textreference in a protocol (minutes)

Dear list members, I use ConTeXt MkIV to typeset the protocol (minutes) of a meeting. In my macros, I use \textreference and \about to reuse the text from the agenda list in the actual sections. It's like the regular table of contents, but reversed (see the below MWE). I do it like that because sometimes entries in the agenda list are skipped in the meeting, and that means they have to appear in the agenda list, but there is no corresponding section. Now my problem is that the \textreference content is cut off if it is too long, as seen in the below MWE. How can I disable the cropping? Additionally, if somebody can think of a better solution than my \textreference approach, please let me know. This is a disclaimer to my former message about this subject. I continued considering the solution to the problem of using *fleurons* in a document via the suggested *\leaders* command and it turned out to be a dead end for the following reasons: 1) it acts wrongly if the page in which the *fleuron* is to appear has a lot of blank space availabe, as the following test code demonstrates: \setuplayout[lines=30] \def\Fleuron {\par \leaders\vbox to \lineheight{\midaligned{Finis\\coronat\\opus}}\vfil} \starttext \dorecurse{32}{Line \recurselevel\par} \Fleuron \stoptext where the intended *fleuron* appears superposed several times instead of the only one desired; 2) the use of such an instruction is touchy and not dependable. As I have experienced, things work satisfactorily or not according to the degree of nesting of the command *\fleuron* in the whole launching command and possibly according to many other unnoticed factors; 3) the suggested formulation does not allow enough control for the placement of the *fleuron* in the final document. In the end all this seems reasonable: the straigth use of the *\leaders* command is almost the contrary of the one demanded for the present functionality. The effect of the (obscure in more than one sense) *Tex* command *\leaders* is to fill a (rather implicitly defined) surface with repeated copies of a certain motive. The visibility or not of the result according to the surrounding text or space in the page has to be considered therefore as a purely accidental (and noxious) side effect. The content typesett via *\leaders* is not supposed in any way to disappear when following lines are added. I conclude that the only lawful use of *\leaders* in the true context of *fleurons* would be for the generation of certain repetitive motives (for instance a kind of small checkered board), but this is only a hint; I have not explored this possibility. Fortunately I have been able to advance in another direction and to get what seems to me a consistent solution to the original problem. Thank you very much Aditya, now it works. As you said, the trick was to use \doiftextelse{}{}{} function as test of emptyness function, and \labeltext{chapter} instead of \currentstructurelabel as variable for the test because the latter was never found empty, even when it was. two suggestions to \typesetbuffer

Dear Hans, I have presentations that include buffers typeset with \typesetbuffer. One of the presentation includes 33 buffers, which are small ConTeXt samples. Any time I change anything on the presentation (not on the buffers themselves), every buffer is typeset again. And the compilation time is longer than probably desired. My first suggestion would be to skip compiling buffers again, if the following three requirements are met: 1. Buffer content (.tmp file, I guess) is identical (checked with a hash) with the previous one from last compilation. 2. PDF file hasn’t been changed since previous complete compilation (md5 sum again). 3. Buffer content was correctly compiled in previous compilation. My second suggestion may be a bit complex to implement, but I think it would be useful. Wouldn’t it be possible that the fonts are only embedded one in the presentation? [font-syn.lua] remove call to fontloader.to_table()

Hi all, calling fontloader.to_table() appears to be redundant when extracting font names, see the attached patch. On my system I measured 42 (patched) vs 59 (vanilla) seconds for rebuilding the entire index: mtxrun --script fonts --reload --force The resulting index is -- except for the uuid, naturally -- identical in both cases. How to test the emptyness of a variable?

So there must be something invisible in it, like a strut or something.

Installing Context on Windows XP

Hello, I want to install Context on Windows XP, but the rsync commands fails because the network ports are closed. And the admin of my company does not want to modify the settings. Is there any other way to install Context on Windows other than the script for the command line ? Thanks, Nelson P.S - I already sacrified a member of my family and did the tours around the pentagram but the admin would not change his mind.....

I'm reconsidering this now. I designed my 'subject' index to use ranges when the subject is thoroughly explained, which obviously needs to define beginning and end. On the contrary, when the subject is just mentioned (above the threshold of importance), I inserted just a single index entry instance. Collecting these single instances into the range of e.g. 1-5 would bring false expectations that the subject is thoroughly explained there... This logic goes slightly against the case (1). When the range would be collapsed into to a single value, we would loose the info that the subject is described here. But it looks weird. Jan
