Using the separate ConTeXt on macOS (Mojave)

I’m installing a clear separate ConTeXt. I’ve installed it in /Applications/context/. According to https://wiki.contextgarden.net/Mac_Installation <https://wiki.contextgarden.net/Mac_Installation>: Creating an Engine for TeXShop Actually, engine is somewhat misleading. In TeXShop an engine is a script that contains commands that are use to typeset your documents. TeXShop comes with many engines set up to run TeX, LaTeX, Xe(La)TeX and ConTeXt MKII and MKIV that have been installed via MacTeX. If you want to use ConTeXt Suite you will have to create an TeXShop-engine. If you have not run TeXShop start it so that the support files for TeXShop are installed for you. Since in the newer versions of MacOS the users Library-folder is hidden and not accessible from within TeXShop we will use the terminal for simplicity reasons. If you wish you can access the your Library-folder from the Finder and navigate to the Engines-folder inside of the TeXShop-folder inside your Library-folder and choose a ConTeXt-engine. Start the Terminal you will find it in the Utility-folder in the Applications-folder Find your username is, if you do not know it already. The command whoami will output your user name. Open the standard MKIV engine for TeXShop enter open -a TeXShop $HOME/Library/TeXShop/Engines/ConTeXt\ $LuaTeX$.engine This will open the file in TeXShop and switch to TeXShop But this .engine file does not exist. There are no .engine files at all (just an Inactive directory). So, what should I do? G

placing layers

Dear list, I have the following sample: \setupexternalfigures[location=default] \starttext \definelayer[abc][hoffset=1cm, voffset=5cm] \setlayer[abc]{\externalfigure[cow.pdf][frame=on]} \definelayer[xyz][hoffset=12cm, voffset=5cm] \setlayer[xyz]{\externalfigure[spider.eps]} \setupbackgrounds[page][background={abc, xyz}] \null \stoptext Is therea way to set the voffset value of the xyz layer to the value of voffset of the abc layer plus the half of the height of that layer? ConTeXt support for Atom

Hi, is someone beside me using the Atom IDE? Then have a look at my enhanced syntax highlighter: https://github.com/fiee/language-context It’s still work in progress, but I use it every day. It’s a fork of the outdated package of the same name, not yet available via the usual channels, but since upstream didn’t react to my pull requests, maybe I’ll publish it under a different name. alignment parameters

Hi, for my section titles I’m looking for the alignment parameters that give me: - left aligned - no hyphenation (or only where I set breakpoints manually) - no overfull hboxes At the moment I have align={flushleft,extremestretch,nothyphenated} (would use also hz and hanging, if they don’t interfere), but in a few cases I still get section titles that are much wider than the text column. Can I reduce the penalty for underfull hboxes? Or what else? In case it matters, this is within a columnset. Best, Hraban

multipage typing

Hi all, content of typing environment is automatically broken at the end of a page, so is it no problem to typeset multipage code. But when I used startframedtext inside (see below), the multipage code was suppressed. Is there any way how to get over it? column(sets) questions

Background: I’m typesetting the annual report of my home town’s "friends of the earth" chapter. The corporate design has pages with one, two and three columns (yes, that makes sense). Chapter titles run over the whole page width or sometimes only over two columns on three column pages. Images, ads and "boxes" are one or two columns wide (here, top or bottom placement, "here" only in one column). There are a few simple tables on one or two column pages. I guess I must use columnsets? Still looking into the other options. Can’t remember the details of the discussion I had with Hans in Bassenge... * In the preface of the columnsets manual we’re advised to \usemodule[newcolumnsets] This seems outdated. * If I use columnsets for two and three column pages, should I also use a one-column columnset for consistency? * Can I define columnsetspans whose width depends on the columnset? e.g. like \definecolumnsetspan[Title][n=2] \definecolumnsetspan[Intro][n=2] \startsetups cs:TwoCol \setupcolumnsetspan[Title][n=2] \setupcolumnsetspan[Intro][n=1] \stopsetups \startsetups cs:ThreeCol \setupcolumnsetspan[Title][n=3] \setupcolumnsetspan[Intro][n=2] \stopsetups \definecolumnset[ZweiS][ n=2, setups=cs:TwoCol, ] \definecolumnset[DreiS][ n=3, setups=cs:ThreeCol, ] (This doesn’t work, and it’s not a MWE.) * ConTeXt stops a few times (probably for every float) on \wait =, I guess that comes from \page_grd_command_flush_floats in page-cst.mkiv; is that necessary? * Page columns don’t have spans, right? * If I would want to use mixed columns, do I need to use \setupmixedcolumns etc. or do mixed columns already replace columns if I don’t \usemodule[old-columns]? Hyphenation LuaTeX

Hi: When I compile a document with the following preamble: \mainlanguage[es] %\setuphyphenation[method=traditional] \usemodule[simplefonts] \setuplanguage[es][patterns={es,agr}] \definefallbackfamily [mainface] [serif] [Old Standard] [range={greekandcoptic, greekextended}, force=yes, rscale=auto] \definefontfamily [mainface] [serif] [TeX Gyre Schola] \setupbodyfont[mainface,11pt] \starttext ... \stoptext with Context LuaTeX, hyphenation patterns work for Greek, but not for Spanish. I do the compilation with Mac. Any ideas to solve it? Thanks Manuel González.

typing+framedtext: different behaviour between TL2017 and 2019

Hi all, if I compile the following (minimised) code with ConTeXt from TL2017, I receive expected result -- one framed gray box with correct width. \starttext\showframe \defineframedtext[MPT][background=color,backgroundcolor=gray,width=\makeupwidth,frame=on,offset=1cc,] \setuptyping[MP][before={\startMPT},after={\stopMPT},] \startMP bla \stopMP \stoptext Now I tried it with ConTeXt from TL2019 (TL2018 produces the same result as TL2019) and I have got _two_ boxes -- the outer one is correct and frames the typing environment as in the past whereas the new box frames the text inside the typing. Unfortunately, both boxes seems to be controlled by the \defineframedtext[MPT] which caused that the inner box runs outside the typesetting area, i.e. the left offset value is applied twice. I found out that it is related with the given name MP. Therefore, I renamed it to another name (it was ok) but after adding "option=mp" I came across the same problem. Is there any way how to define behaviour of both boxes in the existing \startMP environment apart? Or is it not possible? Best wishes, Tomáš

Epub export css buglets

A couple of small issues with the css for epub output. First, back-exp.lua creates, in \jobname-styles.css @namespace context url('%namespace%') ; This should probably be: @namespace context url('http://www.pragma-ade.com/context/export') ; That file also has: document, %namespace%div.document { font-size : %size% !important ; max-width : %width% !important ; text-width : %align% !important ; hyphens : %hyphens% !important ; } which contains the invalid css property text-width. Perhaps that should be text-align or text-justify. Something else appears to be creating, in \jobname-defaults.css: pubfld[detail="title"], div.pubfld.title { display : inline ; font-weight : italic ; } which incorrectly assigns italic to font-weight when of course it is a font-style as far as css is concerned. This can be seen in file export-example.css in the distribution. -- Rik
