Footnote numbering pro page

A footnote is placed (at least the way I use it) on the same page as it is referred. But the numbering of the footnotes is continues. How can I make the footnote numbering reset to one at every page? -- Cecil Westerhof

no os numbers in lucida?

I am fairly sure the Lucida font has oldstyle numbers. But I don't get them with the \os macro. Here two minimal examples. The one with lmodern does the oldstyle numbers, the one with lucida not. I would be obliged for a solution. Font selection ranges

I want to define an environment for computer code including non-ASCII characters, using Xits or STIXGeneral except in the ASCII range, where some monospace font like Courier should be used. If I do: \setupbodyfont[xits,10pt] \definetyping[code] \setuptyping[code][margin=yes] \starttext \startcode for ∀i, j ∈ I do a(i, j) ≔ b(i, j) \stopcode \stoptext Then the math characters won't show. They will show using \setuptyping[code][style=normal,margin=yes] but then the ASCII range isn't monospace. In LaTeX, one can use \setmathfont[range={"0001-...,}] to set ranges for fonts, but I could not find that for ConTeXt. Hans

HTML export

Hi, I am new to Context (coming from Latex) and very much like it: very nice job! I would like to export my document to HTML. I am only interested by the basic formatting (like fonts, size...) and sections. I carefully read this page: http://wiki.contextgarden.net/epub As far as I understood and seen the font and style switching (like \it) are ignored. First question: is it possible to avoid that behavior? If not, it brings me to my second question: I am using the bib module to manage a bibtex bibliography. The formatting of the reference section is done internally and include some style (italic) which isn't present in the XHTML output. How can have it present somehow? Thanks Charles

readfile not understood

I do not understand while \readfile behaves differently from \input with regard to TeX-code processing. I have the following code: \readfile{metapost-setup} %(file with metapost inclusions) \starttext \startMPpage .. \stopMPpage \stoptext Replace the \readfile by: \input ../../../metapost-setup %(file with metapost inclusions) works ok. But with \readfile seems to be skipped silently, that is without any sign of it in the log. The convenience of \readfile should be, if I understand correctly, that it searches upwards to the root of directory tree. Which makes the series of ../'s unnecessary and allows for easily pushing the tex-files further down when their number grows. Can it be explained? Hans van der Meer

What are \usepath and \usesubpath supposed to do? I looked into the mkiv-code but could not find an explanation. I have a problem finding files from within a project-product-component structure and I hoped to solve through these macros. Sofar without success. In the wiki there is an item on project structure containing a \usepath but that didn't help me out. Hans van der Meer

style=bold in \setuphead does not work anymore

Hi, In ConTeXt standalone MkIV 2011.08.04 00:42 this used to work: \setuphead[section][style=bold] \starttext \section{Ward} \input ward \stoptext In 2011.09.20 00:09 it doesn't anymore. Is the asterisks '*' valid instead of 'all', i.e. e.g. --modules=* instead --modules=all? Is there a document (This Way, MAPS...) or a wiki page which would describe this? Blank lines inside verbatim environment

Hello ConTEXist. I know that this probably is no reason, but can be in an environment \starttyping ... \stoptyping turn on, which will each blank line in the statement reflect? I want put in the presentation in this environment, a direct numbers of blank lines. The larger number of empty lines is replaced by a single blank line (for obvious reasons). I tried to experiment with the settings \setuptyping, but without success. bug with floats and linenumbering (mkiv) ?

Hi all, I use mkiv and have a text which combines floats and also has a linenumbering in a doublesided document. If the float is placed inside a paragraph the linenumbering jumps to the left or right. But this happens only on right-hand pages. Problem with \columnsetspan

Hello, I tried columnsets today, and the following minimal example shows that something is wrong with columnsetspans (which I wanted to use to make a title). \definecolumnset[main][n=2] \definecolumnsetspan[title][n=2] \starttext \startcolumnset[main] \startcolumnsetspan[title] \input knuth \stopcolumnsetspan \dorecurse{10}{\input knuth} \stopcolumnset \stoptext Is it a bug or am I doing something wrong? I used the following macro for typsetting literature references in footnotes. It worked without problems until now, but then I didn't use the bib module for some time. I was using something like \setMPpositiongraphic{A1}{syllabus:arrow}{to=B1,bxoff=\celloff} and \hpos{A1}{}\VB \VB \VB \VB \hpos{B1}{}\CR for the placement of arrows (defined with \startMPpositiongraphic on the page. That was mkII. Now the arrows are not placed at the proper position but at the left of the page. Question: has something changed here in ConTeXt mkIV that I didn't notice? The only change I can imagine here is that from mkII to mkIV. Hans van der Meer

StretchedBox broken in mkiv

Several years ago Hans cooked up a fix using \CapStretch that allowed me to stretch words. That early version of \stretchedbox appeared in later ConTeXt versions as \StretchedBox as described in strc-sec.mkii and strc-ren.mkiv. This feature worked in the ConTeXt version dated 2011.07.26, but does not work in my current ConTeXt version dated 2011.09.10. I have attached an example file that works with mkii and with earlier mkiv versions, but not with the current mkiv. I am curious to know what has changed to break this functionality. Initially, I thought it had to do with \setuphead's definition of 'deeptextcommand', but since there are no difference in the files strc-sec-mkii and strc-ren.mkiv between these two releases, the reason must lie elsewhere. If anyone can explain what has changed, an more importantly how to reinstate it, I would be most grateful. With kind regards, Michael Guravage

Hi all, after boring people with xml processing in TeX at the meeting in Bassenge, I'm looking for new challenges and am trying my hand at processing xml in lua. But so far, even the simplest things escape me. Missing booktitle in "incollection" bib-entries

Hi list, I have an @incollection-entry with "booktitle" set in a bib-file used in a ConTeXt document. Unfortunately there is no \title, generated from "booktitle", in the respective .bbl file. Only \arttitle, generated from the bib-key "title", is present. Guess it's a bug(?) Best regards, Stefan

[Layout] Problem with ConTeXt mkII

Hello, I use extensively ConTeXt for my work as a teacher. I run into this problem : I've defined the following layout for giving work for my students : \setuptolerance[verytolerant,stretch] \setuppapersize[A4][A4] \setuplayout[ backspace=3cm, topspace=1.5cm, rightmargin=0cm,leftmargin=1.3cm, width=15cm, leftmargindistance=0.2cm, height=26.7cm, header=0cm, footer=1cm ] \definelayout[1][ topspace=5.2cm, height=23cm, textheight=22cm] \definelayout[2][reset] The purpose is to give some space on the first page to put a layer with a big title (it's for a document full of exercices, an example could be found at http://ishtar.msi.unilim.fr/uploads/media/Reseaux_I_TD_1_2011_2012.pdf) But, after having the correct layout for the first page, the second page gives me a reduced textheight : the text don't flow on the lower part of the page. That could be explain as the textheight variable is not computed for the second page. This is very annoying. I've found a workaround by using the same layout for the whole document and put some blank lines on the first page. I use the following version "ConTeXt ver: 2011.05.18 18:04 MKII fmt: 2011.8.31 int: english/english". Frame around float and its caption, how to?

Hi list, I'm using 201100920 00:09 MkIV standalone. Some time ago Marcin Borkowski asked [1] on this list about framing floats together with their captions. It seems to be unanswered and now I stumbled upon a similar problem. I want to have a figure with a caption together in a frame as wide as the surrounding text, aka \textwidth and the caption filling the available horizontal space. I.e. I want something like \setupcaption[width=\textwidth] \starttext \placefigure[here]{\input tufte}{\externalfigure[cow]} \stoptext with a frame around it. I see two approaches here and none of them gives me what I need. First using \setupfloat[frame=on] only frames the cow and not the caption. I think I can manually correct this with "framedepth" and "width" but doing something "manually" in ConTeXt seems not like a good idea. Am I overlooking something about \setupfloat? Secondly, I tried \framed{...} around \placefigure but there are two issues here: How do I setup the caption to fit nicely into the frame? "\setupcaption[width=\textwidth]" is to much because of the frame spacing... And there is another serious issue, see the following minimal example. The frame is where the figure was placed but is empty, because the figure floated to the next page. \setupcaption[width=max] \starttext \dorecurse{2}{\input tufte \par} \framed{\placefigure[here][fig:muh]{\input tufte}{\externalfigure[cow]}} \input tufte \stoptext I have no idea how to procede with this. Console Verbosity & Optimized Output Generation

Hey folks, Two questions. Is there a certain set of command line switches recommended for cleaning up the console output when ConTeXt is executed? It is very verbose and I only need to see warnings and error messages. The typesetting source to a book I am working on is composed of many individual files. When I change one, the whole book needs to be regenerated which takes a long time to do. [PATCH] Small improvement for 'setuptex'

Hello. I'm using standard 'setuptex' file to set apropriate variables for my shell. I'd like to suggest small improvement for this file. See attached patch. P.S. The real use of this file is in my shell initialization scripts. It is sourced in specific way so I faced a situation when 'export' is required. So I downloaded the last context beta and this problem is gone. But I got another problem : there is an unwanted additional space at the begining of the \inlineX content. Clip and framed not precise in MKIV

Hi, I've used ConTeXt to chop up a big map svg on separate A4 papers like this: \setuplayout[width=190mm,backspace=10mm,height=297mm,topspace=10mm, header=0mm] \setupclipping[nx=3,ny=3] \starttext \dorecurse{3}{\framed{\clip[x=\recurselevel,y=1]{\externalfigure[map.svg][width=570mm]}}} \dorecurse{3}{\framed{\clip[x=\recurselevel,y=2]{\externalfigure[map.svg][width=570mm]}}} \dorecurse{3}{\framed{\clip[x=\recurselevel,y=3]{\externalfigure[map.svg][width=570mm]}}} \stoptext I'm using framed to indicate where the pieces should be cut. The problem is that \framed does not frame the area produced by \clip precisely. There is a small gap between the frame border and the clipped image area and the gap is of different size on the left and right sizes than for example on the bottom. Am I overlooking some default setting? Shouldn't \framed frame the object inside it without leaving a padding between them? Best regards, Otso Helenius

MetaObj with labels in built-in objects (MetaObj Standard Library)

Hi list, some time ago I posted on this list about problems with MetaObj in ConTeXt when using labels. There's a wiki article about this now [1]. Just recently I was forced to notice that this solution does not work when the label to be drawn is part of the object definition. So the example from [1] works fine with the added boolean flag, but the following example (which means basically all built-in MetaObj objects with text) does not. It compiles well but there is no text. --8<--------------------start--------------------8<-- \startMPinclusions[+] input metaobj; boolean firstrun; firstrun := true; \stopMPinclusions \startMPpage if firstrun: newBox.a(\sometxt{Text}); a.c = origin; fi; drawObj(a); firstrun := false; \stopMPpage -->8--------------------stop-------------------->8-- I'm out of ideas how to fix this. I tried putting the text into a separate pictrue variable and use this in "newBox". In addition, I thought it should be possible to modify metaobj.mp to check for a boolean variable (e.g. "firstrun") and let the macros there react to its value accordingly , but I always got either no text or errors. I can draw the picture I wanted to get in the first place with plain MetaFun, but I thought MetaObj would be even more "fun". Now I'm very curious if someone on this list can come up with something. I understand this behaviour for right-left-aligned text to avoid extremely stretched-out spaces, but here it doesn't seem right to me. Can I change this behaviour somehow? Thanks for any advice! Hi, powerful context users: I'm wondering why there is no crop setting for \externalfigure or \insertpages. I have a lot of scanned books in PDF format, most of them are double sided. I want to read them on kindle but the huge margins take too much space and as a result the texts are too small. I want to use commands like \insertpages to crop all the pages with different bounding box settings for odd/even pages. there's a "scale" option for \copypages but it's somewhat naive to use in such practical cases... MetaPost visibly drawing at 0pt

I used to put an invisible frame around figures in MetaPost by setting a pen scaled at 0pt. That left no trace, but defined the area. However I (now) see a thin line drawn by code: pickup pencircle scaled 0pt; draw origin--(w,h); Did I always mis this or has something changed? For example a roundoff away from zero in MetaPost? Hello all, I'm using Tikz to draw some fancy text boxes, but I've bumped into an annoying problem. If you run the example below then the body text will be rendered in red. If you remove the "REMOVE ME" text, then it will be rendered in black. I would expect the black version to be the correct version but I need to add text to my node. Am I using \color correctly? Does anyone know how I might go about debugging this? IPA symbols in MKIV

Hello, I'm having a trouble getting IPA symbols to show up with MKIV. I've read through the old threads about using IPA, and it seems there is no module like tipa for ConTeXt for easy input. I've tried also using SIL Gentium as the main font and entering the IPA symbols directly as UTF-8, but only a part of them will render (even though they all exist in the actual font in the right plane and are viewable in other programs). Almost none of the diacritics render. \definetypeface [MyFace][rm][serif][gentium][default][encoding=uc] \setupbodyfont[MyFace, 11pt] \starttext n̥ d̥ ̊ɭ˔ ʎ̥˔ \stoptext only n, d and ̊ will render in the PDF. In other apps using Gentium all the glyphs are visible. Is there a way to output IPA symbols correctly (when they are entered as UTF-8), or would it be possible to introduce a macro/module with an environment like \startipa \stopipa and commands for entering the symbols inside the environment? Entering some of the symbols correctly (such as velarized or pharyngealized diacritics which should appear on top of the letter) is hard when done directly with Unicode, so at least TeX-like shorthands for all the symbols and diacritics would really be appreciated. Hi all, some of the possibilities concerning float placement that are listed on the wiki[1] cause mkiv to fail with an “undefined control sequence”. E.g. ----------------------------------------------------------------- \starttext \placefigure[left][]{A Dutch Cow}{\externalfigure[cow]} \stoptext ----------------------------------------------------------------- The same goes for “right”, “innermargin” “outeredge”. Others like “top” and “here” seem to work. Mkii is not affected, though. Bug? Hi, I just gave automigrateinserts a try in a current version (09.15): The footnotes used in a table are printed, but with the wrong numbers ... due to the fact that the table is a float, probably. Please have a look a this screenshot: http://werksatz.com/attachments/footnotes.pdf The tables anchor is on the left side after the paragraph mentioning "Tabelle 27", by using \placetable{...caption...}{\bTABLE...\eTABLE} Before is footnote 68, below is footnote 74! But, for the table is placed on the next page, their footnotes 69-73 are also placed on the right page ... AFTER footnote 74!! Is there something that can be done about this? I.e. the footnote 74 gets number 69, and the table's notes on the right page get number 70-74?! Thanks, Steffen

Dear Hans, I have problems with externalfigure inside metapost. In MKII, only externalfigure "something.png"; works, while in MKIV only draw externalfigure "something.png"; is accepted. Is there any chance to accept one of the syntaxes in both flavours? Hello all, I've had another stab at converting our Word template to Context. I've managed to draw some pretty shapes using MetaPost (and I'd like to add my +1 for getting some alpha channel support for linear_shade) and I got really close to getting my table headings working. I would like to have a gradient fill that runs the width of the table header. I believe that there are only really two options as to how I can get what I want: 1. Recalculate the gradient fill for each cell. This will require knowing the column width and the ability to change the cell's background as appropriate. I have no idea how to do either. 2. Draw the framed fill to the width of the table and then position it behind the table header (which is actually how it gets done in Word). However, I don't know how to determine the table width, or how to accurately position the frame. The next problem I have is with section headings. For each section heading we are required to include a box that contains some meta information. Hi, Can the definition of \url be changed so that \useURL[google][http://www.google.com]\url[google] will create a hyperlink? I tried changing the definition of \url to (changed last line) \unexpanded\def\url[#1]% {\dontleavehmode \begingroup \dosetfontattribute\??ur\c!style \dosetcolorattribute\??ur\c!color \goto{\hyphenatedurl{\ctxlua{structures.references.urls.get("#1","\@@uralternative","\@@urspace")}}}[fileorurl(#1)]% \endgroup} but this makes \url inherit the style from \setupinteraction rather than \setupurl. Miktex breaks install

In a fit of madness I installed Miktex and now my minimals install is borked ("unknown script 'context.lua'...). Looking at the output it seems that Miktex has set a load of variables that Context is now using for itself. I suppose it would be nice to run side by side, but I guess I need to reset these variables when using Context. Is the texmfcnf.lua file the best place to put these? If so, then does anyone know what I should set the following to? SELFAUTOLOC SELFAUTODIR SELFAUTOPARENT TEXMFCNF TEXMF TEXOS Thanks in advance, Felix

Units misbehaving, I think

I don't think the /unit and /lunit command like a quantity that starts with a zero.. Any one else? First two work fine, last one causes all kinds of grief, in lists, lines etc. The leading zero and decimal point are zapped. \unit{1.0 meter inverse second} \lunit{1.0 meter inverse second} \unit{0.1 meter inverse second} \lunit{0.1 meter inverse second} \lunit{0 meter inverse second} And pretty, please, can we spell metre correctly soon ( sorry, people over the pond…) … Or at least have the option to...

relative references

Anyone else had an issue with these? Work done on one system, transferred to another, and apparently the relate references all fail. Both unix - based machines… The offending machine (where the refs seem not to work) is OSX Lion…. Some samples: This works: /Users/Ian/SPT_PDF_context/ConTEXt_production_ws/Fo01_PN-Testbed/Fo_01_PN_graphics/train_full.pdf This does not ./Fo_01_PN_graphics/train_full.pdf Even when I am working inside /Users/Ian/SPT_PDF_context/ConTEXt_production_ws/Fo01_PN-Testbed/ And I think it should. It's making me quite cross…. But if I am being unremittingly stupid, and someone can enlighten me, then payment in the usual currency follows…

export kills hyphen symbol

I have an extremely strange bug. If I use Fontin font[1] with simplefonts module and enable export and protrusion, the hyphenation symbol is gone! Titles - dimensions and grid after

Hello, I simply need to have chapter title exactly placed, not on grid (25mm from left, top of all letters on the edge of the whole grid). I have tried: \setupbodyfont[termes,11pt] \setupinterlinespace[line=14pt] \definefont[nadpisy][SansBold at 22pt] \setuphead[chapter][% before={\dontleavehmode\blank[-0.26cm]\hskip 25mm}, number=yes, style=\nadpisy after={\blank[11*line]}, ] This works fine but the text after is NOT on grid (don't know how to). Setup of the title of Contents

Hello, I wish I were able to set tup my custom title (for example, for table of contents). I have chapter titles split over two lines and with different sizes so I need something different as a title of Contents. I know about many possibilities of \setuplist options but can't find anything about changing the title style. It seems the basic style is simply derived from the chapter title style. Any advice? Hi, I uploaded a beta. Apart from some fixes/additions the most important difference is that the scite support files have been replaced: instead of the built-in lexer we now use the lpeg based one. There is a readme file in the context/data/scite subpath. Those using it need a recent version of scite (I use 2.28). The lexers are working ok but might be improved in due time. Hello, I am trying to learn how to set up the layout according to my exact wish and can't achieve one thing. How to remove those annoying tight spaces on both sides? I simply need 1.5cm on the side of binding and 0.5cm on the outer one. MKIV strange results in Adobe Reader

Hello, I recently made a SimpleSlides presentation with MKIV (2011.08.27 13:24). It looks ok on numerous PDF readers including Okular, Google Docs, Sumatra PDF. Whenever I open it on Adobe Reader, the results are rather puzzling: 1) The fifth page background is not black but grey, also some later pages have grey background 2) The RGB and CMYK swatch colours are all messed up The picture on page four has been intentionally corrupted with a hex editor and then opened and saved again in Gimp to remove the errors in the file. I would appreciate if someone could explain if there are bugs in my tex sources, in MKIV or in the Adobe Reader – and in any case how can I fix the erroneous output on Adobe Reader to match it on Sumatra, Google Docs, etc. Best regards, Otso Helenius

Project structure – how to process product file

Hello, I am trying to split a book in separated chapter files. Every of them includes: \startcomponent kap01 \environment environ %this I use because it is great to fine-tune shorter parts of book, it saves a lot of time \product kniha \starttext ... \stoptext Processing of single chapter files is ok. In my productfile I have: \startproduct kniha \component kap01 \component kap02 \stopproduct Of course, I have both chapters saved like kap01.tex... I have that directory structure: \Pes\environ.tex \Pes\kap01\kap01.tex \Pes\kap02\kap02.tex \Pes\kniha\kniha.tex – this is the product file. But when I try to process the product file, it saves kniha.log, kniha.tuc but no pdf file. Interesting is, the console says exactly: mkiv lua stats > result saved in file - kniha.pdf But no, it really doesn't save anything... Thanks, Honza Hejzl

repeat option in itemize not working correctly

In MkIV, \startitemize[n,repeat] gives a result that does not look right. The numbers of the first level of itemize are missing. \starttext \startitemize[n,repeat] \item One \item Two \startitemize[n] \item Sub one \item Sub two \stopitemize \stopitemize \stoptext I am using 2011.08.21. Aditya

Hi, I am having problems typing ">>" when typesetting code within a \definetyping environment. I hope someone might be able to give me a hint. My code looks as follows: \definetyping [Haskell] [ option=commands, before={\startframedtext[width=\makeupwidth, frame=off,bottomframe=on,topframe=on, background=screen,backgroundscreen=.90]}, after={\stopframedtext}, bodyfont=9pt, margin=1.5em] \startHaskell main = foo >>= bar \stopHaskell Whenever ConTeXt comes across >> anywhere in the text, it just doesn't typeset anything. setting margin for second level of itemize

Hi, I want items to display as follows (| represents the text area edge) | 1. First item | 2. Second item | 2.1 Sub item | 2.2 Sub item | 3. Third item I could not find a way to control the margin of the second level. Setting \setupitemize[1][margin=2em] \setupitemize[2][margin=4em] does not work. Thanks, Aditya

Figure Background Colour

Hey folks, I am using the following to insert a full page landscape figure: \FullPageLandscapeDiagram {SomeDiagram} {Some diagram's caption.} {Some_Diagram.svg} Which is defined as follows: \def\FullPageLandscapeDiagram#1#2#3% { \page \setuppapersize[diagram] \setuplayout[fullpage] \startframedtext[width=.95\textwidth,bottom=\vss,top= \vss,align=right,corner=rectangular] \placefigure [force][figure:#1] {#2} {\externalfigure[#3][width=.95\textwidth]} \stopframedtext \page \setuppapersize[main] \setuplayout[reset] } It works great, except that most of my figures have transparent backgrounds and since the page colour is already black, I can't make out some of the images properly. Hi, I have a text with commented spans. The comments come later in the book, and I'd like to show the commented parts just above the comments themselves. It seems, after several preflights, that option=always in \setupbackends still does not work. Is anyone able to try to produce such a file an offer it for preflight? I have tried it on both win and unix standalone installations, have icc profiles placed correctly but Acrobat still says the same… Thanks, Honza Hejzl

animation error

Dear Wolfgang, In the recent beta, \startanimation \stopanimation is not working. There is a undefined control sequence error at \stopanimation. In the version 2011/08/10, it works fine. Is there anything changed in the recent version? Thank you. Best regards, Dalyoung

No color with interaction and focus option is ignored
