processing xml in mkiv

Hi all, xml processing is about the last part of my ConTeXt stuff where I haven't been able to switch to mkiv; I just can't get my head around it... 2 questions: 1. When I try to process a xml-file with my old (mkii) environments, the output looks OK, but I always get a first page with the xml version declaration <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> Is this a bug or a feature? Is there anything I can do to prevent it? 2. I'm really lost with the new xml mechanism. My first problem: In a message from September last year, Hans explained that the command to process xml files is: > The regular definitions still work but processing a file is done > differently: > > \xmlprocess{id}{filename}{optional initialization setup} I used to have environments with which to typeset a bunch of files. Incompatibility bib num style / reference prefix option

Hi, I think I discovered a bug in the 'num' alternative of the bib module. It seems to be incompatible with the prefix=+ option of referencing. The following example gives an unknow reference: % tex file \usemodule[bib] \setupbibtex[database=biblio] \setuppublications[alternative=num] \setuphead[chapter][prefix=+] % <<<< OK if commented \starttext \chapter[chap:one]{One} % <<<< OK if commented Text \cite[test] text. \completepublications \stoptext % bib file biblio.bib @BOOK{test, title = {T}, publisher = {P}, year = {Y}, author = {A} } By the way, the 'num' alternative also gives an unknow reference when \completepublications is not present, while the default alternative is OK. A new feature for \digits: \digits{e-1}

Hi everyone, In LaTeX, the numprint package provides the \numprint command, and is pretty useful when typing numbers. It is quite similar to the \digits ConTeXt command. However, the two commands differ when it comes to this example: \numprint{e-1} \digits e-1 In this case, the \numprint command ommits the \cdot in front of the 1O^-1, whereas \digits does not. My question is: is it a deliberate choice? If not, would it be possible to modify the \digits command in order to reproduce the behavior of \numprint? Best wishes, Morgan

Arrange a pdf file

Hi, I do not understand what is going on here: Earlier one could say: texmfstart texexec --arrange --print=2UP --environments=arrange code- review.pdf with in the environment file: \definepapersize [offset=15pt] \setuppapersize [A5,landscape][A4,portrait] \setuplayout [backspace=0pt, topspace=0pt, width=middle, height=middle, location=middle, header=0pt, footer=0pt] \setuppagenumbering[location=,alternative=doublesided] \starttext \copypages[code-review.pdf][width=0pt] \stoptext Resulting in a neat arranged document. However with the earlier and latest version (march 11) this fails, because the pdf-file (in this example "code-review") is deleted! !pdfTeX error: pdftex (file ./code-review.pdf): reading image file failed ==> Fatal error occurred, no output PDF file produced! mplib

Hi, as some of you may know, there is an mplib project .. last week taco and spent quite some time on exploring the integration in luatex (and therefore mkiv) experiments with loadiing the format, processing graphics and conversion to pdf show a throughput of less than 0.001 seconds per graphic; a usual we did much timing and although experimental, the code is already pretty okay, just to give an idea: mkiv lua stats : metapost processing time - 6.834 seconds (loading: 0.014 seconds, execution: 1.474 seconds, n: 15000) indeed, that's 15K graphics in 7 seconds. so, the next couple of months i'll start providing an adapted mp handling mechanisms. among the possible options are - extensions based on pre/postscripts (instead of specials) - multiple mp engines (\startuseMPgraphic[metafun]{name} and such) so, if you have specific wishes ... now is the time to let them know Hans ----------------------------------------------------------------- Hans Hagen | PRAGMA ADE Ridderstraat 27 | 8061 GH Hasselt | The Netherlands tel: 038 477 53 69 | fax: 038 477 53 74 | www.pragma-ade.com | www.pragma-pod.nl -----------------------------------------------------------------

Strange format error with xetex engine on debian sid

Hi everyone, I'm experiencing problems with the xetex engine on debian sid. I'm using the official packages context and texlive-xetex. Maybe one of you has the same setup and has a hint... When I try to compile a simple "hello world!" document, I get the following message: This is XeTeXk, Version 3.141592-2.2-0.996-patch1 (Web2C 7.5.6) %&-line parsing enabled. ---! /var/lib/texmf/web2c/pdftex/cont-en.fmt was written by pdftex (Fatal format file error; I'm stymied) I didn't change anything to the setup made by official packages. "Missing" ligatures, smallcaps, etc.

Greetings all, I've just tried to retypeset a file with very recent conTeXt/pdfTeX minimals (as of a few days ago). The file is only a year or so old... but it was originally typeset with a combination of TeX installations. It goes almost okay, except that it doesn't show any ligatures (e.g. Th), and won't do the small capitals which the original handled fine. I'm not sure where to start looking.... though there is this error in the log: pdfTeX warning: pdftex (file a_zqd2tu.enc): cannot open encoding file for reading Any ideas where to start? Best, David

References and formulae numbers in upshape

Hi everyone, I'm looking for an easy way to typeset all references produced by the \in command in upshape format (even in an italic paragraph for example). I tried with the 'left' option of \definereferenceformat, but without good results. I would also like to typeset all formulae numbers in upshape. Font question

Hi all! I'm going to start using ConTeXt; I've been planning to do so for a few years, but now I finally have Internet access at home, so it's easier for me to look things up in the wiki (or ask here;)). I have two questions. The first one is connected with fonts. I can't understand ConTeXt's font mechanism, which seems way too complicated for me; could anyone just tell me how I can switch to, e.g., Antykwa Poltawskiego (I'm Polish, so I'd like to use it;)) or, say, Pagella? Of course, I'd also like to be able to typeset Polish texts with them; will \enableregime[utf-8] \mainlanguage[pl] be enough (apart, of course, from adapting ConTeXt to Polish typography customs, like dots after chapter numbers etc.)? I think that that's what the wiki lacks: a beginner's guide on _using_ fonts (not _installing_ them or _messing_;) with them). If someone enlightens me on this, I could write something on the wiki about it. And the second, a bit "philosophical" question: the official manual is not so new. How do I learn ConTeXt best? I mean, are changes to the user interface since 2001 so big that I could run into troubles using the manual? Or are there some changes which make something easier/possible which was difficult/impossible at the time or writing the manual - how do I learn about these? And last but not least - Hans, thanks for such a great TeX macro package! why minimals fail on windows

Hello, I think that I have found the culprit why the installer for minimals fails on windows. If one tries to install minimals to some location with uppercase letters in folder names, rsync fails to create new folders at that location. So if Hans installs them to top folder, it works fine for him, but when I have tested them in "Temp" or "Documents and Settings, it faild". I will try to "CD" to the desired location and then use relative paths instead of absolute ones. rsync on windows is a complete mess ... Mojca

XeTeX: faked bold & slanted + request for ppc users

Hello, I just wanted to let you know that XeTeX now supports both faking bold and slanted (and the binaries on the garden minimals have that feature already). It's generally a bad idea to use it, but in case that you need it only for small portions of text (if you really have no other way out), it could be handy. (Slanted is less evil to use than "bold".) The plain syntax is: \font\a="Gentium" \font\b="Gentium:slant=0.2" % better: \font\b="Gentium/I" \font\c="Gentium:embolden=2" \font\d="Gentium:embolden=2;slant=0.2" Some time ago I have posted an example of the (current?) Hi Taco, I just noticed that my reference list has a quirk with the inproceedings entries reading: Author, A and Author, B. (2000). Article title. In Editor, A., Editor, B. and Editor, C., editors, Title of book, pages 1-10. Publisher. Note that it should read "... In Title of book, editors Editor, A., Editor, B. and Editor, C, ..." URL wrapping

Hello list, I'm writing my diploma thesis and have gotten into a problem with URLs in my references. As you can see in my example, \useURL and \biburl don't wrap... also, using \hyphenatedurl doesn't help much. I've read through the archives, but all postings there don't help. Alan Bowen has/had the same problem described in http://archive.contextgarden.net/message/20070125.173931.a70b45d3.en.html The problem is getting worse by the fact that I'm using BibTeX to produce the references. So, I don't have that many tweaking possibilities. Help... cu, Adam.

Landscape typesetting on portrait page

Hi, I have a document containing a wide table. I would like to have the table rotated 90 degrees, along with the text on that page (which would be in three columns above the table). Spacing on TOC using alternative a

The example on page 15 of the manual shows the title and the page number spaced enough to avoid confusion. When I use similar code the page number is jammed up next to the title. I have tried the text parameter but it has no effect. How do legends work ?

Dear all, I am a new user of ConTeXt. Despite the manuals and the wiki, I am unable to use correctly legends. I tried to modify the legend typography through the \setuplegend command but it does not seem to work. Here is an example I used in Live ConTeXt on the wiki : \setuplegend[bodyfont=small] % or big, 20pt, whatever... \starttext Hello world! \startlegend \leg test \\ test \\ test \\ \stoplegend \stoptext The PDF file produced has no change of font size. Surely I did not understand how legends work. Let me say that my first attempt was to get rid of the "=" sign in the legend. Thanks in advance for your help and sorry if the question is a bit dummy !

link error on contextgarden

Hi, I was following the advice on the wiki before running "ctxtools --update" to update cont-win.zip but the link on the site doesn't work: when clicking on download (http://www.pragma-ade.com/context/current/cont-win.zip) it reports an error 404 object not found. BTW is this the 'canonical' way to do updates? I want to update my context installation (stand-alone CONTEXTediting environment (windows) dated 2007/08/08). Ulrich

t-tikz: problem with colorspace pgfprgb

Hi, I have the following problem with TikZ: When I use the "patterns" library in a tikzpicture environment, the file is compiled without problems and creates a PDF file. However, Acrobat displays an error message "Could not find the ColorSpace named 'pgfprgb'". So the patterns library seems to be a sufficient condition for this problem to occur. By contrast, the problem does not occur when I use pdflatex to create PDF from a LaTeX file with the same tikz-code. I have a standalone ConTeXt distribution and tikz 2.00, but I already had this problem with tikz 1.18. Any suggestions? Thanks, Finn Martensen

lua problem with Windows Vista

Hi, after acquiring a Thinkpad X61 I have takon on the ordeal of learning to use Windows Vista. I have turned off User Account Control and installed cygwin. In order to install context I tried several ways without success: the ContextMinimalInstaller.exe failed by silently not downloading any files the minimals installer failed with rsync complaining when it was unable to create several directories. first-setup.bat ran without error if I manually created those directories but turned out not to have populated the file system when done In the end I unzipped justtex.zip and mswintex.zip and manually updated relevant parts of that tree with rsync from rsync://contextgarden.net/minimals MkII seems to work after this but when I run luatools --generate luatools --ini --compile --verbose cont-en I get the output below which looks like a lua error. luatex version is snapshot-0.22.0-2008021623. I do not know enough about lua to track this error down. I am hoping someone knows what to do. Perhaps there is even someone who can tell me an easier way to install context on vista. ConTeXt with XeTeX (beginner question)

Hello, I am using MikTeX 2.7 with XeTeX 0.997 and ConTeXt version 2008.01.28 21:28. Working off of this wiki page, http://wiki.contextgarden.net/XeTeX I am trying to load system fonts in a ConTeXt document. When I run the file (below), I get an error (further below). One thing I suspect may be part of the problem is cont-en.fmt. In the MikTeX bin directory, I run texexec --make --xtx en This creates cont-en.fmt in the bin directory, but I don't know that that's where ConTeXt expects it to be. Searching the rest of the MikTeX directory structure, I can't find another file with that name. Seems we never posted the conclusion about this problem: XeTeX simply doesn't work with the old Mac Type 1 Postscript fonts on Mac OS X (Leopard or before). The reason is that these old fonts store their data in the resource fork, which Unix utilities like XeTeX don't see. Only TrueType or OpenType fonts will be recognised and loaded correctly. PCs don't have the data fork so old Type 1 Postscript fonts for PCs (with .pfb extension) seem to work. Just copying these to the Mac is no solution, however, because Mac OS X does not support PC-style Type 1 fonts (only the Mac ones with the data in the resource fork), and therefore XeTeX will not find these fonts. Therefore the preferred solution is to use fonts of TrueType or OpenType varieties. For those with access to a font conversion program like fondu (?) fontforge (?) or fontlab (?) it may be possible to convert the old Type 1 font to TrueType or OpenType, reinstall it and have XeTeX work with it in that way.

Background color spaning columns.

I am trying change the background color of some text. It works fine if I am using one column. It also works fine if I am using multiple columns, but restricting my background color changes to only a single line of text in a column. However, if I have a section that I want to I change, and that section spans more than one line in a given column it does not work. What happens is that the background starts to change where you have indicated; however, instead of stopping at the end of the column, the background color changes for the entire text. See the subject entitled "Problem 1" below for an example. Is there a fix for this (and no, using a single column is not a solution.) Problem #2 is the same thing only the background change starts in the first column and extends to the second. In this case the output is even worse. It's difficult to describe, so run the code. Solutions? multiple pattern with xmltools.rb

Hi, I tried several variants to use multiple pattern with xmltool. None of them worked and looking in the script didn't help either (me_no_ruby). A (not working) example: xmltools.rb --dir --pattern={*.png,*.jpg} --output=filelist.xml I need the filelist as base for the creation of a resource library (xml part), so multiple pattern support is a prerequisite here. problem with startitemize and columns option

hz and protrusion

Hi, The latest luatex beta + mkiv support hz and protruding. This not only safes some 40K format file, but the new mechanism also runs faster (some 10% overhead on 300 pages of pure text, which is rare). At some point we need to extend the hz/protruding vectors in mkiv to cover non latin scripts as well (currently they default to factors of 1). As with mkiv, latin glyphs fall back to their shape parent. Under some circumstances hz may not work as expected. Fixing this is on the agenda for the next luatex beta release. new mkiv beta

Hi, I uploaded a beta release. The biggest change is that image inclusion in mkiv has changed. Currently it's still some mix of tex and lua code, and the backend code is somewhat messy (and not complete yet) but it's a first step towards lua doing things. This will only work with a e recent luatex. The advantage is that file searching in lua is more robust (and when many search paths are used, also faster). Image conversion has been moved to lua too, but currently still uses pdftops (also for svg) but that may move to lua as well. Figure libraries are supported by default now. ConTeXt XSLT plugin for MultiMarkdown> anyone know XSLT?

Hi, I have been experimenting with using standard text formats like Markdown and Multimarkdown to produce texts for multiple outputs (HTML, RTF, ConTeXt etc) The basic Markdown syntax is quite limiting; but unfortunately, the more advanced MultiMarkdown syntax does not yet have an XSLT translator available for ConTeXt. It seems that creating one is simple, but that the author needs people with more understanding of ConTeXt syntax than he has. See my request on the MultiMarkdown website http://fletcherpenney.net/Comments_on_Feature_Requests[copied below]. Anyone on the mailing list have enough understanding of XSLT and ConTeXt to help out with creating such a translator? Like the Pandoc converter, it would help to promote ConTeXt towards a broader audience... Thanks Roland Would it be difficult to also create an XSLT file for output to ConTeXt? I know it's not used as much as LaTeX but given the focus on highly customisable ouput, I find it more suitable to writing and publishing needs than LaTeX. Also, the syntax seems more consistent, therefore an XSLT file might not be all that hard to produce? old-style numerals and .

I tried switching to nice old-style numerals for a table of contents, and found to my chagrin that the periods in the numbers, such as the "." in "2.3", get typeset as triangles. You can see the result (verified on the live context in the garden) with \starttext {\os 2.3} \stoptext What's going on? How can I get periods rather than triangles? Hi, there I am still using MKII to do Chinese typesetting. As I mentioned before, User should use this in their source files to produce correct spaces between the chinese characters and english words 中文English\ 中文 instead of 中文 English 中文 or 中文English中文 which is quite annoying. Hello, Hey, it's really fun to code in lua: pattern matching, easy table manipulation and so on, I should have learned it earlier! Since it's my first experience with lua, I would like to ask you for comments on the t-inifile.tex module, attached to this message. Hi, I'm writing a publication in Norwegian containing citations and references. I use \completepublications[criterium=all] at the end of the tex file to get the references. The only problem is that the title of it when typeset show up as "References" in English. Is it possible somehow to substitute that for the Norwgeian equivalent "Litteratur"? Hello, I have to convert an "ini"-file to pdf. On the one hand, it's easy for me to do most things in C, on the other hand, I would like to enlarge my experience with lua and ConTeXt. So here my question to the experts: what languages would you use for the different tasks? In fact, I believe lua could do a good job for some tasks, but I'm not really sure. Hallo to you all. I'd like to use TeXGyre fonts termes and heros. I tried something like this: \usetypescriptfile[type-gyr] \definetypeface[termes][rm][serif][termes][default][encoding=ec] \definetypeface[termes][ss][sans][heros][default][encoding=ec] \definetypeface[termes][mm][math][times][default][] \setupbodyfont[termes,18pt] However, I found that fonts as TeXGyreHeros-Regular are not defined. So I added this: \loadmapfile[qhv-ec.map] \definefontsynonym [TeXGyreHeros-Regular][ec-qhvr][encoding=ec] \definefontsynonym [TeXGyreHeros-Italic][ec-qhvri][encoding=ec] \definefontsynonym [TeXGyreHeros-Bold] [ec-qhvb][encoding=ec] \definefontsynonym [TeXGyreHeros-BoldItalic] [ec-qhvbi][encoding=ec] Now it works---I get not run-time error, and I can see some Helvetica-like fonts (though I'm not sure that the Czech accents are all right). However, the AdobeReader says I use some Quasi-Swiss fonts, not TeXGyreHeros as I would expect. What's wrong? I've got ConTeXt ver: 2008.01.28 21:28 MKII. Hi, in LaTeX I've been able to do cites in a number of different ways, depending on what's needed. In ConTeXt I've figured out how to do \cite[key] Full author list and year (Watson and Crick 1953) as well as how to add reference to the page number using \cite[extras={, page 5}[key]. But I'm wondering if it is possible to get something similar to \citeN{key}, \citeNP{key}, etc. in LaTeX: \cite{key} Full author list and year (Watson and Crick 1953) \citeA{key} Full author list (Watson and Crick) \citeN{key} Full author list and year. The students are ground-zero programmers, all on mac, so I would like to use Nodebox (http://nodebox.net/) (Unluckily no time/space to introduce ConTeXt). I will focus on data visualization, so I was considering to adopt Tufte's classic The Visual Display etc. I've still not read Envisioning Information and Visual Explanations. Any ideas? Adobe Reader, PNG transparency and colors

Hallo you all. I found a strange problem. I create my slides with ConTeXt. Everything was all right before I included pictures in PNG with transparent background. Adobe Reader 8.1.2 under Linux (at least this one) changes colors on every page where such a PNG is included. Xpdf shows it all right. I wonder what could be the reason, and how to solve it. Can you hint me? You can see the behavior here: http://www.econ.muni.cz/~qasar/vyuka/inst/inst-slide01.pdf Notice difference in colors between the 2nd and 3rd page (the 3rd one includes PNG). PNG are created with Gimp. My ConTeXt is ver: 2008.01.28 21:28 MKII pdfTeX is 3.141592-1.40.3 (Web2C 7.5.6) TeXExec is version 6.2.0 All under openSuSE Linux 10.3. As it stands, it seems safe to > say that, if colors don't work, then PGF is quite crippled in ConTeXt. No, the reason for the error is more subtle. PGF does try its best to work with ConTeXt colors. However, there is a difference between latex and context color usage, that gives rise to the error. The culprit in this case is: {$\displaystyle \tan \alpha \color{black}= \frac{{\color[red]\sin \alpha}}{{\color[blue]\cos \alpha}}$} Try this in a standalong context file (no pgf) and you will get an error. First you need to change \color{black} to \color[black]. Even then you will get an error. You need to use {$\displaystyle \tan \alpha {\color[black]= \frac{{\color[red]\sin \alpha}}{{\color[blue]\cos \alpha}}}$} (Notice the {...} around \color[black]). Then everything works fine. Bug? Cross referencing and \setuparranging

Hi, There seems to be a bug with the current ConTeXt (2008.01.28). When using \setuparranging (I've tried more than one setup), cross-referencing doesn't work. You get ?? instead of whatever number you should get. It happens to me with this simple dummy document: \setuppapersize[A5][A3] \setuparranging[2UP,doublesided] \starttext \chapter[chap1]{Chapter One} \dorecurse{4}{\input knuth \par} \chapter[chap2]{Chapter Two} \dorecurse{4}{\input knuth \par} \chapter[chap3]{Chapter Three} In chapter \in[chap1] of this document, there was something to read. \stoptext If you comment out the \setuparranging command, the \in command will work. trouble with indices

I've noticed that with the most recent ConTeXt release I'm unable to make indices. This example fails: \starttext Hello, this \index{copula}is an index. \completeindex \stoptext The error I get is: chapter : 1 \headtext {index} ! Due to some fairly unique customer requirements for bibliography, we're using the simple bibliography discussed in the wiki (http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Simple_Bibliography) While this approach gives us more flexibility, I'm having trouble with a couple of things... 1) The code below wraps the reference number in brackets. How would I make the reference number superscript (like an endnote)? 2) The references in the text are numbered in the order the bibitems are defined in the bibliography, not the order on which they are cited in the text. How would I order them according to the order in which they occur in the text? In my preface, I have \setupinteraction[state=start,color=blue,style=rm] \definehead[LevelBHead][subject] \setupsectionblock[LevelBHead][number=no,page=right] \setuphead[LevelBHead][style={\tf\rm},interaction=yes] and in the source file proper, \LevelBHead{Comment 3: {\em In de caelo} {\tf 481.12--15}\hfill ref.\ \at[fnComment3]n\in[fnComment3]} When I compile the file I get the proper heading and the cross- reference works as it should. What is odd is that this reference is not in blue. All my other kinds of cross-references look and behave as they should. Any remedies for this admittedly minor problem will be greatly appreciated. Problem with Portuguese hyphenation

Hi, In Portuguese, the rule about hyphenating word that contain hyphens themselves is to preserve the hyphen in the next line. For instance, the sentence "Seria bom se eu pudesse tê-lo mantido como amigo, mas por mais bem-intencionado que eu fosse, não foi possivel" should be hyphenated like that (justification adapted just for that example): Seria bom se eu pudesse tê- -lo mantido como amigo, mas por mais bem- -intencionado que eu fosse, não foi possivel. However, Context does that like this way: Seria bom se eu pudesse tê- lo mantido como amigo, mas por mais bem- intencionado que eu fosse, não foi possivel" What should I do to correct that? XML: mapping definiton on the fly?

Dear XML-processing inclined, I was wondering whether with MarkV it is possible to parse an XML file that contains style definitions as well as there usage and create context mappings for them on the fly. In the example fragment below this would mean: - scan the file until hitting the "<office:automatic-styles>" tag - analyze the style definition, find it to be of family text of name T1 requiring bold fonts - construct a context/XML mapping along the lines of \startxmlsetups T1 \bf{\xmlflush{#1}} \stopxmlsetups - keep on scanning, when hitting the style invocation: use the dynamically generated mapping. 16-bit png

Hello, I am having problems including 16-bit png files in ConTeXt. In the following example, red.png is a 800x600 image of red pixels. The resulting test.pdf shows a BLACK rectangle. (The same problem exists with real images.) However, I can produce the desired result with my installation under pdflatex... $ cat test.tex \starttext \externalfigure[red][width=\textwidth] \stoptext $ file red.png red.png: PNG image data, 800 x 600, 16-bit/color RGB, non-interlaced $ texexec test $ cat test2.tex \documentclass{article} \usepackage{graphicx} \begin{document} \includegraphics[width=\textwidth]{red} \end{document} $ pdflatex test2 My distribution (debian + texlive) uses This is pdfTeXk, Version 3.141592-1.40.3 (Web2C 7.5.6) in both cases. PGF and definecolor

Dear all, I am a newbie in ConTeXt. I am accustomed to use pgf in LaTeX and have seen that pgf is also a module for ConTeXt. When using some of my pgf macros in ConTeXt, I had several erros coming from the fact that colors are defined by the "same" command in both pgf and ConTeXt, namely \definecolor[mycolor][r=,g=,b=] in ConText and \definecolor{mycolor}{rgb}{,,} in pgf. It seems to me impossible to use the pgf command directly and, in the same time, impossible to use ConTeXt-defined color in pgf macros. Here is an example : \usemodule[pgf] \definecolor[mycolor][r=0.5,g=0.5,b=0.5] \starttext \pgfdeclarehorizontalshading{myshading}{1cm}{% color(0cm)=(mycolor);color(1cm)=(green)} \pgfuseshading{myshading} \stoptext There is an error with \definecolor and the shading. If you replace (mycolor) by (red) in the shading and suppress the \definecolor, it is fine. Best regards.

exploring register options

Can someone tell me, if the following options of \setupregister are supposed to have some effect (I couldn't see any): style (pagestyle and textstyle work) command (pagecommand and textcommand work) location (Just fixed the texshow description.) I didn't check those (also undocumented): expansion maxwidth unknownreference I wonder who needs alternative b or B: the indicator (index letter) just in front of the first word without any distance is just ugly IMO and decreases readability. Other styles (alternatives) would probably make more sense, like right-aligned (flushleft) page numbers - how can I do that? Greetlings from Lake Constance! latest beta hates most of my fonts

the latest beta refuses to work with most of my (Greek) fonts. I have compiled the very latest trunk (rev. 1006, I think). Difficult to make a minimal example because it doesn't happen with simple "Latin" text, only when there's Greek in the file. The error message is always similar: )</Users/tas/texmf/fonts/opentype/greek/bosporos/BosporosU.otf !luaTeX error (file /Users/tas/texmf/fonts/opentype/greek/bosporos/ BosporosU.otf): Unexpected error: 85 != 92 ==> Fatal error occurred, no output PDF file produced! Does that ring a bell, or should I see if I can find a font which doesn't work in "normal" mode? The fonts are set up like this: \installfontfeature[otf][grbl] \definefontfeature [agreek] [mode=node,language=dflt,script=latn,kern=yes,tlig=yes,trep=yes, grbl=yes,featurefile=greek-babel.fea] \definefontsynonym [Serif] [name:BosporosU] [features=agreek] etc. Thomas

I updated to ConTeXt ver: 2008.02.13 12:11 MKII fmt: 2008.2.13 int: english/ english and got the following: (/usr/local/gwTeX/texmf.local/tex/context/patterns/lang-agr.pat ! Nonletter. l.206 4´ I report this, but my installation of ConTeXt works fine despite the above issue.

Hi, I would like to use in my documents double braces for the footnote – for easily matching entire footnotes with RegEx (thus it can't confuse with the nested braces) ... text\footnote{{this is {\it one} tiny note\index{note}!}} ... and match the entire footnote with search regex for \\footnote\{\ {.+\}\} Is this save? (with initials) and good means there are all author from all \artauthor fields. I have no clue why. Blackboard bold \Bbb and MKIV

Hi all, In my first steps in experimenting MKIV, I typeset the following minimal example \starttext Let ${\bf c} \in {\Bbb R}$. \stoptext with luatex, but the Blackboard Bold {\Bbb R} doesn't appear. The same file is fine with MKII. LuaTeX gives hundreds of warnings such as: luaTeX warning (file /usr/local/gwTeX/texmf.local/fonts/map/dvipdfm/ context/original-ams-base.map): invalid entry for `msbm10': both ps_name and font file missing (for various fonts), but I don't know what are exactly the differences between the ways of handling fonts in MKII and MKIV. Hi all, I just tried to update my ConTeXt installation with the command: sudo ctxtools --updatecontext and after several lines of output I got: […] language : patterns agr for agr loaded (n=16,e=ec,m=ec) (/usr/local/gwTeX/texmf.local/tex/context/patterns/lang-agr.pat ! Nonletter. l.65 α2᾿ ὺ However saying r and hitting return resulted in the installation continuing ("entering nonstop mode…"). It seems that the problem comes from greek letters. Despite this it seems my context installation works fine… that is: ConTeXt ver: 2008.02.11 10:35 MKII fmt: 2008.2.12 int: english/ english So here is the question: is this just a minor bug in the most recent ConTeXt? Adding whitespace equivalent to a -ve sign

Hi all, I am trying to line up some equations on a page and I'd like to insert some whitespace that has the same width as a -ve sign in an equation. Hi, When I use \bookmark[chapter]{Some bookmark} the bookmark appears twice in the list of bookmarks but the bookmark also appears twice in the Table of Contents. \high{} in mkiv

Hi all (Hans!), I have a problem with the \high{} command in mkiv: in most of my typescripts, I have the onum feature set for my base fonts. When I have a number with two digits within the \high command, I get the expected oldstyle numbers; with one-digit numbers, the number is regular (not oldstyle). Since I know that this sounds completely ludicrous, I attach a small pdf example. It's set in Adobe Garamond, and the source is: A\high{1} A\high{2} A\high{12} Why is the onum feature lost for single-digit numbers? I'm completely lost here, can anyone help?
