MetaPost filesize

I am writing because there appears to be a very large (i.e., approximately a factor of 10) difference in filesizes of the same MetaPost graphic generated in the following 2 ways (1) Including a common MetaPost source "common.mp" into a minimal MKIV document and compiling with `context surface.tex` (2) Including the same "common.mp" into a minimal MetaPost source file and compiling with `mpost surface.mp` followed by a `epstopdf surface.mps`. In case (1), the resulting PDF is about 445kB whereas in case (2) the resulting PDF is about 45kB. I've attached the "surface.tex", "surface.mp", and "common.mp" for those that wish to test this and help determine why ConTeXt's output is so much larger than MetaPost+epstopdf. Crop Output

Is it possible to get ConTeXt (MKIV) to automatically crop out the whitespace from its PDF output? I know that I can use the external utility `pdfcrop`, but I was wondering if this is possible with ConTeXt itself. This would be useful when generating MetaPost graphics where the graphic is the only thing in the ConTeXt output. Thanks, Troy Henderson

Embedding fonts

Table of contents disappears when \setuparranging is used

Hi People, I have a very weird problem. As soon as I star tot use \setuparranging the table of contents and other registers disappear. How to fix that? An example file: -------------------------------------------------- \setuppapersize [A5][A4] \setuparranging [2SIDE,rotated] \starttext \subject{Table of contents} \placecontent[1] \chapter{Hello} World. \stoptext -------------------------------------------------- There will be no text under "table of contents". Comment out \setuparranging and then the table of contents appears. When \setuparranging is enabled, this appears in the log file: system : part,chapter,section,subsection,subsubsection,subsubsubsectio n,subsubsubsubsection not found/processed -- All the best, Berend de Boer

Breaking textframes across pages

Dear all, if I understand correctly, framed texts (\startframedtext ... startframedtext) are not broken across pages. In contrast, when I set up an emumeration to to be framed, it is broken, but in such a way that the bottom margin of the first part and the top margin of the second part are inconsistent with any values I imposed. Below is a minimal example. I can see that this might be on purpose, but when I have $e^{e^x}$ and the like in the first line on the new page, it gets too close to the default margin. Is there an option that sets the broken margins? suggestions for context documentation

I mean like a real manual. I read the book about Hasselt---a few examples without explanations. I've looked at most of the fifty or so documents over which this virtual manual is supposed to be spread. They are about as informative. Most of these documents seem to be 5--12 years old. The wiki is even more patchy. The idea that a computer manual is something that exists implicitly in the discussions of a mailing list is a new idea to me. You can't be serious about "mk.pdf" being a manual. Even it admits, "This document is not so much a users manual as a history of the development." Little after that point is intelligible. Compared with the clear, abundant documentation of the LaTeX world, Context seems like a secret that a small club is trying to keep. It's not even clear from the manuals that development is ongoing, much less that there is some advantage in using it. So, will there ever be a manual to MK IV? In how many years?
