Hi With the latest beta (2011.04.22) I cannot compile my thesis any more. I think I've narrowed it down to this minimal example: %%% \starttext \startpart[title={Table of Contents}] \completecontent[criterium=all] \stoptext %%% ! Macro argument handling problem!

Undefined control sequence I'm trying to write a few macros with optional delimited arguments with key-value sets and started reading the appropriate pages, but can't figure out why this example fails to run. First and last lines on a grid

Dear all, I'm having a little trouble with grids and page layout… I'm trying to align the first and last line of a page properly with the frame of the textblock. That is, I'd like to position the first baseline a certain distance below the textblock's upper border (say, the height of a "C" or even "É") and the last baseline a certain distance above the textblock's lower border (say, the actual depth of a "g"). How would I do that? I tried playing with "\setupinterlinespace", however, its options "top" and "bottom" appear to set relative distances. Once I change the leading funny things happen… like an empty first line. Also I'd like to typeset the page number flush with the lower border of the footer frame. How would I achieve that? Please find the source code of my attempt below. Hi, citing multiple authors with \cite[author1, author2, ...] is no problem but referencing multiple figures/sections does not work: \in{Figures}[fig:one, fig:two] Is there a way to circumvent repeating successive \in[...]? What about automatic page ranges for \at? This could be interesting... Thanks, Florian

Arrows in latest mkiv

Hi Hans, It seems that the latest beta (version 2011.04.20 16:23) has a problem with arrow in math mode: I am not sure about it, but I think with the previous version this problem didn't exist. Latest beta, missing stmary10 while loading "fallback modern"

Hello there. Given the following minimal example: \setupbodyfont[11pt,libertine] \starttext test \stoptext (where the libertine don't have the math fonts) In the logs I found the following problems: fonts > fallback modern mm 11pt is loaded fonts > defining > forced type afm of stmary10 not found fonts > defining > font with asked name 'stmary10' is not found using lookup 'file' fonts > virtual math > unable to resolve name mapsfromchar fonts > defining > forced type afm of stmary10 not found fonts > defining > font with asked name 'stmary10' is not found using lookup 'file' fonts > defining > forced type afm of stmary10 not found fonts > defining > font with asked name 'stmary10' is not found using lookup 'file' While I was updating the minimals I noticed the deletion of stmary10. The appendices envrionment and title in toc

I want to include appendices part in MKIV. The appendices should prefixed by Appendix, like Appendix A, Appendix B. I use \setuplabeltext [appendix=Appendix ] \startappendices \component chapters/appen-01 \stopappendices appen-01.tex is the appendix file. The appendix part tile is correct, but in the toc, the title is something like Chapter A. How to solve this problem?

OT: drawing graphs: Asymptote, Gnuplot, MetaFun, …

Dear ConTeXt folks, I need to plot some random walks similar to [1], but for example I need to emphasize certain sections of the plot and put labels and notes in there. Could you recommend a tool to easily accomplish that goal with easily. I guess it can be done with any of those as seen by the demos [2][3]. I only have little experience using Gnuplot and I have never used Asymptote or MetaFun. These three seem to be well integrated with ConTeXt and I guess in the end I could just create the image files and include these in to my ConTeXt source. The only downside of Asymptote I found so far is, that there is no mailing list. I've added this to the TABLE wiki since this example above is a table, however I suspect this would work for any "frame". Is there a reason why this doesn't work with mkii? Fastcolor and linenumbering in MkII

Hi, In MkII, linenumbering stops working if \dostartattributes with a color is used inside; for example: \setupcolors[state=start] \getparameters[test][color=red,style=] \starttext \startlinenumbering \dostartattributes{test}{style}{color} Why no number? \dostopattributes \stoplinenumbering \stoptext The output of the above does not have a line number. Strange bug with arranging

Hi, I am using MkIV 2011.03.30, and arranging is not working correctly. For example, \setuppapersize[A5][A4,landscape] \setuparranging[2SIDE] \starttext \subject{One} \dorecurse{4}{\input knuth\relax} \subject{Two} \dorecurse{4}{\input tufte\relax} \stoptext which gives the attached output. Notice that page 4 (right hand page of actual page 2) is empty and the text is moved to page 5. Any idea what is going on? Aditya

Dear all, I'd like to write a label with a subscript in MetaFun where the subscript is a variable. I tried in several way but not succeed. The best which I made is for i= 0 upto 8: label( "z" & decimal i, z[i]); endfor; So the output is z1, z2, z3, ... And, the following commands are not working. label(btex z_i etex, z[i]); no error but the value of i is not listed. label(btex z_\MPvar{i} etex, z[i]); error Is there a good way to do that? With the old one I had a frame 1pt, and just made a 2pt metapost frame around the last row. With the new example of yours I've came up with a minimal example that I've attached. I have to do the table setups, since I'm making the table via a macro, but for the simplicity I left that out from the minimal example. The problem is, that every even row seems to have thicker right/left and top borders, why is that? With both solution if I just draw a thicker bottom line it goes off on the right and left side. rules with different thickness

Hi I stumbled upon this while making a table with rules, where I wanted to have a particular row highlighted with a thicker border: http://www.mail-archive.com/ntg-context@ntg.nl/msg33678.html Since this was posted more then two years ago, I just wanted to know if anything changed on this front? Having r|l|t|b-offsets I thought I could use the same for rulethickness, but according to this, not yet. The metapost workaround works still fine, so for now I'm using that, just want to know what's the status on this. Adam

How to produce a dotless i with ConTeXt?

Hi, I need to use some Turkish in language support training and want to typeset everything using ConTeXt (MkIV). Anybody any idea how to apply the Turkish alphabet (e.g. the dotless i), while the main language of the document is English or Dutch? I for example tried to generate the soft g, the g with the caron (inverted circumflex!) above it, using \gcaron, which just works fine. But I'm unable to generate a dotless i! Thanks! Hi I have problems with special characters in URL's. What I wanted at first place, is embedding a google chart image, so I've tried this: \starttext \externalfigure[{https://chart.googleapis.com/chart?cht=p3&chs=250x100&chd=t:60,40&chl=Hello|World}] \stoptext which fails with: ! Undefined control sequence. system > tex > error on line 3 in file test.tex: Undefined control sequence ... as far as I can tell it's the "|" symbol where it has problems. I came across this thread: http://www.mail-archive.com/ntg-context@ntg.nl/msg25806.html but no solution there either. Then I've tried to move from externalfigure to useURL, but the same problem exists. For obvious reasons I don't want to use url shorteners, as with this kind of URL I can manipulate the resulting image inside the tex source. Any thoughts or solutions? Adam

Difference between texexec and context when using indent

no line break in CJK text in footnotes

Hi Hans, At least for the beta 2011.04.03, the line break can not work for cjk text in footnotes. Widget and mandatory Rect field?

Hi I have a PDF with widgets and everything's fine with it, and I'm testing it by opening it with Adobe Reader. Now I had a look again with other viewers and when I open it with evince (poppler based), then it gives me some strange errors like this: "Error: Annotation rectangle is wrong type" Though it opens it fine and no problems at all. I googled a bit and found a bug report on this: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29954 There it is said that its ConTeXt's fault, as "It has a Widget annotation without the mandatory Rect field". Is it really so? I couldn't find any threads on this on the list. Can someone confirm this, can this be even fixed? Augmented matrix?

How can I typeset an augmented matrix, that is, a matrix where some columns are separated by a vertical line? "\VL" doesn't seem to work within a formula. Hi Hans, With the latest beta (ConTeXt version 2011.04.13 09:23) on the minimals I noticed a small bug with the command \date in mkiv: when the mainlanguage is st to [fr], the command \date gives: 14spaceavrilspace2011 that is the word « avril » is replaced with « spaceavrilspace ». With [it] or [es], there is no such problem. In mkii everything is fine. Hello all, there are some problems with the citecommand in the latest beta. I always get a LuaTeX error... Actually i was in the middle of narrowing down a bug where a \cite command in a caption produced a entry in the publication list of the caption text (and also made that sometimes interaction did not work with some references in the text), so i tried to update to the latest beta and now the document does not compile any more. Hi, In my earlier MkIV minimal ConTeXt installation (dec.2010) I used the following in my preamble to activate oldstyle numbering: \usetypescript[schola] \setupbodyfont[schola,8pt] \definefontfeature [oldstyle] [default] [onum=yes] \addff{oldstyle} but this doesn't seem to work anymore in my recently installed minimal ConTeXt installation (ConTeXt ver: 2011.03.30 11:21 MkIV fmt: 2011.3.30 int: english/english). Hello. I use a few tools from ConTeXt such as mptopdf, and whenever I run them they generate a 'luatex-cache' folder directly under my user folder, but this luatex-cache folder is not hidden. How can I configure ConTeXt or luatex to tell it where the cache folder should be? (I looked up the archives and docs but I didn't find anything about this.) Typesetting url's in ConTeXt?

There's a wiki page all about typesetting url's, but I can't seem to get them to work. All I want to do is to display a url in a typewriter font, for document printing - I don't need a live link. What I want is for the output to be similar to that provided by LaTeX's url package, so that, for example: \url{https://This_is_a_url.html} would be appropriately typeset, including all such ascii characters as underscores. Hacking around I've come quite close, with the only problem that when the underlining begins at the start of a paragraph there gets an empty (grid) line inserted before it. I want to define 'inside' and 'outside' margins (i.e. left and right pages are symmetrical, not the same). Reading the document 'co-pagedesign.pdf', ConTeXt talks about 'left' and 'right' margins (and other measurements). At first I thought this must be either a 'representative' left or right page (the diagram on page 3 doesn't say which), but experimenting suggests that there really is no concept of left and right pages here (despite the incredible detail that the document goes into on arranging pages etc which must understand this). In short this is a basic requirement. How do I solve it? James

Hello, I encountered a problem running an example by MkII (which seems to be default) rather than by MkIV (see related discussion on http://www.ntg.nl/pipermail/ntg-context/2011/058369.html) Although in many examples (I mean <context> ... </context> wiki source code) in doesn't matter which Ctx version is being used for compilation, sometimes it may make a difference. So I seems to me to be good: - to provide both compilation engines, MkII and MkIV, - to provide a <context> attribute, e.g. <context engine="mkiv"> or <context mark="iv"> or something like this to force the specified Ctx to compile. Hello, how to define a macro to take the new-line character as end-of-parameter? The following macro: \def\T#1\par{#1} takes everything until \par (or empty line as it equals \par primitive) as #1, so the following is valid: \T abc def\par \T abc \T def (#1 becomes: "abc def", "abc" and "def".) How to define the same macro to accept end-of-line as end-of-parameter? Hi If I have two frames within one frame, how can I vertically align the first (well, or both) framed to top or middle. Thanks Peter! You are right it is easier to draw both the wave and the line in Metapost. And the dx=-\cutspace is just what I needed for left pages! I striped the frames out of the code and placed just the graphics in the layer with a reuseMPgraphic. Also, I pulled out the definition of the wave into a MPinclusions. Sorry to bother again, but how do I change the style of the footnote number that is IN THE TEXT. Not the ones under the line, I can manipulate those with numbercommand. Hello, I want my footnotes in columns, but there is apparently no line breaking going on (text from the first column is overlapping the second and so on). I have –simplified– the following: \starttext \defineframed [action] [width=5cm, height=3cm, offset=none, frameoffset=.5\linewidth] \action{} \stoptext What I would like to do is to let the user input some text and display it in this frame. (In reality there will be more frames.) When the text is to big to be displayed in the frame, it should be rejected. This is so that the document can be modified with the text from the user. I also would like to save the input from the user in a file, so that it can be used later again. Is this possible? -- Cecil Westerhof

No indent after a flowchart

I am using indent, but do not want indent in the first paragraph. A paragraph after a flowchart is always the first paragraph. Is there a way to have no indent in that paragraph? Hello, could it be that in the latest beta (ConTeXt ver: 2011.03.30 11:21 MKIV) the font feature 'small capitals' is broken? Can someone who has Minion Pro test this, please? Side effect of virtual fonts

I made two copies of luatex-fonts-demo-vf-1.lua named vf-a.lua and vf-b.lua (The original file can be found in \context-minimals\context\tex\texmf-context\tex\generic\context). In both copies I changed the three fonts the virtual font uses as basis to "Arial". In vf-b.lua I added after the for-loop which manipulates the caracters this code: f1.characters[98].width=3000000 f2.characters[98].width=3000000 f3.characters[98].width=3000000 f1.characters[97]= nil f2.characters[97]= nil f3.characters[97]= nil It has the expected effect when I use vf-b: It enlarges the width of the "b" and removes the "a" from the font. But it not only affect the vf-b-font, it also affects vf-a: If I load vf-a *after* vf-b, it also loose the "a" and the width of "b" is changed. In a older version of context, where the lua used "fonts.tfm.readanddefine" instead of the new "fonts.constructors.readanddefine" I got an side effect too, but only on the "a". My questions are 1. Why do I get the side effect only when f1, f2 and f3 call the same font? Chance (because of the math random) or something else? 2. How can I make a virtual lua-font which is free of such side effects? 3. I got errors when I tried to use the old version of the virtual font with the newest context. Is "fonts.tfm.readanddefine" now deprecated? -- Ulrike Fischer

Position of MetaPost graphics

Dear list, I'm trying to make some fancy chapter headers. With MetaPost I drew a wave, which I'd like to place in the margin. I've read details.pdf and metafun.pdf, but I don't manage to get the positioning right. The wave should begin where the bottomframe ends and move on to the page border. Is it a better idea to draw the bottomframe in MetaPost too? How do I take care of positioning in that case? Absolute positioning is not an option, because the length of the chapterheads can be two lines. It should also work on other paper sizes (A5 in particular). Kind regards, Tim Steenvoorden

wikimedia2context: any existing solutions?

Hello, Before I start reinvinting the wheel ... I have a feeling that some people were already doing some basic wikimedia2context syntax conversion. I would like to create PDF out of some wiki pages with very limited number of used commands. I have created a simple ruby script that fetches all the contents that I want in the final PDF, all that is left to be done is conversion from wiki to tex syntax: - replace =...= with \section{...}, ==...== with \subsection{...}, ===...=== with \subsubsection{...}, ... - replace ''...'' with {\bf ...}, '''...''' with {\it ...}, '''''...''''' with {\bi ...} - all lines starting with a space should be printed verbatim - lines starting with * should be bulleted itemize - lines starting with # should be numbered itemize - some trivial replacements like > - some links: [[abc def]] should become symlinks to begining of sections with that title - [[Image:chap1-f2.jpg|frame|Figure 1.2: Cylindrical scanner]] should become \placefigure{Cylindrical scanner}{\externalfigure[chap1-f2.jpg]} - a few tables Maybe there is more, but I think that this covers the majority of contents. The solution doesn't have to be too robust and I don't care what language it is written in (I just need a printed manual and I have no problem manually tweaking the pitfals after the conversion if needed). I can start writing regular expressions, but in case that somebody has an almost-ready-to-use solution, that would be much better than doing everything from scratch. (A Lua function that would simply read in a plain wiki file would be nice, but I have never tried to gain deep understanding of "parsing" in lua.) Thanks a lot, Mojca
