no list method for \placecombinedlist[content]

Strange issue that has just happened. I updated the latest ConTeXt [ConTeXt ver: 2025.07.07 23:34 LMTX fmt: 2025.7.8 ] and for some reason \placecombinedlist[content] is giving me a page full of 'no list method' instead of the contents. If I run the same file in an older version, I have no problem, and the Table of Contents appears as it should. I have made no changes to the file that worked perfectly beforehand. Why this 'no list method'? Julian

Cache converted svg images

Hi, is there a way store the metapost code which is created from a included svg image to shorten run time. When you have many images (1000+) it takes a while to create the pdf file (I guess IO to read the images plays a big factor). Attached is small set of images with a test file. Wolfgang

Full-page illustrations

Hello Is it possible to suppress the headline on pages which are entirely occupied by an illustration? This is sometimes useful to maximize the space available for the picture, especially a landscape picture with a lot of detail. I have used 'orientation=270' to position a figure in landscape mode, with the width set to the vertical height of the page (or close to it if that would make the overall size too large). But I haven't worked out how to set the caption underneath the figure (that is, rotate the caption also, using the full width of the figure): the caption appears at the bottom of the page as for a portrait-oriented figure, which is inconvenient for the reader. Error on recent update

Hi all, I've just recently updated ConTeXt to the most recent version and I get the following lua error at the end of the log in the terminal. I thought it was a bit strange at the time but since the instal finished "update done" I continued on. However, when I ran some tex files the same lua error appeared with no output. I tried the usual suggestions for when there is a crash, but no change. Any thoughts? optimized PDF

I just found that my big songbook (~680 pages) had ~90 MB in March and only ~60 MB today, while it grew WRT pages & contents. I guess that’s due to the enhanced combination of fonts from embedded PDFs (LilyPond notes in this case). Great! Hraban

Dashes and hyphens

Hello Is there a way in ConTeXt to allow line-breaking by default after an en or em dash (-- or ---)? The equivalent of \XeTeXdashbreakstate=1 I couldn't see anything after trying various searches. Conversely, is there a way of inhibiting ConTeXt from hyphenating an already hyphenated expression (great-grandfather etc.)? That is usually seen as a desperate last resort (which the user can invoke manually with \-). Keeping math formula information for export

Hi, list. When MathJax and KaTeX output formulas in SVG, they attach data, e.g. Unicode info, math classes, etc. For instance, KaTeX outputs something like that for $1 + 1$: <math xmlns=" http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="block"><semantics><mrow><mn>1</mn><mo>+</mo><mn>1</mn></mrow><annotation encoding="application/x-tex">1 + 1</annotation></semantics></math>1+1 AFAIK LaTeX and ConTeXt don't export to SVG natively and tools like dvisvgm don't know about this information when converting .dvi or .pdf files to SVG. But info is somehow available via tracing macros. In ConTeXt, I get the following log from this file: \startTEXpage %\tracingmacros etc. \tracingcommands\plusone \tracingonline\plusone $1 + 1$ \tracingcommands\zerocount \stopTEXpage Log: (a lot of info...) 7:7: {\Umathfractiondelsize} 7:7: {\Umathfractiondelsize} 7:7: {\Umathfractiondelsize} 7:7: {\Umathfractiondelsize} 7:6: {\Umathskeweddelimitertolerance} (a lot of info...) 7:4: {the character U+0031 1} 7:3: {blank space character U+0020 'space'} 7:3: {the character U+002B 'plus sign'} 7:3: {blank space character U+0020 'space'} 7:3: {the character U+0031 1} ... Also, MathJax and KaTeX can export glyph outlines, which I know ConTeXt already handles with via Metapost and Lua.
