Hi ! I'm currently creating a book in context - it's a tremendous project ! - and I have a couple of questions: Firstly, I'm interested in the "multicolumns table issue" raised in http://wiki.contextgarden.net/TABLE. Do you have an idea of a date for a fix ? Alternatively, it's quite a huge work to skip portions of tables at the good size, especially when an entry is added at the beginning Secondly, I have here a code in which several cross-links are down with MKIV (2012.05.30). It happens for references to chapter (or section/subsection) when \startcomponent is used (with starttext it is just ok). When merged in the whole document, I only have the problem for cross-links interns to a file (and each file is a component...) Thanks in advance ! Showing a cutting-frame

Hi there, to precize my question about the page-edges a few days ago, I know now what the perfect solution for me would be: 1. Is it possible, that context prints on every page an frame/box, which has excactly X mm distance to each of the four borders, no matter how I change the papersize? (Too the the real layout after cutting.) 2. And in addition to this, again my last question: Is there an command like "\addpapersize[x]" which increases the papersize x mm on all four directions of the page? (Useful, because with that I would not have to add always x mm cutting-space to topspace, bottomspace, cutspace and backspace manually, if I change the layout.) Thanks again Huseyin

Hello! Given some \startbuffer Blah, blah, blah... \stopbuffer I'd like to get a "node tree" corresponding to how the buffer would be processed at a given point. Using luatex, I'd like to identify certain sub-nodes and change their attributes (to be specific: transparency). Any hint on how to do it? Also, are there any good examples on how to use "nodes"? Multi-page textbackground ignores topoffset

Hi, Is there any way to get a multi-page textbackground to respect topoffset on each page? From the second page onwards, it leaves no offset at the top. I don't think I can use background instead, as I'm nesting the textbackgound under itemize and also use itemize within it (correct me if this works okay?). Consistent Colors

I have been going through the concepts underlying pallet. I would like to define three basic colors in RGB. Then use various shades and tints of these basic three colors through out the document. Now the algorithm for getting various shades for RGB scheme is: Darker shades: Multiply each component by 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, etc. of its previous value, depending on how dark the color should be. Lighter tints: Calculate (1 - previous value), multiply that by 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, etc. and add that to the previous value. What I would like is a macro that is fed a color name and should define 3 shades above and below it. I have following problems: 1. How to get RGB values of an already defined color? If this is too involved then I can pass the RGB values to the macro as well. 2. How to create a loop and carry out the above arithmatic to create RGB values for various shades? Essentially the problem boils down to doing arithmetic calculations and creating loops in ConTeXt. Coming back to ConTeXt

Hi, I decided to give another try to ConTeXt. I already did two years ago, I think, but I had problems mostly because of the lack of documentation for MkIV. Having a more or less strong knowledge and experience of LaTeX doesn't help!!! This time: I did not succeed to install a stand alone version. I have also TeX Live and I need it for LaTeX. I am using TeXworks (not the one from TeX Live). I use ConTeX from TeX Live 2012: This is LuaTeX, Version beta-0.70.2-2012080612 (TeX Live 2012/W32TeX) ConTeXt ver: 2012.05.30 11:26 MKIV fmt: 2013.1.20 int: english/english Following the discussions on ntg-context, there often is solution using one of hte latest version of ConTeXt, so I have a first question: is it possible to update the TeX Live ConTeXt and its associated files? I also have questions about typography (hyphenation, typographic rules,...) to have something according the French rules, and others... Other questions in another message. Creating a folded meander book - imposition problem

I would love to create a folded meander book, but as far as I can see, that means creating a new imposition scheme and that's beyond my skill. What I want is a cross between 2*16 and x=4, y=4 (I think). PDF Bookmarks

I would like to create PDF bookmarks in my ConTeXt document, but I do not want my document arranged in "normal" chapter/sections. I know that I can do \setupinteraction[state=start] \placebookmarks[chapter,section,subsection][chapter,section] \setupinteractionscreen[option=bookmark] and then in my document I can do \chapter{Foo} In this case, my PDF bookmark appears as "1 Foo". Furthermore, in the document itself, the chapter heading shows as "1 Foo". I would like the bookmark to just appear as "Foo" and I do not want ANY chapter/section headings when I issue the \chapter{Foo} or \section{Bar} commands. That is, in the document, I would like those commands to basically JUST create the bookmarks and have the bookmarks omit the chapter/section number. Troy

I think it is for mkII and I use mkIV and that there has been many changes in between. - The example at the bottom of page 11 and page 12 gives me an error: ! Hi, I am trying to use a homemade command to display chapter heads but I systematically get the following error: ! Argument of \ChapterHead has an extra }. Not to me to use a comma as a separator, because I need to have a comma as a character in the processed item list. Hi there, I am fine tuning my doc. I have problems with the publication list, as some of the publications extend to the margin of my document. I have not been able to find a solution. Paragraph indentation after float

If I want to say that dy/dx is calculated at z then in latex I can write \frac{dy}{dx}\Big|_z The \Big is to scale | according to the size of the \frac. I am using newmat and amsl modules that have supported the native math mode commands till now. But context does not recognise \Big. What is the native context way of doing this? Bug in reference to sections

Hi Hans, I noticed that with the latest mkiv (version 2013.01.22 18:33 MKIV fmt: 2013.1.22) when the sections have no numbers two « ! » are printed and this behavior is new: with previous versions when invoking for instance \in{other section}[sec:other] there used to be a link to the "other section" and no « ! ! ». I understand that there has been a change in this behavior, but is there a way to suppress the two « ! ! »? Arabic Characters shown wrong

Hi there, today I have the following issue: In Arabic there is a character called "Lam-Alif", it is a composition of "Lam" and "Alif", which is displayed usually in another way, than just writing "Lam" and "Alif" after each other in the usual way. See here: ??? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arabic_alphabet For Arabic I use the font Scheherazade \definefont[Shehkl][name:Scheherazade*arabic at 15pt] \definestartstop[Arab][commands=\setups{Arabic}] \def\Arab{\doArab} \def\Arab[#1]{ \startArab \noindentation \setupalign[r2l]\Shehkl#1 \stopArab } which worked perfect, until today! Now if I write \Arab[??] it is now not shown, like it should (and like your emailer will show it probably correctly, too). For conveniance I opened another, older, document, where the arab worked, and compiled it again, with absolutely no change -> and again, the same bug. Enable comments/highlighting in the output PDF

Hello everyone, I would like to create an output PDF file on which comments can be added by a reader for feedback. I do not know the settings to be applied in context to enable comments/highlighting of a section etc. in the generated PDF file. I am using free Adobe reader 9 on ubuntu presently. Referencing a figure

I have written a macro to include figures. I pass the label name and the caption as the two arguments. But when I try to refer to the figure, it shows ??. Surely, my macro does not define the figure label as intended by me. What am I doing wrong? Also, while trying to debug this problem, I tried using *\version[temporary]* to see the labels as suggested in the Context manual (chapter on Cross References (page 207) of cont-ini.pdf). But it didn't show many the label of the figure. Problem with arguments in macro

Hello, When writing a macro, I observed that some arguments are not transmitted correctly, particularly when the type is defined as "text". Misbehaving flow charts

Hi, I have a few questions regarding flow charts. 1) Setting “offset=none” yields to “Missing number, treated as zero.” 2) “option=test” should display a grid according to the manual, but it doesn't. It only displays the anchors. 3) What does the maxwidth option do? 4) What are the options “x” and “y” for? I'd like to set the width of the cells so that they fit within the text width. mkiv: Charis SIL / SmallCaps

Hi, I wonder how to make that the font Chris SIL (http://scripts.sil.org/cms/scripts/page.php?site_id=nrsi&id=CharisSIL_downl…) displays its Smallcaps. I checked the font with fontforge and it really contains the Smallcaps and also the smcp table. But for whatever reason I cannot get context to show the smallcaps. Figure captions in margin

I am using a layout with wide right margin. For floats that are \textwidth wide, I can place captions in the margin using**\setupcaption[location=rightmargin,high/low]. However, for figures that are (*\textwidth+\marginwidth+\margindistance*) wide, I would like to *place the caption in the margin below the figure*. I have tried spacebefore=\vskip but it doesn't seem to do anything. Another option was to use default caption location (below the figure) and add \hspace before figure placement. Did you recently change anything WRT subject line? It doesn’t show up any more. (Latest ConTeXt MkIV beta in standalone.) I.e. if I change the order of songs in my songbook, all LilyPond snippets must get recalculated, even if they didn’t change. Sorry if that’s mentioned in t-filter’s docs - I didn’t see it. There are some more enhancements that I’d like to implement, e.g. checking the resulting files if there are several pages or using single notelines to let ConTeXt do the page breaking (like lilypond-book does with LaTeX). I guess that would be as simple as replacing my \readPDFfile with some Lua code - can you give me a hint how to do that? Floats and footnotes don't obey focus=standard

Hi, PDF links to floats and footnotes change the zoom setting to fit height even though focus=standard is set. Links to chapters/sections behave as expected. Taco keeps an archive of windows binaries on http://foundry.supelec.fr/gf/project/luatex/frs/ (click on package name to get the list of older releases) but they were compiled on a different compiler, so you need to check yourself whether they work for you or not. In case not, my best bet for downloading it would be fetching luatex.dll from an arbitrary commit from http://tug.org/svn/texlive/trunk/Master/bin/win32/ Most probably the latest binary is still 0.72.0 in which case you can also fetch it from http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/systems/texlive/tlnet/archive http://mirrors.ctan.org/systems/texlive/tlnet/archive/luatex.win32.tar.xz (I'm also working on an archive of W32TeX binaries, but it's not there yet.) Mixing Body and Math Fonts

I normally use \setupbodyfont[lucida] to use Lucida as my body AND math font. I also use \usemodule[simplefonts] \setmainfont[Myriad Pro] to use Myriad Pro as my body font (when no math is used). I would like to, however, now mix these so that I can use Lucida for my math and Myriad Pro everywhere else. What is the best way to accomplish this? Thanks, Troy Henderson

setupformulas reset not working

Hi, In my work I have standalone formulas and formulas inside a paragraph (see idea of module pararef). For standalone formulas the default settings are ok. But for the formuals inside the paragraphs I need to change the afer- and beforespaces. So I have to change the spaces before and after a formula often. Unlucky \startformula[spacebefore=...,spaceafter=...] is not working. So I try to achieve it via the "big" setup function: \setupformulas[spacebefore=...,spaceafter=...] - not nice but it works (except that "strange" space \formulaparameter). But now after that paragraph I want to reset the spaces of setupformulas. In the file strc-math.mkiv says that the spaces are defined like this: ... c!spacebefore=\v!big, \c!spaceafter=\formulaparameter\c!spacebefore, ... So I tried after \stopformula to reset the spaces with: \setupformulas[spacebefore=\v!big,spaceafter=\formulaparameter\c!spacebefore] and \setupformulas[spacebefore=\big,spaceafter=\formulaparameter\spacebefore] but both failed. Is there any possibility to reset the spaces of setupformulas? And what kind of space is \formulaparameter? H.

I would like to use the OTF versions of MdSymbol located at http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/fonts/mdsymbol/otf as my math font. Thickness of right border for table cell

In order to change the width of the bottom border of the first row of a natural table to 2bp, I can do \setupTABLE[row][1][after={\hrule width\hsize height 2bp}] and I have tried doing \setupTABLE[column][1][after={\vrule height\vsize width 2bp}] to change the width of the right border of the first column, but this does not work. No page break between chapter-title and section-title in TOC

seeindex: no indent (random pattern?)

Hi there, I have a problem with my index. There randomly (at least I do not see a pattern) is a missing indent in front of the words referenced by seeindex. Unfortunatelly, I cannot reproduce this nor do I see any pattern, as for why this problem exists. Is someone having the same issue, and if so, could this person point me to the reason so that I / someone can do something about it?! Minimal WORKING(!!!! - i.e. gives the desired output; it's there to explain my problem) example below. \margintext overflows in bottom margin

I am using*\margintext* for comments in the margin. When a comment falls on the last line of a page, I have to manually add *\setupmargintext[voffset=-2em] *everytime to stop it from flowing into bottom margin. Is there a way to automatically offset margin text to stop it from flowing into bottom margin. Sure, I can create two environments “Cinline” and “Cblock”, but that feels clumsy. What's the proper way to set up different backgrounds for inline and block code? Marco

Layer vs. overlay

Hello, I need to add a text to the FOREGROUND of the page. - Layers can refer to a page (or its size) and elements in a layer are drawn BELLOW the (normal) page content. - Overlays are drawn ABOVE the (normal) page content and their size is given by an element (often \framed) which uses the overlay. So - I'd need a layer which would overlay the normal page content (like "foreground" or "topmost" layer) or an overlay which would refer to (= its size and position would depend on) the (current) page (instead of e.g. \framed); it should be a somewhat combination of layers & overlays. I have to update LuaTex on a win2k machine. But I get two errors while running mtxrun.exe and texlua.exe resp. via first- setup.bat. There is a call to getnameinfo in WS2_32.dll which is available in winxp and above. Here is an info from ms how to deal with this: "The getnameinfo function was added to the Ws2_32.dll on Windows XP and later. If you want to execute an application using this function on earlier versions of Windows (Windows 2000, Windows NT, and Windows Me/98/95), then you need to include the Ws2tcpip.h file and also include the Wspiapi.h file. When the Wspiapi.h include file is added, the getnameinfo function is defined to the WspiapiGetNameInfo inline function in the Wspiapi.h file. At runtime, the WspiapiGetNameInfo function is implemented in such a way that if the Ws2_32.dll or the Wship6.dll (the file containing getnameinfo in the IPv6 Technology Preview for Windows 2000) does not include getnameinfo, then a version of getnameinfo is implemented inline based on code in the Wspiapi.h header file. Lettrine not Working as Expected

Hello everyone, I have been trying the lettrine module and have come across some unexpected behaviour. I have been following the documentation found here http://modules.contextgarden.net/dl/t-lettrine/doc/context/third/lettrine/l… and have proceeded to make a minimal example: \usemodule[lettrine] \starttext \lettrine[Lines=3]{T}{his is a test} \input knuth \stoptext Unfortunately the output is not quite what (I think) it should be. It appears that the first line is rendered as expected, but that it is followed by a vertical gap---an extraordinary line spacing if you will---that places the second line all the way beneath the 'T', where the forth line would be expected. However, the second and third line are indented the way you would expect, they are just two lines further down as they should. As this may be hard to express, I have attached a small PDF with the result of the above code. Thank you, Malte.

Hello, In addition to \startbuffer \stopbuffer it would be nice to have \startappendbuffer \stopappendbuffer. I see that the lua function buffer.append() exists but I have not worked-out how to add this functionality cleanly as conTeXt macros. I imagine that this might be quite trivial for our TeX programming experts... (for once, a [useful?] suggestion that in the end will not entail many hours of work? :) Alan

Hi there, I am setting with grids. Now in classical typographie not all text-elements have to be grid-setted, f.e. titles not. How to deactivate gridsetting for titles? This is relevant, because titles and the distances between a title and the before and the after text ist very important for text-aesthetics. F.e. if I have ++++++++++ Paragraph \section{Blub} \seubsection{blub1} Nextparagraph ++++++++++ I want to deactivate grid-setting after the first paragraph and want to activate it with the beginning of the next. Problems with contextual kerning

Hello, In EB Garamond I’ve implemented decomposition for all composed glyphs. For uppercase greek I had to use contextual kerning rules: accents like grave or acute and aspiration marks are placed left of the letter, so the glyph has to be placed more to the right and its advance increased. The code in the feature file looks like this: pos [ Epsilon Eta Iota Rho ]' <79 0 79 0> @grk_tlAcc1; Iota adscriptum needs extra space on the right of the base glyph, so there are position rules for that too: pos Eta' <0 0 200 0> uni0345.cap1; and pos Eta' <79 0 279 0> uni0345.cap1 @grk_tlAcc1; Context (and LuaLaTeX too) doesn’t do the positioning correctly. I’ve prepared a minimal example of uppercase etas. The first row without decomposition, the second decomposed, the third with alternate uni0345.cap1 (iota adscriptum). The first two should look exactly the same: \usemodule[simplefonts] \setmainfont[ebgaramond] \definefontfeature[decomp][ss20=yes] \definefontfeature[iota1][ss20=yes,cv81=1] \starttext ἨἩἪἫἬἭἮἯᾘᾙᾚᾛᾜᾝᾞᾟῌ \par \addff{decomp}ἨἩἪἫἬἭἮἯᾘᾙᾚᾛᾜᾝᾞᾟῌ \par \addff{iota1}ἨἩἪἫἬἭἮἯᾘᾙᾚᾛᾜᾝᾞᾟῌ \par \stoptext I use ss20 for full decomposition because it should be selected by the user explicitly only when needed, while ccmp should be enabled by default. The attached ctx_test.pdf shows its output. The font used can be downloaded at http://georgduffner.at/ebgaramond/fonts/EBGaramond12-Regular.otf. Hi there, I got a question considering the registers. I'd like to distinguish between the definition of some term and its appearance/use somewhere else (boldface vs. normal font of page number for instance). Bibliography in authornum format

I am using ConTeXt ver: 2013.01.10 01:04 MKIV and here is the MWE. I would like to create numbered bibliography with *Author name [1]* format. If multiple authors are present then it should produce *Author /et al./ [1]*. This does not happen. Instead I get *Author, [1]*. Since I am new to ConTeXt, I might be making a basic mistake. Any ConTeXt-Lua changes

Hi, I wrote Lua routines a while back that parse a string representation of a weekly schedule to create a table representation of the schedule. It worked last fall. Certainly in August, 2012 and I think at least as late October. I just tried it again, but it failed; and it failed on the same file it worked on before. Before I roll up my sleeves and starting digging through the code, I was wondering if something had changed in the last two or three months that I should know about. Controlling Appearance of \inoutermargin

Hi, I have just changed one of my documents from single-page to double-page to be printed as a book. I have some margin remarks, that used to be on the left which I am now trying to move to the outer margin on odd and even pages (that is, left on even, right on odd pages). In doing so, I had to modify all of my \inmargin's to \inoutermargins (Please pull me up on this if this is not a good way of doing this; I found this in some forum, there does not seem to be a Wiki page about this command). As it turns out, I am no longer able to control the appearance of these \inoutermargins using my \setupinmargin command. I have been playing with different options, like \setupinmargin[outer][style=\slx, color=darkgray, stack=yes] or \setupinoutermargin[style=\slx, color=darkgray, stack=yes] but cannot get it to work. Is there any documentation about the \inoutermargins command? Any hints? Thank you, Malte.

Marco, Thank you, I have opted for your solution as it was the one I most easily understood and it seems to do the job. One thing, though, it turns out the #pageno variable does not seem to work. I had to rename it to #1 to do the trick. Even #p did not work. Do those variables have to be numbers? Hi, I have a rather wide, 41mm, outer margin in a manual and I am trying to put the page number into the margin like so: \setuppagenumbering[ alternative=doublesided, location={header, margin}, style=bold, ] The trouble is that the page number is only a few millimetres wide and gets positioned on the inside edge of my outside margin. Hence, it does not end up close enough to the edge of the page. I guess, I would like to right-align it 4mm from the edge of a right-hand page and left-align it by the same amount from the edge of a left-hand page. Is that doable? Thank you, Malte.

I am not sure whether I installed all components correctly, so I tried to compile different simple test files. As I don't understand the error messages, I would like to ask for help. **************** 0. Place an annotation before it is defined

Hi, what is the best solution to place the content of annotations before they are defined in the text? What comes to mind is writing the content into an external file and read it in the next run. But maybe I overcomplicate things (usually I do) and there's a simpler solution. two problems with xml processing

Hi all, I am encountering two problems with xml processing; minimal example below. My questions/observations: 1. How can I prevent every index term to be sorted under "x" (for \xmlflush)? 2. Hi, I'm using a product/component structure with interaction but it seems that hyperlink targets pointing to manually set pagereferences in another component file do not work as they should: The line/page numbers on the link is correct, but the hyperlinks points to _component.pdf_ (which opens, if it has been compiled by itself before, otherwise the link is just going nowhere) instead of the page in product.pdf On the other hand, hyperlinks to a chapter/... head work as expected. I haven't used interaction much until now, so I might well be missing something, but this seems like a bug to me. Thanks in advance! Dear List, I posted this question before, (28 december, ntg-context Digest, Vol 102, Issue 65) but there was little activity on the list around that time and my question may have been overlooked. So that is why I give it another try. The book that I am working on has an index of authors. On some pages of the book an author's name only occurs in a footnote. Is it possible in ConTeXt to mark, in the index, those occurrences in footnotes so that in these cases not only the page number appears in the index but also, preferably as superscript, the footnote number on that page? As for example: Arnold, Franck Th. 283 indicating footnote 3 on page 28 (the "3" should have been superscript here but I cannot make a superscript in this mail editor) Thanks in advance for any help. Metafun textext()

Metafun textext() has been changed in an attempt to be more efficient. However, this has a side effet that it now handles colors differently, among other things. The following example, intended to cause difficulties for the color blind, no longer works.
