commands manual (setup-en.pdf) organized by topic

Hello list, i always use the "Commands" manual a lot to retrieve information about the parameters and options of ConTeXt commands. The manual is built from the .xml files in the tex/texmf-context/tex/context/interface directory. Since those files are organized by topic, is it possible to generate a manual with the same contents of setup-en.pdf, but sorted by topic, and then alphabetically? I've seen there's a module for the manual creation (tex/texmf-context/tex/context/modules/mkiv/x-setups-basics.mkiv), but i can't see options for a different sorting of commands. TIA, Massimiliano PS: (something about the question originating this request) I know only a little portion of the available ConTeXt commands, and sometimes i realize that there are commands i was not aware of, that fit better than my solutions, which were built with the few commands i knew (i.e. think of the many variants of delimited text).

regression in bib system

Hans, Alan, I'm experiencing a regression with bibliographies in the latest beta (2018.12.01 13:20). I haven't been able to reduce it to a MWE yet, but here's what I get from my bibliographic files: compilation hangs with this message: close source > level 2, order 8, name '/mnt/shared/Documents/excerpts.tex' close source > level 1, order 8, name '/mnt/shared/context/tex/texmf-context/tex/context/base/mkiv/cont-yes.mkiv' backend > info > no date/time but fake id information will be added ? ^\/mnt/shared/context/tex/texmf-linux-64/bin/context: line 2: 18125 When I hit enter, I get mtx-context | fatal error: return code: 1 but the produced pdf appears to be correct. The same file compiles fine with version 2018.10.02 23:17. I don't have any version in between. I'll see if I can produce a MWE, but I wanted to give you a heads up in advance. All best Thomas

upcoming betas

Hi We currently have mkii : which uses pdftex/xetex mkiv : which uses lua(jit)tex 1.10 and next year we will also have lmtx : which runs luatex functionally there is no difference between mkiv and lmtx but there are some diferences under the hood. It might also turn out to be a bit more efficient (at least this is what experiments here indicate). The lmtx version is part of a "long term stability" approach and it will probably take some time (and esp testing) to reach that goal. When experiments work out well, the next context meeting will be showtime. One of these days I will ask context dev to test this version because decisions have to be made on how to roll this out. The reason that I mention this development is that in upcoming beta releases one can run into (not that dramatic, easy to fix) issues related to reshuffing some code. I might also involve users who (I know) runs massive amounts of complex documents. Because there is no functional change there are no consequences for daily use of context. However, there can be additional functionality at some point. So, from the users perspective lmtx is just mkiv, but in some places it will identify itself as lmtx (which is handy for checking). Text running of the page with default=top float paremeter

Hi! I've got a problem with text running off the page. The culprit is the "default=top" float parameter. Is this expected behaviour? Slightly OT bonus question: What does the “default=auto” parameter do? I added that years ago and have not found documentation what it actually does. I actually have set "default=auto, top, bottom". Macro to write a vector with Metafun (again)

directlua question

I am trying to extract something from a string with a \directlua call, the last word of a string in case: \directlua{tex.print(string.match(“This is a string","%s%a$"))} However, the %s%a are not working with the TeX-error “unfinished string near eof”. Obviously caused by the %’s. How to get this working? \textpercent will not do, off course within Luacode. dr. Hans van der Meer

Font fallback

I can't get create a font fallback in the the example below, so some input is welcome. Interlinear translations in Context

Hello, I have now the challenge in a book to set an interlinear translation. That is two languages word-by-word (original above translation), so the sentence structure follows the originals language, like its common in many scientific bible translations. My problem: The TABLES are not suitable, because 1. I have to determine in advance, how many words are in the row, which depens obviously on the page-width and widths of the words. 2. Its not readable and well editable, because in Context (and most other languages) one has to write the table in rows and not in columns, as I need it for interlinear translations. Example: \bTABLE \bTR \bTD word 1, language 1\eTD \bTD word 2, language 1\eTD \bTD word 3, language 1\eTD \eTR \bTR \bTD word 1, language 2\eTD \bTD word 2, language 2\eTD \bTD word 3, language 2\eTD \eTR \eTABLE So I can not make this into and simple macro \interlinear{#1}{#2}, which I could use this way: \interlinear{word 1, language 1}{word 1, language 2} \interlinear{word 2, language 1}{word 2, language 2} \interlinear{word 3, language 1}{word 3, language 2} (all three blocks in the same horizontal line, if no linebreak is needed) On top of this, the language 1 (arabic) is right-to-left (so language 2 (german) must follow), it should be compatible with right-to-left reading someway. I tried with \framed, but failed, because the framed blocks are set one under the other, not side by side. How can I achieve a nice way with this simple readable macros? Thank you.
