[luatex-fonts] fontloader/plain format broken in beta

Hi Hans, the fontloader (font-otn.lua, line 191) accesses the table nodes.disccodes which is not defined in luatex-basics-nod.lua. If I add that table (as in font-ini.lua), I get a different error, basically stating that various LM-fonts can’t be found (even if I put them in the current working directory). Regards, Philipp

Dear Hans, Thank you for your concern on Korean fonts. I run the given code without the problem. But the output are all black. I just modify the buffer because all the characters are appeared as '?' in the mail. I am running the ConTeXt whose version is 2013. 10.15. Is there anything I have to check? Thank you so much. \startmathcases ... \stopmathcases

Hello All! I order to design a genealogical table I found "\startmathcases ... \stopmathcases" in [1]. It is, what I need, at least partially, with a single left brace adjusting itself in height to the corresponding right text. I know that I'm misusing "mathcases" as my data are pure text and no formulae. But even worse, "mathcases" seem to have a centering environment which makes it difficult to adjust the data of father, mother, grandfather, grandmother and so on in there placement relativ to each other on the page. In the following simple code example there is to be seen, that I had to use \hskip and \vskip by trial and error to dock the second vbox with the first one. That's rather discouraging when thinking of all the rest of genealogical people in 6 generations. Is there a way to make "mathcases" more tame (i.e. without there behaviour to be centered) or do you suggest a complete other method? Hello together, normally I want intendation for new paragraphs, but not, if the paragraph is set on the next page by \testpage. This solution is somewhat easier to imagine than a complex paragraph builder but still involves quite some juggling. 82 MlbibTeX and Its New Extensions — Jean-Michel Hufflen These last years, MlbibTeX's kernel functions have been reused and extended in order to put new programs about bibliographies into action. ConTeXt Suite and system fonts

Dear list, since the topic isn’t specific to MacOSX, I’m starting a new thread. [I assume that OSFONTDIR won’t be set by default in Linux. I’m fine with that.] I think system fonts should be enabled by default in Win and Mac. I think it is a nice feature to newcomers. Of course, Thomas is fully right in requesting not to be forced to use the system fonts. Being the default the use of system fonts, wouldn’t it be possible to add an argument such as "--disable-osfontdir" to first-setup? Just in case it helps, Pablo -- http://www.ousia.tk

Dear list, as Alan pointed two days ago, running: rsync -ptv rsync://contextgarden.net/minimals/setup/first-setup.sh . && ./first-setup.sh --modules=all gets beta from 2013.10.15 13:52, while I think it should get beta from 2013.10.20 07:09. Using CMYK for print jobs

A printer I want to use only handles files which use CMYK colorspace/model.. I tried building my mkiv file using cmyk=yes, as shown below: \setupcolors[state=start, rgb=no, cmyk=yes, overprint=yes] Using ImageMagick's identify program to check the resulting file it show the following: Resolution: 72x72 Print size: 3.58333x2.16667 Units: Undefined Type: PaletteMatte Endianess: Undefined Colorspace: RGBde delegate for this image format `/home/user_a' @ error/constitut Depth: 16/8-bit. Channel depth: red: 8-bit green: 8-bit blue: 8-bit alpha: 1-bit GIMP also shows an RGB model for the resulting pdf file. Also is this mention of pixel resultion of 72x72 correct or useful? I tried to get a 300 dpi resolution for output. Any ideas and advice would be appreciated.

ConTeXt standalone - in what situations is it better?

Hello, I was looking into simplefonts (http://wiki.contextgarden.net/simplefonts) and noticed the clause > if you’re running ConTeXt Standalone > <http://wiki.contextgarden.net/ConTeXt_Standalone> (which is a better > option) Well I'm using TeXLive, but am happy to take good advice, so I looked at http://wiki.contextgarden.net/ConTeXt_Standalone to see why it would be a better option. The basic reason I can see is that Standalone is updated more frequently. So if you're using bleeding-edge features of ConTeXt (including recent fixes to simplefonts?), I can see wanting to use Standalone and have access to the latest features and fixes. On the other hand, if you're working on a large production project that has to be careful of stability, is there any advantage to Standalone over TeXLive? Sure, you can keep a standalone version frozen in place, but then that seems equivalent to staying with an existing version of TeXLive. The other issue for me with Standalone is that the only version listed for Windows is "W32TeX". When I go to the web page for that platform, I don't see any information about what W32TeX is; just how to install it. It sounds like it's specific to 32-bit systems, and mine is 64-bit. But I suppose in that regard it's no different from TeXLive -- the executables are 32-bit but they run fine on 64-bit systems. Does anybody have advice for me on other reasons for switching from TeXLive to ConTeXt Standalone, or reasons not to? Thanks, Lars

After installing Mavericks and attempting to update to the latest Standalone— Problem 1: with sh ./first-setupsh I get Context current version: 2013.10.15 13:52. though it should. I think, be version 2013-10-20 07:11. Hello ConTeXist. I tried convert plainTeX source code into ConTeXt source code so that the output PDF gave the same (or approximately the same) result. I did it for one of plainTEX developers (Mr. Olšák), which compared results of PlainTeX, LaTeX and ConTeXt. However, I encountered the following problem. Is there a way to adjust the spacing before internal itemize environment when the external itemize environment is set as PACKED? \mframed not aligned in mkiv

Need help defining command.

HI All, I remember seeing some seeing what I want to do but I can not find it. I would like to define a command that takes an optional key-valued list and 1 or 2 manditory ones. Hello all, I've discovered the magic of structureuservariabl and have therefore converted all my headings to use the start/stop syntax. It's raised a few quick questions though: 1. Is \startchapter \stopchapter etc the "proper way" to do things from now on? Or is it really just up to the user? 2. Is there a way to provide a default value for a structureuservariable? I'd like to set a reference number based on a global counter if the user doesn't supply their own. 3. In a similar vein - is it possible to define a reference for a section if the user doesn't provide one. E.g. if they provide \startchapter[title=My Example Chapter] instead of: \startchapter[chap:examplechapter][title=My Example Chapter] can I set the reference for them? How do I go about it. According to the Manuals and the Wiki I can use a command How can I access rulethickness in such a manner? I know I could right a command in lua that injects the proper output into the TeX stream, but I am afraid that the the side effects. Could do it in TeX to, but I am not that comfortable with TeX and processing key values therein. Any help and ideas appriciated. regards Keith.

Hello, After reading "Getting Web Content and pdf-Output from One Source" by Thomas A. Schmitz, i'm trying to use the same method to build a PDF file from a HTML one. But i quickly found that when something doesn't work as expected, it's pretty hard to debug because it's hard to tell if the error come from the environment file, the lua code or something else. So are there some useful tricks to debug this kind of processing besides the \enabletrackers command? Especially is there a way to view the generated ConTeXt code after the macro expansion? Hi all, I’m happy to announce a new version of the simplefonts code. Thew new version of the code is a complete rewrite and brings many changes. 1. The module is now part of the core and no external module is needed anymore. 2. The commands to select a font have changed to commands which fit better to context normal syntax. 3. I removed the keys to enable font expansion and protrusion, when you need them use \definefontfeature. To use a font with the simplefonts code two ways are available. The first method is to create one or more typefaces and load it with \setupbodyfont. A complete example for this is: \definefontfamily [mainface] [serif] [DejaVu Serif] \definefontfamily [mainface] [sans] [DejaVu Sans] \definefontfamily [mainface] [mono] [DejaVu Sans Mono] [feature=none] \definefontfamily [mainface] [math] [TeX Gyre Pagella Math] \setupbodyfont[mainface] \starttext \startlines \rm DejaVu Serif \ss DejaVu Sans \tt DejaVu Sans Mono \m{c^2 = a^2 + b^2} \stoplines \stoptext The second method is similar to the old commands of the simplefonts module (e.g. \setmainfont) where the font is enabled after it was set and no \setupbodyfont is necessary. I compile pdf files like shit: context --pdf filename.mkiv What output file options are available on the command line. I checked the wiki garden but couldn't find any information about. Hello, I wanted to refere to a footnote in a text inside a background, but if I get a number in my text, there where no footnote. Dear list, ConTeXt Standalone in Windows uses the system font directory out of the box. In Linux, one needs to set OSFONTDIR to "/usr/share/fonts//". I am creating smalled sized page samples and want to visually compare them on a single sheet of paper stock. I am using \setuparrange to gather the typeset pages onto a single sheet of paper. Half of the pages are displayed upside down, which is what is supposed to happen, but I'd like to have it so that all pages are right side up to enable visual comparison of all pages in one orientation. Windows ConTeXt shows crappy font metrics and font size

Specifically, I want to integrate text between the semi-circle arcs in a rainbow-like structure (with the text placed inbetween the arcs, that should alsó be drawn). The text should not be stretched but center on the top, flowing evenly distributed on each side. setuplayout with duplex -> shifted textarea

Hi, I have a both sided document in which I have to switch the layout inside a page. If I do that with text only content it works fine, but as soon I have "bigger" objects (like a table) the textarea get messed up (shifted horizontally). I added in this example inner and outer margin notes to make it more obvious. Is there a way so solve this "unwanted shifting" like on page 2 of the attached example? Using lua with the command line for "macros"

Hi. At the outset, I understand that this is a slight abuse of LuaTeX and this can be done with plain TeX. Nevertheless, I'd like to see if a solution exists for this approach. I'm trying to use Lua with ConTeXt as a macro preprocessor. To be more clear, I have files A.lua, B.lua which define some variables: A.lua: var1 = "something for a" var2 = "something else for a" B.lua: var1 = "something for b" var2 = "something else for b" And, in my ConTeXt file, I would write: … I will get \directlua{tex.print(var1) and \directlua{tex.print(var2)}. … Now, with lualatex, I use the --lua command line option to pass the initial lua file name. I found what I consider a bug in startcombination processing. context version used: version: 2013.09.03 16:23 Examples: 1.) Good compilable source and 2.) source that fails The bad thing about this is that one, at least checks and checks syntax for errors and the error in fact is simply a blank line, which doesn't stand out as a syntax error in my mind, expecially when white space is supposed to be ignored by tex/context in usual modes. I am seeking to create (or download) a list of useful typescripts. I define useful as those which call upon fonts/typefaces that are actually distributed with texlive. Perhaps this list exists somewhere. If so I would appreciate a pointer. A list of typescripts that is limited to those calling on fonts in the context distribution would be useful if the list described above is not available. Ultimately I wish to winnow down the list to those fonts containing serif typefaces suitable for use in the text of a novel. The font should have at a minimum roman, italic, bold, bold-italic and small caps typefaces. I can if necessary develop this list myself. But I have learned that is better to ask than to reinvent the wheel. All replies appreciated. Bug: Reloading Font

Hi, A font causes mtxrun to hang upon reloading. Replicate: mkdir $HOME/.fonts cd $HOME/.fonts wget http://whitemagicsoftware.com/Copperplate-ThirtyThreeBC.ttf export OSFONTDIR=$HOME/.fonts mtxrun --script fonts --reload Expected Results All the fonts in $HOME/.fonts and subdirectories are globbed and imported, within a few seconds. Actual Results The program hangs at Copperplate 33BC font with the CPU locked at 100%. The process must be killed. Kind regards.

I am trying to create a papersize for a business card (Japanese sized). I want a 3 mm border/edge and the rest of the space available for text space. I'm able to get new this for the vertical dimension, but the horizontal text area is about 20 mm shorter than desired or (intented) setyp values. How can I get this to provide a text are width of 85 mm and not the 65 mm I am currently getting, even tough I only spacife 3mm right and left edges? Spelling out chapter numbers for novels.

It is now fashionable in the U.S. (and maybe elsewhere) to use a spelled-out chapter number in novels. Not finding a function to convert from a number register to a text string I created a brute force file that looks like this: ------------------------------ \def\chapstring{\ifcase\currentheadnumber\or One\or Two\or Three\or Four\or Five\or Six\or Seven\or Eight\or Nine\or Ten\or ... I wonder if there is a function in Context or elsewhere that does this for me? If not, anyone who wants the complete file can write me for a copy. \DL misfunctioning

I'm having some problems. Here is a minimum example showing the problem: Table #1 In the first case \DL[1] does not work and no line is displayed, but the columns line up nicesly. Table #2 In this table I accidentally got \DL[1] to work by added a \NC to th last row. BUT, the last row is not misaligned by about 1 character position. How could I get Example #2 below to align properly and why is \DL not working in example #1? Can someone explain how the "intext" keyword should be used in an item list? I would expect the following minimal example to produce a. first b. second c. third \starttext \startitemize [a,intext] \startitem first \stopitem \startitem second \stopitem \startitem third \stopitem \stopitemize \stoptext Alan

hyphenate urls in a non hyphenated text

Hello, I'm making a flushleft document with no hyphenation. However, URLs are then not hyphenated either and end up in the margin. \hyphenateurl{} works only when setupalign[] is set to hyphenated.
