error during the installation of luametatex

Hi, I tried to update luametatex which was running well(it was installed following the process in the wiki>installation> MacOsX catalina), but I got the following error after all the files are downloaded. resolvers > lua > loading file '/Users/graph/ConTeXtL/tex/texmf-context/tex/context/base/mkiv/math-spa.lua' succeeded tex error > tex error on line 2960 in file math-ini.mkxl: ! \mathopen, \Uover and friends

Hi Hans, Thanks for the quick fix of today's upload. I could typeset your examples with \mathopen, \mathclose and these are great features in order to fine tune the spacing in math mode. Regarding the new command \Uover, I thought maybe it would be more consistent to have the usual structure ${1} \Uover {2}$ like the more friendly ${1} \over {2}$ instead of having $\Uover{1}{2}$ which is more like the \frac structure. Also a structure like $\Uover style \textstyle{1}{2}$ seems a little bit far from the usual ConTeXt atmposphere… Would it not be possible to have ${1} \Uover[style=textstyle] {2}$ instead? In any case, thanks a lot for the constant addition of cute features… Best regards: Otared K.

I know this is quite an old thread, but here is a minimal parser (\units with an “s”) that wraps around \digits and \unit to produce an acceptable output. As I frequently need to write ranges (or measures of uncertainty), I find it convenient to able to type \units{4.0 to 5.0 centi meter} than \digits{4.0}\,to\,\unit{5.0 centi meter}. Also, the parser will take care of exponents and bracket them accordingly. :D ranges: keyword “to”: 4.0 – 5.0 cm SEM: keyword “se”: 4.5 ± 0.5 cm SD: keyword “sd”: 4.5 (0.5) cm If no keyword is present, the default behaviour is \unit{…}. Current version 2020.05.09 08:55 not working

Hi Hans, I just updated to the latest version 2020.05.09 08:55 but when trying your examples with \mathopenup and friends noticed that ConTeXt is stuck with resolvers > lua > loading file '/context-osx-64/tex/texmf-context/tex/context/base/mkiv/math-spa.lua' succeeded or with context report > file: cont-en-status.html and other such messages. Actually even with a simple example like \starttext Test \stoptext one cannot run the latest version at least on MacOS X (I did remove the texmf cache). When in a Terminal window I issue the commands context --make -all I see that there is an error message like: tex error > tex error on line 2981 in file math-ini.mkxl: ! Undefined control sequence l.2981 \normalsupmarkmode \plusone % 2 also disable ^[^+] in text mode <empty file> The control sequence at the end of the top line of your error message was never \def'ed. Hi, I uploaded a new version of lmtx and there are some experimental features that users cna play with so that we can think about related interfacing. (I won't mention soem in the lua department that I'm still exploring myself.) When you use a math symbol its class property determines the spacing. One can use \mathopen etc to wrap such a character an dmake it behave different. There is a new mechanism to overload that property in a different way: \startlines $x\mathopen {!}+123+\mathclose {!}x$ $x\tomathopen ! +123+\tomathclose ! x$ $x\mathclose {!}+123+\mathopen {!}x$ $x\tomathclose ! +123+\tomathopen ! x$ $x ! +123+ ! x$ \stoplines It uses a low level primitive, for the open case: \Umathclass 4 with the number being the desired class. A more experimental features concerns native prescripts. I made a macro that deals with it: $\mathopenupparameter\Umathradicalvgap{10.5}\sqrt[3]{x}$ (this one is also in mkiv, be it slightly less efficient because in lmtx we can use \Umathparameter to query the state of a variable) Already present was a variant on \over which normally is used like {{1}\over{2}} i.e. the only time when tex looks back and needs to tweak styles. The alternative is: $\Uover{1}{2}$ etc which looks forward but is otherwise compatible, apart from supporting an optional keyword $\Uover style \scriptscriptstyle{1}{2}$ etc $\Uover style \textstyle{1}{2}$ etc At some point I will adapt some context code to this. Anyway, these are things that low level math users might like to play with. There are few more things but those will probably go unnoticed. mkiv digits/units zero padding not working

Hi, I’m trying to get \digits{15.0=}±\digits{1.00} \digits{_8.12}±\digits{0.34} horizontally aligned as 15.0 ±1.00 8.12±0.34 But I get 15.0±1.00 8.12±0.34 instead. From the source (phys-dim.mkiv), I can see that “=“ should expand to \hphantom{0}. (I think \zeropoint in the table is outdated, since \def\zeropoint\hphantom{0} does not solve the problem either.) I can’t use tabulate or alignment in math mode for this problem unfortunately. Any hints would be very welcome. Thanks Benjamin

mkiv \digits{2.0=} zero padding feature request

Hi, As Wolfgang has figured out, zero padding in \digits only works for trailing (and omitted) zeroes when immediately preceded by the decimal separator. It would be nice if this would work even if there is a number preceding, so that \digits{3.1=}x\crlf \digits{3.==}x\crlf \digits{3.14}x would align at the decimal separator when right aligned. This is useful in some circumstances, where the number of significant digits varies between sources, so that one needs to typset for example \digits{3.1=}±\digits{0.5}\crlf \digits{3.28}±\digits{0.12} Thanks! \placetable[location=split] reference ??

Hi, I would like to reference a table of the following structure. \starttext \startplacetable[reference=tab1,title={A table},location=split] \startxtable \startxrow \startxcell hi \stopxcell \stopxrow \stopxtable \stopplacetable In Table \in[tab1] \stoptext It has [location=split], which I need this because xtable doesn’t like to be placed without a split; and apparently neither does it accept the \placetable[ref]{...} syntax. However, the reference is now no longer detected. I can see that the split table’s caption is about to become "Table 1.a.", "Table 1.b" etc. and I appreciate that this is potentially a quite complex mechanism anyways, but if there was any chance to get a reference as “Table 1”, I would be helped a lot. On similar lines, is there a way to have “Table 1 (continued).” in the caption? Cheers Benjamin

long caption in 2-page spread

The following excellent solution (see below) to a 2-page spread of an image was given me by Hans (I had been completely unaware of the command \startspread. It appears to be recent and undocumented, but it certainly simplifies matters). But in my case the title is a lengthy sentence, rather than the 4-word 'This is a cow'. And even though I have been able to split the line, e.g. title={this is my very, very, very,\\ very etc. etc. long title}, what happens is that part of the caption still appears on the right-hand page of the spread. Is there a way that I can limit the appearance of the caption to just one (the left-hand) page? In other words, so the figure is spread but not the caption? Or alternatively, have the caption neatly split across the two pages with appropriate space inbetween? I tried various combinations, including an \hfill halfway through the title, but to no avail. Perhaps this is asking too much, but there may be a workaround.
