I have a list of numbers, 2, 6, 7, 8, 12, 14, 18, 20, 186, 188, 316, 318, 354, 372, 376 that I would like to use as exceptions in a \dostepwiserecurse loop. That is, within the loop if \recurselevel is NOT EQUAL to either of these numbers, then I want to do something -- otherwise, I simply increment \recurselevel. I would appreciate an example of how to do this. Thanks, Troy Henderson

Universitat de les Illes Balears", year = "2009", address = "Palma de Mallorca", note = "Available in \from[bib:memoria-master] (in catalan)" } and when I put \placepublications[criterium=text] I only recive: "X. Bordoy, Master's thesis, Departament.... Univeritat... Palma de Mallorca (2009). Avaliable in .... (catalan)." but not title? Why? Can I display title in that? Thanks in advance, Xan.

\define a command with square-bracket arguments

Hi all, As I understand it, \define[2] is preferred over \def#1#2 because it refuses to overwrite existing commands. \define[2]\mycommand{code code code} defines a command to be invoked with \mycommand{...}{...} Can I use \define, or a related command, to define a command that takes square-bracket arguments, like so: \mycommand[...][...] ? When I type \define[1][2]\mycommand{code code code} that doesn't work. Cheers, Sietse

Hi all, the background mechanism of tabulations is quite simplistic: it extends only to the first line of a cell irrespective of its length. Hi all, I've found a helper function that does this: utilities.parsers.settings_to_hash('ape=1, note=2, mice=3') --> { ["ape"] = 1, ["note"] = 2, ["mice"] = 3 } This makes me very happy. This function and its friends are stored under utilities.parsers, and defined in util-prs.lua; I've listed them below. Perhaps they'll be useful to somebody else, too. I should probably add this info to http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Commands_with_KeyVal_arguments, but dinner first. metapost dashpattern (on 1) not shown in Mountain Lion Preview

Dear all, I just upgrade to Mountain Lion and found out that "dashed dashpattern (on 1)" no longer shows any line in Preview. The attached file is a snapshot of the Preview window showing the pdf file generated by the following code. \starttext \startMPpage draw unitsquare scaled 4cm dashed dashpattern (on 1cm off 1cm) ; draw unitsquare scaled 4cm shifted (5cm,0) dashed dashpattern (on 1cm) ; draw unitsquare scaled 4cm shifted (10cm,0) dashed dashpattern (off 1cm) ; setbounds currentpicture to boundingbox currentpicture enlarged 0.1cm ; \stopMPpage \stoptext You can see, from the attached file, that the unitsquare which was supposed to appear in the middle does not show up in the Preview window. However the same file is displayed correctly in Acrobat Reader. I am not sure whether it is a context problem, or it is just a bug in Mountain Lion. I found out this issue when I saw that all the pdf files I previously generated with gnuplot context term are showing up incorrectly under the Preview after upgrading to Mountain Lion. I had to change the dash pattern in file "metapost/context/third/gnuplot/mp-gnuplot.mp", so the pdf generated by gnuplot context term can be viewed correctly with Preview under Mountain Lion. No entry in the list of figures? (now without .pdf)

Both of them should have two entries - "cow" and "mill". The former is OK; but the latter has no entry. If you comment "\chapter{Foto}", both LOFs are OK. What's the problem? When using the Type 1 versions of the Lucida fonts, -- and --- don't work as expected. However, the following do work in their place. \uchar{32}{19} (for the -- ndash) \uchar{32}{20} (for the --- mdash) Can I redefine -- and --- to use the \uchar commands? Troy Henderson

Space after caption of a float

Hello, is there a built-in parameter for \setupcaptions which would affect the space after the caption? Or any other way? - Images here seem to me too close to each other; and I'm not able to add some extra space after the caption to get a bit bigger gap to the next object (image, text, whatever). Hello everybody in list. I have drawn title page for my book on paper, later scanned it. And now I want to add it to my book as a first page. But there is the a problem. When I place it as a figure it is too large to fit on page. I have discovered [size=fit] argument, but this places it inside the page and margins remains. So how can I place this title page without margins? (A4 scanned page to A4 PDF page) I have scan in two formats PNG and PDF (A4 paper size). Regards -- Mikoláš Štrajt

Multi-paragraph quotations according to AP

One of the things I do with ConTeXt is publish a newsletter. The organization I publish for requires me to conform to the Associated Press (AP) Stylebook for all grammar, punctuation and usage. The AP Stylebook requires every paragraph in a quotation to have an "open quotation mark" but only the last paragraph has the "close quotation" mark at the end. \startquotation .. \stopquotation easily takes care of the open on the first paragraph and close at the end of the last. What I can't figure out is how to put an open quotation mark on the intervening paragraphs. I've tried various combinations of \setupstartstop and friends but without success. Is there an easy/straight-forward way to do this? Example (line spaces between "paragraphs" are for illustration purposes only): "This is the first paragraph. It has an open quotation mark but no close. Blah, blah blah .... "This is the second paragraph. It has an open quotation mark, too, but no close. Blah, blah blah .... "This is the third paragraph. It has an open quotation mark as well but no close. Blah, blah blah .... "This is the last paragraph and it needs a closing quotation mark, too." Proposal: making [[article]] and [[Article]] equivalent on the wiki

Hello, all, The wiki currently has $wgCapitalLinks = false; meaning that if one wishes to link to e.g. [[Columns]] inside a sentence one must write "See the [[Columns|columns]] article." And if one links to another article, one must remember whether its title is lowercase, Titlecase, or if it doesn't matter because a redirect exists. Proposal: I propose we set $wgCapitalLinks = true; $wgCapitalLinkOverrides[ NS_FILE ] = false; This will make writing a link as [[Article]] or [[article]] both correct, but retain case sensitivity in the rest of the article title. In the file namespace, however, case sensitivity will be retained for the entire name, so that people won't have to download e.g. "T-lilypond.tex". Motivation below. Comments, agreement, disagreement welcome. Cheers, Sietse Motivation: Redirects can (and do) solve this, and so can changing the link, but that is busywork that nobody should have to do. Setting $wgCapitalLinks = true is a robust solution. Article titles will remain case-sensitive, except for the first letter, meaning * no more trying to remember whether an article is located at [[lowercase]] or at [[Titlecase]] * no more creating redirects from [[lowercase]] to [[Titlecase]] or vice versa * you can always use the simplest wikilink, because [[Columns]] and [[columns]] both work correctly. * article titles will consistently be displayed in Titlecase * for titles that should start in lowercase, such as [[texexec]] or [[first-setup]], we'll need to add e.g. {{DISPLAYTITLE:texexec}}. For the file namespace, it is preferable that case-sensitivity remains on, especially for .tex and .zip files such as http://wiki.contextgarden.net/File:T-lilypond.tex http://wiki.contextgarden.net/index.php?title=Special%3APrefixIndex&prefix=… (The large amount of Titlecased filenames in that list is because in the early days of this wiki, $wgCapitalLinks was also true everywhere.)

need help with macro

Hi all, I have a macro “mogrify” that eats three tokens of a string and treats them differently from the rest of the string. I can’t however use it inside more complex macros. Hi I have defined a two-level head structure with independent numbering. It works as intended with mkii, but with mkiv, the top-level number is prepended to all second-level heads in the table of contents. tolerance and whitespace settings inside a TEXpage

Hi, inside a TEXpage the tolerance and the whitespace settings are not applied. The whitespace can be set in a setup and the tolerance can be set directly with \spaceskip, but that seems a bit hackish. Is that intended and is there a cleaner solution? Is this due to wrong parameters in the font, or something wrong at the ConTeXt end? Hello, 1) is there a Ctx command/switch which would generate list of all current ConTeXt commands? E.g. " context --list-of-commands > Cmds.txt " to produce ---- Cmds.txt \startCAP \stopCAP \startCap \stopCap ... \writetoregister ---- 2) The directory "c:\Ctx-Beta\tex\texmf-context\context\data\textpad" is empty (by default?). Its content: - is filled when context.exe is launched with a command/switch (if so, which command?), or - is filled when a newer version of ConTeXt is downloaded (if so, which "extras" - like "first-setup.bat --extras=all --modules=all" - should be specified to fill the directory)? Bibliography, unicode strings, @ELECTRONIC, sorting and bibtex

Hi, I have some questions regarding the bibliography. 1) The style files bibl-ams.tex, bibl-ssa.tex, etc contain strings like ``, ~. This does not make sense to me. The `` ends up like that in the output and the tilde might interfere with the \asciimode setting. Wouldn't it be better to use the proper Unicode glyphs (U+201C, U+00A0, etc.) nowadays? I assume the files are old MkII files and not being updated since. Example: \setupbibtex [database=sample] \setuppublications [alternative=ssa] \starttext \cite[hh2010a] \cite[Eijkhout1991] \cite[hh2010] \placepublications [criterium=cite] \stoptext 2) The @ELECTRONIC type does not work (already mentioned in the wiki). It does not show up in the references list. I guess no one bothered adding them and it's up to me to add the corresponding entries. Maybe someone has already prepared a working file for the APA style? 3) How to sort the bibliography by author? According to the bib manual I expected this to work: \setupbibtex [database=sample] \setuppublications [alternative=apa, criterium=cite, sort=author] \starttext \cite[hh2010a] \cite[Eijkhout1991] \placepublications \stoptext 4) \completepublications produces an empty page. Is that intended? \setupbibtex [database=sample] \setuppublications [alternative=ssa, criterium=cite] \starttext \cite[hh2010a] \completepublications \stoptext 5) (side question) What is BibTeX used for in ConTeXt? As far as I can see, it reads the .bib database and generates a .bbl file which then is read in by ConTeXt. Why do we need an external tool for this? Bug in xits font? No widehat shows up

Hello, I am creating script which generates context source from database data. Then converts context to pdf and sends it to user. Problem is that users enter international texts into database and some characters are not present in final pdf. MKII & MKIV difference between \textrule

Hello, In my experimentation, I've found that in mkii and mkiv the behavior of \textrule and \setuptextrule are different... What I did was quite simple: \textrule{Testing head} blah blah blah \textrule in mkii the text in well centered between the lines. But in mkiv the bottom line is too near the text, and I need to add something like \blank[halfline] to have a similar behavior as mkii. And apparently the command \starttextrule ... \stoptextrule doesn't work (this was explain in the cont-entp.pdf page 204) in either mkii & mkiv. Am I missing something? Sincerely yours, Alessandro

\items is buggy in mkiv

Wide descriptions protruding into the margin

Hi, with wide description heads I have the problem that the following description protrudes into the margin. \definedescription [description] [alternative=hanging, width=broad] \starttext \startdescription{conclusion that} \input knuth \stopdescription \startdescription{conclusion that the designer of a new system must not only be literally} \input knuth \stopdescription \stoptext In the second case the “Thus,” should be placed on the line after the head. Trying to rebuild context-beginner

Hello, As I'm new with ConTeXt, I'm playing around and look at how the manuals are made, to understand some of the subtilities of ConTeXt. So I've tried to create the pdf of context-beginner. And I've got a problem, probably a beginner mistake :-D but I would like to know how to solve it! so while doing "make en-screen" in the context-beginner, I get the following error: (...) systems : end file ma-cb-style at line 13 systems : begin file ma-cb-setups at line 14 (../ma-cb-setups.tex systems : begin file t-setup at line 20 (../t-setup.tex system : module set-02 (mkii) loaded (/home/fc065089/context/tex/texmf-context/tex/context/base/x- set-02.mkii ! I can't find file `mult-en()'. l.28 \input mult-\userinterfacetag() (Press Enter to retry, or Control-D to exit) (...) So I've found out after a while, that I need to write "mult-en.mkii", and it works, until it needs it again, and then I need to write it again. So I've search a bit more, and I found that if I change the file context/tex/texmf-context/tex/context/base/x-set-02.mkii (...) \input mult-\userinterfacetag (...) to (...) \input mult-\userinterfacetag.mkii (...) Then everything works, and I don't have to enter manually the extension .mkii. So my question is this normal? Should I really modify this x-set-02 file? Sincerely yours, Alessandro

Hello, I have a EPS file wich contains black lines and no background. The background of my presentation is colored, so I would like to put this figure in white. I tried a \startcolor … \stopcolor environement without succed. Is there a way to do so? In last resort I can put a white background with: \placefigure[left,none]{caption}{\externalfigure[demo-b][background=color,backgroundcolor=white]} Best regards

Lucida fonts

I have recently installed TeXLive 2012, and my Lucida (Type 1) fonts from TUG are installed in the texmf-local tree and function properly when using TeXLive 2011, but it seems that ConTeXt cannot find the fonts for 2012. The instuctions on the wiki do not seem to add a solution for me. I would appreciate any help in the process for installing these fonts for TL2012. Troy Henderson

Adaptive section structuring

Hi, I am often surprised that some nice-to-have feature is already present in ConTeXt and I just wasn't aware. But I am not sure about this one. Is there something like an adaptive structure code which keeps track of the nesting level? In this example the first structure would become the chapter, the second one a section, etc. \starttext \startstructure [title=Alpha] \startstructure [title=Beta] \startstructure [title=Gamma] \stopstructure \stopstructure \stopstructure \stoptext This would ease moving around sections, which might end up as subsections and vice versa. Hello, the recent update of the Annotation module (2012.09.05), mkiv broke the references to annotations for me: \usemodule[annotation] \defineannotation[definition][text=Definition,number=yes] \starttext \definition[reference=def1]{blabla} In \in{Definition}[def1] ... \stoptext In the example above the rather strange output is: Definition 2 blabla In Definition 1 ... In addition, I do not know how to correctly get the annotation counter displayed in a 'bychapter'-style. I tried: \usemodule[annotation] \definenumber[DefinitionCounter][prefix=yes,way=bysection] \defineannotation[definition][text=Definition,number=yes,counter=DefinitionCounter] \starttext \chapter{A chapter} \section{A section} Counter: \getnumber[DefinitionCounter] \definition[reference=def1]{blabla} Counter: \getnumber[DefinitionCounter] In \in{Definition}[def1] blabla ... \stoptext Again the behavior of the counter is really weird. Enabling PDF bookmarks creates links in red

Hello, I have been playing with the creation of PDF bookmarks and found this page here: http://wiki.contextgarden.net/PDF_Bookmarks_and_Headers So I have tried this (and a few variations of it): % Enable PDF bookmarks \setupinteraction[state=start] % Make chapter, section bookmarks visible when opening document \placebookmarks[chapter, section, subsection][chapter, section] \setupinteractionscreen[option=bookmark] The problem is that all of my cross-references (\in and \about) produce links (which is great) in bold and red, which is not great. I don't want my cross-references marked up in any way at all as I find that quite unappealing when printed. Can I turn that special mark-up off somehow and have normally formatted links instead? xml cross-references in lua?

Hi all, I have a question about xml processing and I think that what I want/need can best be achieved by using lua code, but so far, I'm not really sure how to proceed, so any help from one of the resident lua gurus would be welcome. So: the question. xml allows to provide elements with unique identifiers so that one can add cross-references within the document structure. Here is a sample xml file that shows what I mean: <document> <bibitem xml:id="hagen2011"> <author>Hans Hagen</author> <title>The Meaning of Life Is 42</title> <journal>The Rhetoric of Mathematics</journal> <date>2011</date> </bibitem> <bibitem xml:id="hagen2012"> <author>Hans Hagen</author> <title>The New Meaning is Now 43</title> <journal>High Energy Metaphysics</journal> <date>2012</date> </bibitem> <text> <p>This has been successfully proven in papers by <bib ref="#hagen2011"/> and <bib ref="#hagen2012"/>.</p> </text> </document> [Note: the TEI guidelines add the hash character in the attribute value to such references, but after much googling, I'm still not sure if this is standard or necessary or bizarre.] So: at the point of the reference (which may be empty, like here, or contain text), I want to refer back to the bibitems. The typesetting engine should then be instructed to pick up the information, so that this is, e.g., typeset as "This has been successfully proven in papers by Hans Hagen (2011) and Hans Hagen (2012)." My idea: since the xml:id attributes must be unique across the document, it would be easiest to collect them into a lua table, with the xml:id as key, so their content could be accessed and typeset later. Hi Hans, when I run the following example (saved as filename.tex) I got in the past this output \jobname filename \jobfilename filename.tex \jobfilesuffix tex \inputfilename filename.tex \inputfilebarename filename \inputfilesuffix tex \outputfilename filename \operatingsystem osx-64 but now I get this output \jobname filename \jobfilename filename \jobfilesuffix \inputfilename /Users/…/filename \inputfilebarename filename \inputfilesuffix \outputfilename filename \operatingsystem osx-64 where the suffix is missing. Passing variables on invocation- and reading them in ConTEXt

I'd like to pass variables into context on invocation, just as you can do with setting modes So context --arguments="number=8", "time=full-time" --mode=trial test.tex And have the values of the variables show up in the body of the text, so: ---- \starttext Hello world % This is \getvariables{arguments}{number} it. % this does not work - what do I need here to write out the next line? This is 8. % This is \getvariables{arguments}{time} it. % Nor does this - what do I need here to write out the next line? No cmyk support in MKIV (TexLive 2012 version)?

Trying to define some spot colors using the wiki examples. Search path.

Hello, list! I am really new to ConTeXt. I am writing a book http://topologia-geral.ourproject.org/ It is written in LaTeX and I intend to migrate it to ConTeXt. I want to migrate and I want to be as far from HACKS as I can. So I want to know the recommended way to do things. One of my first difficulties comes from the "search path" used by texexec. It seems to me that the path searched for components, products and environments depends on the path were the script was called from. That is, it depends on the "current working directory". My question (honestly) is: - Why would I want this behavior? When I write a project, product, component or environment file, why would I want the references I made to be dependent on the directory where the script was called? Shouldn't things be like the #include "relative_path.h" used in the C language, for example? That is, shouldn't those paths be relative to the script that refers to them? Am I missing something? Luatex crash with x86-64 Linux binary

Hi, I am running the latest minimals on a 64bit Linux system and ran into a luatex crash with a specific file. I reduced the file down to a simpler version that still triggers the crash, and thought it would be of some interest to post (the resulting pdf, if generated, will be ugly since I removed a lot of formatting, and some of the code in the file may appear extraneous). I am running: $ context --version mtx-context | ConTeXt Process Management 0.60 mtx-context | current version: 2012.09.06 23:03 $ luatex --version This is LuaTeX, Version beta-0.70.2-2012052410 (TeX Live 2012) What I think makes this interesting is the same file does not crash on three other setups I tested: - 32bit OS X (beta-0.70.2-2012052310) - 64bit OS X (beta-0.70.2-2012052309) - the same Linux system, but I replaced the 64bit Linux luatex binary with the 32bit Linux binary (beta-0.70.1-2012052416 (rev 4277), I see this is an older version but I downloaded directly from the minimals site today). It rebuilt caches and processed the file successfully. I updated minimals on both OS X systems today so all three systems should be otherwise identically configured. Various alterations to the file can avoid the crash; a few I found are---adding a \strut before the word jumbo, removing the nested bTABLE (this appears to be unneeded in the attached example), removing the \definefontfeature statement at the top of the file. Anyway I'd be interested to know if anyone else sees the same issue. I'm sure this is a real edge case error but hope it is helpful to track down the problem. Please let me know if there is any other debugging info you would like to see from my end. Thanks, Brian

Problem with *lettrine* module in Mk-iv

I am making my first steps in ConTeXt. I am only interested in Mk-iv and am using version 2012.09.06 23:03. I tried to explore the possibilities of the additional module *lettrine* following its documentation (*lettrine-doc.pdf*) and prepared the following example, which reproduces almost exactly the first one found in that text: \usemodule[lettrine] \starttext \lettrine {T}{he two} typeset arguments are the dropped capital and the run-in text following it; the \TeX\ source of this paragraph started with \starttyping "\usemodule[lettrine] \starttext \lettrine{T}{he two} …" \stoptyping … \stoptext When I typeset it with ConTeXt, the result was not what the documentation showed. The initial capital was fine and so was the rest of the first line, but the second line was blank and the regular text continued at the third and following lines. This was with the default value of 2 lines as size for the capital. If one indicates a greater number of lines, all of them but the first one are blank and the regular text continues after all that whitespace. As I was not completely sure that my installation of ConTeXt was unobjectable, I tried to typeset the example in *ConTeXt online* (http://live.contextgarden.net/) There the option to use *LuaTex / Mark-iv* is not offered (!!??), so I selected the *pdfTex* alternative and then it happened that everything behaved as expected (at least in the first part of the example, as some of the following commands seem not to be understood by *pdfTex*). My conclusion is that *lettrine* does not work correctly with Mark-iv and there is somewhere a bug that has to be corrected. But I could be mistaken. Am I doing something wrongly? 3D annotations problems

Hello ConTeXist, Is it possible go through all the keys of \setvariables (getvariable) macro and create the appropriate macros, as in the case of \getparameters macro? I mean macro like \getallvariablesfrom[myfirstnamespace], which return contents of brackets macro \setvariables[myfirstnamespace] (it mean list of all assignments key=value ...) In addition, you can assign all the variables one namespace to another namespace (or to create a loop which all variables passed and placed into the other namespace.)? Promotion of the ConTeXt IRC channel

Hi, I was wandering if we should promote the ConTeXt IRC channel on the contextgarden home page, e.g. underneath “Welcome to ConTeXt garden” or “External Help”. The current page (http://wiki.contextgarden.net/IRC) is unlikely to be found by anyone. I think most questions should stay on the mailing list, since I consider the mailing list almost as “the second ConTeXt manual” and it can easily be searched, in contrast to IRC. At the moment the channel is dead, which is probably due to the fact that no one knows of its existence. But it might turn into a valuable source of information, e.g. regarding installation problems for which the mailing list might not be as suitable. Marco

Hi @all, how do I get clickable/interactiv URLs and acronyms. After reading the manual I thought just setting | \setupinteraction | [state=start, color=black, contrastcolor=black, style=normal] | \definesynonyms [acronym] [acronyms] [\infull] | \setupsynonyms [acronym] [criterium=all] would be enough. Nested Macro

\abovedisplayskip and \belowdisplayskip

It is my understanding that \abovedisplayskip and \belowdisplayskip should adjust how much (rubber) spacing that is allowed between display math formulas. I have attached a ConTeXt file (bug.tex) that seems to indicate that setting these skips does not affect this (rubber) spacing. I have also translated this ConTeXt file line-by-line to a LaTeX file (bug.ltx) and attached it. Both files produce a PDF (using `context bug.tex` and `pdflatex bug.ltx`) in which the spacing between the formula changes from page 1 to page 2 simply by adding the final formula. However, by changing \adjustdisplay{0} to \adjustdisplay{1}, the LaTeX file produces a 3 page document where the spacing between formula does not change (as expected) on the first two pages and thus requires a third page to typeset the final formula. However, making this same adjustment in the ConTeXt file does not seem to affect the output. I would appreciate any thoughts as to why this is happening, and I would equally appreciate a solution to keeping the spacing the same in the ConTeXt file and thus bumping that last formula to a third page. Strange behavior of references when using annotation-module

Hello, I use the latest mkiv beta. When using the annotation module, the output of\in[...] misses a separation dot between chapter and formula number, e.g. "31" instead of "3.1". When I omit the annotation module, there is no chapter number at all in the \in[...] reference! A minimal example of the problem: \usemodule[annotation] \setupformulae[way=bychapter,prefixsegments=chapter,prefixstopper=.] \starttext \chapter{A chapter} \section{A section} \placeformula[OK] \startformula a+b=c \stopformula In \in[OK] we noticed blabla ... \stoptext Another problem is that \smash seems not to work properly for me! Automatic margin floats using the criterium parameter

Hi, I am working on some float placement code for a project. To not reinvent the wheel I like to know what is currently possible in ConTeXt. Small floats should be placed in the margin and bigger ones centred in the text. Captions always go into the margin. That is the idea. The key to automate this seems to be the \setupfloat[criterium=…] parameter. Details: 1) Captions always in the margin 2) Captions left aligned 3) Figures smaller or equal \marginwidth go into the outer margin 4) Margin figures are aligned to the inner side of the margin 5) Margin figure captions underneath the figure 6) Figures wider than the margin go centred into the text 7) Text figure captions top aligned I got almost everything working. A minimal example is attached. Problems: Mf 1-2 are placed correctly. Problematic are Mf 3-4. The caption is not placed in the margin because of the \setupcaptions [mf] [location=bottom] setting for margin figures. Another thing is the weird alignment of Mf 3-4, I expect the figures to be centred. The reason is the following setting. \setupfloat [mf] [location=inner] If uncommented, the alignment of the margin figures is wrong. Figure 1-2 are examples of how it should look like. I could come up with a hackish solution on my own but maybe someone has an idea how to achieve this with built-in support. Marco

TeX expansion within lua

Apparently the luacode environment has to be closed for cmd to be expanded. I guess that the call to mymacro() succeeds is a quirk due to the face that the macro is expanded later, in contrast to tokens, dimens and counters. Is there a command I can use within Lua to expand a macro immediately or to expand the pending macros to be able to access the values like the token register in the example? Another question which is related: Is there a way to access the contents of the macro from within Lua like counters and token registers? \starttext \newtoks\mytoks \mytoks={Foobar} \startluacode local tok = tex.toks.mytoks -- something like this is what I have in mind -- local mac = tex.macros.somemacro \stopluacode \stoptext I am just interested in a text string, not a box with typeset material. Hi, I discovered strange behaviour concerning Lua conditionals within texdefinitions. ConTeXt complains: 'then' expected near 'thenelseend'. I guess it has something to do with how the content of a texdefinitions is grabbed. Setting options for every n-th row in natural TABLEs

Hi, On Edward Tufte's website, there is a discussion on zebra coloring in tables[1]. One of the suggestion is to add a horizontal rule after every third line or shade three lines with one background color and the remaining three with another background color. Is there an easy way to do this with natural TABLEs? I can do something like: \setupTABLE[row][1,2,3][background=color, backgroundcolor=gray] \setupTABLE[row][7,8,9][background=color, backgroundcolor=gray] but it requires knowing the number of lines in advance. Hello, when looking at http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Project_structure - - why \product and/or \project specification is used in the COMPONENT in the example, or why is it supposed or even required to use in components? I imagined that component doesn't need to know in which project/product is used, even when in may be intended to more projects/products. So does it mean I would have to enumerate all projects/products in which the component is to be used? Or can be \product and/or \project specification omitted in the component? Stretching width in natural TABLEs

Hi, Is it possible to stretch the widths of each column in natural TABLEs, so that the widths are in a certain propotion? For example, suppose I have a table with three columns and I want to set the width of the first column to a fixed amount, and split the remaining space between columns two and three in a 1:2 ratio. Extreme tables implement something similar using option={stretch, width}, but AFAIU, it is not possible to fix the width of a particular column. Aditya

ConTeXt color to text

Hi, for a batch command (ImageMagick) I need to convert ConTeXt colors to a text representation (e.g. rgb 'red' -> 'rgb(255,0,0)'; same for color models cmyk and gray). What is the best way to get (read only) access to the color channels of a defined color? Peter

Dear Listers, \startchapter[title=Test] is working inside \starttext and \stoptext. But it is not working inside \startcomponent and \stopcomponent. Is it a natural behavior? I am using iMac, OSX Mountain Lion. And the ConTeXt version is "ConTeXt ver: 2012.08.28 20:00 MKIV fmt: 2012.9.4 int: english/english" A short test file is: %\startcomponent \starttext \startchapter[title=Test] \input knuth \stopchapter \stoptext %\stopcomponent Thank you for reading.
