Auto selecting optical sizes for a font

Hello friends. I'm trying to design a book using the typescript you can find at the end of this message. I'm using the beautiful EBGaramond fonts from Georg Duffner (http://www.georgduffner.at/ebgaramond/) This font provides optical sizes to be used in different sizes (named "12" for 10.1pt or more, and "8" for 10 or less. These fonts automatically work as expected in latex, thanks to a recent package included in CTAN (ebgaramond package), selecting the correct font for the appropriate size. However, the typescript I'm using selects the "8" size for everything, without taking the type size into consideration. Is there any way to make ConTeXt do this automatic selection of fonts regarding of type size? I'm using version 2013.06.10 22:51. counters identifying notes

bad column break

Fraktur fonts

Hello list members, an only-a-few-days-fan of Context writes to you for the first time. I'm pleased to have found a program closer to TeX and younger than LaTeX. In the last years I used LaTeX for a bigger family project with good success, but experienced some difficulties in arranging minipages containing changing text and pictures especially in series letters. So I'm trying to do that using Context. Of course I cannot change hundreds of files from LaTeX to Context, but newer tasks I'd like to do in Context. There is a first question I have concerning Fraktur fonts which I'd like to use typesetting a poem: I found a 2-mail-discussion in your 2002-archiv concerning those fonts. But I have to admit that I don't understand what is written there. So, I tried simply \definefont[Gedichtfont][Fraktur] \Gedichtfont{... poem ...} both with "context" and "texexec", but I don't achieve the desired result. "texexec" displays a font somehow similar to Fraktur, but not a very nice one and much to broad; and it seems to have no different "s" (one inner-word and one word-end or syllable-end "s") as needed in Fraktur. And, my "texexec" doesn't know anything about umlauts and sharp s. Whereas my "context" (translating the same program), dosn't know Fraktur, but knows umlauts. So I'm always using both of them, enjoying the partial success of both, though I read somewhere, it should be better using "texexec". Well, a very nice Fraktur font is Yannis Haralambous' "yfrak" in his "yfont" series, the nicest one I've found until now. Could you please help me to formulate the correct commands to use a "nice" Fraktur font, be it "yfrak" or another one? But please remember, Context is still rather confusing to me. \startTEXpage and alternative=doublesided woes...

Hello all, I'm trying to get two pages from a PDF inserted into a document with a different paper size (6"x9") which happens to be doublesided... I want the inserted pages to retain their original size (letter), and to be centered as they are in the original document, not relocated due to the pagelayout set up by doublesided. When I use \startTEXpage \externalfigure... \stopTEXpage \startTEXpage \externalfigure... \stopTEXpage I get an extra page inserted between the two that I'm including. When I use \setuppagesize[letter][letter] \copypages[...][n=2] \setuppagesize[draft][draft] I get the desired results, aside from the margins... the pages are imported into the pagelayout as defined by doublesided. two questions on paragraphed linenotes

Dear Hans, I'd like to introduce a friend into composing critical editions using ConTeXt. I have made some tests myself, and I'd like to know a couple of issues about paragraphed linenotes before start explaining. The first issue is about note split. When I started using ConTeXt, I realized that footnotes might be placed in the next page (unless split=verystrict is set). Fearing the same results in linenotes, I set this, but this lead to wrong separation between body and notes (at least on my examples). My question is: does the default split value for paragraphed linenotes keep all notes in the same page? The second question is on the space before linenotes that separates from text body. With your fix from last week, things have improved a lot. You told me is tricky. If you allow me a (naive) question: wouldn't it be possible that ConTeXt would check whether body lines respect the before distance of the first paragraphed linenotes and move as many lines that don't respect this distance to the next page? There are another issues. I'd love to use ConTeXt for critical editions. But I need to know both issues first. Many thanks for your help, Pablo -- http://www.ousia.tk

Failure building standalone

I tried building the standalone but ran into a snag. Here is the error message display when I ran "first-setup.sh": ---------------- sh ./first-setup.sh --modules=all --engine=luatex --context=current receiving incremental file list rsync: change_dir "/setup/cygwin" (in minimals) failed: No such file or directory (2) sent 4 bytes received 8 bytes 3.43 bytes/sec total size is 0 speedup is 0.00 rsync error: some files/attrs were not transferred (see previous errors) (code 23) at main.c(1508) [Receiver=3.0.7] mtxrun | unknown script './bin/mtx-update.lua' ---------------- I take this to mean it can't change to Context's /setup/bin The ... setup/cygwin directories are in my local build directory is in /usr/local/context and not located off of root / Is this because the cygwin build is out-of-date or not supported anymore? French letter style and date

Dear all, I can't manage to get the date on a french letter style. I am using ConTeXt ver: 2013.04.07 01:04 MKIV beta fmt: 2013.4.7 int: english/english I also tried some older versions and with ConTeXt ver: 2011.05.18 18:04 MKIV fmt: 2011.7.31 int: english/english I get a date printed above the destination address. I also get a date with other styles. Did anything change in the letter module between this two versions? Does anyone know how to get the date with the new version? Documenting \startchapter etc.

Hi all, I’m new to ConTeXt, having used LaTeX for the past decade (although nothing particularly technical). I’m quickly learning that ConTeXt MkIV is a rapidly moving target, and the documentation has fallen a way behind… So, while I’m gradually learning, I’m going to make an effort to update the Wiki. My first real contribution is the page about the new MkIV sectioning commands (http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Command/startsection and http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Titles#New_MkIV_Sectioning) Since I’m new to this and Wiki-editing, I’d appreciate it if someone more knowledgeable could give the pages a quick look over to make sure I’m not misleading people with false information, and maybe add any parameters that I’ve missed (or don’t know the meaning of like ‘label’ and ‘marking’). Cheers, and thanks for ConTeXt – so far I like it a lot better than LaTeX or any other system I’ve tried! Gareth

slanted style in quotations: setupquotation?

While there is a \setupquote in a recent MkIV beta, when I try to use \setupquotation to set the quotation text style to slanted, this has no effect. Is there a neat way to do this, without redefining \quotation?
