LuaTeX has troubles with contextual kern

Hi, in EB Garamond I have some contextual lookups in the kern feature with which LuaTeX in context standalone (updated today in the morning) seems to have problems (the issue is not new, I’ve already reported it in january but perhaps that was a bit too confusing). The test document is: \definefontfeature[default][default][mode=base] \definefontsynonym[ebg][file:EBGaramond12-Regular.otf] \definefontfeature[ss20][ss20=yes] \definefontfeature[iota1][cv81=1] \definefontfeature[iota2][cv81=2] \definefontfeature[altcirc][cv80=1] \define\test{Tì αᾟα\par} \starttext \definedfont[ebg*default at 12pt]\test \addfeature{ss20}\test \addfeature{iota1}\test \addfeature{iota2}\test \addfeature{altcirc}\test \stoptext The font is at http://www.georgduffner.at/ebgaramond/fonts/EBGaramond12-Regular.otf The corresponding lookups in the kern.fea roughly contain pos T' 145 i.dotless gravecomb; which increases the right sidebearing of T by 145 before i.dotless followed by gravecomb and pos Eta' <218 0 218 0> uni0345.cap @grk_tlAcc2; pos Eta' <218 0 418 0> uni0345.cap1 @grk_tlAcc2; pos Eta' <218 0 558 0> uni0345.cap2 @grk_tlAcc2; where @grk_tlAcc2 contains the accents attached at the top left of the glyph and which means that Eta is positioned at 218 inside its bounding box and the bounding box is expanded by the third value between <>, on the condition that it’s followed by uni0345.cap* and the said accents. ss20 does a full decomposition of all composed glyphs so I can replace any component by an alternate glyph. Their order corresponds to canonical decomposition. disabling a header on the first page

I am building a context document with a title page. I want to disable the header on the title page. This comes before the first \chapter tag. The documentation indicated that you can disable the header on a page with the \page command. I tried several different things as the first command after \starttext, but none of these disabled the header: \page[header=none] \page[header] \page[header=high] Can anybody tell me how I disable the header on the first page? I would really appreciate the help. -Lance Larsen

Accessing string contents of a macro in Lua.

Hi all, Below are three methods of defining a dimension / dimension string in ConTeXt --- the first two boil down to storing a string in a macro, the last is a proper TeX dimen. I want to access these dimensions from Lua. I can access the dimen via tex.dimen.ColumnC, but how can I access the macro contents? [luatex-fonts] error with Amiri due to inclusion of font-otp.lua

Hi, including font-otp triggers an error with the Amiri font: ! LuaTeX error ./luaotfload-merged.lua:10471: invalid value (nil) at index 1 in table for 'concat'. Which corresponds to line 192 of font-otp.lua. Test code: \font\test={file:amiri-regular.ttf} \test ضرب \bye Or with Context: \mainlanguage[arabic] \definefontsynonym[amiri][file:amiri-regular.ttf] \starttext \definedfont[amiri*arabic at 42pt] \setupalign[r2l] ضرب 0123456789 \stoptext I have tested the Amiri files from TeX Live 2012 and 2013. Can somebody reproduce this, possibly with other fonts? Scheherazade works fine. Thanks for any advice Philipp

A simpler way to make a bibliography

After struggling with all the programming prescribed by Context to set up a bibliography, and examining a few dozen *.bib, *.bst and a *bbl file, I decided to do things the simple way. My concept is, that instead of creating a *bib file I could with the same amount of effort create a plain text file to be imported directly into my Context file. I studied the bibliography of "The Chicago Manual of Style" to determine the order, punctuation and format. My file is called "book.foo." Now if I choose to use some of these entries in another book a simple cut and paste between two editor sessions will do. For ease in editing I put each item in each entry on a separate line. TeX/Context will take care of puttng them together in a paragraph. Of course this lacks the generality of the bibtex approach. But I don't need all that flexibilty. None of the current biblio styles specified for Context incorporate the ISBN field. So I just put it at the end of each entry preceded by a \crlf. localfootnotes and bodyfontsize in a placetable

The following attached "minimal" example using local footnotes and a small body font size exhibits two problems: 1. The \placelocalfootnotes are incoherently in the "normal" size, as I would expect them to be proportionally reduced. 2. The width of the first column gets incorrectly set (there is a break between "a" and "cell"). Probably there is a better way of achieving this correctly. Set background color for a single page

Sometimes, I only want a single page, say, the titlepage or page 32, with colored background rather that the whole document. Thank you all!!!!!! My book from last year (15.000 lines text + context-code and 1.500 lines macro-code now was compiled without no further problems! I only had to change all \define\variable ... to \defineexpandable\variable ... I think, now I understand a little bit more about ConTeXt and try again to give a little bit back to the community. Only one wasn't working: \defineexpandable\ColumnABii {\ctxlua{context([==[\ColumnA + \ColumnB]==])}} ColumnABii: \ColumnABii The result is: ColumnABii: 30mm+ 40mm And it should be ColumnABii: 70mm And in the other cases I get back: 199.16928pt instead of 70mm but this seems to be the same. I think this calculating with dimension is not very well documented in the context-wiki. Thus I would like to write a small article about "Calculating with dimension units" in the wiki.contextgarden.net to help others a bit. Or is there already an article somewhere? Regards Jannis

In a book I produced with ConTeXt last year, I did a lot of calculation to be able to change the layout dynamicaly. With the actual version of ConTeXt I can't compile the book. I have tried a lot of things today ... without success. Having for example xml-structure: <rootnode> <node1><subnode1>..</subnode1></node1> <node2/> /node3/> </rootnode> With the path expression \xmlall{#1}{!node1} the <node1> should be suppressed, as happens in case. However, nodes under <node1> like <subnode1> should be suppressed because <node1> is suppressed. But that is not the case, these nodes do appear. Apparently I need another path expression. rotated placetable

Hello, On October 1, 2010 Mojca asked about inserting a rotated page content (landscape) in an otherwise portrait document, keeping the headers and footers upright. The suggested solution was essentially \rotate [rotation=90] {\startTEXpage [width=\textheight,height=\textwidth] ... \stopTEXpage} I would like to place a wide table rotated as above, keeping the page headers and footers upright. In other words, I would like to do something like \startplacetable [location=page,orientation=90,title=Table caption] ... \stopplacetable That is, rotate the table contents *and its caption*, but not the page header and footer. Kile for ConTeXt

Does anyone here uses Kile for ConTeXt? On contextgarden-wiki I read "has native ConTeXt support as well". I installed Kile and as the only thing concerning ConTeXt II found Build -> Compile -> ConTeXt But no highlighting or autocompletion. Google gave no answer. stoppers in section heading without having stoppers in references?

In MkIV, is there a way to get a stopper (e.g. ".") in the section heading, along the lines of "1. First heading" but without a reference to it having the stopper? Thus, the reference should be just "In Chapter 1 we learn", not "In Chapter 1. we learn"? I have tried many variants of the following minimal example: \setuphead[chapter][sectionstopper=.] \definereferenceformat [inchapter] [text={Chapter~}] \starttext \chapter[one]{First heading} \input knuth \inchapter[one] we learn. \stoptext -Sanjoy

The following two commands seem to do the same: \defineexpandable\... \def\... And this two also do the same: \define\... \unexpanded\def\... \def is a low-level-command and shouldn't be used. Right? Regards Janis

An example which was working with ConText (version beginning 2012) - and now I get an error: \define\imagepath {/home/janis/images} \starttext \externalfigure[\imagepath/test.jpg] \stoptext LuaTeX error [string "\directlua "]:1: invalid escape sequence near '\i' Without my parameter \imagepath there ist no problem. And if I want to see the "echo" of the parameter with \imagepath I get "/home/janis/images" which I expect. I need parameters very often. How can I use my parameter \imagepath in \externafigure? Is fine-grained grid control possible?

I asked a question on tex.stackoverflow, and it was suggested ConTeXt could help and that I should repost my question here. http://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/108850/is-fine-grained-grid-control-… I want to make a variety of checklists which are essentially based on a grid layout. I care about having fine-grained control over the exact placement of labels and boxes. I do not care about paragraphs, hypenation, equations, or anything like that which I know TeX is very good at. Is ConTeX a good fit for my needs? How could I do it? I've already though about Tikz and PGF but I don't think they give me enough fine-grained control. If I fail to find a way to solve my problem using TeX I will probably explore SVG and PostScript. Missing number error, related to setupcolumnsetlines

Hello, I've got a "Missing number error, treated as zero". I've whittled the problem code down to this minimal example: \definecolumnset [abbcolumn] [n=2,distance=5mm,balancing=yes] \setupcolumnsetlines[abbcolumn][1][1][60] \setupcolumnsetlines[abbcolumn][1][2][60] \starttext \startcolumnset[abbcolumn] foo \stopcolumnset \stoptext By contrast, if I remove the \setupcolumnsetlines commands, the error goes away. (But I think I need those commands, in case the text has more than 60 lines.) Also, if I run the example shown on this page http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Command/setupcolumnsetlines which seems very similar to mine, it works fine; no errors. Based on the latter working example, I tried adding the following to my minimal example that fails: \switchtobodyfont[small] or \setupcolumnsetstart[abbcolumn][1][1][1] \setupcolumnsetstart[abbcolumn][1][2][1] but neither one solved the problem. Lucida doesn't work in TL 2013 / latest ConTeXt

Hi, in TL 2013 neither \setupbodyfont[lucida] nor \setupbodyfont[lucidanova] works. The first one gives: !LuaTeX error: Invalid local font in font lbr! ==> Fatal error occurred, no output PDF file produced! and the other one complains about ! Math error: parameter \Umathquad\displaystyle is not set. (I've set "export TEXMFLOCAL=/path/to/texmf/with/both/lucidas".) When trying the same with latest distribution I get ! Can't make ISBN print in bibliography

Still having trouble with that pesky ISBN field in my bibliography. The file makes it to the book.bbl file but never prints no matter what .bst file I reference. Hello, I naively tried using \bTD\numexpr\currentTABLErow\minusone\relax\dTD in a TABLE. As I do not master even simple calculations under TeX, I do not see what I am missing in order to label TABLE rows, starting from 0? (Row 1 is a heading, set off by \bTABLEhead\eTABLEhead, which is why I am looking to subtract 1 from \currentTABLErow, but this does not matter of course. But perhaps the addressing of TABLE rows, including within \setupTABLE, should or could handle this situation? This is a secondary question to think about...) Alan

Hi, for subsections I use \setuphead[subsection] [after=\vskip-1.6mm, before={\testpage[5]\vskip1.6mm}] The reason is perfect distances between text-subsection-text with activated gridding. If the subsection is not set by \testpage on the next page, then everything workes fine! But if, then I want to not use the \vskips in "after" and "before". I want (in pseudo-pseudocode) something like this: if(less then 5 lines, thas is, testpage sets the subsection on the next page) then: \setuphead[subsection] [after=, before=] I hope I could make clear, what I intend to achieve. With \placetable[force][] one can force to set the table here. Other keywords like" here, auto" etc. do work aswell. But with \starplacetable it does not work, how to do it correctly? My try was: \startplacetable[force][title={Blub}]{<table>} But that does not work, the table is shifted to a "best place", if there would be no "force". Syntax wrong? Huseyin

Two Bibliography questions

For my bibliography I want to use the harvard style and the author-date form of the \cite command. I am using the sample.bib file for testing. I have progressed to the point where the bibiography shows the contents of sample.bib properly formatted. But I still have a problem with the printing of the actual citation. My \cite command looks like: \cite{Eijkhout1991} but all that prints out is: [1] Ideally I would see: (Eijkhout, 1991) What other adjustments do I need to make to correct this printout of the citation in the text? With the following setup my endnotes show up in the list with [number], as I would like to have it. But in the text they do not appear as [number] but just as plain numbers. Why does textcommand has not this effect, whereas numbercommand does? typesetting TOC

I am very sorry, but I still cannot understand how to get the TOC as I would like it. The following does typeset the Content header but is empty otherwise. \startfrontmatter \completelist[content][criterium=chapter] \stopfrontmatter I tried various possibilities from the reference manual, like \placelist[section][criterium=chapter]. But either this doesn't work (anymore?) or I am doing something very stupid. But these call do nothing. It seems so simple: use the \complete.. mechanism (because this wraps the TOC nicely) to typeset a selection from the TOC using the criterium-mechanism. Which seems to me just made for this sort of action. But nothing comes out of it. Hans van der Meer

How to find the source code/documentation for a specific command

Hello ConTeXt list, I am a new user of ConTeXt and I am trying to write my very first document with this program. However, it is often difficult to find explanation about commands and their options. Most of the documentation and examples seems outdated or incomplete... I know that you are currently writing a new version of the manuals and that it is a time consuming task so before I plague you with questions I may have, I would like to know how to find the source code of a command (which may include embedded documentation). For example how can I find the source file for the \setupinteraction command? (I am using ConTeXt on Windows.). If I can find more information by myself I will not have to take too much of your time. With \at[ref] one can get the pagenumber of a reference. If this reference is not there (maybe in another file, not included at that moment) there is no error given, but two question marks ??. That is of course useful, but what if I WANT an error? Because that is the only fast way to detect typing errors in references. I indent footnotes with: \setupnotation[footnote][ alternative=left, width=1em, numbercommand=\high] But that causes the following ugliness: The distance between the footnote-number and the footnote-entry is not always the same, it depends now on the length of the footnote-number – see the difference of footnotenumber 9 and 10. By default, that is not the case. How to get the default results with indentation? It is not only an ugliness, it causes problems, when you have really much footnotes, than (with more than 99 or even more than 999 footnotes) the footnotenumber, and the footnote-entry overlap.) The distance above to the horizontal line is (very) little smaller than the distance at the bottom. How to correct that? That is indeed the case with the following input: ABC \starttext CONTENT \stoptext But add a \setupbodyfont and suddenly the ABC appears: \setupbodyfont[lmodern] ABC \starttext CONTENT \stoptext Is this correct behaviour? In plain TeX, we always use \def for creating a new macro, but in ConTeXt, sometimes it won't work, especially when making own chapter titles. The \def can produce the error message like this : "Argument of \... has an extra }". \define in ConTeXt can solve this problem. What's the difference between \def and \define? Can I use \define to replace all \def?

With \placecontents I am able to put the TOC for a chapter right after the chapter heading. So far so good. But now I would like to suppress in the overall TOC all elements below the chapters. How to? At the moment I am using \completecontent for calling up the TOC. I looked in the ConTeXtGarden but the explanation for \completecontent didn't make me any wiser.For example, I do not understand the meaning of the three successive []-pairs in \completecontent[..][..][..] and the link to \setuplist didn't help me out. Sadness from a Windows ConTeXt user

I have asked Hans about this problem two days ago, but now the problem still. I make sure that my context standalone is the lastest. I download the "context-setup-mswin.zip" from the ConTeXt wiki and extract it to the D:\, double-clicking the firstsetup.bat. When it finish the rest, I add "D:\context\tex\texmf-mswin\bin" to User Path. Can this get the lastest ConTeXt standalone? I think it can. Using: \startplacefigure[location=force,title={First dummy caption}] \inmargin{First margin dummy} \externalfigure[dummy][width=\textwidth] \stopplacefigure The text in the \inmargin section appears at the bottom of the figure. This works for about one line of text. For some of the figures I'm trying to put 3-4 lines in a wide margin and would like the text to appear at the top or the middle of the figure. Zoom to a box when clicking

For a presentation, I want to display a series of images as a combination and be able to click on an image to zoom into that image and click again to zoom out. Is it possible to do that? In general, can I create a hyperlink such that clicking on it zooms in on a particular rectangular region on a page? Thanks, Aditya

vskip in lines

With \vskip-0.9cm one can relocate 0.9cm. If one uses grid-setting, it would be easier to give the dimension in lines, like \vskip-2*line – but this gives an error, how to do that correctly? Huseyin

tikz-cd - commutative diagrams

Dear gang, The tikz module works, as per the attached attached test file. I need some commutative diagrams and found something relatively recent and interesting: http://www.ctan.org/pkg/tikz-cd But \input'ing the file tikz-cd.tex after the tikz module does not work; I get an undefined control sequence for a normal tikz command. I commented the LaTeX commands % \ProvidesPackage{tikz-cd}[2012/12/30 v0.3c Commutative diagrams with tikz.] % \RequirePackage{tikz}[2010/10/13] % pgf version 2.10 required and the rest is just pgf syntax. What else do I need to do to get this working properly? Do I need to place tikz-cd in the pgf tree? If so, where? In the attached I have not used any code that depends on tikz-cd; comment \usemodule[tikz-cd] and the file runs fine. Vertical location of combinations

How do I control the vertical location of combinations? I want output similar to ABC \framed[frame=no, location=top]}\startcombination[2] {\externalfigure[dummay][width=2cm]}{One} {\externalfigure[dummay][width=2cm]}{Two} \stopcombination} DEF without having to explictly add a \frame. Looking at pack-com, I tried \useMPlibrary[dum] \setupcombination[location=top] \starttext ABC \startcombination[2] {\externalfigure[dummay][width=2cm]}{One} {\externalfigure[dummay][width=2cm]}{Two} \stopcombination DEF ABC \framed[frame=no, location=top]}\startcombination[2] {\externalfigure[dummay][width=2cm]}{One} {\externalfigure[dummay][width=2cm]}{Two} \stopcombination} DEF \stoptext but the combination is still aligned to the baseline of the caption.
