metapost to pdf on the fly

I would like to generate metapost figures in separate pdf-files (in some convenient directory, they are reused elsewhere). This as part of a project structure. I know that on a separate run such a pdf can be generated with: context figurefile running on input \input some-metapost-inclusions \starttext \startMPpage .. \stopMPpage \stoptext But the idea is to do it on the fly while typesetting a project (using mode=*first to prevent further iterations): .. \component figurefile .. And in the figurefile \startcomponent figurefile \environment some-metapost-inclusions \starttext .. BUT THEN WHAT? As such it is not sufficient for the goal proposed. Can this be done at all? Hans, when we should use \startitem ... \stopitem now, shouldn't there be a \startsym ... \stopsym too? Steffen, who just had a mixed case: sym and item in one itemize ;o(

Float placement problem

Hello, I've recently updated my standalone (32-bit Linux) ConTeXT from 2011.02.25 to 2011.09.20, and I'm now having some trouble with float placement. I'm using MkIV. I'm trying to have figures protruding into the outer margins with a double-sided layout, as described here: http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Floating_Objects#Protruding_Floats_in_Double-… Here is my minimal example: \setuplayout[location=doublesided] \setuppagenumbering[alternative=doublesided,location={margin,header}] \setupfloat[figure][location=inner] \showframe \starttext % An extra page. \page[yes] \dorecurse{4}{ \placefigure[]{caption}{\externalfigure[cow.pdf][width=17cm]}} \stoptext With version 2011.02.25 this produces the desired result; with 2011.09.20, the first figure is placed correctly, and all subsequent figures protrude in the same direction, whether they're on an even or odd page. So in the given example they all protrude to the right. If an extra page is inserted at the start so that the first figure is on an even page, they all protrude to the left. disabling onum in url

Hi there, I'm a ConTeXt newbie that I have the following options and a command for URLs in the document preamble (what comes before \starttext [I don't know if it is named so in ConTeXt]): \definefontfeature[default][default][onum=yes] \setupbodyfontenvironment[default][em=italic] \setupinteraction[state=start,color=,style= em,contrastcolor=,focus=standard] \def\href#1{\goto{\hyphenatedurl{#1}}[url(#1)]} My question is: how can I disable old style numbers for the \href command? Hello Luigi, your solution is better...but doesn't work completely : the first page is correct, the second is not, and after this one, the end of the document is correctly formatted... hum... Hello, MKII contains a macro \enordinaldaynumber which I don't find in MKIV. My main question: how can I setup the date to display "23\high{rd} Sep, 2011"? Thank you, Mojca

double line spacing in list (table of contents, publication list)

Hi list, how can I get double line spacing in the table of contents and in the publication list? I tried "\setupcombinedlist[content][after=\blank]" but this produces to much vertical spacing. "\setupinterlinespace[big]" doesn't influence those lists. I'm using 201100920 00:09 MKIV standalone. Thanks in advance for any help! Stefan.

Visual debugging

Hi, I'm in a need for more visual debugging aids. I tried the supp-vis module, but it did not give enough cues. I guess the ruledhbox is bound by ascender and descender height vertically, but I'd like to see also the cap height and x-height lines. Is it possible? Plus, is it possible to display the individual box around each letter similar to Knuth's TeXBook page 65? Best regards, Otso Helenius

Of course that will give suboptimal result (in particular everything inside $math$ will be in LM as opposed to original font), but at least it won't complain about a missing $\bullet$ and one can always use $\frac{\text{1}}{\text{2}}$ or something similar :).
