I try to use Minion Pro as main font: \usetypescriptfile[type-adobe] \usetypescript[minion] \setupbodyfont[minion] To my irritation, ConTeXt/LuaTeX complains about not finding the font. […] (/usr/local/texlive/2010/texmf-dist/tex/context/third/typescripts/type-adobe.mkiv) define fonts > font with name minionpro-regular is not found define fonts > unknown font minionpro-regular, loading aborted define fonts > unable to define minionpro-regular as \*minion12ptrmtf* […] However, Minion Pro is installed on the system, running $ mtxrun --script fonts --list --all --pattern=minionpro* shows lots of entries. However, there is no such font as minionpro-regular, but minionproregular (without the hyphen): Running "$ mtxrun --script fonts --list --all --pattern=minionproregular" yields "minionproregular minionprocapt /usr/local/share/fonts/MinionPro_Capt.otf", while "$ mtxrun --script fonts --list --all --pattern=minionpro-regular" returns an empty result. What am I doing wrong? Ligatures on Linux Libertine Bold Italic

Hello there. I'm pretty new to ConTeXt and I'm really impressed by your work. So a huge thanks is due. Anyway. Today I found that Linux Libertine Bold Italic doesn't create the ligatures. These work on XeTeX. I took a look at /tex/texmf-context/tex/context/base/type-otf.mkiv where the libertine typescript is defined, but I couldn't find anything wrong. The fonts are the one shipped with the latest updated TeXlive 2010 (they are correctly loaded). With other fonts the ligatures for Bold Italic are created, so I'm a bit lost. Is my setup broken somehow? Or the fonts are broken? Or is it a bug? Hi, I would like to define something like this: \def\startSolution{\startmode[solutions]...} \def\stopSolution{...\stopmode} But when I use \startSolution and \stopSolution, and mode solutions isn't enabled, I get something like Runaway argument? aaa \stopSolution \stoptext ! ConTexT conversion to html/rtf/odt

Hi there, I'm in a situation where I have to do some documentation which should be available in html and rtf/odt (would be nice to have). I do not need any fancy stuff, just simple things: ordered, unordered lists, verbatim, tables etc. As a ConTeXt newbie I thought this might be a good idea to get into ConTeXt. However, I'm not quite sure how to create HTML from ConTeXt. What I tried so far: Created a simple document: \starttext \section{Some section} \startitemize[1] \item bla bla \stopitemize \stoptext Tried htcontext test.tex and got: ! Undefined control sequence. <argument> <dl class="dd-\itemlevel "> \HCode ...ode \leavevmode \fi \ht:special {t4ht=#1 }\fi \a:itemize-group ... {<dl class="dd-\itemlevel ">} \global \let \end:dd =\empty \dostartitemgroup ... {\dodostartitemgroup [#2][]} \fi <to be read again> \item l.6 \item bla bla ? Perhaps there is some stupidity from my side. If yes I appreciate any corrections. I have two questions to \margintext \setupinmargin[left][separator=:,width=2cm,line=2] \starttext %foo \margintext[left]{margin text} \input knuth \stoptext this works fine, but when I uncomment the line with %foo, then the marginal note is placed in second line of the following paragraph. Why? Must \margintext always be the first statement in a paragraph? I do not understand the meaning of the optional argument separator? TeXLive2010 with tlcontrib Herbert

Dotted leader in index entries

[Reposting because I think my last message got mangled.] Hello all. I'm using Mk II. When I use the following setup to get dotted leaders between an index entry and its page number: \def\MyIndexTextCmd#1{#1\dotfill} \setupregister[Index][n=2,textcommand=\MyIndexTextCmd,distance=1em,alternative=A] it works okay producing output like this: Index entry.....123 except when the entry text is just long enough to fill up the horizontal space, pushing the number over onto the next line. What I get in that scenario is this: Index entry text... 123 This is no good. What I really need is for all page numbers to be at the right hand side, with leading dots. So I'd like a solution to produce either this: Index entry text... ....................123 or preferably this: Index entry text..............123 At the moment I'm putting forced line breaks before the last word to achieve what I need, but I would really like to automate this! a ghost in the columns ?

Hi, please have a look at the minimal below (tex+pdf): We always have a kind of heading followed by a block of two columns. But suddenly on page 6, entry "Cassius Dio" has a much larger vertical space above than "Novellen" for example! Why? And how can this be avoided? Any help very much appreciated! Hello, although I guess this is one of the really basic tasks, I'm not able to setup successfully page layout for double-sided printing. My idea is to have different free "space" leftwards and rightwards from the text area. I just want to get different width of the left/right area: 2.5 cm left (for binding) and 2 cm right (odd pages); and the same values mirrored for even pages. My code is: --- \setuplayout[location=doublesided] %\setuplayout[location=duplex] %\setuplayout[location=middle] \starttext \showsetups \showlayout \showgrid \dorecurse{1}{\input knuth\par} \stoptext --- You can see the result: 1. The left margin is "pushed" left, so only 2 cm of it is visible (but the margin should have 2.5 cm - see listed value of "leftmargin"). - And obviously there is 0.5 cm extra "space" rightwards from the right margin. Moreover, if any horizontal "pushing" is present, I'd expect shifting to the right to get a bit more space left, so that to allow binding on the left side. (I tried the horizontal shift to the left was the same for single- and double-sided setup.) 2. Horizontal "pushing" (shifting) is the same for even and odd pages. - I succeeded to remove horizontal "pushing" by setting the "backspace" value to 3 cm. But it's strange to me that one has to set this value explicitly, when keeping all other values default. - I'm still not able to provide switching the size of the left/right "space" for even/odd pages. I like the wikimatrix for Wikis and i thought it could be nice to have a simple matrix for TeX. When I change the offset from \c!voffset=\dimexpr\letterstylevalue{\v!address\v!layer}\c!voffset-\letterstylevalue{\v!backaddress\v!frame}\c!height\relax] to \c!voffset=\dimexpr\letterstylevalue{\v!address\v!layer}\c!voffset+\letterstylevalue{\v!backaddress\v!frame}\c!height\relax] (addition instead of subtraction) everything is fine. Blekko is a new web search engine, which lets you set slashtags to limit your search. So I've made a slashtag to limit searching only on ConTeXt-related sites. E.g. http://blekko.com/ws/termes+/silverhook/context (= typing "termes /silverhook/context" in the search field) would search for the term "termes" on those sites only. Difference between \skip and \unskip

Hullo, can someone tell me what's the difference between \skip and \unskip and when to use them? I've already checked the wiki and the references, but cannot find a definition of either. Here's a use case that's giving me headaches for quite some time: In my bibliography I often have items that are missing one or two fields (e.g. legal texts with or without amendments etc.) and I have to tell ConTeXt to skip those. "Key" words translations

Hello, is there a file which defines translation of some words? E.g. when I use \mainlanguage[cz], ConTeXts gets to know to write "Kapitola" instead of "Chapter" etc. It would be nice if ctx knew also: "Table of Contents" = "Obsah" "Reference" = "Literatura" "Index" = "Rejstřík" I believe these word may be changed during \setup<...> routines (I did not do that yet), but it would be nice to have defaults translated... Bug in mkiv with Times?

manipulate ttf-fonts loaded with luatex

Hello, I'm currently a bit playing around with the idea to add some support in the (LaTeX) package "chessfss" (which handle chess fonts) for fonts loaded with the luaotfload package. As luaotfload use the context code to load the font I'm hoping that someone here can help me with some of my problems. Chess fonts are highly unstandard. The different authors of the fonts did put the chars quite randomly in the character table and also used various glyphs name. So in the psfonts.map almost every font has its own encoding vector: chess-pirat-lsf ChessFigurinePirat " ChessPiratFigEncoding ReEncodeFont " <chess-pirat-fig.enc <chess-pirat-fig-raw.pfb So to be able to use ttf/otf-fonts directly I must "reorder" the glyphs in the fonts (without changing the original fonts). As a first step I was able to substitute glyphs with a .fea-file: feature renc { substitute K by "glyph name of king"; } renc; But doesn't work all the time. E.g. the pirat font (http://www.enpassant.dk/chess/downl/pirat.zip) shows already some on the problems of the project: The king with the glyph name c140 is shown in fontforge on position 140 with a "å" above. The å is shown on position 229 with an "Å". luaotfload seems to think that there are two "aring" and so the temp-lua-file of the font contains in the unicodes table the enrty "c140={ 229, 140 }" and my substituation rule gets me an "å" instead of the King I want. I get the correct substituation if I manually change the entry "c140={ 229, 140 }" to "c140=140. So here the questions: 1. How can I make this change after the font has been defined? I tried to find table entries which do contain this setting and change them, but without luck. So either I didn't find the right table or I need to execute some "reload" funktion. 2. Is there another way to reorder the font than using .fea-files? E.g. by changing some font entries? 3. I can print the king by using its position with \char140. But how can I print the king in a document by using its glyph name (c140)? 4. Quite a lot chess fonts are incomplete. Is is possible to insert glyphs from other fonts? Btw: The font Alfonso (http://www.enpassant.dk/chess/downl/alfonso.zip) gives an error message. Probably the font is faulty somehow (I wouldn't be surprised) but perhaps it also indicates a hidden bug, so I'm mentioning it: \documentclass{article} \usepackage{luaotfload} \begin{document} \font\test={name:Chess Alfonso-X} \test \fbox{K} \end{document} ! Hi Hans, this is a feature request regarding fieldstack based animations. Since i want to use fieldstacks in one of my modules i’m looking for a simple to use interface to produce animations, for the moment i create a symbol for each frame and put them together with a fieldstack. For latex there is a package called animate [1] which provides a environment to produce animations with buttons for navigation (just a take a look at the examples in the manual, code is not relevant for us). I wrote now a short dummy module [1] to demonstrate how this could look in context, the first file [1] contains a few example, the environment is inspired by \startoverlay/\stopoverlay but it needs a alternative method to allow loops (look at the third example in this file). The second test file shows which navigation buttons i want for such a module, the are “first frame”, “previous frame”, “play” and “stop” animation, “next frame” and “last frame”. As a alternative one can produce a animation with a overlay button only with a symbol on the first frame to indicate a interactive element. Hi, I'm trying to access a few glyphs: --- \usetypescript [cambria] \setupbodyfont [cambria] \starttext n-ary summation (base), U+02211: \char"02211 n-ary summation (next), U+F0419: \char"F0419 n-ary summation (next), U+F041A: \char"F041A cyrillic capital letter ka, U+0041A: \char"0041A set minus, U+02216: \char"02216 mathematical script capital a, U+1D49C: \char"1D49C minus sign with falling dots, U+02A2B: \char"02A2B \stoptext --- but the summation substitutes as well as the script letter fail :-( Their numbers I took from: --- \usemodule [fnt-25] \usetypescript [cambria] \setupbodyfont [cambria] \starttext \showmathfontcharacters \stoptext --- I also tried --- \starttext \showfont[cambria.ttc][all] \stoptext --- but apparently there are no summation glyphs in the table at all. Hi, i want to print many (lets say 2 x 4) file cards on one DIN A4 paper. I played around with the BusinessCard[1] example. Thats close to what i need, but all cards are cloned there. Hi all, I am just about to typeset a book of a russian author written in english, but with a lot of russian literature listed in the bibliography: The titles of theses sources are russian but in latin transliteration, like this ... O koordinacii mezhdunarodnyh i vneshnejekonomicheskih svjazej subjektov Rossijskoj Federacii But even though I assigned "\language[ru]" the word "vneshnejekonomicheskih" eg. does not get hyphenated. And there are some dozen titles more that show the same problem ... Is this (to not hyphenate) because of the transliteration? Do I have to choose another \language key? Yours, Steffen

Stop with an error signal

Hi, I want to write a macro that checks for some settings and if the settings are wrong stop the current compilation and terminate with an error message. Right now I have \def\ERROR {\writeline \showmessage\??externalfilter??{forbidden}\getexternalfilterdirectory \batchmode \normalend} This prints the error message on the terminal and exits. However the exit status (the value of $?) is 0, if the tui file has changed the document is compiled a second time anyways. How can I force context (the macro package) to exit with a status of 1 so that context (the program) does not attempt a second compilation? Thanks. Aditya

Grid typesetting

Hello Contexters I've been typesetting (mainly books and reports) in LaTeX for ca 15 years now. Recently I got really fed up with various problems related to typesetting on grid in LaTeX, and this is how I learned about ConTeXt. You can't imagine how excited I was when I started reading about it, especially given my recent grid-related LaTeX frustrations. Now I'm past all the ConTeXt manuals available in English, but still with no practical experience. ConTeXt is still a wild animal to be tamed, for me, but with a lot of sex appeal. So - it's grid that attracted me. But I can't get it - the grid - in my test document. I find it hard to understand what the below commands (which are hardly documented) do: - placeongrid, - moveongrid, - start/stop|linecorrection and how is "framed" related to them. I experimented with various settings/combinations of the above, but none seem to actually FORCE my content on the grid. The explanation in the manual is not clear for me, there is no explanation in the Wikia. What I need is a way to FORCE a line of text onto nearest grid line available (so that baselines match), for example: - on page opening a chapter, so that all body text is forced on grid regardless of the amount of space taken by headers etc., - on any page, when the text is being interrupted by figures, tables, formulas or fancy breaks. Is there an easy way to accomplish that? By 'easy' I mean other than manual setting the height of headers/figures/tables/formulas/fancy breaks so that following text sits on the grid (which is more or less also doable in LaTeX). Default length units - can I change them from pt to bp or dd?

Can I [easily] change the output of commands like \showlayout to show dimensions in bp/dd rather than pt? As a traditionalist I try to stick to dd/cc standard. For compatibility with others I sometimes have to use bp standard. I find TeX native standard of pt useless and very confusing. I would be happy to never see those pts around any more. For once, I have absolutely nothing to do with its existence, but I am a regular poster there, as are some other context users (Aditya, Patrick). I think this is a nice a idea for a number of reasons, but two reasons stand out. First, if someone asks a question on Google and finds a link to tex.se, they will see a nice website (as opposed to say a mailing list archive) and that will therefore promote TeX in general. Second, this gives us a nice opportunity to promote ConTeXt in a place that is mostly searched by (beginning) LaTeX users. At the moment, there is not that much content about ConTeXt on tex.se, which I think is a shame. error in beta

Just loaded the latest beta announced by Hans. I missed a few beta in between, but now this error arises in \xmlstrip where it wasn't there before: nil value. ! Hullo, from what I can understand I'm using \footnote correctly (i.e. as on wiki), but if I generate the document with 'context' every footnote instance is just a direct copy of the first footnote. If I generate it with 'texexec' though, the footnotes are generated as expected. Is that a MkIV bug, feature or just me being stupid? Hi. Please consider the attached example. I want to put a mark (how many points will give the answer on a question) on right margin. I define command '\pointsMark' to do that but it fails if I put it inside \start/stopformula. Could someone give advice how to put such mark on right margin even for equation? P.S. Neither equation would have number. P.P.S. displayed properly. I have also tried it using "ec" and "default" instead of "texnansi" (cf. \starttypescript [math] [fourier][texnansi]) with a similar result (in these cases except a Greek letter all of math part is missing in the pdf output). improper sizes with pixel unit in MPinitialisation

Hi, I started using 'MPinitialisation' to store some global variables. Much easier than passing them over and over again to MP macros. Sadly this way is inaccurate with the unit 'px' (no such problems with 'pt'). See attached example. The frame gives the exact size, showing that the MP graphic is 'out of bounds'. Hi Florian, it doesn't depend on the tex file, it's the same with \starttext Hello World! \stoptext It also doesn't depend on context options (--batchmode etc.) And it doesn't seem to depend on the way of calling it from Python/ Django: - directly with subprocess.Popen (several options), subprocess.call, subprocess.check_call - indirectly via shell script (that contains just the context call) - with context or mtxrun (didn't try texlua directly yet) - with setuptex or setting TEXROOT and TEXMFOS directly (in the environment for the subprocess call) I can imagine that it has something to do with SElinux settings, didn't dive in that yet. I can call context manually as the same user that's running the server process with all the options. An Exam Preparation Issue (framedtext and overlap problem)

Hi, I'm so new in the Context's voodoo world and I'm trying to build an exam from a questions database. A regular question has 5 options and only one correct answer. I want to prepare a good looking pdf file, the most important requirement for the pdf is that, a question and all of its 5 options must be on the same page. So I found the startframedtext command and start to work on it. Now I have 16 questions and their options in the tex file, but on the Page1 only questions 1-6 shown and question 6 divided. On the second page it continue from question 16 (7-15 doesn't shown). I've no idea about this, if anyone can show me a way to found real problem I'll be very glad. Hi, I have some general graphics, which I would like to access from the lua side. The graphics are added to the graphic search path via \setupexternalfigures[locations={local,global,default}, directory={<path to graphics>}] What I now need is a way in lua to locate the graphics (no inclusion) and to get the full path of the file. I have looked into 'the base' but couldn't find a way to do it. Peter

Hullo, since many texts (academic and otherwise) have to comply with a certain word or character limitation and just using 'wc' on the whole source file(s) would not be relevant, is there a way to do this in ConTeXt? Also it would be very useful, if it was possible to get some more detailed statistics. Is it again something I'm doing wrong or don't understand? Modes in MkIV minimals (bug?)

Hullo, I'm working on my thesis (and it's "pf_ul" styling[1]) and I tried to include modes. The thing is that modes seem to be set right and work when invoked in CLI (e.g. 'context --mode=osnutek,zaslon diplomska.tex', but ConteXt seems to completely igonore lines in text such as: \enablemode[osnutek] Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong? A bit weird \underbar behaviour (MkIV only)

The code \usemodule[units] \starttext $y = \underbar{20 \Mega\Bit\Per\Second}$. \stoptext produces space before y and it and y get underbared. MkII produces an expected result. On the other hand, in \starttext $y = \underbar{g a w}$. \stoptext underbar doesn't appear (other letter combinations I tried seem to work). MkII can't compile this and ends with ! Is there a way to justify the line? I mean no word hyphenation, and words are justified like in office word. My boss is quite angry to see hyphenations at the end of lines in my file. What a hell.

MAPS journal module oddities

The first strange thing that I notice is that the subtitle is set in a much more prominent style than the title. This seems backwards to me. The second concern is that the numbers for footnotes (but not the notes themselves, thankfully) appear outside of where they should (which is in the Notes section, with \plcefootnotes). Hi again, is there a way to specify the frame offset of ‘\framed’ for vertical and horizontal orientations separately? When I run this example with mpost amd mptopdf, everything is fine. But running it with context mkiv, using its mplib I get an error.
