If they appear on the left side, they should end at the right edge of the left column. 2. If they appear on the right side, they should begin at the left edge of the right column. Using \placetable[inmargin] (my best guess), this works fine for case (2), but case (1) begins at the left edge of the left column and can overprint the right column.

Unnumbered titles in table of contents

I modified the sample code for creating unnumbered table of contents entries to include a title page for the appendices. It does create the unnumbered appendices entry as desired, but increments the "chapter number" to B for the first appendix "chapter." How does one accomplish this without this unwanted incrementing? Setuparranging[XY] and arrangement of labels

Hello all, I have a reason to print labels to page in "vertical mode". This means, that labels are place to page underneath first and then abreast (ie top to bottom first and then subsequently left to rigth). According to the example of the way they are now labels numbered : 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 but I want to be numbered: 1 6 11 2 7 12 3 8 13 4 9 14 5 10 15 Exist any simple way in \setuparranging [XY] mode (not in columns mode) for this? If it will not somehow just does not matter. Otherwise I'll do sort of data that I print to the labels (but otherwise I find it quite helpful as I could keep my original gear mechanism). "Large paper" dimensions detecting

Hi All Is there a way to detect of paperheight and paperwidth of "large paper", when I print a "small page" to "large paper" ?? When I use \paperwidth and \paperheight commands, then I get dimensions of "small paper", but I want get dimensions of "large papers" too. Centering labels on A4 page

H..All..o... I am trying centering (horizontaly and verticaly too) labels on the A4 paper, but without success. Is there any possibility make it? nomarking function in MKIV

Hi, I gather the \nomarking function has been removed from MKIV. All I can find out about this is a note on the Wiki, towards the end of http://wiki.contextgarden.net/MkIV_Differences Unfortunately I don't understand the example given. What I want is to replace things like \chapter{Short Title \nomarking{Rest Of Title}} ....so that "Short Title Rest Of Title" appears as the chapter title, but just "Short Title" appears in the TOC, PDF bookmarks and footers. While I wait for a solution of the mtxrun error, another question: I know how to use layers or overlays as backgrounds. How can I get a layer *above* the "normal" text plane? say... \definelayer[PageTop][x=0mm,y=0mm,width=\paperwidth,height= \paperheight,repeat=yes] \setupforegrounds[page][background=PageTop] \setlayer[PageTop][hoffset=10mm, voffset=10mm]{% \externalfigure[koe][with=40mm]} I just found that \framed knows "foreground=", but as far as I could find there's nothing like \setupforegrounds or \setuplayers. An idea: It would be nice if we just could use some number defining above or below main text like in: \definelayer[PageTop][x=0mm,y=0mm,width=\paperwidth,height= \paperheight,repeat=yes,layer=1] positive numbers would be above main text, layer=-1 would be below; 0 is reserved for main text. blurred shadow on images?

I'd like to place some plain photos rotated (say 12°) and with a blurred shadow above some colored elements, i.e. the shadow must use transparency. I guess I could get such using ImageMagick, but is there a possibility using ConTeXt or one of its favourite friends? I'd prefer a solution that works with CMYK data. If there isn't - is the transparency of PNG usable? Since all of the pictures will have almost the same size, I could probably also use the shadow as a single PDF picture and place that behind with a small offset. Greetlings from Lake Constance! CSS glitch in the garden

I guess Safari 5 changed some CSS behaviour, because in Firefox it's still ok: the menu column appears below instead left of the content area. logo position is ok, x positions of the areas seem also ok, just the y position of the menu area is wrong. [metapost] mptopdf from the command line in ConTeXt minimals?...

Hi, I'm a ConTeXt and Metapost newbie, so apologies in advance if this is a stupid question. I've successfully installed ConTeXt minimals on an OS/X 10.6.x system and it seems to be running okay. I'd like to run some metapost examples from the command line and "mpost" also seems to be running well. I've seen references to a "mptopdf" script and there is a Perl script of that name but it looks like it needs to be installed somewhere. direction in columnset (MKII)

Hi all, Is it possible to tell columnsets which column is the first one? I use columnset in MKII to typeset Arabic text in a multicolumn layout and the text starts in the left column. Is there a nice way to force the text to start in the right column? Something like \definecolumnset[arabic][n=2,direction=right] doesn't work. (A nasty, ugly hack is fine too ;-) Example: \starttext \definecolumnset[arabic][n=2,direction=right] \startcolumns[arabic] Oeps. Problem with large space after section header

I am having a bit of a problem with some documents that I am trying to lay out in Context. The idea is that section contents are formatted in two columns, but in some cases Context leaves a huge space between the section header and the content. I have included a sample context file (test.tex) and the output I get from running: context test.tex using the newest version of context minimals. I expect "1.2.1 Test SubSection 1" and "1.2.2 Test SubSection 2" to be on the same page as "Problem Header," but, as you can see, they aren't. I appreciate any help in sorting this out. I'm new to Context, and not particularly experienced in typesetting either, so if you have any other advice I would appreciate that too :). Thanks, Jason Earl

pre-fuzzy blank slides

Hello, I am using the pre-fuzzy style for a talk and I get (in principle) randomly blank slides. I thought that it could be due to the fact that I use \page whenever I finish a slide and that that could be conflicting with \Topic{} but removing all \page did not help. Has anybody had this problem and/or could you suggest a fix for it? I do not paste here the whole presentation because I do not want to spam the list. Thanks, Pau

PDF Meta Tags

I received the following message from a publisher: [The PDF generator] you used flattens the file such that is has no meta tags whatsoever. We need the tags that give page separations, page count, header info, etc. How do I get those meta tags enabled? Would setting \interaction[state=start] do what's needed? Running minimals-beta. Ok , I changed the subject: I just installed ConTeXt minimals, but my fonts are not found now: "define fonts > font with name Barnard-Oblique is not found" font files are there, but some how context can't see them. Problems with Mark IV (MacTeX 2009)

Hi, After finding out that line numbering works different in Mark IV I tried using this version on Mac OS X via MacTeX 2009. I modified TeXworks to use "texexec --lua $filename" as for ConTeXt. I have updated MacTeX to latest version and actually I still cant' make it work. I tried following this guide: http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Install_Mark_IV Except I didn't set any environment variables and ctxtools fails: CtxTools | unable to fetch cont-tmf.zip When updating MacTeX I got multiple failed messages in log regarding luatex, pdftext and etc. Overall all update failed in MacTex re-configuration. I will can make standard ConTeXt document (don't know how to call them), but not the new ones with Lua support (Mark IV, I think it's called). It looks like Mark IV does not work by default? The last line of the log is: MTXrun | pdfview methods: default okular xpdf, current method: default, MTX_PDFVIEW_METHOD=<unset>Cannot contact server acroview On the command line pdfopen and pdfclose work as expected. Hello, as suggested in the thread about PDF Page Labels, \pdfcatalog can be used to manually modify the PDF Stream. However it seems that this does not currently work in MkIV (from the minimals, beta branch). In MkII it does exactly as I though (the resulting PDF contains a Catalog section with the content I passed to \pdfcatalog). In the PDF produced by MkIV however no Catalog can be found. When the bibliography items in my document are typeset in the publication list, the attribute "pages" (from the .bib file; a range of pages is specified, e.g. "pages = {12--34}") is sometimes preceded by "p." (e.g. for "@incollection"), sometimes by "pp." (which I would think of being correct) and sometimes there is nothing (e.g. for "@article"): no "pp."/"p." and not even a point afterwards ending the bib item. Is this behaviour intended? I took a look inside the file "bibl-ams.tex" where (afaik) the setup is defined. The calls of \insertpages there differ a lot: \insertpages{, p. }{. }{. } %from book, l.203 \insertpages{\unskip, p.~}{. }{\unskip. } %from incollection, l.306 \insertpages{\unskip, }{}{} %from article, l.165 \insertpages{\unskip, \fixpp.~}{. }{\unskip. } %from inproceedings, l.344 It seems to me that the last one actually is what every call should look like. Hi, all. How do I know (due Lua) that the counter has not been defined in ConTeXt (through the command newcount)? I am trying testing : if tex.count.mycount == nil then... or if tex.count.mycount == 'error' then... then when counter isnt defined due \newcount\mycount, then test ending with error message. Is there something like that available in ConTeXt? Currently I would need e.g. a midaligned squiggly line or "* * *" or something to determinate the bottom of the text on the last page of my CV. typefile behaviour

Dear ConTeXt list, I encountered a weird behaviour while using typefile. Here is a minimal example, to illustrate what I am saying. We have two files, test.txt and test.tex, respectively (between the ---------). ----------------- 1 2 3 4 5 ------------------- \setuptyping [before={\startframedtext}, after={\stopframedtext}] \starttext \typefile[start=2,stop=4]{test.txt} \typefile[start=2,stop=5]{test.txt} \stoptext ------------------- Now, if you save those lines into test.txt and test.tex, and if you compile the tex file, you get the exact same boxes. As far as I understand it, ConTeXt works as I expect when there is no empty line, meaning that it typeset the lines between start and stop. However, when there is an empty line right after the last line, ConTeXt also includes it. I don't really understand that behaviour. Perhaps it is something to do with different paragraphs, I don't know. However, what I do know is that it is annoying. It adds an empty line at an unwanted place, and it looks unprofessional in my text. So, my question is the following : 1. Why does it behave like that? Is that a bug? 2. synctex and --result

Hi! I try to use ConTeXt with synctex. I generate two versions of my paper, so I use --result option. Context renames the .pdf file, but not .synctex.gz, hence inverse search doesn't work. As a workaround, I renamed the "draft for me" version to the default output name.

Hi Hans, It seems that in the latest beta, ConTeXt ver: 2010.06.18 11:26 MKIV the description environment is broken: the header does not change after the first invocation of the defined description: in the following minimal example the first invocation uses Lemma, and the second and third one remain with Lemma instead of Theorem or Corollary. However with mkii everything works fine. Hi, I have a couple of pages where I want to align the sidefloats with the sectiontitles. I can’t figure out how to do this properly. Is there any way to achieve this except for the following? \defineenumeration[theorem][...] \defineenumeration[exttheorem][theorem][number=no] What do you think about the following syntax: \definedescription[mydesc] And after that \startmydesc[label] \stopmydesc or \startmydesc[title=yes][label]{md:a} \stopmydesc I think that it should not be hard to implement using \doifassignment, but I don't want to work on the patch that will be never accepted upstream. page numbering with make-up-pages

Strange Font problem

Hello, since one of the last betas (I guess two weeks ago), a strange problem appears in my current document. The first ~10 page are completely fine (i.e. as usual) but the following ~20 pages have some kind of a font problem. The font looks bolder/grainy when zooming out in Acrobat and also the scrolling is pretty slow. After these pages, it's fine again. I don't see any specific trigger, there's nothing "special" on these pages. Sorry that I can't give any more details, but I wasn't able yet to pinpoint the problem. Even producing a long test document using \dorecurse didn't provoke that problem. I made a screenshot of one of the aforementioned spots where it switches - in this case from "wrong" to "right". http://aksdb.homeip.net/ConTeXt_Font.png I guess you can easily see that the font on the upper page (the wrong one) looks different from the page below (the right one). They should be the same and it even looks correct when zooming further in. Both pages are consecutive and there is no code inbetween (no manual break, nothing). Has someone seen something like this before and can give me a hint where to start looking for the trigger so that I can maybe produce a smaller test example to help find and fix the root cause? HI ALL! This maybe discussed before. I ask anyway. I'm having a personal homeserver that is accessible anywhere with linux LAMP installed. Is there some way to install minimals and have a webpage with a function similar to context live but with mkiv support. If I'm sitting on a computer with no context installation, it would be nice to typeset my .tex files and receive a downloadable .pdf as a result. Also I want to have possibility to do an online conversion from other markups to context markup like "pandoc". I can do some shellscripting or php scripting if someone have some hints in that direction. An elisp script for converting LaTeX to ConTeXt in emacs

Hi all, one of the biggest drawbacks to writing my thesis in ConTeXt was that much of the material had already been written in LaTeX, and I didn't really want to have to go through by hand and change all the syntax. Borne out this laziness was atoctx.el (which originally meant 'AMSTeX to ConTeXt', but perhaps now should be called 'latoctx.el'). It's essentially a set of macros that look through a document and tries to convert lots of different LaTeX syntax to ConTeXt. At the moment, it handles the following environments: equation gather align footnote enumerate figure and the following macros cite emph There are still bugs, and several more environments would be useful, but if anyone thinks that it would be useful to them, then please go ahead and use it. (Even better, if you'd like to help me write more of it, drop me a line.) I know that it's written in elisp which perhaps already excludes a majority of people who don't use emacs, but I didn't have the patience to write it in any other language. Two \framed texts, one below the other

Hi all! When I say \framed{a} \framed{b} there is some space between frames. How can I turn it off? I want to say something like \framed[bottomframe=off]{top left \hss top right} \framed[topframe=off]{center} to get +----------------------------------------------+ |top left top right| | | | center | | | | | +----------------------------------------------+ Is there a better way to do something like this? color in MKIV and Metapost

Dear All, the small example attached behaves in mkii (texexec) as expected. The string "CONTEXT" as well as a little square are colored. Using mkiv (context) only the little square is colored. The "CONTEXT" string is black. Tested on two different linux systems, both 64 Bit. -- CentOS 5, Context 2010.05.24 13:05 -- Debian - Squeeze, Latest Beta from Yesterday (13.06) What am I missing?
