheless, running xetex again produces distorted image, stretched to the old dimensions. I can only make xetex to rebuild .rlis by deleting them manually each time. Generally, I don't understand why XeTeX is so stupid that it relays upon the external tool (ImageMagic) to calculate image dimensions. ConTeX performs much better at this point. Hi, it seems that I keep asking the beginner's questions... How do I combine \setupinterlinespace with \definetyping? I'd like to have a verbatim envrionment with less interlinespace then the rest of the document. \definetyping [befehl] [before={\startframedtext[width=.8\makeupwidth, before={\setupinterlinespace[line=10pt]}, background=screen, backgroundscreen=.9]}, after={\stopframedtext}] does not seem to have any effect. Putting the setupinterlinespace to the first 'before=' has no effect either. definetypeface confusion

Hi there, I am a bit confused about \definetypeface. I try to mix some self-installed otf-fonts. Serif works fine, but I can't get the sans variant to work: \definetypeface [chaparral][rm][serif] [chaparral][default][encoding=texnansi] \definetypeface [myriad] [ss][sans] [myriad] [default][encoding=texnansi] \ss does not switch to myriad (instead, ConTeXt uses lmss), but \myriad does! So I think that the font is installed correctly and the typescript is not completely broken. How should the \setupbodyfont look like? My current setup is: \setupbodyfont[chaparral,14pt] What other information do you need? Patrick

[This must be a FAQ, and if so I'll put it on the wiki] I tried to force an active hyperlink to be part of a bibliography entry. If the bibliography style file for that entry type uses it, maybe it will work. But I wanted to put it in the 'note' field so that I could add it to most entries. e.g. @Book{HPL:2000, editor = {John D. Barnsford and Ann L. Brown and Rodney R. Greetings to everybody! It might be a bug, hence this message. The strut at the begining of an item in the itemgroup breaks the line skip (even if it is set on grid) if there is some accent above the uppercase letter. Contrary to normal text, where everything is OK. Changing \lineskiplimit locally to itemigroup fixes the problem. Hi, as I am still new to context I really have no idea how to realize following: After each paragraph I like to have at the right bottom corner a small number. This number shout increase with every paragraph. The counting should restart after every heading (doesn't care which level). How can I realize this? Additionaly I like to use this number with the in-command: Instead of referering only to the heading number (e.g. 2.3.1) I want to refer to the paragraph (e.g. 2.3.1 / 16). But it should also be possible to refer to a group of paragraphs (e.g. 2.3.1 / 16 - 18 or 2.3.1 / 16, 21). Maybe with the possibility to exchange the / with anything else (e.g. 2.3.1 Abs. 17). I am really happy for any hint, tip, implementing strategy to realize this. Of course: if I have finally a working solution i will enter it into the context-wiki. Thanks, H.

Hello Unfortunately, I get dummy boxes instead of .pdf figures in the XeteXed document. I know, it has been discussed already in the list. However, I downloaded and installed the fresh version of TexLive2007 today, and no problems from updating shouldn't arise. The log says: figures : dimensions of ./f01.pdf calculated by rlxtools system(texmfstart rlxtools --identify ./f01.pdf)...disabled. figures : dimensions of ./f01.pdf calculated by rlxtools figures : figure f01.pdf can not be found Surely, the figure is present in the same directory as the .tex document itself. Hi, I can't use opentype font features with XeTeX, e.g. "Palatino Linotype:+smcp" for small caps. It works with plain XeTeX or ConTeXt with \font, e.g. \font\PALA="Palatino Linotype:+smcp" at 12pt \PALA some text... but not with typescripts, like \starttypescript[serif][PalatinoLinotype][uc] ... \definefontsynonym[PalatinoLinotypeCaps]["Palatino Linotype:+smcp"][encoding=uc] ... \stoptypescript \starttypescript[serif][PalatinoLinotype][name] ... \definefontsynonym[SerifCaps][PalatinoLinotypeCaps] ... \stoptypescript \starttypescript[PalatinoLinotype] \definetypeface[PalatinoLinotype][rm][serif][PalatinoLinotype][default][encoding=uc] \stoptypescript \usetypescript[PalatinoLinotype] \setupbodyfont[PalatinoLinotype] so it must be a ConTeXt problem, not a XeTeX one. It works well with the font name alone, without any colon plus features, like "Palatino Linotype". I have organised my (many!) figures in a file listing them all (\useexternalfigure[][][width=...]) I find it very convenient to adjust the width there and not in the \placefigure part of the single chapters. I suppose it is presently not possible to also control the placement (inner, outer and such) from \useexternalfigure. Of course I have no idea whether that would be possible/difficult/easy. But if it's easy to implement, just take it as a (non-urgent) suggestion. Cheers, Jörg

The \frac macro.

Knuth defines a macro for simple fractions such as 3/4 etc. and calls it \frac: \def\frac#1/#2{\leavevmode \kern.1em \raise .5ex \hbox{\the\scriptfont0 #1}% \kern-.1em $/$% \kern -.15em \lower .25ex \hbox{\the\scriptfont0 #2}}% The call is e.g., \frac 3/4. This works fine in Context. However if I undefine the Knuth macro and still use the same \frac call I don't get an error message but the results are quite different. I get both a stroke and a bar between the 3 and the 4. ConTeXt versioning model critique

Moodle follows this model and I always wandered how smooth it was to migrate between releases. Everything is completely predictable. Please, look at http://download.moodle.org/ to get the idea of their versioning. I think ConTeXt needs similar versioning model badly. Hi, Is it any way to set only left and right margin on layout and that width and height of the text are automatically set to the maximal of the possible width (that is \printpaperwidth-\leftmargin-\leftedge-\leftedgedistance-\leftmarginditance-{the same with right margins})? Hello Mojca, Is there need for \strut at all? The definitions \def\hotkey#1{\inframed[corner=00, offset=0pt]{\ #1\ }} and \def\hotkey#1{\inframed[corner=00,offset=0pt]{\strut\ #1\ }} work equally well and I can see no difference. I (wrongly) supposed that \strut version can prevent the frame from growing in height, but when I set offset more then zero, the height is increased too. In your original version, only the offset option was omitted, so that frames was bigger by default. With offset=0pt they look just pretty. (Until there are possibility to control width/height or xoffset/yoffset separately). Thanks a lot. paragraph numbering & in[..] with paragraph resolution

Hi, as I am still new to context I really have no idea how to realize following: After each paragraph I like to have at the right bottom corner a small number. This number shout increase with every paragraph. The counting should restart after every heading (doesn't care which level). How can I realize this? Additionaly I like to use this number with the in-command: Instead of referering only to the heading number (e.g. 2.3.1) I want to refer to the paragraph (e.g. 2.3.1 / 16). But it should also be possible to refer to a group of paragraphs (e.g. 2.3.1 / 16-18 or 2.3.1 / 16, 21). Maybe with the possibility to exchange the / with anything else (e.g. 2.3.1 Abs. 17). I am really happy for any hint, tip, implementing strategy to realize this. Of course: if I have finally a working solution i will enter it into the context-wiki. Thanks, H.

Vertical alignment of framed text

Hello, I want to insert "hotkeys", surrounded by a round frame, into a paragraph text. I almost have achieve it, except of proper vertical alignment. Now it is the frame that is aligned with the text bottom line. But, I want the text inside a frame to be aligned with the rest of line. (I found that \vcenter solves the problem but I don't know how to merge it with \defineframed. Or, maybe there is better solution?) \defineframed [hotkey][height=\lineheight,offset=4pt,corner=00] \starttext Another way to start or stop the device is to use hotkey. I have set up my own typescript file which seems, under normal circumstances, to work pretty well. It can be viewed in all its glory on http://www.grendel.no/misc/type-roffe.tex. it is mainly being used by an accompanying file at http://www.grendel.no/misc/cont- roffe.tex. Hello, I have the problem that the DOI is not hyphenated and sticks into the margin. Interestingly, the biburl is hyphenated. With my patch for t-bib (sent half a day ago), I get hypherlinks for DOI and biburl, but in that case also the biburl does not get hyphenated (nor does the DOI). Any idea what goes wrong here? Hello, I use bibl-aps which has references of the form "[1]". I want to have a global bib index (\placepublications[criterium=all]), but in two sections I want to have a local bib index (\placepublications[criterium=section]) too. The numbers should not be reseted in between. After installing ConTeXt on Gentoo linux, I've begun trying to learn ConTeXt. Hi Hans and Taco, I want a command for writing prescript, something that works like ${}^1 f_t$ but with correct spacing. As far as I know, such a command does not exist in ConTeXt. A bit of a search shows that the "best" definition in LaTeX is by Michael J. Hello, I have pagesize < papersize and use crop marks. What I actually miss is the possibility to put text (Project name, date/time) outside the page. Currently, ConTeXt only prints there the colour bars, the page numbers and the crop marks. Example: http://glossary.ippaper.com/default.asp?req=glossary/term/1972&catitemid= As a work around I currently misuse the footer, but I'm afraid that I will forget to remove it for the final version. (Just for curiosity and nothing I need: Does ConTeXt also support register marks?) Tobias

It seems that this command don't support Chinese very well, the annotations appeared like "lookaheaduchar 73" and something. Then I turned to \tooltip, and this time it showed nothing. Output from texexec

Under TeXLive 2007 version of context when I run even a trivial program I get reams of output referring to the same typefiles over and over again. Then I get a little message (in the log file) about fonts being reset. Then I get messages about the fonts I actually use. The purpose of compiler messages is to communicate something. 13 iterations of the exact same messages does not increase my store of knowledge any more than 1 display. My questions: what purpose does the repetitious listing of all these typefiles serve and can I suppress it some way? using of field failed when arrange subpages

Hi, I've tried Hans' example introduced at mwidget-p.pdf, it's perfect. But when I was trying some subpage arrangements, it just failed. How could it happen? I guess either shiping out subpages forget the fields or something has covered over them. Hi Hans... \unknown is cryptic; why not just... \ellipsis? That's what it is after all, and it's immediately obvious, easier to remember, etc....-) (at least as an official synonym...) Note that you could also have \setupellipsis: '...' is the most prevalent but not the only form it can take. '***' and \emdash are apparent alternatives... Bringhurst's discussion on ellipsis rules might help with creating typographical options... Pagebreak only after stanzas

Hi, i am a fresh convert to Context from Latex and deeply impressed by it's ability to set multiple pages on one page, even doublesided ones. For setting a collection of poems I use \obeylines and \smallskip to arrange them on the page. Pagebreaks should only be possible between stanzas at the \smallskip-mark. Could somebody tell me, how to achieve this? Thanks in advance Chris

arxiv.org: submitting ConText documents

Here is the (just tested!) procedure to submit ConTeXt documents to arxiv.org and also provide source. Suppose that document.tex is the source file, and has fig.mp as the figure file that produces fig.1, etc. 1. Generate document.ps using texexec --dvi --nobackend document.tex dvips -Ppdf document.dvi -o document.ps /* the -o in case of stupid systems that send the output to lpr by default */ 2. Make a directory src/ with document.tex and fig.mp. Then make a .tgz file for uploading. It is produced from this file structure document.ps src/ fig.mp document.tex e.g. by tar -czvf arxiv.tgz document.ps src/ 3. arxiv.org will generate PDF from the PS using ghostscript, so make sure that ps2pdf on document.ps produces a working PDF. 4. If all is well, upload arxiv.tgz as your submission using the usual arxiv.org submission (or replacement) procedure. Ideally you'll do step 4 at least 15 minutes (ideally an hour) before the 4pm (US Eastern) weekday deadline, so that you get back the submission date and preprint number from arxiv, leaving time for step 5 5. Incorporate the preprint number (or URL) and submission date into your document and produce an arxiv stampline along the left. Then remake document.ps and arxiv.tgz in step 2, and replace the previous submission with the new arxiv.tgz. 6. Check that all is well. When the paper becomes official (8pm US Eastern time), users should get three choices for format: PS (what you provided), PDF (generated by arxiv.org from the PS), and 'Other formats', which will offer an option to download source. Of course, all of the remaking should be done by a Makefile. You can see <http://www.arxiv.org/abs/0704.1854> for an example with a Makefile. texexec+mpost cmr10 vs CMR10 trouble using dvips backend

A font-embedding issue puzzles me. First I make a metapost figure that uses plain tex for the label, so it uses cmr10. Then I include it in a context document to get a .ps file. The problem is that the label shows up in Courier (which ghostscript uses when it cannot find the font, I think). Here is the test.tex \starttext \externalfigure[fig.1] \stoptext and this fig.mp beginfig(1) label(btex hello etex, origin); endfig; end The commands are: mpost fig texexec --ps test gv test.ps The resulting fig.1 has these lines: %*Font: cmr10 9.96265 9.96265 65:912 ... (hello) cmr10 9.96265 fshow and test.ps has %%DocumentFonts: LMRoman12-Regular CMR10 But there's no cmr10 (lowercase) embedded in test.ps. If I generate test.pdf directly (with texexec test), then all is well. Is there a magic option or map file line that I need? [ConTeXt ver: 2007.03.19 11:20 MKII fmt: 2007.4.12] Thanks for any suggestions! The reason I'm using dvi and ps is that arxiv.org cannot handle ConTeXt submissions directly. A workaround recommended by the arxiv.org maintainers is to submit document.ps with all the source files in a separate directory (but it won't let you submit document.pdf with all the source files, a behavior that the admins say is a bug or 'oddity' but not one that they'll fix soon). -Sanjoy `Intellectual property is intellectual theft.'

\cite customisation

Hello! Using the bib module for Context for the first time, I wonder if there is a way to change the \cite definition in order to get something like this: \cite[a_schm:73] --> "A. Schmitt, Entrückung" (author name with initial, short title -- the real title is much longer) as it is common in the humanities, at least in Germany. I didn't find anything in that direction in former posts, I hope I haven't missed anything, and hacking the t-bib.tex file is nothing I can manage by myself. Have a nice week! Hi all, There are still a few problems with \numstr when you get beyond the hundreds. Perhaps this is unlikely when it is a page number, but I was interested in using this macro for contracts, where an amount of money is often written out in words. \input numstr.tex \starttext \numstr{-1}\par \numstr{0}\par \numstr{101}\par \numstr{1001}\par \numstr{1000001}\par \numstr{1200021} \stoptext This produces output: null null one hundred and one one thousand one one millionone one million two hundred thousand twenty-one which should be: minus one zero one hundred and one one thousand and one one million and one one million, two hundred thousand and twenty-one In English, the tens/units (if not zero) should be preceded by "and" if the number exceeds 100 (so 101 is correct in the above output). This applies whether the tens/units is truly tens/units, or is a thousands or millions multiplier (120000 = "one hundred and twenty thousand"). The use of a comma after millions and sometimes thousands is helpful but not essential, and it only appears in certain cases. I'll have to think a bit more about a rule for that! The use of a hyphen between tens and units ("twenty-one") is not incorrect but is nowadays probably regarded as a little old-fashioned (but personally, I like it). Hanging punctuation is impressive

Hello, I've just read a about hanging punctuation in Hans' Typographic Programming manual. It is very impressive; now I understand one more cause why Word documents look so ugly. :) Unfortunatelly, I cannot try those examples by myself, since I run TeXLive2007 that don't have Palatino font preinstalled and I'm confident only with MiKTeX in font installing issues. Hello Oliver, Thank you very much. You encouraged me to do some more tests and finally I discovered something useful. The cow.pdf from context examples runs smoothly. My .pdf was saved in Adobe Acrobat 8 Pro and this turns out the main cause. Saving with older versions compatibility and adjusting other settings don't help also. Anything created in this Acrobat fails in XeTeX. Some progress with XeTeX

Hello, I have some progress with XeTeX already (with the version included in TeXLive distribution). 1a) Including external graphics really requires ImageMagic to be installed. 1b) PDF pictures refuse to be inserted for unknown reason but PNGs are handled fine. 2) To use Windows encoding such as cp1251 (for Cyrrilc), two commands in preamble are needed: \enableregime[cp1251] \XeTeXinputencoding[cp1251] Question: what is a application to prepare custom vector graphics? Since pdfs are not included, it should be something more specific. My favourite one, Inkscape, allows export to .tex formatted for LaTex with PSTricks; obvously ConTeXt failes with it. -- Best regards, Vyatcheslav Yatskovsky

XeTeX is broken after ConTeXt update

Hello, To get rid of dummy boxes instead of figures in XeTeX output, I've decided to update the stuff (I already has installed fresh latest TeXLive). I typed ctxtools --update then texexec --xtx --make en and even recreated format files from TeXLive GUI. After all, I get (c:/TeXLive2007/../texmf-local/tex/context/base/type-xtx.tex) ! Font \*myface12ptrmtfrm*:='"mapping=tex-text at 12.0pt"' not loadable: installed font not found. The test file is \enableregime[utf] \definetypeface[myface][rm][Xserif][Times New Roman] \setupbodyfont[myface, 12pt] \starttext Hello! \stoptext I can reinstall the TeXLive completely, but I need to know what is wrong to update it succesfully next time. Grid-keeping list (again)

Hello, I'm still trying to typeset a "grid-keeping" list (or table). Wolfgang Schuster supplied me off-list with the attached module. This works fine except for one problem: Only the first few lines are placed on the grid, then the grid is lost. After the next pass (i.e. after the next "texmfstart texexec testfile"), some more lines are placed on the grid. (So I need many passes to typeset the complete list correctly). Why? Any idea? (I fiddled around with \synchronizegrid, \placeongrid, \moveongrid, and \startlinecorrection \stoplinecorrection, but none of these seems to work.) Actually $>texmfstart texexec --pdf a.tex ==> a.pdf $>texmfstart texexec a.tex ==> a.dvi ie, tex=>pdf or tex=>dvi because pdftex has two native output format. Of course one can use workflows tex=>dvi=>ps=>pdf tex=>dvi=>html by external tools, or one can write a tex macro that write on file whatever one wants, but it's not what I mean. luigi

Killing the space after a section.

I have the file set up with no parindent and one blank line between paragraphs. but I want to kill the extra space after \section headers. The current definition is: \setuphead[section][number=no,style=\SectSans,page=no,after={\vskip 2sp}] ...but the blank line remains. Do I need to use a negative \vskip? \SectSans is a font I set up (bold, sans serif and slightly larger. ) If there is a way to specify both bold and sans serif at a larger (e.g. \tfb) size I would be happy to use that instead. -- John Culleton Able Indexing and Typesetting Precision typesetting (tm) at reasonable cost. That's a lot of code, which is in part dynamic (number of rows for example depends on number of arguments). This works. The problem is, that section-number-prefix is not used for the reference. What is the solution? Btw. I have not found any explanations for the 'prefix' and the 'ownnumber' options.
