Two questions about registers

Hi list, I have two questions regarding registers. 1. How to change the title of the register (placed by \completeregister) and its numbering style? (Assume that e.g. I want it to be an unnumbered section and not a numbered chapter.) 2. I'd like my register not to have the headers with subsequent letters of the alphabet. I did [indicator=no] in \setupregister, but still got the *vertical spacing* between gropus of entries beginning with the same letter. Then, I did also [before={}], but then the space between entry groups is actually *smaller* than the usual interline space (confirmed by doing \showgrid). MAC (preview, finder) and ConTeXt pdf

Hello, A colleague who uses a very recent MacBook with the latest MacOS has a problem with PDF files that I provide produced with ConTeXt/luatex. It appears that he cannot search for words (text) in the document, neither with preview nor in the finder (they must be based on the same code). However, I had him install Adobe Reader, and using this he can search for text in the ConTeXt produced document, so I do not believe that the PDF has a problem, rather this is a bug with the Apple PDF tools. Does anyone else using MacOS have any experience with this? Or can you all search for text (words) within ConTeXt produced PDF documents using preview and the finder? Thank you Alan

Enclosing the year in round brackets in online citation.

Hello, A question to the \cite command. Following, http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Bibliography I defined \def\onlinecite{\cite[left=,right=]} so that I can cite bib-entries online in the text. However, I need to enclose the year of a citation in round-brackets. At the moment, I get: Jon Doe, 2013, has shown that... But I need: Jon Doe (2013) has shown that..., as this is required. I couldn't find any reference what I can do with \cite and what possibilities there are. Any idea? Thank you for your help. Thomas

Ok, doesn't matter, if impossible, then impossible. Next question: With the font file "maddina.ttf" I have the same problems. Font problems

Hi there, I cant run the font "ramnaclq-webfont.ttf" (see attachment) in Context. After the command "mtxrun --script fonts --reload" and "mtxrun --script font --list --all ramna" I get: > ramnaclassiqueregular ramnaclassique c:/windows/fonts/ramnaclq-webfont.ttf So the font is installed, correct? But it can not be used in Context, test this: \definefont[amiri][file:ramnaclq-webfont.ttf*arabic at 17 pt] \define[1]\Arab{\setupalign[r2l]\amiri#1} \starttext \Arab{ نَسْتَعِينُ وَلَا الضَّالِّينَ } \stoptext Then the text in the pdf is not there. I have a problem with hidden text.When I compile minimal example (ala ConTeXtgarden example): \starttext Visible text: \input tufte \startproperty[hidden] Hidden text: \input tufte \stopproperty \stoptext then I get errormessage: (C:/context/tex/texmf-context/tex/context/sample/tufte.tex) ! \definehighlight with style=command problem

I an trying to use \definehighlight to define a macro that will color and overstrike selected text. Thus far, \definehighlight[Delete][color=red,style={\overstrike}] \starttext test \Delete{test} test \stoptext reports ! Too many }'s. system > tex > error on line 4 in file ...TEST.tex: Too many }'s ... If I replace “\overstrike” with “bold”, “\Delete” works. “\overstrike” works otherwise, so am I trying the impossible here? Alan

Bibliography: spacing in cite, lettering of repeated years

I am just starting with the bibliography module and ran the following test: \cite[authoryear,left=(yes: ,right=; Rk)][frank98foundations] here, \cite[author][frank98foundations], then \cite[year][frank98foundations], then \cite{otrosina88isozyme,frank91ecological,frank98foundations,abraham82dynamics:} said and then { \cite[otrosina88isozyme]} commented and then \cite{abraham82dynamics:} With my setup, that gave: (yes: Frank 1998; Rk) here, Frank, then 1998, then (Otrosina et al. 1988; Frank 1991c,1998; Abraham and Shaw 1982) said and then (Otrosina et al. 1988) commented and then (Abraham and Shaw 1982) I give more on setup below. My three issues: 1. The space after the period in "et al." stretches, which does not look right. I tried modifying the "otherstext" field in various ways, but could not get a working solution. Any advice? 2. With the "compress" option on for authoryears, the dates 1991c,1998 are correctly combined in the second set, but I would like a space as "1991c, 1998" instead of "1991c,1998". 3. The citations listed here are all of the ones in the current document. The date 1991c should be 1991, without a letter, because there is neither 1991a nor 1991b. Is there a way to get consistent letter of repeated years, such that no letter is present without repeat, and the letters are given in the order in which they appear in the text? --- I am new to ConTeXt, and started by copying someone else' environment. With \setupalign[flushleft], nonbreakable spaces get larger than they should. I'm afraid it's a bug. Understanding the imposing-mechanism

Hi there, following Wolfgangs suggestion, I set every game-card on a single page now. All cards are in one pdf-File, each on his own page. Every page has the size 47,5mm x 76mm. Now I tried to place the pages on a big sheet, its size is 660mm x 330mm, s.th. the small cards are set in a 4*13 sceme (floor(330/76)=4 and floor(660/47,5) = 13) - but I failed. There is an example in the wiki for imposing existing pdf-pages, but I do not understand it, and if I try to change its values for my example, I get nothing reasonable, nor even understandable. GLIBC 2.7 requirement for Standalone ConTeXt

Hello, I'm running a build server on an older box with CentOS 5. I didn't update ConTeXt Standalone in quite some time. Now I did since I had some problems with the dated version in use, and now I face the following problem: texlua: /lib/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.7' not found (required by texlua) texlua: /lib/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.11' not found (required by texlua) CentOS 5 still ships GLIBC 2.5. What can I do from here? Any chance on running ConTeXt without upgrading the whole system? -- Best Regards, Andreas

Just to try another attempt for getting hints from you: You can see in the examples, the the middle vertical line (which is just the right frame of the left cell) is not exactly as high as the text needs. It is a bit higher and stick a little bit out, at the beginning (top) and at the end (bottom) of the natural table. How to fix this, so that the vertical line (right border frame) exactly ends and begins with the textline? That would help to get an exact connection to the next block. Of course the alternative would be to set frame=off for the tables and to place an vertical line as overlay on every single page (as background). But for that I would have to use the length of the text on a page, to adjust the line as long, as needed, not longer, not over the complete page every time. Thanks! Huseyin

Tabulate: vertical distance between rows

Hello, are there more ways how to affect vertical distance between rows within \start/stop-tabulate? 1) There is one, described on wiki (http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Tabulate) ---- \unprotect \appendtoks \blank[halfline] \to \t_tabl_tabulate_every_after_row \protect ... ---- Its problem is that I don't know how to call it by Lua. The following code fails: ---- \startluacode context[[ \unprotect \appendtoks \blank[halfline] \to \t_tabl_tabulate_every_after_row \protect ]] \stopluacode ... ---- So how to make it acceptable by Ctx? 2) Is there another way, e.g. inserting something each time before \NC\NR or elsewhere)? Hi, With this minimal exemple : %%% MWE \setupbodyfont[dejavu] \starttext 1. \m{E = m c^2} \par 2. \m{\bf E = m c^2} \par 3. {\bf \m{E = m c^2}} \par 4. \bold{\m{E = m c^2}} \par \stoptext %%% The letters disappear in the case 4. I had a look into the font manual and it seems to be related to the bold/mathbold difference but I do not understand these subtilities enough to understand what goes wrong. Now, I only want to write in the editor the commands \esl[blub1][blub1][blub1] \esl[blub2][blub2[blub2] \esl[blub3][blub3][blub3] etc. and these images / overlays should be placed automatically vertically and horizontically over the sheets, like a tesselation (and after that they will be printed and cutted). The order of setting the cards is not important. If one page is full, then they should be placed automatically on the next page - but perfectly the same way, on the same locations, like on all other pages. That is important for cutting, each card should have two sides, so they have to match in location. Is there a way to do this? Thank you. The first block is the example, the correct setting. But the first block can not be broken over pages. This is fixed by the second block, where I seperated the text into two "\arde", so now it can be broken over pages, because they are now two different tables. But if they are NOT broken over pages, they sould be set as if they were only one table, so as in the first "\startarde\stoparde" block. But the are not. You see the small distance between them. Is there a way to produce the behavior I descibed? It would be a workaround to get natural tables, which can be broken over pages (my manually sperating them). (Only natural tables are possible for this environment, and not normales tables, because of the needed different interlinespace of the two columns). Thanks. Huseyin

partial derivatives with bonum/pagella font

Hi all, The following examples give wrong space. There is a space between the prime and the subscripted x. If I do not load the bonum font it just looks as it should. \setupbodyfont[bonum] \starttext $f'_x$, $f_x'$ $f\prime_x$. \stoptext (it does not look good with the pagella font either...) I use a natural table to format my page header. I have another natural table in the body. When the body's table is split onto the second page it interferes with the formatting of the header's table, but only the header-table on the first page. I've included an example. Run as-is, the header has the correct format. Uncomment the last row of the body table to see the incorrect header formatting. Missing °C symbol in math mode with dejavu font

Hi all, The °C symbol is missing in math mode with the dejavu font. I thought that this should be handled by using the '°' + 'C' symbols instead but it is not the case. Is that a bug? Help understanding framed!

Hi Everybody, I am trying to develop a module for writing Nassi-Schneidermann-Diagrams. I thought I would use framed and metafun. But, I have run into, for me at least, strange behaviour. I have given MWE and attach the result and a second file which is required. What I do not understand is why the first line after \MyBoxit is "indented" (see source and result below). The second is why when I nest \MyBoxit do I get extra vertical space? Yes, I have found a work around, as I was preparing this mail. Notice, the use of location! footnote rollover message in PDFs (with interaction)

The PDFs that I produce are now being read on a number different platforms, some with very small screens. So, in the case of footnotes at least, I was wondering if there was a way to produce PDFs such that when the cursor passes over the footnote call, the popup message includes the entire footnote and not just “Go to page xx”. Problems with SciTE 3.31 and context package

Having a bit of a problem. I installed SciTE, scintillua and Hans' customizations yesterday and things are not working. SciTE crashes as soon as my context files are loaded. SciTE is version 3.31 (latest) scintillua is version 3.3.0-1 (latest precompiled which has 64-bit .so file included) context add-ons are from a recent beta and have file dates as late as 28-April-2013 system is Linux LadyGeraldine 3.2.0-43-generic #68-Ubuntu SMP Wed May 15 03:33:33 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux wwm@LadyGeraldine$ SciTE Lua Error: /usr/share/scite/lexers/scite-context-lexer.lua:508: attempt to compare number with nil. Hello together, designing a card-game I use an overlay as background an a frame, with three parts, realized as three frames in the outer frame (which is simply the border of the card). Hi, I just want to know if there is any tool to convert a pdf (generated by latex or context) to latex source or context source file. Does anyone have got an experience on that? I'm thinking about two alternatives: * libraries for reading like podofo and custom script for passing pdf context (text) to context commands * pass pdf to jpg, and apply http://detexify.kirelabs.org/classify.html for passing to tex symbols. For me it's vital to pass mathematical symbols like (\int) to tex symbol and not like utf-8 symbols. Thanks a lot, Xan. Note: pdf could be substitute for ps if you want ;-) PS: Please CCme

MPLibrabray "txt" broken!?

Hi All, Hans, I want to use build_parshape and shapetext with the latest standalone ConTeXt ver: 2013.05.12 22:16 MKIV beta fmt: 2013.5.13 int: english/english with the Example below I get a small box with the top part of a T in it. Interresting enough the example works with the TexLive 2012 version! Makeup layout

Greetings list, A newbie question: how does one adjust the vertical position of text in a makeup block for a title page? It seems to go on the centre no matter what. The voffset and hoffset parameters appear to have no effect. I have heard that layers can be used. But there is no section on layers in the current reference manual. Where does one find information on this aspect of ConTeXt? Andrew

MkIV problem+fix with \framed[location=depth / height / hanging]

Hi Hans, I believe that in MkIV some \framed[location=...] keys are not working, namely `depth`, `height`, and `hanging`. In MkIV these all place the bottom of the frame flush with the baseline, like [location=]. In MkII they behave more sensibly, as follows: * depth: place bottom of frame flush with bottom of the line (i.e. \strutdepth below baseline) * height: place top of frame flush with top of line * hanging: place top of frame flush with baseline Test code below, mkii and mkiv output attached. I have produced a fix for the code in pack-rul.mkiv [1], placed at the very bottom of this e-mail. It works; but it is a pure-bred example of cargo cult programming, i.e. lots of 'making it look right' and very little understanding, so you will probably want to check it. Grid typesetting: aligning section to top of textarea

Dear list, I am making a foray into grid typesetting, and would like to align the top of my (possibly multi-line) section titles with the top of the textarea. I thought I could do that with \setuphead[subject][grid={broad,high}], but this is not working. I have tried nearly every other combination of grid keywords, and then tried them again with the subject wrapped in a framed. The "It's in the details" manual didn't provide help. On the right side, you see the problem with the arabic: The interlinespace. Between the first lines everything is ok, but then the interlinespace becomes smaller and smaller. Why? It is some issue of the table, because if I set the arabic text purely out of the table by \Arab{}, then there is no problem and all interlinespaces are the same. So where comes this from? Huseyin

In context can I use a pdf graphic but rotate it 90 degrees? Extra line: I am getting an unwanted extra empty line at the bottom of two columns with an even number of total lines - with an odd number of total lines no extra empty line appears. How can I get rid of it? (see attached example) 2. This error only appears only with \placecontent[criterium=local] in combination with a beginning line of \writebetweenlist; with a global \placecontent and \writebetweenlist it works fine. Can we have calls to fonts.loggers.onetimemessage() instead, so we can override that one with our own logger? On a related note, we would like to reduce verbosity. In luatex-basics-gen.lua, could we have: logs = logs or { new=dummyreporter, reporter=dummyreporter, messenger=dummyreporter, report=dummyfunction, } So we can provide our own “logs” table? python parse/formatter example on the wiki

I was trying the example of "writing a parse/formatter" under "Verbatim text". The python formatter runs successfully. But when I compile the text file with all the definitions included, an error occurs. <inserted text> } <to be read again> \endgroup \buff_verbatim_type_block_verbatim_indeed ...ines \dostoptagged \csname #2\e... It could be implemented forcefully, but definitely not an excuse to ignore this error. Any solutions?

Hi all, this document: \font\foo="file:LinLibertine_R.otf:+onum;mode=node;" \foo foo 12345 whatever \bye works correctly if the font is uncached but leads to garbled output in firefox’s pdf plugin if the font is loaded from cache. Afaics none of the other viewers are affected. Also I haven’t found another font that does this. Libertine fonts: http://sourceforge.net/projects/linuxlibertine/files/linuxlibertine/5.3.0/ (First observed by Luigi.) What is going on here? Philipp

Hi all, the glyph list is a bit of a conundrum. Context (font-enc.lua) will build its glyph list from font-agl.lua and char-def.lua. Luatex-Fonts reads a file named font-age.lua, which is, however, some 500 character definitions short of the canonical Glyph List from Adobe’s resources [1]. Set layout for the first page of Chapters

Hi, when designing some documents, I hope I can set a global layout and another layout for the first page of all chapters. Hi, in the gnuplot module the following macro is used for the TikZ terminal: \def\calculateGNUPLOTcharsize{% \global\GNUPLOThcharsize=1.05\fontcharwd\font`0% \global\GNUPLOTvcharsize=1.05\fontcharht\font`0% \global\advance\GNUPLOTvcharsize by 1.05\fontchardp\font`g% } What are \font`0 and font`g? AFAIK the backtick converts the character to the character code, which means it yields \font48 and \font103. The goal is to get the current font, right? Why is the current font width and height addressed with `0 and the depth with `g? And when do `0 and `g result in different values? In my tests they were always the same. Marco

mpgraphics confusion

I am a bit confused about the metafum graphis. In the manual (2012) I read (screen version after page 203 section 3.3) the following. \startuseMPgraphic-\useMPgraphic "this graphic is calculated each time it is placed". \startreusableMPgraphic-\reuseMPgraphic "for graphics that don't change". \startuniqueMPgraphic-\uniqueMPgraphic "this graphic is calculated for each distinctive case". missing chars in cid-keyed font table

Hi, With AdobeMyungjoStd-Medium.otf, I cannot typeset some chinese characters. Here is a simple tex source: \starttext \definedfont[name:adobemyungjostdmedium] 黃金빛 \stoptext U+9EC3 黃 and U+91D1 金 are missing in the pdf. LuaJitTeX, \texenginename, and \texengineversion

Hey Luigi, I find the \texenginename and \texengineversion useful for retrieving the backend name and version. They work fine when using the vanilla LuaTeX backend. However, when using LuaJitTeX, the aforementioned macros still seem to retrieve LuaTeX specific information and not LuaJitTeX - unless I'm doing something wrong. Installing an arabic font

Hoping to annoy not everybody here with my arabic-font-questions. I have found I nice free arabic ttf-font, you can download it here: http://fonts.qurancomplex.gov.sa/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/UthmanTN1-Ver10…. One of its types is: "kfgqpcuthmantahanaskhregular" If I type in the cmd C:\Users\Hussein>mtxrun --script font --list --all --pattern=*kf* I get (together with some other lines/fonts): kfgqpcuthmantahanaskhregular kfgqpcuthmantahanaskh c:/windows/fonts/UthmanTN1 Ver10.otf So everything should be ok. But now the following failes: \definefont[amiri][name:kfgqpcuthmantahanaskhregular*arabic at 17 pt] \define[1]\Arab{\setupalign[r2l]\amiri#1} \starttext \Arab{ بِسْمِ ‏للهِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ } \stoptext It compiles, but the output is destroyed, the letters have distances between them. See attached pdf. (In other programms, e.g. MS Word that does not happen, and the font is set correctly.) Apart from this mistake, the font is perfect set by context, even the "Allah" and its "Kassra" has a nice distance (see the other thread). Indeed, if this distace-between-letters problem could be solved, I am happy with arabic in context, this font would be enough, and all other threads of mine could be closed (as far as I am concerned :)) Thanks for your help! TEXpage filename

Hello, In the production of (scientific) articles for journal submissions, one is often expected to supply the figures as separate files. One workflow can be through the use of \startTEXpage\stopTEXpage followed by an external extraction of single pdf pages to separate files. However, is it possible or would it be possible to directly output to a named file, as in: \startTEXpage{figure1.pdf} \stopTEXpage or perhaps \startTEXpage [file=figure1.pdf] \stopTEXpage ? (I could not find an answer looking at the source.) One could then (optionally) reinclude the figure in a review copy of the full text through the use of \externalfigure [figure1] Alan

Small bug in the result filename extension in log

Hi, I just noticed a small bug in the log of a context job. It has no incidence but maybe this can cause a side effect somewhere. When a file contain several dot in its name, context remove the last part in the result filename in the log: $ context test.foo.bar ... system > files > jobname 'test.foo.bar', input './test.foo.bar', result 'test.foo' ... Hello, I tried to type with the arabic font "Amiri" by K. Hosny. You can download it here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/amiri/ In this download-page you find a nice example of the font, setting the sura "Al-Fatiha" (first section of the Holy Qur'an). I tried to regain this example with ConTeXt, but failed. A call to \switchtobodyfont introduces extra vertical spacing as can be seen in the example. Is this intentional or is it something like a % missing somewhere in a macro? Update value of \headerheight based on header content

The code for my headers is of the form: \setupheadertexts[{\inframed[frame=off,width=\textwidth,location=depth,align={right,broad,nothyphenated},tolerance=verytolerant]{Author\\Title\\\tab{\getmarking[chapternumber]} \getmarking[chapter] \wordright{\pagenumber}}}] As you might imagine, the name of every chapter is not the same length. I would like to update the value of \headerheight for each component (each component of my project contains exactly one chapter.) based on the header contents that are produced for it. In LaTeX, for example, I do something similar with the following code: \settototalheight{\headheight}{\parbox{\textwidth}{Author\\Title\\\nameref{chaptername}} Any ideas? Sincerely yours, Adam Khan
