\setupMMLappearance

Hello MathMLers. I just discovered the very promising \setupMMLappearance command, which looked like it held the answer to one of my most niggling of problems with display MathML processing - the fact that in a tabular layout using <mtable> I couldn't make the left-hand-side right-aligned, the middle (equals sign) centred and the right-hand-side left-aligned. The default layout has all columns centred. So having looked through the sources I tried \setupMMLappearance[mtable][alternative=b] and to my joy the horizontal alignment seemed to be perfect. But... the vertical spacing seems to have changed as well. There is now just a bit more vertical space between the rows, which throws my existing pagination out of whack, and also looks ugly. I think I reached my limit on understanding the sources, so I wonder if someone could help by telling me if there are any other options for the magical \setupMMLappearance command which might help, or indeed any other fine-tuning commands for MathML layout. One other thing I'd really like to be able to do is have the entire equation aligned on the left rather than centred in the text flow. Is there an option for that? Pb compiling s-pre-61.tex

Hello ! Sorry, I'm a bit new to context ... but I try it for presentation slides... And up to now, I like it very much ... I tried to compile different examples included in the base distribution ... but some, I fail to compile ... And I do not know where I'm wrong ... font encodings

Hi all, I want to use a custom font encoding (in my case, enco-agr for ancient Greek). I can't set it up for the entire document because it breaks, e.g., the output of accented letters. But when I try to use it for certain parts of the document only, it will insert a line break whenever it is used. So my question: is it possible to switch font encoding in mid-paragraph? Best Thomas

pdf bookmarks

Hello, I am trying to produce bookmarks in the PDF file produced with context. I can produce bookmarks but I am unable to get any hierarchy of bookmarks such that chapters can just be displayed initially and then the sections open up. I am able to do this in latex, with hyperref, and am looking for a list of commands, or guidance, which would allow me to do the same in context. Thanks David Waller

Problem with figure placing

Hello ConTeXters, I have the following problem with placing figures into the document: Sometimes, when there are more larger images and fewer text, TeX lets some of the images run out of the page (see the attached screenshot). This hapens in very, very seldom cases - e.g. whole the document contains more than 200 images and this issue occurs on one or two places... For placing images, I'm using the following commands: \page[bigpreference] \placefigure[here][fig-xyz]{Figure caption}{\externalfigure[xyz.png][scale=3000,maxwidth=\textwidth]} The \page[bigpreference] command handles this situation quite well except certain cases (like it's shown in the attachment). I really don't understand how TeX can typeset anything outside the given page area... Here is my page setup: \definepapersize[MAN][width=17.5cm,height=22cm] \setuppapersize[MAN][A4] \setuplayout[location=middle, marking=on, topspace=1cm, backspace=1.5cm, height=middle, width=middle, header=1cm, footer=1cm] Does anybody guess? \lowerleftdoubleninequote (German quotes)

Dear all, I want to use German double quotes for my text but noticed that the beginning double quotation sign/glyph is somewhat corrupt: there is a bigger distance between the two signs than is with the ending double quote (which are typographically correct). To make this a bit clearer, I have appended to this email an examle. If you look very carfully you can see this effect already in the Context Manual, chapter 10.8 page 198 (\lowerleftdoubleninequote). The Code of the appended pdf is the following: \mainlanguage [de] rules, quote signs etc. \starttext Dies ist ein \quotation{Test}. \stoptext Has anybody noticed this error, or does anybody know a solution? My test file is (works in live.contextgarden.net if required): --- \enableregime[il1] \starttext abcABCåäöÅÄÖ \cap{abcABCåäöÅÄÖ} \uppercased{abcABCåäöÅÄÖ} \WORD{abcABCåäöÅÄÖ} \uppercase{abcABCåäöÅÄÖ} \stoptext --- So, the test string is: abcABC\aumlaut\aring\oumlaut\Aumlaut\Aring\Oumlaut (just in case it does not display correctly). It gives: \cap -> ABCABCÅÄÖÅÄÖ (in \tfx size), just as expected \uppercased -> ABCABCåäöÅÄÖ (ABC's in \tfx, rest untouched) \WORD -> ABCABCÅÄÖxxx (where xxx's are gibberish) \uppercase -> ABCABCÅÄÖxxx The plain TeX \uppercase seems to be known for its nasty behaviour with anything else than US characters. \WORD seems to be a thin wrapper around it, so similar behaviour is to be expected. \uppercased makes interesting things, as it does uppercase the abc's well but does not touch the accented characters in any way. Only \cap seems to do exactly what it should. --- Things become even stranger, when the regime is switched to UTF-8. Then \WORD and \uppercase give some errors and refuse to compile. \uppercased and \cap work as described above. --- As \uppercase is a plain TeX macro, fixing it is not a good choice, especially because it is known to be bad. However, if \WORD could be built on \cap but without the font size changing, it would work fine. The odd behaviour of \uppercased (and the reasons to use it instead of the other choices) remains unclear to me. - Ville

There are several parameters which can be used: style textstyle textcommand numberstyle numbercommand This is how I understand those (please, correct me when I am wrong). Let us assume we have a chapter heading saying "Chapter 1. Title" in the following examples: style=\bf -> {\bf Chapter 1.}{\bf Title} textstyle=\bf -> {Chapter 1.}{\bf Title} numberstyle=\bf -> {\bf Chapter 1.}{\bf Title} If I got it right this far, then I think I get these. The relevant parts of the heading are prepended with the given commands (whatever they then may be). But this mechanism does work only with the commands which change the style from that point onwards (e.g., \it, \tfx). What about the commands which take the text as a parameter (such as \cap{text})? And what are textcommand and numbercommand? I tried playing a bit with them. For example, \it or \bf can be put either as textstyle=\it or textcommand=\it. On the other hand, the \uppercase can be used only with textstyle. So, there is a difference as the name suggests (my initial guess was that the difference is exactly what I ask above, but doesn't seem to be so). Where on Earth is \uppercase explained? I tried looking for it in the manual -- in vain. I found some references to \uppercased which seems to be another beast. Thank you for your patience. If the stuff is not explained in other places, I can Wiki it once I understand it. - Ville
