mp-geo Metapost package with ConTeXt

Hello ConTeXters, I’d like to use the mp-geo Metapost package with ConTeXt to draw simple globes viewed from various directions. The package is here: https://melusine.eu.org/syracuse/poulecl/mp-geo/ It looks like the last update was 2008 and I don’t read French, so I though my chances of getting anything to work were pretty small. However, I was pleasantly surprised that this MWE found the mp-geo package, the necessary Metapost files in the ConTeXt installation, and the data files. \starttext \startMPcode input mp-geo; figure(-10u,-10u,10u,10u); Mercator(3,48,30); fin; end \stopMPcode \stoptext While all of the files were found, it did not produce a globe. Instead I got an error complaining about an invalid character in the data files. This error is repeated for about 20 files (a small fraction of the total). I put the first error and its data file below. All the others are identical with different .dat files. Maybe it’s just an encoding mismatch or a hidden character I can easily delete or replace. On the other hand, maybe I shouldn't even be attempting this? 2008 is a long time ago in ConTeXt time. Feel free to tell me this project is crazy, but if you have an idea how I can make this work, I’d really appreciate it! It looks like a fun package. Thanks! Short forms and abbreviations in bibliography

Hi, It is a common practice to use short forms of titles for bibliographic entries after they are cited the first time. Another practice is to use abbreviations for journal names and book series (generally for citations in the text, but possibly also in the references list), with a separate "List of Abbreviations" provided to cross-reference the abbreviations and full names. I think that these practices could be accommodated with multiple bibliographies that contain short and long forms for corresponding entries, but I wanted to ask: is there a simpler or preferred way to do this in ConTeXt? To illustrate what I mean, the biblatex-sbl package ( https://github.com/dcpurton/biblatex-sbl), which implements the SBL citation style for (Xe)LaTeX, handles this using additional fields like "shorttitle," "shortjournal," and "shortseries," so for the BibTeX-style bibliographic entry @book{Blau2010, author = {Joshua Blau}, title = {Phonology and Morphology of Biblical Hebrew}, shorttitle = {Phonology}, series = {Linguistic Studies in Ancient West Semitic}, shortseries = {LSAWS}, volume = {2}, location = {Winona Lake, IN}, publisher = {Eisenbrauns}, year = {2010} } the initial in-text citation (in SBL style) would look something like Joshua Blau, *Phonology and Morphology of Biblical Hebrew*, LSAWS 2 (Winona Lake, IN: Eisenbrauns, 2010), while subsequent in-text citations would look like Blau, *Phonology*. A separate list of abbreviations would then list "LSAWS" alongside "Linguistic Studies in Ancient West Semitic" (and likewise for other journal/series abbreviations). Thank you! Joey

composing commands

Hi, As I'm going over the commands in lmtx, I wonder if we should keep \c \d \k \r \u \v \" \' \` \^ etc ... the ones that make 'composed characters'. I think that anyone who needs them uses utf . They can be in (say) m-oldschool.mkxl or so. Objections? Hurt feelings? Sentiments? Addition of authortitle sorttype for bibliographies

Hi, I've had to make another update to the general publications support code in order to implement a feature of the SBL rendering. Denis Maier has opened some issues on the context-sbl GitHub repo ( https://github.com/jjmccollum/context-sbl) to offer some helpful suggestions about needed features and bug fixes. One issue was that SBL should order list entries by author and title. Thankfully, there is already an authordate sortmethod defined in publ-aut.lua (probably to support the Chicago rendering), so I was able to use it as a template for the following authortitle sort sequence: ``` publications.sortmethods.authortitle = { sequence = { { field = "author", default = "", unknown = "" }, { field = "title", default = "", unknown = "" }, { field = "date", default = "9998-13-32", unknown = "9999-14-33" }, -- some specifications allow date instead of year, month, day { field = "year", default = "9998", unknown = "9999" }, { field = "month", default = "13", unknown = "14" }, { field = "day", default = "32", unknown = "33" }, { field = "index", default = "", unknown = "" }, }, } ``` I added this to publ-aut.lua because publications.sortmethods.authoryear is defined in that file, but if another location is more appropriate, then feel free to let me know, and I can move it! Dumb question about ligatures

I'm using a TTF file that has no ligature capability as a built-in feature. It does however have glyphs for fi and fl but ConTeXt isn't substituting them. So the question is: what do I need to do to persuade ConTeXt to do fi & fl ligature substitution? — Bruce Horrocks Hampshire, UK

Q1: is this the expected behavior for MkIV and LMTX? I found a recipe with \blank[overlay] in the mailing list. Q2: is it expected that LMTX will clutter item label when I use \blank[overlay]? I suspect the answer is "yes" due to the option name. \hyphenatedurl

At the moment \hyphenatedurl is not working for me in the latest LMTX but is in MkIV. Am I the only one experiencing this? I am aware that I am using a rather special typeface (Atkinson Hyperlegible) but am not sure if that would cause a problem... it doesn't for MkIV. Julian

Hi, Due to domain transfer issues (provider quits services) there is the possibility that the coming days the pragma-ade.com address fails. The pragma-ade.nl and other addresses are okay, If all works well the installer handles fallbacks. Eventually the context garden will also have the files. special case of hskip...?

In just one instance I would like the following to work differently: \startchapter[title={Introduction\\Disability and marginalisation},list={Introduction:\crlf Disability and marginalisation}]. That gives me: Introduction: Disability and marginalisation But I would like to have: Introduction: Disability and marginalisation Is there some way I can provide a space (whose amount I can determine specifically) after the \crlf in list={}? Effectively I am trying to provide a space at the beginning of a line, and I know I can't use \indentation or similar here. I may have to do it back at the preamble level by setting up a different kind of \setuphead, but I was hoping that in just this one case I could do it inside the existing setup. Julian
