Hi Hans, can you add an \unexpanded (as in mkiv) to the mkii definition of \getbuffer? [buff-ini.mkii] \unexpanded\def\getbuffer {\dodoubleempty\dogetbuffer} Without it compilation breaks here somehow (error with my nested buffers). No such problems with the \unexpanded definition. MKIV on Mactex Texlive 2008

All, I am using Mactex Texlive 2008 on a Macbook pro. I did this: sudo ctxtools --updatecontext After reading http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Running_Mark_IV, I tried: sudo rsync -av rsync://contextgarden.net/minimals/current/context/ current/ /usr/local/texlive/2008/texmf-dist/ sudo rsync -av rsync://contextgarden.net/minimals/current/bin/luatex/ osx-universal/bin/luatex /usr/local/texlive/2008/bin/ Then I try: david-arnolds-macbook-pro:~ darnold$ sudo luatools --generate And I get: sudo: luatools: command not found Then I tried: david-arnolds-macbook-pro:~ darnold$ luatools --generate The result was: -bash: /usr/texbin/luatools: Permission denied Trying the context command yields the same result: david-arnolds-macbook-pro:~ darnold$ context --make Result: -bash: /usr/texbin/context: Permission denied So, there is some sort of permissions problem. We looked at this: david-arnolds-macbook-pro:texbin darnold$ cd /usr/texbin david-arnolds-macbook-pro:texbin darnold$ ls -l lua* lrwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 6 May 13 17:46 lualatex -> luatex -rwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 8009384 Aug 13 2008 luatex lrwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 49 May 13 17:46 luatools -> ../../ texmf-dist/scripts/context/lua/luatools.lua And tried: david-arnolds-macbook-pro:texbin darnold$ ls -l ../../texmf-dist/ scripts/context/lua/luatools.lua -rw-r--r-- 1 33 33 222585 Aug 14 01:50 ../../texmf-dist/scripts/ context/lua/luatools.lua And see that this file is not executable, so we try: david-arnolds-macbook-pro:texbin darnold$ sudo chmod +x ../../texmf- dist/scripts/context/lua/luatools.lua Now the following works. david-arnolds-macbook-pro:texbin darnold$ luatools --generate But this piecemeal approach to making things executable might go on and on. Can someone give a more universal cure? Is there an entire directory of scripts that need to be executable? Thanks. David

Does any one recall how to get urls to break AFTER “.” and “/” etc. in MK II using \useURL? I know this was discussed a long time ago, but I have not found it. Alan

ConTeXt minimals for arch linux

Hi all, Any context users using arch linux out there? I have packaged context-minimals for arch linux. It is basically the first-setup.sh script simplified for arch linux (no platform checking, etc). I also modified the setuptex script to make sure it works in a multiuser environment (basically setting TEXMFCACHE to $HOME/texmf-cache). The PKGBUILD is available at http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=30398 To install packages from AUR, you need to install yaourt http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Yaourt and then you can install context using yaourt -S context-minimals-git (the -git extension is just to coax yaourt to keep the downloaded files, so that rsync makes sense). It installs the minimals at /opt/context-minimals Aditya

metaobj and luatex 0.42.0

Hello everyone, First, thanks for making this list such a great resource. I've installed a fresh minimals on windows using first-setup.bat. This seems to have installed luatex 0.40.6 which led to errors making the formats (message indicated at least 0.42 was needed). I think the presence of the older luatex version for windows was recently noted on another thread. So, I installed 0.42.0 and remade the formats. This minimal example works with "texexec example.tex" but fails with "context example.tex". \startMPinclusions input metaobj; \stopMPinclusions \starttext \startMPpage newBox.a(\sometxt{hello world}); a.c = origin; drawObj(a); \stopMPpage \stoptext Is this expected to work (I realize the 0.42.0 is very new) Am I doing something wrong? Hello Hans, Thank you for --mode=*nofonts and detailed explanation. The mode works well and reduces font loading time from 2.281 to 1.266 seconds! itemize fail in mkiv

MKIV in TL2009

Hi Hans and Taco, Perphas you guys already know this, but mkiv does not run in TL09. I tried generating the format and I get !!!!: Your luatex binary is way too old, you need at least version 0.42. The included luatex binary is (the date seems wrong?) Version beta-0.40.6-2009090923 (TeX Live 2009/Arch Linux) luatex.web >= v14240 Does this basically mean that in order to use mkiv with TL, I have to manually update the luatex binary? Aditya
