serial letters

How would you approach serial letters, e.g. to all members of a club? (Actually I need to send out donation receipts.) I’d like to use the letter module, since my usual letter design is using it. I can export the addresses to CSV, JSON, Lua tables or whatever or transfer them to a SQLite db. Would it make more sense to read them in Lua and combine this data with a buffer, or to write a single tex file for every letter? I know how to do the latter, but I’d like to learn a more ConTeXt-ish way. Would it make sense to use the bibliographies module? x mark symbol and general symbol guide

Hi, I recently tried to typeset a table with checkmarks and x marks. \checkmark exists but is there a predefined x mark symbol (\xmark does not work)? In general: For LaTeX there exists the very helpful comprehensive LaTeX symbol list [1]. Is there a similar documentation for ConTeXt somewhere? FreeBSD 13.2

Hello, I've been away from ConTeXt for some time but now I want to install it on my FreeBSD 13.2 system(s) (I have not switched any machines to 14.0 yet). After unpacking, running the install scripts results in: ld-elf.so.1: /home/rmason/Software/Context/bin/mtxrun: Undefined symbol "__libc_start1(a)FBSD_1.7" I assume this is because mtxrun is compiled for FreeBSD 14.0. Thus, I need (I think) to compile it for 13.2. Are there instructions somewhere on how to do this? If I get a working installation I'm happy to contribute the FreeBSD 13.2 binaries back to the project, if someone will tell me how. Thanks, Roger

Hi all, Does anyone have a simple setup of fonts to write a small Japanese document (possibly with furagana) ? I am using MacOS and I have several Japanese fonts on the system. I have some old examples which do not typeset correctly now, maybe because they use the old module simplefonts and commands such as \setcjkmainfont and friends. Many thanks in advance: Otared

imposition: getting to the last page of a booklet

Greetings, I would like to use the nextquadruple and beforequadruple pagebreakhandlers described at the bottom of the wiki's imposition page. However, the examples complain of an error invoking the \installpagebreakhandler command. The wiki page was last updated nearly four years ago. Is anyone using updated versions of these? -- With kind regards, Michael

A new problem with space in third itemize

Dear List, This is my little example: the problem is, that everything was fine, in itemize 1 and 2. Structuring a magazine or booklet

Dear list, I am reading up on how to replace InDesign with CTX when producing a newsletter, using 2 or 3 double-sided A3 sheets containing text in two columns per page (with images). I'm looking for an example of a composition structure. Unfortunately, the wiki page devoted to projects seems meagre. The link to an example given by Hans at the bottom of the page: Hans Hagen (2011) Project Structure, ConTeXt magazine #1101 is a dead link. For example, if I take a notebook consisting of 2 A3 sheets, folded to give 8 pages, the first page, which is an odd page, will be printed on the back of sheet 1, as will page 8. Page 2 is printed on the same sheet, but on the front as an even page. However, note that page 3 (odd) is printed (as an odd page, like page 1) on the reverse of sheet 2. Then pages 4 and 5 are printed on the front of sheet 2, while page 6 faces page 3 on the back of sheet 2. Page 7 is on the same front as page 2 (sheet 1) and finally, page 8 faces (on the back of sheet 1) page 1. My question is this: is there a way to automate the placement of text and images on the right pages with ConTeXt, or do you have to organise everything manually with a layout? Does anyone have more detailed information? I'd be delighted to add this information to the Wiki page. Thank you for your help. JP

\in, \at, and labletext

Dear List, In the Documentation IntroCTX_eng_s.pdf at page 170 , I found the two examples with \in and \at, and also the lable. The Problem is, that in the following sentence only the number (3.1) is a placed formula in an example, should have a link. Without the brackets. The sentence says: Task 1: Formulate equivalents according to rule (3.1): Sorry, I have no example. Uschi
