MkIV, XML and raw TeX input

Hello, I have found a problem when switching from MkII to MkIV -- I am using a XML containing raw TeX (a temporary solution for math, which lasts for four years now) and now, in MkIV, I did not succeed to adopt TeX anyhow. The math is typeset in math style, but obviously characters read from XML have improper catcode set. I tried some tricks with \scantokens, but nothing helped. Here is my XML (the element is root): <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <mathtex>\int_0^\pi {sin x\over x} > 0</mathtex> And here is my ConTeXt environment file (I am using version 2010.05.24 13:05): \startxmlsetups doc:mathtex $\xmlflush{#1}$ \stopxmlsetups \xmlregistersetup{xml:doc} \startxmlsetups xml:doc \xmlsetsetup{\xmldocument}{mathtex}{doc:*} \stopxmlsetups Any hint? Doublesided option is clearing head & footer (MKIV)

Hello all, When I set: \setuppagenumbering[state=start,location=footer] then document is generating OK, with defining header and footer. But when I set: \setuppagenumbering[state=start,location=footer, alternative=doublesided], then header and footer of page is drop out - no pagenumger, no hairlines etc! Where is a problem? Dear list, I thought I would try switching to MkII (+XeTeX), because MkIV looks bad tempered [1], but... * How does one do the equivalent of \setupheads[sectionstopper=.] ? * Why are the spaces of prefix and suffix of \in{}{}[] trimmed with MkII? \starttext \section[one]{One} \in{( sec. }{ sec. )}[one] \stoptext [1] MkIV problems so far: * \in[] bug after \definereferenceformat[][]: http://archive.contextgarden.net/message/20100525.013929.6c0016f2.en.html * Interaction is not working (works fine with MkII): http://archive.contextgarden.net/message/20100525.002043.bb202b94.en.html * Footnotes get put in the wrong page (didn't manage to create a minimal example in the first try). gentium font doesn't work in latest current

Hi all, the current version doesn't work with the gentium font; it is displayed in a tiny size. Test file: \usetypescript[gentium] \starttext Hello \switchtobodyfont[gentium] World \stoptext I don't know if other fonts are affected as well; so far, I've only seen this with gentium. All english sentences are shown well except korean sentences. Color tables in MKIV

Hi! There's an example at http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Table#Background_Colors about color tables. I found that \BL and \CL works fine in MKII. Since I get black background for \BL(which is not gray) and get the following error for \CL in MKIV: ! Hello, \vskip-\baselineskip behaves strangely when put after a section header. Here is a minimal example. \setuphead[subject][after=] \starttext \subject{Header} \vskip-\baselineskip Text \stoptext One would expect to have "Header" overprinted by "Text". This is the case in mkII, but not in mkIV where we get "Header" followed by "Text" on the same line. Is this a bug or a feature? Also interesting is when you add \setuphead[subject][style=] in the preample, then the behavior is like mkII. BTW, if you wonder why I'm using this, I want to put some additional info on the right side of the title when there is room left. Otherwise it should be put just below. Thanks, Vianney

G'day, Shouldn't ConTeXt be stopping on "system : module simplefonts not found" instead of stopping on problems appearing only later, e.g. ! Undefined control sequence. <recently read> \setmainfont Shouldn't error messages like the first one be more noticeable? Why doesn't ConTeXt set an exit code when running in --batchmode or --nonstopmode? And, the initial reason for these questions: has anyone figured out an appropriate 'errorformat' for the 'vim' editor, for use with MkIV? The one at http://www.vim.org/scripts/script.php?script_id=1925 seems to be working with MkII only... -- -- Rogutės Sparnuotos

Problem with dotted fontname ?

I'm using otf fonts from http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/linuxlibertine ie LinLibertine_Re-4.4.1.otf LinLibertineC_Re-4.0.3.otf LinLibertine_BI-4.0.5.otf Biolinum_Re-0.4.1.otf LinLibertine_It-4.0.6.otf LinLibertine_Bd-4.1.0.otf Biolinum_Bd-0.4.1.otf mtxrun is able to show them, but mkiv fails to load. interaction [MkIV]

G'day, The defaults of interaction seem to be a bit strange (are they meant for slides?)... Could someone please help me with these points? A) Clicking on a reference to a footnote should take me to the footnote at the bottom of the page. B) Once at the bottom of the page, clicking on the footnote number should take me back to where it was referenced. A) doesn't work, hence the first question: is there a parameter that I can give to \setupinteraction[], to make links work when the destination of the reference is on the same page as the reference itself? B) changes the zoom level, even with 'focus=standard', and takes me to the previous page. An example: \setupinteraction[state=start,focus=standard] \starttext \footnote{Note 1}\pagebreak \footnote{Note 2}\pagebreak \footnote{Note 3} \stoptext Compile, open pdf, go to the bottom of the document, click on the green '3'. By the way, why isn't the 'focus=standard' parameter mentioned in either Reference/en, or in setup-en.pdf? Found about it here: http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Interaction P.S. hyphenation patterns

Is there anyone here who understands hyphenation patterns? Such a document: \setuplayout[textwidth=0.2cm] \starttext \language[la] Manovich. \stoptext hyphenates 'Manovich' into Ma-no-vi-ch, while it should be Ma-no-vich. The same applies for Italian and Lithuanian languages (in LaTeX as well). Could there be such an omission in the hyphenation patterns? Or am I missing something? Thanks, -- Rogutės Sparnuotos

Lost document background

Hi Hans, under certain circumstances document backgrounds (overlays) are lost. I spend a few hours to find the reason for this and i was able to produce a shorter example: \defineoverlay[test][\tfd text] \setupbackgrounds[page][background=test,state=repeat] \starttext text\page\page[blank]\null\page %\chardef\pageornamentstate\zerocount text \stoptext The problem is that '\page[blank]' sets \pageornamentstate at global level to '1'. Hi, Not sure if it is just me, but the --purgeall option of texexec no longer works in ConTeXt minimals. *.tmp/tui/tuo files are left intact after compiling. No `CtxTools | removed` lines are output in the log. However, the version in TeX Live 2009 works file. Any idea why? - Rio

Patterns in natural tables as background?

Hi, Is possible to put patterns as background in natural tables (bTABLE... eTABLE)? I thought that the answer was positive, but this module still not present in either beta nor current minimal distribution. Hello list, I don't know if it is only an idiosyncrasy of Polish typography but if a chapter ends with a blank page it should not display its number. It would be very useful if this could be an option (if not a default behaviour) of \setuppagenumbering . It's not a huge problem and I think I will not wait for a solution before sending my next book for printing, but it would be nice if it appeared in the future. Best Piotr -- http://okle.pl

Lua and metapost

Hi all, Since ConTeXt has LuaTeX and it contains Lua interpreter so I wonder if it is possible to write Lua code which can generate Metapost code for graphics. MetaLua can also help here. However, I do not know how to develop a Lua library which can be integrated with ConTeXt but then again I have not looked in this matter. As you people may be knowing Prof. John Hobby has written a Haskell frontend for Metapost which generates Metapost code. Having a Lua version of same will help a lot. Hello, I discovered that with one font the \ldots command typesets three colons (:::). I found these lines in plain.tex \mathchardef\ldotp="613A % ldot as a punctuation mark \def\ldots{\mathinner{\ldotp\ldotp\ldotp}} saying the \ldots uses character on position 3A. In the font (type 1), there is really the semicolon on this position. How to make context to use proper character (\period), which is on position 2E in the font without changing this file? Hi, when I place an interactive register in mkIV, and then in the PDF click the pagenumber (in the index), it takes me to the wrong page; it seems to go to the absolute pdf page number(?). czech language

Hi, I add to attachment updated file lang-sla.tex (some heads had wrong translation) and sort-lan files (mkii and lua), which now sort czech index as a norm says. There is just minor problem with MkIV version. Normally in czech accented characters are sorted as non accented, only when all characters are same (eg. "byt" and "být") accented chars. are put after non accented ones. In MkII this is completely fine, but MkIV sorts both ways (sometimes it sorts correct, sometimes not) Just for case I put in the archive file I use to test czech sorting. Problem I describe here, can be seen on words under letter L. And just one last question. I was playing with translation of user interface (for my bachelor thesis) and I wasn't able to add a new one. I tried to put some test translation in mult-def.lua and even modified mtx-interface.lua. I was able to generate messages file (mult-m**.tex) for my experiment, but i can't figure out how to generete mult-**.tex as well. Thank you for answers Tomas Pustelnik

I'm running the latest minimals via the GUI installer on winxp. Multiple citations at one position

Hi, I am citing several references at one position in my document and I was wondering if there is a way to get something like "[1, 3, 9 - 11]" instead of "[1] [3] [9] [10] [11]" (what I would get by using "\cite[ref1] \cite[ref3] \cite[ref9] ..."). POV-Ray

Hi, I have needs of graphics which is very heavy and I am using metapost, metaobj and metauml. However, as you may know the problems which I have reported I think that it would be better if I use POV-Ray for images. Hi, again czech sorting in MkIV is little wrong, I found it out coincidentally, when I was testing it. Order of character with accent is strange. Look at the file in attachment. Is there some way how to set order in which groups are supposed to be sorted, like in MkII? Also I really wonder why letter R is not included in sorting. Tomas P.

Hi, I want to produce a list of math characters for reference. Followed the wiki page it's supposed to be a simple call to \showcharacters. But the following tex file \starttext \showmathcharacters \stoptext produces an empty table. \showcharacters doesn't work either. Any idea why?

In my bachelor thesis I'm describe language support for ConTeXt and when I tried add some experimental language into ConTeXt (I define system constants and add \loadcorefile{lang-exp} to context.mkii and context.mkiv) and when generating format for MkII everything was ok but for MkIV ConTeXt complained he can't find file lang-exp.tex (I paste it in base folder to other source codes). Any idea whats wrong? In MkIV must I change something else as well? Tomas P.

Hi, is czech sorting in MkIV working? Many tools produce not just models for 3D PDF (U3D or PRC), but complete PDF documents with additional JavaScript-programmed actions linked to proprietary toolbars etc. If this extended surrounding of the model is to bee preserved attachfile instead of embedfile approach is a must. As Hans wrote already, there is a new context current. The short news summary: * Many of the stubs for the ruby tools have gone away. If you want one of the old command names back, just create a link from mtxrun to the required name, e.g. copy mtxrun.exe to mptopdf.exe on windows. Eventually all perl and ruby scripts will be gone. Most functionality is already provided by lua variants. * The hyphenation patterns for German, German (old), Hungarian and Spanish have been updated from the tex-hyphen project. * New versions of the ancientgreek, letter, and simplefont modules are included. * New modules (mkiv only): barcodes and punk * Support for shockwave flash has been updated (mkiv only). The backend code has been rewritten and currently only pdf is supported. * The split between mkii and mkiv is getting more complete. Only a few mkii bug fixes have taken place. * Typescripts are now split completely and no definitions are shared; loading of a mkio/mkiv file takes precedence over a tex file. As always, there is a detailed changes file on the wiki: http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Context_2010.05.08 This current context is meant for texlive 2010, but there is a little time before the final freeze of the texlive repository, so there will be a bugfix update in a week or so. If you have pending urgent bugs (especially in mkii) this would be an excellent time to report them. Dear Hans, since you have promissed another hotfix release for TL 2010, here's a list of issues that I had with my thesis and MKIV (some have already been fixed in the due time, but many remained). I probably wouldn't have had those "problems" if I was designing my document in MKIV from scratch, but just recompiling in MKIV didn't work out for several reasons listed below. 1.) Hello, I use "\expandparameters" in a macro definition. -- \expandparameters\setupbackgrounds[page][background={\currentvalue,#1}] -- This works in MkII (texexec), but doesn't work in MkIV (context). Two questions about a mysterious behavior of ConTeXt

Hello, I encountered two mysterious behaviours of ConTeXt mkvi and can't resolve them by my self. So. The first one is: why does ConTeXt behaves differently then I use environment ant then I don't. There are two versions of the same code in the attached files. The test.tex uses environment test-env and test2.tex does not. Then why test.tex compiles while test2.tex does not? The second question is: why in the test-env.tex file ver2 of code compiles while ver1 does not? Thank you, Marius

[NTG Context] Storm (Lido) font support seems to be broken in newer versions of MKII

Hello, the Storm font support by Vit Zyka is broken in actual version of MKII. I spoke with him, but unfortunately he uses old version and does not have the time for updates. I discovered that renaming the enco-*.tex files to enco-*.mkii solves a part of the problem, but there still remains an issue with math typesetting. Context does not know many characters (\times, \neq, ...), boldmath etc. Typescripts looks OK and I don't know enough to look deeper. Hi, Running the following test with the latest context (MK-IV 2010.05.13 12:15) gives the following error. Compiled fine with version MK-IV 2010.04.29 22:30 (side note : integral symbols still not displaying correctly) I was just wondering, is there a ConText test suite which I can use to test the stability of a version ?
